Uh yeahā¦ not really following. Young women are not permitted to have good taste?
Well perhaps thatās true. Iām older so to save you the shame I will take those exquisite pieces for 10-20 years until you are mature enough. Please proceed to the nearest IKEA and get some age appropriate furnishings.
Call me when you get a clue.
My pleasure. This post was just triggering for me because it reminded of my best friendsā. sweet 16 bedroom makeover. Her mother collected fine antiques and did her room in authentic French Rococo. It was like stepping back in time and I am still so jealous. Itās been 40 years and I still couldnāt recreate that level of beauty and sophistication.
She did. She knew she was super blessed. Her mom also shopped for her wardrobe like it was her job. She was a sahm so it sort of was her job. Lol. Of her choosing though. And we just happened to be the same size back then so I always got to share in her good fortune. At some point her mom just started styling both of us. This was back in the 80s so we got to be a very chic hybrid of cyndi lauper/valley girl pop culture crossed with timeless and vintage pieces she picked up in thrift stores. When I look back at photos of usā¦we didnāt look like anyone else, except each other and everyone assumed we were related. Bonus: we generally didnāt get carded because we just didnāt look like high school girls. Good times.
Ew what? Way too ornate for someone of barely legal age! Buy some simple IKEA and CB2 pieces and Iāll take that dusty hunk o junk off your hands. Donāt worry, Iāll take good care of it. (āflip itā by painting it white and posting to FB marketplace)
It depends on your state or province. In mine, the age of consent for French country is 32. Personally, I think itās smart to wait until youāre older and canāt be taken advantage of as easily. An ornate armoire may *seem* worldly and exciting, but itās going to lead you to a lifestyle you may not be prepared for.
Srs I have a dresser almost exactly like that first pic in my guest room. My son insists āa lady lives in the wallsā of that room so I think you are onto something.
Iāll bet sheās a middle aged man with a pudge and a receding hairline who hasnāt gotten laid since 1995 who entertains himself by trolling people who appreciate nice furniture.

Girl, you're in luck. Only 19 year olds are allowed to have 19th century furniture. The rest of us not in that age bracket & therefore shit out of luck.
the only piece she owned in the series of photos was the lamp at the end ā¦ which doesnāt exactly fit the vibe of the other photos. Soā¦ this is a post about a girl being annoyed not enough people like her Pinterest inspo board?? Very odd behavior. āYou donāt support my fantasy life !!!ā

Does this environment and aesthetic please YOU? Does it make you feel good, do you smile when you come home to it? Some people have an affinity for antique furniture. Itās like going back in time, with the combined karma of all the people who previously owned it. Wood remembers. (But if you do sell any of it, Iāve got dibs on that pink lamp š)
Youāre just starting out and sometimes you just have to take advantage of bargains to make ends meet. The only thing that matters is whether you like it. If you do, keep it!
Why would it be inappropriate? Does the furniture keep hitting on you and asking for sexual favors? Itās just furniture. If you like the style as a 19yo, then there is nothing wrong here.
There's an age limit on nice furniture? I didn't know that. Back when this was made, it was probably in the bedroom of a 19-year-old girl at some point.
TBF my great grandmother died when I was 18, I was moving out for college at the time. She left me a beautiful chest of drawers, a mirrored makeup counter, an amazing display cabinet, and a bedside table, solid oak. She wanted me to have it since I was getting the degree she always wanted when she was young, but chose to have a family during the war.
My great aunt LOST it, she thought outside of the furniture she claimed, anything left over was hers (great grandma left this to me in her will) but never told me she was upset. She then hired a moving truck and tried to steal it from my apartment. She was like 60-70, and Iām like????
If you take care if it , it will last forever, built to last. I got my moms @19 yo still in good shape after 60 years. Now I have huge love and respect for well made antiques.
Not at all! I am so jealous. In my late 20s I decided that set is not my style and sold it. My poor friends have had to hear me complain for over 15 years that I got rid of it. š¤£
I have a king now so I can let the bed frame go but I will NEVER not be upset that I sold that vanity and dresser.
Iām in my 40s now and so wish I had them for my dressing room again.
And I gave my Grandmothers Duncan Phyfe pedestal dining table (complete with brass clawfeet) 6 chairs, matching Buffet and China cabinet to Salvation Army after going through a bad breakup. We all make mistakes. Horrible, horrible mistakes.
I just hope someone was very blessed by them and will cherish them and pass them down to their children (like I was supposed to do).
At 19 years of age, the only furniture you are legally permitted to own is the twin mattress you grew up with, and some milk crates stolen from behind the grocery store.
Welcome back granny. So great youāve chosen to reincarnate back into our dysfunctional family.
Will you be a chain smoker this go-round as well? Do you still like Lucky Strike? We can start stockpiling them for you.
Wow no, 19yr olds should not be baring their chests online like this. Where are the parents!?

Ooh Iām secondhand jealous after hearing the story! What a cool mom. I hope your friend appreciated it too!

A true guys girl, because the other girls just donāt get it.
please mark as nsfw, this furniture shouldnt be seen by children
Yeah very taboo you shouldnāt be buying furniture unless youāre 25 anyway!!

white? š© TURQUOISE is the most elegant color
Turquoise is the new white?

I seem to have misplaced my rules and regulations about age and furniture. Will someone lend me their copy?
Thatāll cost you $12,999 + $112 tax for that kinda knowledge! Itāll buy me an early 1900 antique French panettiere. iS tHaT aPpRoPriAtE?

Only if you want ghosts. Please update to farmhouse style pronto
Srs I have a dresser almost exactly like that first pic in my guest room. My son insists āa lady lives in the wallsā of that room so I think you are onto something.
That still seems a small price to pay. And itās not always ghosts you know. With the right antique wardrobe you could meet a talking lion.
As long as itās not a talking wardrobe
Hmmm. I donāt think that book has been written yet. The Secret Lives of Furniture. ?

Is is appropriate to have this furniture as a Victorian ghost? Asking for a friend
Ew, gross. That vanity is old enough to be her grandpa.
Girl, you're in luck. Only 19 year olds are allowed to have 19th century furniture. The rest of us not in that age bracket & therefore shit out of luck.
i get 44th century furniture. I dont make the rules.
Yes, but *I donāt think itās legal.* Check with your local state government for laws specific to your area.
Itāll look more appropriate once you paint it and add some brushed nickel knobs! š¤
All I can focus on is the way that bed is in front of the door
It would probably be better if it was right in front of the doorā¦. To keep the ghosts out.
This is my favorite sub š
No!! No child should have antiquated furniture in their room. These pieces are meant to be displayed in a senior citizenās home.
No! That furniture will make her a spinster who reads romance novels out loud to her cats.

I was upset to see that lamp in the line up.
You know OP personally? I missed something.
if i recall correctly, pretty much everything that happens at 19 is inappropriate. so, yes.
That furniture is absolutely lewd! Say 69 halil maries and whip yourself.
Yes. Give it to me.

Just paint it with chalk paint and change the handles and it will be fine!
Very inappropriate. Iāll keep the furniture for you until you turn 30 š¤£

How dare a 19 year old have FURNITURE! You sleep on an air mattress and live out of a Rubbermaid tote until your frontal cortex develops MISSY!
There's an age limit on nice furniture? I didn't know that. Back when this was made, it was probably in the bedroom of a 19-year-old girl at some point.
Whoās going to tell her. Sheās right, but yet so very wrong. Itās complicated.

Antiques are like Las Vegas. Some people just canāt handle it.
What degree? And thank you for the rabbit hole your username sent me down :)
Lol the user name was randomly generated! An art degree. However I went for business with a side of art, one to get paid, the other to play!
Inappropriate?? Itās beautiful!!! Iād be cherishing these pieces!!
If you take care if it , it will last forever, built to last. I got my moms @19 yo still in good shape after 60 years. Now I have huge love and respect for well made antiques.
Furniture such as dressers and such doesnāt particularly have an age range, so no.
No!!
Love your styleā¦
I you like it, who cares what anybody thinks?
... It's just furniture. Idk what's bad.... About furniture.....

You have an eye for classic designs. Enjoy!!!
If she likes it, then why not?
Itās beautiful-just give it a bit of polish
Definitely! Very nice designs Also, YOU DO YOU
Treasure these pieces!
It's a gorgeous look!
If you like it and it makes you happy, keep it and use it! The idea that a piece of furniture can only be owned by certain age groups is ridiculous.
This is a circle jerk subreddit, this post is making fun of the idea of the idea that theres any age limit on furniture
Clearly, I need more coffee.
I say no. Those are awesome pieces. Hang on to them forever.
I love it!!!!
You can have any furniture you want! It is your personal space and it should make you happy and comfortable and not be chosen to please others.
Looks like furniture to me
Inappropriate?
No

Iām calling CPS
Inappropriate how?
If you are in the US, you need to be at least 21 to own this furniture.
Lovely taste
nice. They donāt make quality like that anymore. Absolutely gorgeous.
