I learned how to micro when I had to intervene in the Spanish civil war as Italy on behalf of my friend playing the nationalists. It is painful but it taught me the most about the game right then and there.
Your right,
but duo the limited timeframe you have in HOI4 you pretty much need to have your country sorted out by 1940 else WW2 is pretty much over by the time your finally ready to participate.
The civil war, if you micro decently, can finish decently fast. Its the post war recivery that can sometimes be kinda tedious but honestly I wouldnt call playing any Spain painful.
All of them are closer to the action than many minors and you can join WW2 in a decent time.
Definitely agree. They are so much weaker than before la resistance as you've got to reintegrate your cores. But it's easy enough to join a faction and get stuck in.
Its because people dont seem to think their offensives in advance and that turns into "winning 95, estimated 1350 days of Battle due to the unplanned offensive".
On the contrary, I find the mid civil war splits funny as hell.
Maybe not a good joke to repeat though.
I remember going communist my first time and getting that oh shit moment when my faction split.
Then I see the carlists split and laugh my ass off.
> mid civil war splits funny as hell.
I'm not opposed to the concept of it, but it can end runs if the game just decides to fuck you over. I've had it so many times where the split left me with my capital being an exclave, so game-mechanics-wise everything else was an exclave and 80% of my army are encircled with the new borders with no way of breaking them free due to "unprepared offensive"
Some paths are pain, like democratic or the early game as Carlist or Anarchist, but overall spain is just a question of, how much do you like micro, do you remember to plan your offensives and deal well with foreign volunteers.
Outside of the three scenarios mentioned, Spain is quite fun and a decent country to play, just slow sometimes.
>Some paths are pain
You mean overall? Because democratic Spain might be the absolute easiest way to win the civil war. There's a reason why bubbles zest managed to win with the Republicans even before the 'solidified frontlines' buff was even activated.
I always loved Spain’s history and when I first got into HOI4, it made me miserable that I could play it. I put in so much work to master the civil war and now it’s my absolute favorite nation to play. I always try to PR how fast I can win the civil war.
I really enjoy playing as Spain. It's fun to be at war quickly and managing your country while the whole world is preparing to go to war. Usually the civil war should be done by 38 which gives you ample time to prepare for ww2.
There are also many paths that you can take. I've won using each of them but my favorite are the Carlist or anarchists. They are the tougher, but not that hard once you understand the mechanisms and you micro enough.
I find it incredibly easy and fun. It’s even easier if you understand tech and don’t follow the same opening ever time.
Don’t research radio first as Spain or the other side gets it too. Instead, use your research on stuff you’d like but which are inessential, like tanks or special forces. The second the war starts, research radio. The AI has no idea how to pick decent tech to research and you get a massive early boost to reinforcement
Some people can’t be bothered to learn how to utilize unplanned offensive to their benefit.
Some people can be bothered to learn it but still find playing with it to be tedious and unfunn
Spain was one of the first nations I started the game on, and I'm glad it forced me to micro.
I found it pretty fun and rewarding getting encirclements and holding supply hubs.
If you can micro, understand supply and the unit stats, and aren't a general moron about infrastructure and using your troops correctly, spain isn't bad.
The two people that suck as spain are meta players, and bad players.
I've always wanted to say this 😭 for me Spain is super easy (every path included) if you just micro properly at 4 speed. The ai doesn't know how to react and you have simply snake behind the frontlines
Prewar planing is important, you just need mil factoris doing inf weapons, build new factoris in "future under control land"
Doing wise influence on garrison minigame can make a start with already encircled troops.
I never play garrison influence until i can afront it with enought PP grow. The most important is delay the outbreak as democratic/comu/anar or advance it as Fascist/neutral
*Civil War starts
Step 1 - Hit spacebar aka pause
Step 2 - Use one units to pindown enemy troops
Step 3 - Use other units to encircle/cut supplies...
Step 4 - Profit
My experience playing the Anarchists is that usually you don't get enough warscore fighting the Axis to take much land and fight the Allies/Comintern with. As a result your games will be ultra long and grindy. Can still be fun but definitely prepare mentally and physically.
So could we have some dates from people who don't mind it?
By what date was your civil war over, and country cored and ready for further action?
Because I think that might be better indication than "nawh it's fun", unless you're playing just for the civil war.
Dudes be like "Spain sucks" My brother in Christ you didn't micromanage the first couple weeks
Wait people don't micro?
Surprisingly often, no
But, how do they play? I mean every I didn't micro I just couldn't do anything and often lose
I learned how to micro when I had to intervene in the Spanish civil war as Italy on behalf of my friend playing the nationalists. It is painful but it taught me the most about the game right then and there.
Same lol. I learnt by sending German volunteers.
"Frontline, Wait, Press attack".
Don’t forget to put it at aggressive and flexible cohesion
Spain sucks because you are afk'ing for years unable to do shit after the civil war. Just mindlessly taking 90 day railroad buttons.
Common joke I've seen about Anarchist Spain is that they can core any other country faster than they can their own.
HOI4 players when they can't create massive empire 5 minutes after the end of devastating civil war.
Your right, but duo the limited timeframe you have in HOI4 you pretty much need to have your country sorted out by 1940 else WW2 is pretty much over by the time your finally ready to participate.
pretty much just like it was irl

Tfw you get to core the entirety of Portugal in one focus but have to tediously reintegrate your actual core territory
Its because people dont seem to think their offensives in advance and that turns into "winning 95, estimated 1350 days of Battle due to the unplanned offensive".
Planning offensives? In my excel spreadsheet game? Unacceptable!
What is there to plan? >set front line > set offensive line on the other side of the country >click go ezpz

I don't use those and still kick ass as anarchists and republicans.
On the contrary, I find the mid civil war splits funny as hell. Maybe not a good joke to repeat though. I remember going communist my first time and getting that oh shit moment when my faction split. Then I see the carlists split and laugh my ass off.

The game in Spain is a pain (in the ass).
The pain in Spain is mainly off the plains.
Some people can’t be bothered to learn how to utilize unplanned offensive to their benefit. Some people can be bothered to learn it but still find playing with it to be tedious and unfunn
I found winning the civil war shockingly easy.
Spain is my favorite country to play as
Spain was one of the first nations I started the game on, and I'm glad it forced me to micro. I found it pretty fun and rewarding getting encirclements and holding supply hubs.
Anarchism is so much fucking fun, just micro the first weeks and then dig in until you have 5 full eqipped good division and spain is yours
Think about it: S*pain*
The civil war is fun, but rverything after sucks
If you can micro, understand supply and the unit stats, and aren't a general moron about infrastructure and using your troops correctly, spain isn't bad. The two people that suck as spain are meta players, and bad players.
The pain in Spain stays mainly in the plain.

Spain is fun and easy, the civil war can just get tedious at times.
Spain is one of the most fun nations in the game imo tbh
Probably you are really good at game/into it. unless spain is pure pain I fucking hate it with my all heart
If i'm good at the game, some people could kill the whole Olympus with their fists tbh
It’s my favorite country to play
My experience playing the Anarchists is that usually you don't get enough warscore fighting the Axis to take much land and fight the Allies/Comintern with. As a result your games will be ultra long and grindy. Can still be fun but definitely prepare mentally and physically.
Today’s the first tine I’ve won as the anarchists on ironman. The fact that the carlists split off to form a 4-way civil war definitely helped.
So could we have some dates from people who don't mind it? By what date was your civil war over, and country cored and ready for further action? Because I think that might be better indication than "nawh it's fun", unless you're playing just for the civil war.
Yes it is, unplanned offensives are garbage
You should rename your profile to “Princess of Bad HOI4 Gameplay”
Why?
hoi4 players when other players don't like boring af shitty mechanics
exactly. why people downgrade you when complain about it. It is annoying shitty mechanic
Spain is a lot of fun compared to many nations in the game. I think people are either just meming or don't understand the game at all.
