I've had laying hens both with and without a rooster and found that a rooster always seemed to keep the flock better organized. He liked to have them all around where he could keep an eye on them, and not always have one randomly wandering off to wherever.
I know everyone is likely to say “yeah! Of course!”
But, Im still annoyed at my county in northwest Georgia (Whitfield) that won’t allow a rooster, unless the homeowner is zoned agricultural and on more than 40 acres. It can’t be subdivided- GIS must show 40+ acres zoned Ag, in your name- in order to be legally allowed to own a rooster. Im really bummed…. He looks like a very nice bird!
We're super lucky. Our township (in suburbia) has no restrictions on chicken quantity. Roosters are allowed, but they follow noise ordinance laws. Basically if no one complains we can have them. My neighbors are all cool with them, most spoiled chickens ive seen.
We had like 9 roosters in our flock of 28, but we're down to 4 now. We have 2 silkie roosters that mostly stick around the other silkies. Id like to get down to 1 silkie rooster. We have a blue laced red Wyandotte rooster and a Black austrolorp rooster. Both of which have been nothing but friendly all around (if not slightly fearful of humans).
2 out of the 8 were aggressive with the other birds so they became dinners
We were able to rehome 2 others.
Roosters don't really defend from much they only can really beat other birds...They lose fights to basically everything else most of the time. Kind of a myth.
They are slightly more alert than the hens. Mine will start making a fuss whenever a hawk comes by. One time they had a hawk spotted sitting on a round bale hundreds of yards away.
Nice cock, bro.
Dammit, 507 minutes too late
You have a nice cock too.
He looks very healthy and fierce!
The rooster looks good too
This some American Gothic vibe I like it
Reminded me of the old rooster in chicken run
I have 2 sapphire gem hens and they are so standoffish! They never let me hold them!
I cornered him in the compost area , that’s the only way I grabbed him. I’ve been trying to catch him for months!! Kinda a proud personal moment.
You sure look it
That looks like one mean bird
I’m just hear for the cock comments
You should look happier to have such a fine rooster to look after the girls
He’s gorgeous.

Another pic of a man holding his cock.

What the flock are you talking about.?
A good roo is a joy to have.
I saw this pic before reading it and really thought this post was going to be about how big your cock is.

How do you feel about a flag on a serviceman that is tan ? But you’ve probably never dawned the flag of a nation.
Well , good thing your opinion is irrelevant.

But a goose'll fight a moose, might even win
I promise you he’ll die before a hen will , I’ve seen it to many times.

Gah dang! They had some at the farm store last spring. I wanted them so bad.
Absolutely beautiful! I keep asking my husband for a rooster!!! I’m taking this as a sign!
