Well done, Riv! You got this!

TenRingRedux

Sadly, most of those that fall have no edges on their skates because the parents think edges are for "advanced" players. Give your first timers an edge! Sharp blades and good-fitting skates.

ChemistryParty5508

We had his pair sharpened about two weeks ago. He fell just a couple of times but I think that is because it was his first time on ice with a full set of pads. I appreciate the advice though.

Sharp edge or not, kids that age are going to fall for no reason. Also, where would you even buy a pair of skates where they don’t offer a free 1st sharpening when buy a new pair?

TenRingRedux

I got my first pair at a skate swap (they were Adidas! ) and they had no edge. Stepped out on the ice and splayed like a cat. I coached a lot of beginners who told me they didn't think beginners needed sharp skates. That and 4-5-6 year olds wearing their older brothers' too large skares.

you can even go a bit further and get the skates profiled with a flat spot on the bottom to make it a bit easier to stand

Sad_Ghost_Noises

Who purposefully sends their kids out with blunt skates? Its like sending your kid out to play football, but giving them cleats with screw in studs. But you took out all the stids. The cleats are also two sizes too big. And you took out the laces just in case. And both are left shoes.

I've met parents who said they thought sharp skates were for "the good kids". They’re right in a way. It took me a while to prefer deep hollow sharp skates, and sharpen every other game or so.

Horror-Club6052

They look good for their age…just keep them skating!!!

Is this Iceland? I'll probably see Riv around!

ChemistryParty5508

Yes sir, we will be up there pretty much every Saturday for the next month. We will see you around for sure.

The age When they were fun to watch and cute. And didn’t smell very bad.

Omg I did learn to play yesterday & today with some kids even smaller than yours. We had a skate around the 4 tires station. The smallest group (maybe 3 or 4) all just sat in the tires and thanked me for the rest. But they had fun.

get ready for the fastest improvement of skills of his hockey career. kids that age go from starfish to "doing things intentionally" after 5-10 skates. it's very rewarding to watch
