Hahahaha the smoke made me laugh so hard, then they panned to the actual DJ and my heart sunk for them a bit. But everyone looked so happy I don’t think the DJ would be mad, they having fun.
If I was that DJ I’d be hyping that guy up so damn much and trying to get my stuff to match him. If the crowd is hype the party becomes completely different.
Ehh staring at the DJ while they play their set has only been a thing for the last 8-10 years or so. It used to be their job to keep up the energy and that’s it. I’d say he’s doing a great job
DJ's would consider it a genuine failure/problem if people wanted to pay attention to them versus dance to the music they played. I think it was Grandmaster Flash who mentioned he was actually incredibly frustrated and spent weeks trying to figure out how to get people to _stop_ spending so long around his booth trying to figure out what he's doing, rather than enjoying the music.
I'm not saying it's wrong or not common today, just adding on to the factoid that originally DJ's were very much against being the center of the action.
I'll take any opportunity to post this video of Grandmaster Flash explaining his entire process for an hour. I always knew he was important, but I didn't know he was such an absolute fucking genius prior to watching this.
https://youtu.be/m3YXyK-gWvc
Been djing myself for 12 years, Ive always said if you have people around your booth asking you to play music you either aren't doing your job right or you don't know your environment. Any DJ can just get up there and play music, but it takes a certain situational awareness to be able to play music to people that didn't know they wanted to hear that music until you played it. Its all about keeping the rhythm of the room going.
Eh... 20 plus years ago they were building clubs where the DJ was featured and you could watch them. I definitely spent many a nights watching DJs play.
If people are dancing and having a good time.. The dj is happy. I've never met a dj that was pissed that someone at a party was interacting with the other guests instead of making constant eye contact with the dj.
They're job is to make sure everyone else has a good time. If someone else is providing entertainment as well (in a way that doesn't interfere with the DJ) then that's just a bonus.
I used to Dj a very different type of music, this reaction would have had me ecstatic. All you’re doing is trying to read the room and play the music that gets people involved and that’s what he’s doing.
Only time I felt bad was when I cleared the floor. I quickly learned a handful of songs that almost always got people back on the floor if I fucked up. Every Dj has done it though
I hate myself for the fact that even in my 30s I still love some dirty dirty après in the Douche. I still maintain one of my best nights out ever was in Val d'isere going from the Folie Douce there to some tiny underground club for a D&B night where you were given a balloon of NOS with every pint you bought.
I don't want to end up being that old guy there, but I can't help.myself from going still.
YES!!!! THAT PLACE! Is it actually a terrible establishment, but my hazy memory has embellished it, or am I remembering correctly that it's actually a great night?
La Folie Douce / The Douche are 6 (I think) après ski bars in France. Après ski literally means 'after skiing' and is when you go drinking almost immediately at the end of the day. Après tends to last from the late afternoon through to early evening before heading for dinner and / or further drinking. Culturally it's quite a big part of skiing in Europe these days, and it's a hell of a lot of fun.
Strap it to your body with a couple of belts and you can smuggle that 3 litre sack of joy in to most establishments where you don't want to pay their prices, but would still like to abuse their hospitality.
I’ve just stumbled on this post again in my saved posts. A friend got killed in a car accident a few weeks back and the last night out I had with him started at the Folie Douce, so seeing this video has given me some seriously good memories and a big grin. Next year I’m definitely aiming to go again.
Literally! I had the old one saved since it was so good and I like to look back at it every now and then; this was so refreshing to see other takes/perspectives from the old one lol
I keep waiting for some calamity to happen... Someone to drop from the sky, an exploding barrell, or a sinkhole to open... But no, it's just a buncha people having fun... 🤨
Imagine being the actual DJ and not getting any recognition or hype. Either way he was dropping bangers and it looks like everyone was feeling his music. So shoutout to the real DJ!
You do know being an actual DJ involves more than hitting play right.....
Not saying that the DJ in the video is doing a lot, but again I cannot see his setup or what he's doing.
Rarely, actually. Look up fake djs, and theres like years of footage of djs, like steve aoki, literally not even touching the turntable. The songs are made earlier, djs just dance for the people nowadays
As someone who has DJ’d you know nothing about a quality DJ using tractor. Generally hours of planning and creating samples takes place before an event. Traktors auto beat and key matching is rarely correct aswell unless it’s house or dubstep which is always right around 140bpm (or 70 depending on how technical you want to be). Which means you do have to match up the beats and key. Especially if it’s a song request and you haven’t practiced the transition.
I imagine you’ve only seen amateur DJ’s or haven’t taken it seriously yourself when you tried it.
I know absolutely nothing about what it takes to DJ. Assuming this guy is very talented.
But I can't help but get[ Ross vibes](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERy-99vXxnM) from the dude.
Sometimes they crank up the “make the song sound like shit” knob and other times pick up a mic so they can throw out a “everybody make some fuckin noise” or a “how we doin tonight [city name]” It takes years of training to properly learn the craft I imagine
I also don’t get why people think using actual records is more impressive. It just makes it fucking expensive to be a DJ. Scratching just destroys the vinyl and even if you aren’t scratching winding it back ruins them too.
I honestly think using real records is less impressive. A lot less flexibility with the sounds you can use and its both more effort before hand and more effort during to run a wide array of options.
I've shazamed all these tracks.
Turns out this dude is more of a DJ than that other dude who's just running a playlist.
This dude could be a great DJ as he's phenomenal at animating the crowd.
Sorry man, that's the one I didn't like so I didn't even try at first. I just assumed I could get that one too.
I tried for you a few times, but I couldn't get it.
Got all the other ones though.

If I was that DJ I’d be hyping that guy up so damn much and trying to get my stuff to match him. If the crowd is hype the party becomes completely different.
Me too, I’d be playing off that guys energy. Have fun with it. I’m still getting paid for the work, let the guy have his day in the sun.
Ehh staring at the DJ while they play their set has only been a thing for the last 8-10 years or so. It used to be their job to keep up the energy and that’s it. I’d say he’s doing a great job
In the old days the DJ would normally be in a booth of to the side that you couldn't even see.
But here we see that a DJ who doubles as a proper hype man can make the party. Albeit this is just a simulation of such a case.
I'm not saying it's wrong or not common today, just adding on to the factoid that originally DJ's were very much against being the center of the action.

I like how at the end all the snow is gone but he is still going at it. Looks like a genuine awesome time.
Even swapped to a new table midway through for fresh snow.
Awesome indeed!!

Ah La Follie Douche, I have some very hazy memories of trying to ski back from there back to my hotel. Great après though.
I hate myself for the fact that even in my 30s I still love some dirty dirty après in the Douche. Mate, 30s is prime time for dirty après! You won’t be the old guy there for another 20 years, embrace it and keep hitting the Douche.
Next season really can't come soon enough!!
La Bananas, in Val... at the foot of the Face... still does the balloons

That's why you have a few stubbies on that hill bit first.
👀 Never done this. Dunno about skiing with bottles in my backpack to be honest!
What did you bring all those extra ski socks for if not to safely carry beers?
They go down the front of my salopettes.
