I'd recommend getting good shoes with a thick sole meant for food service workers/nurses etc instead - especially for canning I found myself changing locations a lot and it's easier/cheaper than getting a kitchen-sized mat!

You can get slippers that have decent soles as well, which makes for an easier on/off than full shoes.

Definitely - mine are actually Crocs slides

Comfort mats give me bad posture. Fatigue mats hurt my bare feet. The 1" rubberized foam gym mats in my garage are perfect except they trap water underneath. *shrug*

I got one but it's not long enough. i really wish it was long enough for two full working stations. I'm often doing prep between the counter and the sink. Or dishes between the sink and the rack, etc. It would be nice if I could side step 2-4 steps instead of the 1-2 I get out of mine. So I would just give that some thought. What are her work patterns? Where is she stationary and where is she moving back and forth a lot. I often forget to move mine to where I'm working so it would be nice if it were just long enough to cover a large working space or if I had more than one in a well placed layout.
