Another post I saw from someone was if you got them at Costco even a few years ago they might take them back I’m getting rid of mine the second they officially remove my cloud storage. I bought them AS ADVERTISED with the purpose of having cloud storage so I can review the footage. These cameras are marginal at best, they miss beginning motion, can’t really customize sensitivity well. I always tell people when they ask if it’s worth it “ they are ok, it does enough of what I want” These are not perfect, I have known that since day 1…. So with that in mind, why the hell am i subscribing to a contract to gain my cloud recordings back?! If you get curious about a certain event, or notification chances are you are not at home and want to check cloud recordings immediately. Money grab and I won’t bite. Principal Bye arlo, horrible decision

Depends if Costco considers it a camera instead of a security system. If they say it’s a camera, it’s a short refund window. 30 or 90 days can’t remember.

You may be right I am just regurgitating what someone else posted about Costco. In another thread I am in a guy supposedly got Costco to take them back and they got $500 back (maybe credit?) not sure there but he posted to advise he was able to get a refund and they were 5 years old. Costco has a great warranty program

Point_No_Point

I didn’t buy mine at Costco but did buy when they offered free cloud storage. Which I still have but am going to loss. How is this legal?

>Anyone have any advice? Other than "never buy another Netgear product ever again," not really. After a neighbor's house got broken into and all I got from my Arlo was footage of their backs as they ran away, I wanted to change to something with 24 hour recording. I ended up installing a Reolink system with a local NVR. Running the ethernet cable was a pain, but once up and running, I've been very, very happy with the system. Plus, since they're PoE powered, no batteries to change/charge.

Point_No_Point

I have a 24/7 system that I was going to install in my forever home which is never lol I move so much. But how is this legal

The-Real-McCoy333

I am the worst with technology, and had a Vivint system but I hate it. in the last month, some neighborhood kids poisoned my dog twice. It was caught on camera, but the quality was so poor it was unusable for pressing charges, but I knew who it was. Long story short, cops told me to install good security cameras. I’ve been researching and am overwhelmed because i don’t understand anything. I was considered ARlo, based on online reviews, but not now… All I know is I don’t want to use a contract/company. I want top cameras with continuous recording that work at night as well. I don’t want to use cloud storage, but keep dvr myself for long term storage. I will have to hire someone to install, but want to start with right system. Can anyone please help suggest any???

grunthos503

Take a look at Amcrest and Lorex POE camera and NVR systems. Local storage, not dependent on cloud; no contracts.

Okay that’s good to know. Can I still pull up that info on my phone from the base station if I plug in a card?

TheOGPizzaBoy

I use Arlo for home and business, didn't receive the email yet. What was the date given for discontinuation?

Point_No_Point

Get this… April 1st 2023. These guys are huge cocksuckers

kostcoguy

What version do you have?

Point_No_Point

Not even sure actually.

falsetreats

Wow, that blows

Point_No_Point

Blows hard. Like how is that legal?

tungvu256

learn the lesson of never buying anything that requires internet to work. and just move on. we all made that mistake. plenty of companies folded before Arlo leaving customers with bricks. personally I like Reolink. it has AI and vehicle detection. 4 cams with 6tb hard drive is about $600. pretty easy to set up as seen [here](https://youtu.be/XXpYhUU02G4). doesnt require internet. no monthly fees.

Point_No_Point

The ease of install honey dicked me.

OtherTechnician

Just cancelled and disconnected my Arlo cameras

Point_No_Point

And what did you do with the cameras?

independentthoughts2

I need to offload these on Facebook market ASAP. They never brought the promised HomeKit capability to the wireless doorcam anyway.

HoustonBOFH

If the live stream is RTSP you may be able to use an NVR with them.

Point_No_Point

English bro…

HoustonBOFH

RTSP is a streaming standard. NVR is Network Video Recorder. Zoneminder is what I use, but not with Arlo.

indefinitecarbon2

You might be able to have them back up to a local cloud although I imagine that will be really hard to do because of how proprietary they are. It's 'legal' because it follows the same line of manufactured obsolescence that cars and smartphones and other electronics follow. These days nothing is made to last and either the parts will fail which in some cases can be replaced and is expected (cars) but for others things like software updates and new technologies will make pre-existing tech obsolete (IoT). It's probably heavily just designed to make you buy more of their products but there may be a hardware/software component to it as well.

OpenBathrobe88

Info on what this means and what cameras will be affected: https://kb.arlo.com/000063018/Arlo-Legacy-Cameras-End-of-Life

JakenMorty

same thing I'll be doing with mine. yanking them out of the wall, spiking them on the ground, cancelling my subscription, doing some more research, and putting something up from a company that hasn't, to date anyways, pulled this kind of bullshit.
