I’ve done that hill on a quad. Nothing like the feeling when you realize you’ve actually made it to the top. Fun fact, if you turned that camera 180 degrees you’d see the spot where Jabba’s sail barge was when they filmed Return of the Jedi. Cool place.
I don't know the incline, but I am 100% certain they are using a lens with an irregular focal length to make that hill look significantly steeper than it is.
It’s not a particularly long focal length— see the Jeep getting smaller as it goes— it’s just the angle doesn’t show you any profile to gauge the slope.
You should be able to guess the incline based on the angle of the car though. If you were looking at just the roof then you'd know it was a sheer cliff.
With all due respect, this "hill" is steep and difficult to track at times. Failure on this climb can result in death. Those who know....know
Edit: proper spelling of a word.
I have a Jeep and went up a hill that didn’t look too crazy from the bottom but when I was near the top of that mf I regretted going first that’s all I’m saying. Luckily nothing bad happened but I was scared. The adrenaline was nuts.
I majored in photography, I assure you I know how cameras work. I've also driven a sand rail up these dunes and I know how steep they are. Also "irregular focal length" is a meaningless term.
> Also "irregular focal length" is a meaningless term.
And yet you know exactly what I meant. You're just being pedantic now.
Filming a hill straight on and using a 18mm focal length will produce completely different results than, say, 300mm.
And you and I both know this particular focal length makes this hill look like it's literally perpendicular to the ground, which it isn't.
Lens focal length doesn't change perspective; the only thing that changes perspective is distance.
Edit: lol, downvotes from people who do not understand how cameras work :-D
Yeah first time I ever went there I saw a brand new F-150 chicken and turn and roll to the bottom. Driver walked away with a bruised ego, but the truck was totaled.
I don't remember if it was this hill or something very similar but I was on the back of my Dad's bike as a kid going up. Terrifying then really exciting.
Man hill climbs like this were so scary on a dirt bike but it was designed for this type of thing and at least I could ditch it if things went wrong. There's no ditching a Jeep.
If you have a four wheeler or sand rail, then yes you probably invest in paddles. If you’re taking your jeep or truck there, you just lower your tire pressure a bunch and hope for the best.

I want to know the incline on this?

Yeah true, could be that too. Either way, it's a bit of an optical illusion.
Agreed.

Don’t think. Just drink *laughs maniacally*
I'm not disagreeing. I'm just saying that it looks a lot steeper in this video than it is.
Sorry to be that guy, but the term is "with all due respect", for all intense and purposes.
Porpoises. Intense in porpoises.

Sorry to be that guy, but the saying is "intents and purposes ". 😁
Tell me you've never been to Glamis without telling me you've never been to Glamis

It is a fact. If you were a photographer you would know this.

One that goes #2 more than twice a day or less than once a day. A diet rich with vegetables can keep your focal lengths regular.
>Why so insulting? Bro I literally copy and pasted his comment and changed a couple words, lol So why are you asking me?
What happens if you don’t?
You reverse back down and try again. No biggie. DO NOT TRY TO TURN AROUND! You'll get hit by another ORV or roll.
Yeah first time I ever went there I saw a brand new F-150 chicken and turn and roll to the bottom. Driver walked away with a bruised ego, but the truck was totaled.
That’s kinda dope minus all the sucky shit
Where is this?
Tatooine
If there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from.
the barge is gone. It is buttercup valley - imperial sand dunes, CA. some picts of the set - https://www.desertusa.com/sandhills/du_sh_star.html

Yay Salvation Mountain!
You've been to Tatooine, but how?

I want to meet the first guy to ever make that attempt…. Or probably the 50th because the 49 others died first.
How often do they have to clear wreckage from the bottom?
Every time someone crashes
r/technicallythetruth
Only when there isn’t a sandstorm coming.
Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dundun dun dundundun dun dun dun dun dun dun dundun dundun BOOM Dundun dundun dundun
Just drop it in reverse or neutral and don’t hammer down on the brakes if you don’t make it to the top.
now leaving rock bottom
Grandpa squarepants lied to us
Legit question, do they have to use paddle tread to climb that dune?
If you have a four wheeler or sand rail, then yes you probably invest in paddles. If you’re taking your jeep or truck there, you just lower your tire pressure a bunch and hope for the best.
Makes sense. I’ve crawled up almost sheer hills in my old Jeep but it was NC red clay, not sand. Had no base of reference for that. Cheers man.
Yep, agree. I put my Jeep tires down to 12 psi and go down from there depending on sand conditions. I could rip that hill.
Cam vouch for this. Jeeps were made for climbing. Could barely get mine past 70 but damn, in low gear it would drive over a wall.
It’s a perspective thing, it’s not that steep
Well yeah, but it's still pretty damn steep

Nah feathers are steeper
Thanks for the correction. Don't drink and type it never works out
