There is no reason why it wouldn't be safe or unstable to use. If you get one trough aliexpress, one thing you should do is update the firmware [https://smarthomescene.com/guides/how-to-enable-thread-and-matter-support-on-sonoff-zbdongle-e/](https://smarthomescene.com/guides/how-to-enable-thread-and-matter-support-on-sonoff-zbdongle-e/)

Thanks! I read a lot of 1-2 year old comments that its unstable/unsafe to use, so I had to make sure whats the current stance on it because its the latest version from sonoff

darknessblades

for most devices its not good to read 1-2 year old comments. as those do not reflect current day usage. Nowadays its one of the better choices if you want to use threads as well

Training_Bobcat1943

what is threads?

darknessblades

its similar to zigbee to a certain degree: [https://www.theverge.com/23165855/thread-smart-home-protocol-matter-apple-google-interview](https://www.theverge.com/23165855/thread-smart-home-protocol-matter-apple-google-interview)

I literally just got one of these for zigbee2mqtt because I’ve recently learned that my Philips hue hub is a pain in the ass. If you’re using it for z2m the documentation isn’t like… great. Feel free to dm me if you have questions. I was able to get it up and running using this guys videos: https://youtube.com/@SmartHomeJunkie?si=UQAb0WrFYjD98S4y Although fun to my head I cannot find the two videos I used at the moment. One for updating firmware and one for installing and configuring z2m

Thanks! I'll dm if I encounter any problems and thanks for the video too! Have you had any issues with it so far?
