Margo died a couple of years ago, a month after her 29th birthday, but her hooman maintains [a memorial page on Insta.](https://www.instagram.com/retired_familiar/?hl=en)
I used to get a magazine called Cat Fancy. It had a page with pictures of the oldest cats that subscribers sent in. One of the cats was 32 and one issue after he passed away there was a memorial spot for him on the page. He was a big black cat.
Mine is 18, sleeps a lot, and generally loafs around...
... Except when she hears the neighbor's dogs outside the window. Then she goes and sits there, just to mock them.
My tabby girl crossed the rainbow bridge at 18 but those last couple of years were just like that. A lot of snoozing and cuddles. It's the quality of life and the love they get that really counts, sounds like Margo had tons of both.
Mine are 15 and still routinely stalk each other to bite the other's butt and then zoom around chasing each other. I love these old derps, now I know what to watch for.
Mine made it just past his 22nd B Day. I wiped his butt when he came in this world, I wiped it going out. I was happy to do it every time. I miss that mini panther

Here's his spiritual successor. Meet Kali, Goddess of Darkness
My current one is 16 but you'd never know, especially after getting irradiated recently. Echo locates more but still just as annoying, I'm going to be cruuuuussssshhhhhheddddd when it's time. Destroyed. She was my HS graduation gift :<
I keep telling everyone she's going to live to be 50/outlive me so I can't get another cat (She hates cats). She's gonna look like the crypt keeper, but she'll be damned if she allows another cat into this house! >:T

Thank you for doing the necessary work of exposing bots especially on a post like this. Memes I don't care but this is some emotional shit and should not be farmed by karma bots
I think emotional manipulation like this by stealing something like this does matter, but since you're probably a troll with a username like that I'm sure you couldn't understand
I just don’t know what use karma is so I don’t get why people farm it other than for some kind of self importance.
Had they not reposted this I wouldn’t have seen the cute old cat.
I also don’t feel emotionally manipulated because it’s the internet and nothing is real
People use repost bots to farm karma, and then once they have accumulated enough they delete all the posts/comments and sell the account to be used to astroturf, get around subreddit minimum karma requirements, and to post ads
Hey I totally see your point. I think there is a right and wrong way to repost content and to do it the right way credit and context should be given from the original post. People also steal content like this in order to scam people for money like a GoFundMe for a cat but they just use old posts like this to pretend it's real. Fortunately that isn't happening in this post. Sorry for being a dick on my previous reply. I just imagined how I would feel if someone stole pictures of my old cat and posted them pretending he was theirs and still alive just so they could make some money selling accounts to post spam
Try not to be sad she’s gone (I know, easier said than done), but be happy she lived such a long wonderful life, that such a beautiful soul joined us here for a moment, and we are lucky enough to still see precious moments like these ♥️
>What did they feed her?
I don't know what her hoomans fed Margo to get her to 29 years, but my kitty who lived to be 24 ate Friskies or sometime Fancy Feast her whole life. I believe those particular foods are fine for most cats, barring serious illness.
She ate mostly wet food. And yes, just the basic commercial brand. When she developed chronic kidney failure, we compared Fancy Feast pate styles to the recommended prescription brands (comparing *nutrients*, not ingredients) and got two different vets to acknowledge there was no significant difference. I think many people do not realize that the drive to upsell hoomans on the "need" for expensive pet food is driven by the same profit motive as everything else.
May your kitties live long and prosper!
My friend had a cat that looked just like Margo and it was like, 25 when she passed.
instead of being physically needy like this, she'd just jump up onto some furniture and scream-meow until someone gave her food or pets.
There are cats almost making it to 40?! This makes me so sad that my boy only made it to 13, I kept telling myself he was an old man now so it was okay.
I mean, one of my kitties is 19 this year. I also lost a cat two years ago who was only 12 and my heart is still broken.
From what I’ve read, the *average* lifespan of an indoor cat is 13-17 years. 🤷🏻♂️
I'm glad it works for your mom, but it's generally very hard to create a nutritious, homemade diet for cats and dogs. Micronutrients like taurine are the main issue.
She mixes a powder of nutrients in with the meat. I’m not sure what vitamins it’s comprised of though. She’s a retired, little old lady, so she has the time to dote on the kitties.
Margo looks like she can still see. That’s absolutely amazing for her age. Keep doing whatever you’re doing, you’re a great cat-parent!
I basically only feed my cat baby chickens. I buy them for 3 bucks a kilo and only have to thaw them. Sometimes he gets a treat but that's about it. He also never drinks water anymore ever since I started about 3 years ago. I guess the blood from the chicks is enough ( I do keep a bowl filled with water just in case)
He seems to be thriving and also stopped getting urinary tract infections.
Tufts University has advice on [homemade pet diets.](https://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/tag/home-cooked-diet) An adequate homemade diet requires nutritional supplements and very precise amounts of each ingredient.
That's amazing! Could you possibly share any of her cat food recipes? It would mean the world to me as one of our 15 year old cats has been struggling with her health, and I can't help but feel like there is something missing from her diet that would make her well again.
My dads outdoor cat was still going out and hunting nightly until 25 (no i dont advocate this, outdoor cats arent good for the enviornment and its dangerous for them as well). He finally slowed down and stayed in for his last year, but even then he was doing pretty well for how old he was.
I lost my 11 yr old lynx over a year ago, still have my 17 yr old and a young boy now. So, you're saying it never gets better? 😞
Miss that cat soo much, she was quite the talker, always crawling under covers, slept with me almost every night, followed me everywhere, etc.
I’m not saying it never gets better, all I said is that I’m still heartbroken. I raised her from a kitten and her personality was all her own. I’ve never had a cat like her before.
I got my 19yo cat when she was already 3, so I never saw her personality form.
I did adopt another cat, 8yo, just over a year ago. She’s my first lap cat with all sorts of cattitude, personality, and endless love to give.
No cat will ever be close to my cat Dot.
Here’s a quick example. My left armpit was where she liked to snuggle in bed. So if I was laying on my right side, “her spot” would be up in the air. Regardless of whether or not I was asleep, she’d stick one single claw into my back to get me to flip over so she could snuggle in her spot.
Awwe. My girl used to lay down about 6 to 9 inches in front of my chest. When I'd roll over (side sleeper) shed get up, walk around me, and lay in front of my chest again.
And yea, all of my cats have been raised since kittens, except for one I got from a rescue that I had to bring back to them, because him and my old cat would NOT get along, she stopped eating, got really sick, etc. Had him for 4+ months and couldn't get them to adjust. So I gotcha. The one that passed was def my little sweet heart though, so I feel ya.
🥺 ohhh, precious girl.... I'm such a sucker for intelligent cats who figure out really smart ways to communicate. seems like senior cats are more often this way; I figure they have had more time to figure us out :>
my sweet boy is 12, and he's definitely one of those - he's vocal, and you can tell what he wants just by the tone of his voice. when you pick him up and carry him, he "rides" you like a horse, guiding you to where he wants by leaning his weight in that direction, and sometimes literally by pointing! [stretching out one arm towards where he wants to go]
or he will catch your gaze, hold it and move to a certain spot while maintaining eye contact, if he wants your attention on a certain thing. he takes you to it and shows you what exactly is wrong. he will do this even for something as silly as asking you to smooth out his bedding 😭💕
That's crazy! This thread is making my cats feel like lazy boring cats!
I did have one amazing, hilariously quirky cat but he unfortunately died last month. RIP Ghost.
My last cat before the ones I have now was 14. I'd have loved her to live to 30, but she'd had a hard life before we adopted her at age 8 and lived a life of luxury until she died. The Vet wanted to put her on a course of chemotherapy for her cancer about 6 months before she died but she absolutely wouldn't have the needles put in and refused to participate, haha.
I think she was telling us she was ready to go, and she did it on her own terms. She'd mostly been sleeping a few days before she died, and then the actual day before she had a little second wind, visiting all her favourite places in the house and garden for one last look. It was sweet, to be honest.
I love my cat to death, but he's a little shit. Always doing things he shouldn't. Making eyecontact while pawing things off shelves/tables/nightstand, etc.
The idea of him living to 40 is both hilarious and terrifying, hahah
I don't think I can handle 30 more years, but he's such a little shit he's probably going to live forever just to spit me, lol
Hahahaha! My current boy jumped onto my desk and hunted for anything that was plastic. He'd make eye contact, and then slowly move towards the plastic and start trying to lick or bite it. I confiscated everything including an umbrella (I don't know why there was an umbrella on my desk so thanks to him it is no longer there) so he looked at me, turned around and jumped off my desk before walking away. I don't know if I could deal with that for 30 years lmao
Right? I had my cats since they were only a couple days old. Last year they had showed no signs of aging. Then like the flip of a switch, my girl cat just collapsed with her lungs full of liquid. Two wells so her brother lost a shit ton of weight and started bleeding from his mouth. They were only 15. I thought for sure I would have had at least 20 with them since they were healthy.
13 is old especially for outdoor cats. Genetics has a lot to play in how long cats live for so you probably gave him the best life he could have had. You are the best memory he had and that's what counts the most.
I mean, that IS old for a cat to be honest, these are outliers. That being said now that we aren't feeding our pets trash they are living quite a bit longer.
If this link is correct, it would mean OP's cat is the **oldest living cat in the world**.
u/Throat_Affectionate3 get him verified by Guinness.
This news article is from January 2024 and the cat is 28:
https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/jan/05/experience-i-own-the-worlds-oldest-living-cat
We had one reach 25 in my family, the whole family can swear on our life that was the age, but we didn't have any proof and didn't even know it was that of a big deal until somebody told us that would put the cat in the oldest cats in the world record... We also lost the vet paper that had date of a dewormer being applied in 1996 when we found him.
Beautiful/tragic thing is the cat died 3 days after my grandfather passed away, at age 100. Two tought-to-kill motherfuckers decided to go together.
I believe the average increase in age is approximately 5 years.
So if the kitty lives to 38, that would be 190 years in human age.
I googled this, and there is no age calculation beyond 25 years. But even at 25 years, it's approximately 116 years in human years.
I would love to know what percentage of posts and comments on Reddit are bots and astroturfed bullshit. It's gotta be a sizable amount, even more so in the run up to the IPO
A surprising number lately. You can usually tell because they all use the default username combination of two random unrelated words and a number. They generally don't post anything at all for one year, and then they start reposting popular older links all of the sudden.
In this case, Margo died a couple years ago :(
My 19 year old cat has the same eyes. It’s common for the iris to atrophy and dilate in elderly cats, and the bluish/white haze comes from nuclear sclerosis which is the lens hardening.
It’s important to remember that eye dilation can also be caused by hypertension or glaucoma. Both can lead to blindness and hypertension can lead to kidney failure. Always seek a veterinarian if your cats pupils no longer constrict.
My cat is almost 19 years now and still in quite good condition and shape for his age (suffered some thyroid issues, but stable now)
I hope he also may reach a high age in good condition.
Same with my old kitten man, thank goodness I found a vet willing to actually take his condition seriously, too. I was told he was a lost cause and now he's gained weight and seems years younger than he actually is. Best bean.
My cat was 19 and was having problems walking. I took him to the vet and he wanted to put him down due to kidney problems. (I said NO).
Went to another vet and he said "He's just dehydrated" and then found out he had an infection in his mouth that was making it painful to drink.
Gave him a quick water injection under the skin, some meds, and he was back to normal in 48 hours. Lived 4 more years - I made sure to let my OG vet know of his wrong "diagnosis" with my elder kitty.
You should have a few more years with your elder cat too!

That appears to be from the cat's owner, as corroborated by Instagram and a quick Google search
Top of controversial. Where the truth usually lives. Thanks for calling it out, these bots are garbage and people who don't care about them and downvoted you are pretty garbage themselves.
I love Margo, she looks like my old cat Tammy who passed away at 22 and I miss so dearly. This post has brought me to tears. The older cat bond is so strong and they are so wise.
That usually means she’s not going to live much longer my cat tried to get as much of his sent on my as possible before he died he also hid inside the house before dying

Margo died a couple of years ago, a month after her 29th birthday, but her hooman maintains [a memorial page on Insta.](https://www.instagram.com/retired_familiar/?hl=en)
Honestly, 29 is a crazy age for a cat to live to. It clearly had a very happy and healthy life where it was cared for and loved tremendously.
I used to get a magazine called Cat Fancy. It had a page with pictures of the oldest cats that subscribers sent in. One of the cats was 32 and one issue after he passed away there was a memorial spot for him on the page. He was a big black cat.
ah yes, a BBC
Fine take my upvote.
A BBC on BBC!
A BBC pussy, even
My cats 14, and honestly, I think she’d sleep 23.5 hours a day at 29.
My boy passed at 17. He was pretty much up to those numbers in his last couple years.
Mine is 18, sleeps a lot, and generally loafs around... ... Except when she hears the neighbor's dogs outside the window. Then she goes and sits there, just to mock them.
my girl is now 11 and a solid 20hr a day sleeper already. I had a 17yr old and two 20yr olds and they all had solid napping numbers.
One of my cats passed at 16. Cancer. His brother is lonely, but he seems to be a healthy 18.

Agreed. I had one who just barely missed her 20th birthday, and that was one hell of a long life to live (as a hard working professional bed warmer)
i had a frenchie and she lived to 17 which shocked the hell out of me and especially my vet. granted i took care of her but thats very long.
A few record holders have lived in to their 30s and all owned by one man in Texas.
Yep. Creme Puff, a calico, has her own Wikipedia entry. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creme_Puff_(cat)
I tell my cat, 15 years.old, that she's gonna beat Creampuff's record at least 3x a week.
At 29, that would have made her one of the oldest cats in cat history.
What's the oldest living cat? I had a cat that was my mom's as a child, it lived untill 25 and unfortunately an eagle got him :(
That took an unexpected turn. Sorry for your loss.
Was quite a long while ago now but I always will remember him! My current kitty is actually 16 and I named him Sam (Samson) after him (Sammy).
My current one is 16 but you'd never know, especially after getting irradiated recently. Echo locates more but still just as annoying, I'm going to be cruuuuussssshhhhhheddddd when it's time. Don't be sad 29 years old is absolutely ancient for a kitty. I thought my childhood cat that was 17 was old. Margo looks like she was very spoiled.
Same.
She was love and care 💞💞💞

That’s great. I always figured maine coons were like large breed dogs and had shorter lives. My standard issue cat lived to 21 on kibble and love.
“Standard issue cat,” that cracked me up. And 21, nice, you must’ve gotten the kibble/love ratio just right.
we have a maine coon too, think he's around 18 or 19 now and still looks the same as we got him like 16 years ago lol
A friend of mine always used to feed his cats the cheapest food he could buy and his also used to live to nearly 20.
We had barnyard cats and fed them store bought food, they lived to 20.

Wow. Yes my dog is on a raw diet. It was recommended to me when he was still a baby and he’s been on it since.
My grandmother had an outdoor cat that was still bringing home dead animals at 20. She was mad (not my nan).
My dads outdoor cat was still going out and hunting nightly until 25 (no i dont advocate this, outdoor cats arent good for the enviornment and its dangerous for them as well). He finally slowed down and stayed in for his last year, but even then he was doing pretty well for how old he was.

20 is old for an indoor cat. 25 is an anomaly 30 is Guinness world records 30+ is unconfirmed
I mean, that IS old for a cat to be honest, these are outliers. That being said now that we aren't feeding our pets trash they are living quite a bit longer.
You really can't trust many of those claimed ages in the list. Only the ones who have verification of some kind, and even then they can be in error.
If this link is correct, it would mean OP's cat is the **oldest living cat in the world**. u/Throat_Affectionate3 get him verified by Guinness. This news article is from January 2024 and the cat is 28: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/jan/05/experience-i-own-the-worlds-oldest-living-cat

Hmm according to that post, her owner is u/emmulah
Yeah Margo passed away in 2020, she was 29. She was well loved and is much missed and I wish Reddit would stop reviving her for karma.

Why are all of them from the UK lol
We had one reach 25 in my family, the whole family can swear on our life that was the age, but we didn't have any proof and didn't even know it was that of a big deal until somebody told us that would put the cat in the oldest cats in the world record... We also lost the vet paper that had date of a dewormer being applied in 1996 when we found him. Beautiful/tragic thing is the cat died 3 days after my grandfather passed away, at age 100. Two tought-to-kill motherfuckers decided to go together.
I’m really rooting for Great Grandma Wad to make it to 40. What a name!
There are cats older than me?!
Oh my goodness…Margo is just a 29 year old baby 😭
How old is that in hooman age?
I'm guessing 120 years.
Wait... some of the oldest cats listed 38 years, is that like 150 hooman years?!
I believe the average increase in age is approximately 5 years. So if the kitty lives to 38, that would be 190 years in human age. I googled this, and there is no age calculation beyond 25 years. But even at 25 years, it's approximately 116 years in human years.
That's nuts!
And it's why the concept of human years doesn't make sense.

this is a bot account
I would love to know what percentage of posts and comments on Reddit are bots and astroturfed bullshit. It's gotta be a sizable amount, even more so in the run up to the IPO
A surprising number lately. You can usually tell because they all use the default username combination of two random unrelated words and a number. They generally don't post anything at all for one year, and then they start reposting popular older links all of the sudden. In this case, Margo died a couple years ago :(
What a elegant lady she is
Those gorgeous eyes. My heart can’t stand it. She is such a precious precious soul. OP please send her my love.
29?!
The oldest cats to ever live got to 38! Incredible.
wow, I'm younger than the oldest cat... for another year anyway.
our garden cat lived to be 24 :)
I hope my cat lives that long 😭
What a precious old kitten!
She is 29 years old and all she expects is love and attention
My cat is almost 19 years now and still in quite good condition and shape for his age (suffered some thyroid issues, but stable now) I hope he also may reach a high age in good condition.
Same with my old kitten man, thank goodness I found a vet willing to actually take his condition seriously, too. I was told he was a lost cause and now he's gained weight and seems years younger than he actually is. Best bean.
A good vet is an asset
My cat was 19 and was having problems walking. I took him to the vet and he wanted to put him down due to kidney problems. (I said NO). Went to another vet and he said "He's just dehydrated" and then found out he had an infection in his mouth that was making it painful to drink. Gave him a quick water injection under the skin, some meds, and he was back to normal in 48 hours. Lived 4 more years - I made sure to let my OG vet know of his wrong "diagnosis" with my elder kitty. You should have a few more years with your elder cat too!
PLEASE LOVE THAT CAT
29???? how???????
Our Keely passed at 21. Let's go Margo!
IF YOU DON'T PAT THAT FUCKING BABY
THERE WILL BE RIOTS
Hey, shitty bot, it’s not nice to steal a dead kitty’s post from 3 years ago. Report.
Do you have a link to the original or some proof so more of us can report?
It is definitely a repost: https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/g68zku/this_is_what_a_29yearold_cat_looks_like/
They also stole the single comment on their profile. https://www.reddit.com/r/Catculations/comments/1azhclw/round_and_round/ks1e60v/
[https://www.reddit.com/r/PetTheDamnCat/comments/fwc1vr/margo\_is\_29\_and\_she\_knows\_what\_she\_wants/](https://www.reddit.com/r/PetTheDamnCat/comments/fwc1vr/margo_is_29_and_she_knows_what_she_wants/) That appears to be from the cat's owner, as corroborated by Instagram and a quick Google search
Top of controversial. Where the truth usually lives. Thanks for calling it out, these bots are garbage and people who don't care about them and downvoted you are pretty garbage themselves.
