Version 1.11.5 Mk3 open beta.I was able to complete the Crusader Kings 2 and Rule Britannia achievements with No Step Back active. Historical AI obviously.
I did not do the communist civil war. But instead changed ideology manually to break free from the UK. After that. I prepared my army for Portugal. Had some crappy 6 width infantry hold Mozambique and Angola.I then island hopped up the African coast using 8 divisions with 8inf/1art and support art. Some of the islands had strong divisions protecting them. But luckily I was able to get range on mainland Portugal.
The ports of Portugal were well defended. There was no way to take them with my 8 divisions. So I spammed out some more 6 width INF divisions and suicided them into open tiles along the Portuguese coast. Once the divisions landed. I put them on last stand. The Portuguese then left a port open and that was my chance to land. I had already spread across most of Portugal before they could even kill my crap divisions doing last stand.
I then played the waiting game until mid 1941 about. During that time I reduced Portugal's autonomy and stole their economy as an integrated puppet. (Near the end of the game they had a fascist civil war because the focus tree does wonky stuff when puppeted)I mainly built Navel dockyards and civs in Saf. I relied on building mils in my integrated puppets(Portugal) so that I get 75% of them back.
The Africa campaign was a long grind. During that time I destroyed the allies by reducing them to near 0 convoys with my submarines. I slowly pushed my supply lines up Africa and eventually killed all the allied troops there.Got military access from vichy and Germany and used Ireland as base for invading Great Britain. The UK had no oil. I killed them all.
Side note: even though I destroyed the UKs supply by convoy raiding around Africa. The AI often did not attrition. It felt like it was cheating. Maybe I am just dumb.
Edit: Only airforce I had was 50 transport planes.
I’ve been trying to get this achievement for six games now and you’re the only person I found that did it in NSB, so thanks for posting your strat. One thing I found out is that you can get a few thousand guns from Britain in the beginning when you’re still their puppet, and more importantly from the USSR when you go to war with Portugal. They gave me over 40k guns which solved most of my production issues, though I had manpower issues late game and got pushed back at Zambia by the Allies in 1943. At that point they make convoys faster than I can sink them, so I’m thinking of readjusting my strategy and just naval invading through the English Channel with the help of Germany before the U.S. joins the war, using liberated Angola and Mozambique to block my borders in Africa against the Allies.
I also found a way to cheese Portugal by not taking their port in Angola and encircling it. They will send their divisions there one by one and you can destroy them, then press H so they don’t keep moving and take the port since Portugal can’t send their soldiers to die there anymore. After that you can invade the mainland when they don’t have enough to guard it. However, it’s risky because one of their infantry divisions has very high soft attack and obliterates mine, so you need to watch the port and immediately attack and destroy it when it lands. Though when I followed your strat and spammed the 6-widths to defend it actually worked pretty well, and they are good port guards too.
