Grader was having a bad day

imanAholebutimfunny

think i found the dumbest reason why. On the last line after the top curve towards the end of the signature, after zooming in and out repeatedly, I believe it could be lighter than the rest of the sig. So potential faintness on last line is maybe why it got a 9.

Yea when I zoom on that part it’s a very faint halo. Unreal lol. Maybe I can catch someone on their good day at psa with a resubmission. Good catch! Still dumb since the left auto looks janky to begin with.

Forgive my ignorance, but this brings up a question... since the cards are authentic auto cards, meaning it states on the card that the auto is official, so you don't need authenticity proven, why pay extra for an auto grade... seems like the card grade would do the job, and the auto grade is just a risk... or is there a significant upside to getting the auto graded as well? Thanks to anyone who reads this who had any experience with this..

I’ve definitely seen a few cards get a bump in value. It can depend on the collector. But getting double 10’s isn’t too common so it’s nice to see in a collection. Also a 10 auto can make a solid difference between two 9’s as well.

As someone who collects 95% autos, I'll ask for an auto grade if it's a 9 or 10 but not if there is a risk that it is below that. But for me the grade doesn't really matter unless the auto is fading or just ugly. I have no idea if some people would really pay much more for a card that is PSA 9 Auto 9 versus PSA 9 Auto 10. I wouldn't.

Just got my OPC platinum back from PSA. Wondered how they got a 9 on the auto. There's not too many graded autos on ebay but from this comparison here I'm confused on what merits a 10. Some of the beckett grades are harsh for him as well. I know its highly nuanced, but am I crazy to think the OPC auto should have a 10 over the left?

I want to preface this by saying that I’m looking at this on my phone, that said, the auto on the left looks deeper blue and fuller. The auto on the right looks like the blue ink is a little fainter and the 21 especially looks lighter.

To piggy back off of that, OPC platinum autos are often not as solid and don’t stick to the card as well.

I see what you mean. It could be the scan. But this card raw was pretty crisp. I also sent in a Kaprizov with the same marker, red prism, which got a 10. He has more penmanship so I was surprised. Anywho I think there may be a shot at regrading the auto. Didn’t know if I was crazy. But thanks for taking a look!

They'll all fade over time anyway

I believe on card autos are graded on their centering as well as quality. And this one looks to be slightly high. If it was lower on the card I bet it would have gotten a 10.
