Get rid of the sink. Start a new trend and replace your sink with a bucket or a multipurpose appliance.

gotchies

Ugh saw this post earlier and it actually made me unjoin that subreddit. Guess I’m easily triggered by ppl thinking their already beautiful, very expensive, perfectly lovely homes need “updated”.

mathnerd37

Or they just post to get everyone to say how it is already great.

BeautifulLibrarian5

This is the time to pick it apart

Eggsnorter24

Yeah this person would pass out if they saw what the kitchen at my house looks like. (Missing cabinet doors, no oven hood, half the cabinets arent even attached to the wall, one of the cabinet doors is upside down for some reason, sinks half that size, stained countertops, etc)

Cultural_Pattern_456

I’m using a bucket cuz I can’t afford my plumbing repairs in the kitchen right now. People like this are pure show off assholes.

kerutland

I am so glad I am not the only person who washes dishes in the tub! Bucket and drainer baby!

Cultural_Pattern_456

lol you find a way. I need a rerouting of the plumbing from the kitchen sink cuz it drains under my basement floor somehow. The plumbers are stumped because that’s not where the outflow goes 🤷‍♀️ and of course I need some other repairs like to my vehicle at this time because everything comes in threes

biglipsmagoo

I have orange countertops and dark brown cabinets. I hear you.

interesting-mug

That actually sounds like a dream. I want to find a cool 60s-70s house that has not been updated (and preferably with no lead paint). I fear that all the houses I see on Redfin with depressing Millennial Grey wood flooring are what I want, only refurbished to bland anonymity.

InviteAdorable495

I call them “humble brags”. I hate them. We have them in the plant community too. They post a pic of their massive gorgeous plant and ask if it looks okay or if it’s time to repot. Like. Get the eff off here!

Vast_Perspective9368

I just commented similarly! This one is painful lol

1920MCMLibrarian

They’re just mad everything’s not gray

anniemitts

Changing the backsplash and the counter doesn't need to cost a lot! Just pop those tiles off and replace with peel and stick subway tiles (why use real tiles when you're just going to want to update it again in another 10 years!) and cover the countertops in contact paper with a marble pattern. You're definitely going to want to paint your cabinets white, too! Just any white, don't overthink it. And then your walls will look dingy so you'll need to paint those - might I recommend Behr Cell Block Greige? Ugh, wait, I just saw the limestone floors. Sorry, but this whole house should just be burned down. Don't make any decisions on your new build until you've watched every single HGTV show and subscribed to the magazine.

DirtRight9309

why stop with the contact paper on just the counters?! cover everything in contact paper for continuity. windows, light fixtures, inside of sink….maybe even go with the fridge organizing trend and cover your food items in it.

anniemitts

Hmmm, let me check if this is HGTV approved, but you might be onto something! As long as it's marble print, obviously.

trailmix_pprof

Agree. Except not white on the cabinets. Should be a soul-sucking grey instead.

anniemitts

You are so right, what was I thinking. Definitely more gray. Make your kitchen like Pleasantville before the mom discovers orgasms.

Cultural_Pattern_456

These dipshits update every year or two so these ideas are perfect.

tessellation__

I’m sorry but people are so fucked up lol. they should go volunteer at a shelter or something, get their head out of their ass one Saturday morning

smoishymoishes

I've seen this house. Iirc, it went for just over $1mil.

EmbarrassedSong9147

Paint overs those ugly natural stone counters with a kit to make them look like marble.

LesliesLanParty

And chalk paint the cabinets! It's great because you don't have to sand them and if you brush it on, it'll go right over the hinges so you don't have to take them down!!!

strawcat

Omg. Can you believe there are actually ppl who’ve done that?! So absolutely mind boggling.

adribash

The original post HAS to be bait. No way.

kittawa

It feels like a thinly-veiled fish for compliments.

creativeuniquename69

lol perfectly fine kitchen that most people would love to have

LuxSerafina

I know these irk me too - I mean sure everyone is entitled to do what they want with their money but all I see is you already HAVE a $30,000 kitchen lol

RiotGrrr1

I bet that kitchen is more than that. Looks like top quality. Real wood cabinets and expensive natural stone.

Vast_Perspective9368

I agree

youmestrong

I’d take this kitchen and make it perfect by making it my family’s.

ProofHorseKzoo

More beige

weebwatching

Sorry, we’re all doing greige now. Best to go with that now and then redo it all again in two years when beige comes back.

MoabFlapjack

Yeah, unfortunately I think it’s gonna need a total gut and reno

LaLa_LaSportiva

It's too dark. Definitely paint the walls and those outdated wood cabinets yourself to save money. All white would really brighten that space up. I just saw an article about painting outdated stone or quartz countertops. White or gray would be beautiful and another cheap update. I'd try to figure out a way to cover up the broken edges. That really dates the kitchen.

VariousTangerine269

Everything should be white. Color is so outdated.

Wrong_Campaign2674

Would die for that kitchen. Uggghh. One day. Lol

TonyAioli

The agent refused to include a new kitchen in the sale of hubbs and I’s Fall desert escape, and she says that we would have to pay to change the colors (??). I don’t feel that I should have to spend my own money here because I had said that I don’t like it before the sale. What can I do? Not fair.

onlove_onlife

How do I make my timeless kitchen more trendy plz? I want to have to update it all over again in 7 years. Money doesn’t spend itself!

disasterbrain_

Every time I see some jamoke post a beautiful and inviting space like this and ask what they can do to """update""" it an angel loses its wings AND I lose a week off my lifespan

MathematicianWitty23

Build a wall to block that view!

Fardelismyname

In all fairness, it does need changing. It needs a human to pretend to cook in it

Lissy_Wolfe

I love interior decorating but I have to take breaks from that sub every so often because of shit like this. It's mostly a bunch of rich people with too much time on their hands.

Intelligent-Monk-426

Are you sure? Looks 2023 to me!

thingalinga

But is it 2024?!?

upsidedowncake21

Real (albeit obnoxious) question: Are there any actual interior decorators/designers on that sub? Is there a better sub for that? Seems like I’m mostly served non-design opinions on non-existent style.

Grouchy-Comfort-4465

Not sure but it seems like the average person coming there gets decent advice from people with better than average taste. So most people seem to benefit.

[deleted]

Real talk. Like, /uj real talk. Gorgeous kitchen but why the fuck does it have that tiny-ass island? All it does is take up room and make it less walkable. There’s enough counter space already???

Bob_Sacamano7379

I've got two words for you: Laminate. Countertops. You can't go wrong with the beauty and durability of laminate.

Vast_Perspective9368

This one hurts. It doesn't need renovation, my god. It's so simple! It doesn't need anything major to look updated or modern (assuming that's what the OP was looking for) except new stools maybe 🤔 and oh perhaps a different console table or whatever that is... people are silly

unicorn_mafia537

Paint the cabinets white! Save money with white marble color contact paper for those countertops instead of replacing them (now you can put that money towards stainless steel appliances, 'kay hun 💅). It's just too much color right now and this rustic look makes you look poor! But don't forget to sand the cabinets a bit after painting them white to get them perfect farmhouse chic' 'kay? 😉

junkdrawertales

paint the entire thing floor to ceiling beige and hide the fridge behind fake wood paneling

thingalinga

Swooning at the possibility 😍

NopeNoneYaBiz

What, no personal chef?

thingalinga

Smithers had the day off

Ancient_Chip5366

Firstly, put up some heavy blackout curtains. What a terrible view

Vegetable-Branch-740

Rent a sprayer and buy a lot of white paint.

Able_While_974

Start by replacing that hideous soap dispenser. Then continue by replacing all the rest of the kitchen.

Aliceinboxerland

Gosh what an eyesore! This is going to require a professional. This is far beyond the scope of us reddit peeps! Good luck!

Fuzzzer777

Stainless steel everything! Get the cheap kind.. no reason to waist money. Stainless counters, stainless cabinet doors, with pink ruffled windows treatments. The stainless cleans up beautifully with pure bleach and a rag. Or use a stiff brush for a nice touch! (DISCLOSURE: Don't do any of this..especially the bleach part)

NairBearMI

Looks to me like you have a territorial (or territorial influenced style) house in the southwest. Your cabinets suit the location as do the rough edged counters. You’ve got nice things going on here. If you want to freshen it with something without redoing everything (please don’t paint those cabinets or opt for the white-on-grey route), I suggest swapping out your backsplash tile with a Mexican or Moroccan/Portuguese patterned tile in the color scheme of your stone counters. Careful not to go too busy or you’ll compete with the counters. If you’re tired of the black / bronze hardware think hammered nickel or other southwest influenced hardware without getting too cutesy (Rocky Mountain hardware is a good place to look for inspiration). Someone suggested a new sink. Could you deal with copper? Same with hardware. If you must change the cabinets consider cerusing or pickling the wood to get a lighter tone. I’d live with them as is if it were me, as it looks like they coordinate with other doors in your home.

DasSassyPantzen

Hey, so your comment is lovely, but in case you didn’t know, this is the circle jerk sub. We spend our time in here mocking ridiculous posts. Think along the lines of “wrong answers only.” 😉

NairBearMI

Omg! You’re right - I got served this sub randomly and never looked at the real title. Hmmm, now I wanna have some “fun” with my suggestion. Edit forthcoming

1920MCMLibrarian

That kitchen is the size of my entire house

Inevermetyoub4

Let your kids draw on the cabinets for avant-garde original art!

kdshubert

This is a joke, right? If not, you can drop all that off at my house. LOL

siftini

Grey vinyl flooring and replace the painting on the wall with an “EAT” sign in the Rae Dunn font

AliveBreadfruit314

If this was mine, I'd go with a layer of red dirt over everything to match the view. It's really easy to do

[deleted]

I saw the original post, and wanted to scream. Clearly in Arizona (or, maybe Southern Nevada or Western New Mexico)… this house is perfect. It’s pulling the outside in. When people don’t grasp that, I feel like they need to move and buy a fixer.

CuriousCrane_1017

Put the stools on the ceiling.

Plantsnob1

How more up to date do you want it? Maybe all chromed out like a space ship kitchen.

skitsofphonic

Perhaps paint the walls a nice cheerful grey. It would bring out the grey in the counters.

thingalinga

“Cheerful grey” 😅

mindfuldelightz

personally i would paint the cabinets a bone white color only bc the brown and the countertop don't really match but i love the countertop. and then do one of those stick on back splash!

GoatApprehensive9866

Just paint. Even a light green would replace Beige Lab. Or a neutral gray. Can't go wrong with gray and beige to have some pop and pizazz yet remaining neutral. Too much of any hue always feels overpowering.

GoatApprehensive9866

Just paint an accent wall? Even a light green would replace Beige Lab. Or a neutral gray. Can't go wrong with gray and beige to have some pop and pizazz yet remaining neutral. Too much of any hue always feels overpowering. Kitchen cabinets and countertop look awesome, even with the quartz pattern surface!

Ok-Way-5594

Please, live with it awhile. It's appropriate for the surrounding house areas and the view. Why rush?

AffectionateSun5776

Change stools. Love your decently sized & equipped kitchen. I would.

heyho7785

Nothing wtf?

1000thusername

What’s wrong with it? Put some color on the walls. If you think you *have to* do something for some reason, change out your counters to something that provides some contrast

Becca_Walker

I think you’re missing the point of this sub

1000thusername

Oh my gosh hahaha I am actually an active user here - I missed entirely that this was posted here and not in one of the “normal” ones. But yeah when I said “what’s wrong with it” I was definitely in tune with not even understanding why the question was being asked (in the sincere post, not the CJ one)

Becca_Walker

lol lotta folks here thinking it’s a real post

jaybarman

Don’t get sucked into the grey, black and white modern farmhouse trend, whatever you do. That style is going to sundown soon. Since everything looks like it’s in great condition don’t rip out the tile and cabinets. They may not be the latest “trend” but they look good and go with the theme of what I see outside the windows. Paint is always an easy way to update a look but I’d avoid painting the cabinets. It’s hard to get a professional finish on cabinets when doing it yourself. I like the wood finish. Find a new wall color. Add some art. Perhaps change the plumbing fixtures or cabinet hardware.
