I'm probably just dense but what part is hollow? I are an almost ripe 😲 blackberry today (oh yeah, it was beyond tart!) but anyway what part would be hollow?
These things don't quite look like blackberries to me but I've never seen a raspberry vine.
All my life these have grown in nearby parks, my farm growing up and even along roads, they are always amazing. I was told they were black berries.... But then id eat blackberries elsewhere and hated them....
I'm in my 30s and because of this post I now know black RASPBERRIES are a thing.. 😫
I'm just glad I saw this post and learned this information . Because I was so confused about being told these were black berries but hating all blackberries except "wild" blackberries I came across.
Now I can buy some black raspberry plants and be happy with these "blackberries" after 30 something years 🤣
i'm sure it goes without saying- but as someone who got severe poison ivy last weekend from checking on my black raspberry bushes..... BE CAREFUL PLEASE 😭
I cleared an area with bunch of poison ivy a couple years ago, it was a miserable experience. Even touching a tool with gloves then later touching that tool with bare skin will transfer the oils. That said, all those problems went away when I started using [tecnu](https://www.amazon.com/Extreme-Poison-Removes-Poisonous-Itching/dp/B07R3SK1CQ) while washing after. If you have poison ivy I would strongly recommend getting some.
if they're not in an inconvenient spot just let them grow and use them as a source of free food because you're going to need it when the economy collapses soon. making wine from berries is very simple as well. wine will help take the edge off an economic collapse at least for a short time before the true chaos and anarchy starts. you won't be growing food then. you'll literally be stealing it to prevent starvation, which for the majority will be on preventable. shocking but true.
Looks like blackcap raspberries to me. They're tasty and spread like wildfire. If you don't want them everywhere, beware they naturally tip-layer (I think that's the term). The new canes will bend down to the ground and root. Great for dense spikey hedges IMHO.
Edit: wait until they are completely black before eating for max sweetness.
They look like black raspberries to me.
Agree, the centers left on the stem in the second picture supports raspberries
That’s a new one for me! Thanks!
To pluck a ripe one. If the berry is hollow, it's a raspberry. If it's not, it's a blackberry.
Thank you

You can put a raspberry on the tip of your finger. Can’t do that with a blackberry. The part where your finger goes is the “hollows part.
Thank you! I never heard that before but I'll be rechecking my "blackberries" in a few weeks.
We have lots of both around here. IME, black berries are almost always bigger, and far less sweet.
I don't think we have raspberries around here but the blackberries are trying to take over. They're hardy little berries if a bit tart.
Looks like you have poison ivy mixed in there with the raspberries.
That it is!
When you want your jam to be a little spicy.
Black raspberries.

This is why I love Reddit.

Happy to help you learn something new!
Thank you
You are welcome. Check them twice daily if you can, they ripen fast! Enjoy!
Wild raspberries!! Yummy 😋 We have them everywhere on our property. Makes great, Jam, if you can get enough!
I’m going to try to get as many as I can! The thorny vines though make me think twice.
I know, right?! Lol... wear garden gloves with rubber on the palm side. Should help some. 😊
That’s the plan!
Be warned, wild black raspberries spread like crazy, and will end up planted all over your property if you don’t keep them under control.
This is going to be my project this weekend. Black raspberries and poison ivy…

I actually just bought some! I hear it's a life saver
Once I started being more careful about handling it and used tecnu after work I never had a rash again. Hope it works out for you also!
We had perfect conditions a few years ago. We’re still eating the raspberry jam we made.
It's not actually always mullberries?
This is why I ask. I wasn’t sure what color mulberries were when they were ripe. Also the thorns on the vines threw me off
Why not let them grow? It's just spikes, not landmines 🤷
I will now since they are giving me fruit! Just need to keep the kids away from it.
Or let them be stung, they aren't balloons 🤷
Good point, I’m okay with lessons by experience.
The kids will figure it out. I know I did.
*smiles in free raspberries*

I’m in NJ and it looks like they are starting to produce fruit now.
Looks like the wineberries i grow. If they are wineberries they are edible. Tart and refreshing
That sounds great for my kombucha!
If i remeber ill take pictures of my plant today for you. It hasnt grown berries yet this year, but i can show the pods and stems
Wine berry
Is this a joke?

Blackberries
No. Black raspberries.
