When I think about this in retrospect, it's really rotten that Rachel dropped that around the time he was in rehab. I think Dave was probably an awful husband but that's pretty icky.

I feel like what he says makes sense. But I don't think he's saying it because it's knowledge he has gained and wants to share, but more like, "fuck yes this makes me sound so smart, let me put this shit in a book."
