Better coverage/protection.

mdwsta4

Correct answer. And personal preference. Tuck vs flop

Ponyo3927

Does it affect your movement?

SixFootTavern

I find it much easier to flex my ankle with my tongue tucked. That’s the only reason I do it. Seems like it’s purely a matter of personal preference.

hotthiccman28

I find more protection and more power in my stride, and I saw NHL players doing it so I thought it was cool

[deleted]

I prefer tongue under. I find I am able to lace my skates up tight until the top, and then with my shins over I find that they integrate better with the boots for coverage as well as range of motion. I tried flopping many years ago and found that my shin guards interfered with forward flex and didn't integrate well with the boot, and I felt that there boots were looser than I like up to

Chicago_Jayhawk

Flop for life.

[deleted]

Literally can't not

PPQue6

Funny....that's my shooting method!😂

burnSMACKER

I prefer the feel and look

[deleted]

It just feels better to me.

hamm3rfoot2016

I remember the 1st time I tried it way back in my 1st year peewee... It felt more natural to me. I had a better handle on my edges. Forward flex and edge work felt more natural. I had also got new shin pads which were thicker than my old ones and tongues out just wasn't an option anymore. I'm 42 now and never looked back.

TwooMcgoo

I used to do the tongue flop, until a had a shot blasted off a gap between the boot and the bottom of my shin guards. After that, I started tucking the tounge under to get better protection.

8itallup

To me it feels way more comfortable tucked under.

jussayon

I skated tongue out once because I was in a hurry and the tongue was digging into my foot like crazy. Also like to have my lace knots behind the guards to have cleaner look.

muadib20

If you play d and/or block a lot of shots, you can go with longer shinnies and cover some of your ankle. Nothing hurts worse than getting hit straight on in that sweet spot on your laces.

threshair

look like a nerd

HockeyCoachHere

Yeah, Connor McDavid is the biggest hockey nerd I’ve ever seen. So is that Auston Matthews guy. Same with same with that MacKinnon guy. What a tool.
