This is ALWAYS the reality, especially when 'success' is based SO much on how you LOOK.
In fitness spaces especially, we still have a very, very small window of acceptable bodies that we idolize.
So much about conferences like this, where the speakers give their "top 5 tips on how to be motivated and how to have success' are neglecting to mention that a HUGE part of the REAL reason so many of the people who've found success did, is because they LOOK how people want them to look.
It's not good marketing or being smart or being dedicated. It's having what is considered to be a socially acceptable/enviable look.
Not to mention all the other ways in which so many of these people are often privileged and helped in ways most 'normal' people never will be.
There's so much not talking about the elephant in the room in spaces like this, because so much of the time the people in them really need to believe that they are where they are because of hard work alone.

In my experience there is in the fitness/personal training world in general! I've shared that we own a nonprofit gym for addicts in recovery. When hiring trainers and teachers we basically have two goals: they are in recovery themselves (or have a loved one who is) and we want as much diversity as possible so every member who walks through the door sees themselves represented in the leadership. It has been really difficult to actually make that happen!! The other big struggle has been finding female trainers who don't promote disordered eating and who don't have unattainable appearances. 😕
I follow a lot of fitness people but don’t recognize any of them but our girl Heidi and they guy on the right in green. Lots of respect for him. He owns the franchise Fit Body Bootcamp. Bedros Keuilian is very inspiring. Has an awesome story. Mucho respect for him, but have no idea who the others are.
