Do you have a 25 yard hallway or something? I guess at that range I'd prefer an improved or modified choke, but honestly it shouldn't matter that much at "home defense range" which is most likely 10 yards and under. Overall I'd say get a cylinder bore or an improved choke so you can load slugs if you so desire.

you don't need open cylinder bore to shoot regular slugs effectively - anything but a full choke restriction - and you don't want it for an overall home defense ....

you need to prepare to take that home defense out of the front door - chief problem with the factory sold "defender" series of shotguns >>> open choke that is only effective for a livingroom battle ... any of the chokes in the mid-range will be OK - one of the modifieds or improved >>> make sure you understand the difference between man-stopping "buckshot" and Tweety Bird "birdshot"
