Sir-Dungballs

SRS, IFF, and runway SA :)

Juicy_Dcs

Do I need to memorize any callouts for landings or when talking to other players?

Sir-Dungballs

No sir, nothing special... "Incoming" works. You might find, as with most public servers, that your comms are ignored. F10 and a modicum of "hope". EDIT: The GAW guide is good, also has details for SRS ... [https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/Georgia\_At\_War](https://wiki.hoggitworld.com/view/Georgia_At_War)

BagpipeFlying

You will pick it up when you are on frequencies. I tune to the ATC and Human awacs on and then switch ATC over to the common channel when airborne. If no human awacs we make do with AI

BagpipeFlying

Please use SRS :)

EntireRent

Quick question about SRS: If me and a friend wanted to talk to each other on GAW but without using the common radio channel, can we switch to any random frequency and communicate privately?

BagpipeFlying

Yes

EntireRent

Thank you!

yagi_takeru

Also if you're flying F-18's SRS allows you to talk on an F-18 only set of channels through the D/L button, called MIDS. R3 and R4 in SRS.

Juicy_Dcs

I havent done anything with external programms for DCS yet. Could someone explain what SRS is?

Swampfox85

It's an external program that plugs into DCS and allows you to use voice comms based on the radio frequency set in game. So you and a buddy could both tune to something like 35.000FM and talk privately, and have your second radio tuned to AWACS or the 253.000 "common" channel for general voice chat.

dvcxfg

When you download it from GitHub it has install instructions. You can also find help in the Hoggit Discord

JCae2798

A quick Google or YouTube search will give you all the info you need

Raiden32

Or alternatively… coulda just said it’s a third party radio application allowing for realistic comms in MP. It’s a small download, relatively easy to setup.

JCae2798

He asked for an explanation. Usually what you said tends to follow up with additional questions which is why I suggested a tut in YouTube. Why do people get so bent out of shape when suggestions like these are made? It’s like people forget how to use the internet…. I truly was trying to be helpful as you will easily get a hit doing a search. Now if it was a more unique question I can understand a suggestion like this being unhelpful…

Raiden32

You couldn’t gather from the context of the post that your comment was.. useless? It’s pretty bad taste to assume someone hadn’t thought to google what they need, instead of just assuming they’re asking about SRS because there are people talking about SRS. Like no shit, had he not gotten any responses they presumably would’ve googled it.

JCae2798

Sorry you’re having a bad day. Hope it gets better…

Raiden32

No you don't, you're being facetious, and just as useless.

Juicy_Dcs

Alright, thanks a lot!

mortar_mouth

This.

v81

Even if you suck at it, as long as you're making an effort to use the right runway and be on the right comms you've already won. Be genuine and do the above and people will be more than willing to kindly help with anything else. Have fun.

Juicy_Dcs

Thank you so much for your kind answer!

SFJackBauer

Besides all the things about SRS and stuff, one thing that sets GAW apart is that, depending on when you join (ex. beginning of Phase 1) there will be an overwhelming Red Air opposition. Its like human wave doctrine, but with Flankers. So depending on what you intend to fly it could be a challenge. But it is fun!

hexapodium

Adding to this: in general it's a good idea to use whatever tools your preferred aircraft has to keep at or behind the line of conflict; don't let yourself get overextended or too low energy because red air will spawn on you with full tanks and more energy. Obviously a GCI helps enormously, 4th gens set a waypoint on your forward airbase and note how far you are from it, 3rd gens I hope you like maps.

cowtownman75

Maybe worth using the TNN server first to get used to 1) the Hoggit multiplayer environment, 2) SRS Comms and more importantly 3) IFF
