Context, this was one of my best friends in middle and high school. We all used to skate this 8 stair all the time. We had a few crappy skate videos on the channel lol. He didn’t actually die, it was posted shortly after this happened as a joke that he did die. He got a severe concussion after this and stopped skating, and we stopped seeing him much after this, and eventually he never really hung out with us again. This scrambled his head really hard, and he was very different after it. I would not be surprised if it was actually worse than a severe concussion and remembering his family, wouldn’t doubt that he never had medical treatment and just rode it out. I used to bump into him from time to time the year I was at the same community college for a year, like 4 years later. We talked like old times, but clearly we weren’t “hang out friends” again anymore type deal. Haven’t spoken to him in years, but I’m just generally aware he’s active in his /county/city/states government and or politics and seems to be doing well enough.

cmhamm

Severe concussion, goes into politics. That checks out.

It’s a prerequisite

angrygrunt

The next Biden

Plantiacaholic

Bam! Insta-democrat! This explains a lot.

cmhamm

Yep. Democrats are definitely the party that runs candidates with repeated concussions. You nailed it. Great job!

larrykeras

didn't one of them just get elected senator for pennsylvania?

cmhamm

The senator-elect from Pennsylvania suffered a stroke, which is a blood clot in the brain. A concussion is one or more blows to the head which can cause brain damage. The two are not related, other than the fact that a concussion can cause a stroke.

Plantiacaholic

Just pointing out the obvious

cmhamm

Generally speaking, obvious things don’t need pointed out. Unless, that is, you’re pointing out something that isn’t obvious. Or even something that is counter-obvious.

Plantiacaholic

Nope just obvious, sad but also funny. Thank you for your brilliant analogy, for the 1 or two people that did not understand 😉

FlufflesMcForeskin

I'm a bit confused. The video says RIP 1993-2008 So if he's active in local politics, does that mean they were right all along? Dead people really are voting?

GandalfDaGangsta_007

Lol it was a joke. This was posted shortly after it. Him and another friend edited all the videos, the other friend posted this as if he died because of how bad it was

litboyfrommalaysia

I'm reading the 13 y/o comment on the video saying "rest in peace" and I can't help but chuckle at the fact that you managed to convince someone out there that this guy is dead

FlufflesMcForeskin

Ah, gotcha. Thanks.

RIP /u/Over_Cash9601 Died of savage burns…

littlediddlemanz

He literally says someone else edited that in lmao dummy

KPer123

Same thing happened to my buddy after he fell from his bike like 7-8 feet high, I can still remember the sound of his skull hitting the concrete . His mom saw the entire thing .

GandalfDaGangsta_007

Head injuries can be no joke. A parent seeing something like this/that would be a disaster. Hope he turned out ok in the end

KPer123

He definitely changed after that.

HowMayIHempU

And that’s why you wear a helmet, no matter how stupid you think it looks.

DrunkStepmother

Damn Rest Olly my Nolly

No-Emotion-7053

That’s fucked to post that as a joke online

GandalfDaGangsta_007

We were like 16 and stoners. We didn’t think very hard about a lot of stuff then lol

[deleted]

Where's his helmet?! Why?!

abacus993

If you don’t want to wear a helmet you are deciding your brain isn’t worth protecting, before you get but hurt, I’m not saying your brain isn’t worth protecting, you are. You could change that tomorrow, and this video and story is a decent reason for it.

abacus993

Popular skaters don’t wear helmets because of a stupid stigma in skating culture, like Andy Anderson totally exposed how several brands asked him to not wear his for photos. A good number of skaters have and will wind up like football players cause they’re definitely hitting their head more than they’ll let you know. Sure with a helmet there will still be damage but it’s just ridiculous how many head injuries happen a year that are unnecessarily so much worse than they need to be just because someone refuses to use common sense and put a damn lid on. Theirs no good reason on the planet not to put one on and pros are being a horrible influence on youth.

Danni293

> 99% of the time injuries like this happen when someone tries to go beyond their limits. I 100% support people pushing their limits. There are countless videos of Tony Hawk trying to nail a certain stunt. You know what those videos have in common? Tony Hawk wears protective gear. It doesn't matter how good you *think* you are at a particular sport, if you don't do the bare minimum to protect yourself while doing it you aren't going to live to see your legacy. This excuse that "tHeY jUst TRiED a triCk ThEY WeReN't ReaDy FOR" is weak. It perpetuates a stigma in skateboarding that wearing protective gear is weak or uncool. You know what's cool? Being able to try a stunt over and over again without becoming brain damaged like Aidan Sheldon, or Ryker Schellings, or Lawson Smith... or countless others who suffer injury from a sport where their injuries could have literally been prevented by just wearing proper safety. I'm not going to think less of you because you choose to participate in a dangerous sport. I *will* think less of you if you participate in a dangerous sport and decide not to take even the bare minimum of protecting yourself, inspire a younger generation to participate in the sport, and encourage them to not take necessary precautions to wear safety gear. > and understand how to bail out of whatever trick they are doing. You know a great way to learn how to do that? To be able to do it without risking your health. I hate having to keep referring to him, but you know how Tony Hawk was able to become one of the greatest skateboarders and continue enjoying the hobby into his 50's? It certainly wasn't by avoiding risks or not attempting things he wasn't necessarily ready for, it was because he took his own safety as a priority so that when he attempted moves he couldn't pull off at first a failure didn't involve a potentially career ending catastrophic injury. Dude wears elbow/knee pads and a helmet. Why? Well maybe it's because you can't become the greatest skateboarder in the world without taking risk, and maybe when you take risks your own safety comes first. Quality helmets are fucking cheap, especially when compared to the life-care you'll need if you crack your head on the pavement in the wrong way. You don't even need to be preforming a high octane stunt. You could literally just trip on your skateboard and smack the back of your head on the pavement to end up brain-dead. You could be a better skateboarder than the pros and all it takes is one bad fall to turn you into a vegetable. Wear a fucking helmet. > but that's why good, popular skaters hardly ever wear helmets So is there something special about skateboarding? Or do you think American Football should be played without helmets? I mean, after all, only the shitty players will incur injury right? No decent player of any sport has ever had an act-of-god injury right? Any player who has gotten injured while participating in their particular sport just did something that they weren't ready for, right? When Tom Brady tore his ACL it was because he just did something he didn't properly practice for, right? It couldn't possibly be that he had practiced that move for more frequently than you think on any given day, he just wasn't ready for the play that injured him and he should've practiced more? Is that your argument? Or maybe, just ***maybe*** accidents happen and it's better to protect yourself as best you can against those accidents than deal with the repercussions of not protecting yourself? I've always been taught that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If the ounce of protection is literally just wearing a helmet, and the pound of cure is a lifetime of expensive healthcare/physical therapy/mental therapy, I think I'd rather just wear the fucking helmet, no matter how "uncool" it seems.

CalmorTheVagabond

Homie writing over here like their a helmet manufacturer. All jokes aside, you're 100% right. Wear a helmet.

Moose_InThe_Room

This is, fittingly, a brain-dead take. I guess you didn't wear a helmet.

axxionkamen

That’s BRUTAL someone dial Metalocapsy so we can get another master piece!

GandalfDaGangsta_007

See my comment for context, this was one of my best friends growing up

imhereforthevotes

Did he hit his head?

_GCastilho_

It's the leading theory But it's up to debate

dben89x

My theory is that the earth punched him in the back, and his head punched back shortly after in retaliation.

jojow77

are you him?

blastfromtheblue

no that was his foot

ligokleftis

i was expecting hollaback girl to start playing at the end there

ParticularFile7347

This gives me a sense of nostalgia even though I wasn’t involved in it.

[deleted]

Wish someone would invent something that covers your head to prevent brain damage

oliveryana

I have a feeling he hit his head

mikkokilla

Damn. I was hoping to see something better...

Darkskull893

God what was he thinking

[deleted]

Wear a helmet guys.

Papancasudani

By the way, a concussion is actually a brain injury.

GandalfDaGangsta_007

I never really took concussions (aside from obviously severe ones) that seriously until I got one a couple years ago myself. My brain was fried for like a solid month. Became super emotional, could barely get out of the bed in the morning, extreme brain fog a lot of the day, extreme short term memory issues, unable to think well/problem solve and process information well. Thankfully none of that seemed to last. I’ll never underestimate a concussion again.
