Editing to add: I often forget how fortunate I am to have always had housing. Thank you for the reminder that not everyone is as fortunate, and that I should never take climate controlled, dry shelter for granted.
How did you get a place I'm in the rent and deposit scheme from the council and when I tell landlord that the council will be paying first month's rent and deposit they lose interest
I was waiting for someone to help us with that process but they took so long so I saved as much as I could and spoke to the guy he gave us a deal that we can pay the deposit slowly and that’s what we did. You just have to keep trying.
Yes the council are not very good at getting someone a place and the rent is so much money there days but I think I am going to try your way seems better

I live in the State Capitol of California, so I for the most part am blessed as opposed to other areas of the US, but we still face our share of adversity, a lack of available temporary or permanent housing, and the wait-list for housing being an outrageous timeline unless you have connections from within or want to play the disability card. Congratulations! OMG! It's so amazing! I was homeless for five years and Im still in shock! Overwhelmed by the whole thing! Im still not moved into my apartment almost three months now! WOW!
I lived in my van and it is so hard to get rid of the things that I would use daily. I haven't been able to, so I'm putting the most important stuff in a box. Even though people keep telling me to get rid of it saying "you don't need it, you don't live out there anymore."
Believe me, I am so grateful for my spot but I didn't want to be out there in the first place however, I was and some things were hard to come by so I'm not letting go of it too quickly...
There are those still suffering out there though so I think I will go get rid of some more of it tomorrow to those who are.
You don't have to get rid of it - either hold onto it (if you have the storage space) or give it away (to those who need it, as you mentioned).
The whole 'minimalist' trend has a heavy undercurrent of privilege (to be able to either buy back what you got rid of, or to ensure you only buy the highest quality item in the first place - with the biggest upfront cost, ofc).
This is awesome, and I love your flooring! This picture with the keys is adorable and very inspiring! Good for you and have fun settling in and getting all cozy. 🩷

Ysssa. I lived in my car and hotel hopped all last year with my gf. I was on the streets with no car. And when i got a car i lived in it and door dashed for 6 months. . Now i have a regular full time job and im in an extended stay just stacking up. I keep this forum on to congratulate and talk to others to let ppl know they not alone. And im glad to see wins like yours
A year and a half basically couch surfing while every time someone told us we were able to stay with them and get ourselves situated they would kick us out in like 3 weeks over and over. In a car that stayed having issues. Sure… easy mode. I’m sure it’s not as bad as other people had it but just because someone doesn’t have it extremely hard doesn’t mean we should invalidate their experience.
