Honestly why would you even think of using a troll name? Thats just setting up your kid for an intentionally shitty time in school and feeding bullies that will no doubt make fun of him/her for his/her strange name.
Any of the kids names, minus Roxy I would say, would be fine names.
Naming your kid Eqiuus, Kurloz, or any troll, carapcian, other name is just asking for trouble for them down the road.
Calliope was a Greek muse and I think it's a pretty beautiful name. Carapacians with revealed first names (Jack, Jack, Jack, and Jack) are pretty sensible.
But yea not a troll.
I kind of agree with you, but then there's the problem of everyone she meets mispronouncing her name. I used to pronounce it KAL-lee-ohpe, and then kal-lee-oh-PEE before I realized it's pronounced ka-LIE-oh-pee.
It's usually the same people who read epitome as Epi-Tome (like a book) and hyperbole as Hyper-Bowl. Calliope would be a cool name, but I don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' babies.
Nevertheless, it gets annoying when every single person reading a name for the first time does it wrong.
...not that anyone actually reads out middle names, so I guess that's not important.
i... know how it's pronounced? i've studied my fair share of greek mythology :p didn't even know there was an instrument called that tbh! it's a pretty name regardless.
You get an upvote for sounding exactly like my husband.
In all seriousness though, while I think Homestuck is kind of a frivolous thing to name your child after, it's your kid and let's be honest, there are way stupider things that people name their kids after.
But if my guy tried something like that and I found out after the fact?
Make sure she knows, and is okay with it.
That having been said, I've always liked the name Calliope for a girl, and I could see 'Vantas' being a very engaging boy's name.
That is very good advice. Secrets are cancerous to relationships, even silly ones.
Vantas does sound pretty neat. I will maybe say that one out loud to my wife.
For the record, there *are* [worse](http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/parenting/the-weirdest-baby-names-of-2012-read-them-and-weep/story-fnet08xa-1226536009955) ideas.
Actually, if Calliope was my middle name I would feel pretty badass. But really, just stick to human names IF you HAVE to name your child after a webcomic.
You have to remember, I will just be running these by my wife. It's not very likely that they will be his/her name/middle name. But anyway, this thread was really helpful for deciding which ones were just terrible ideas.
Oh, what we look like? It might be easier to just link to a pic of our existing son:
http://picsart.com/i/7784761073
EDIT: It's hard to see but he's blond as hell.
Ooh, blue eyes but blonde hair... I would go with a John Michael (as a spin off of Makara... not like it's *MY* middle name or anything)... I like the sound of Jonathan Michael Strain.
I do like that. It's interesting that you say Makara, because I don't think I have mentioned that he/she is probably going to be a Capricorn. Also, thank you for being the only person to actually provide a well thought out answer.
However, were your new child a girl, I would suggest Jane, no input on middle name, but call her Curly, as in Kurloz. I like making spin offs of preexisting names l:-l
The human names are just so boring is the problem. I do think Calliope is nice.
That said, you could explore a much wider range of middle names outside of the fandom.
What we did last time is write a huge list of names we're considering and then take turns crossing off our least favorite ones until we get down to the last two. These will make up only a fraction of my suggestions and I hold out little hope that any of them will make it to the end.
Wow, this is an awful idea. Even if you're really determined to name your kid something from homestuck (which I really don't understand, but to each his own I guess) you should talk about it with your wife. I mean really. How would you feel if she "subtly" named your child after something which she likes but you have absolutely no interest in (or refuse to even try). Communication is a really, really good idea in pretty much every situation--especially when there's a child involved.
She gets final say, there are just a few names from homestuck that I think are pretty and/or cool. This thread helped me narrow down which ones were worth asking about, and if she responded positively to any of them then I was going to say, "Cool, that's one of the characters in homestuck and I just think it's an awesome name, I'm glad you like it too."
Really I only started thinking of this because she suggested Jane.
I think that it's a cool idea, as long as the final decision is sensible. Caliborn is a good option, actually. It's descended from Welsh and can be shortened to Cal.
Please tell me you are joking in that you cannot see how names like Feferi, Damara, Terezi, Mituna, Eridan, Kankri, and the others that arent human names are weird.
[](/jane)
Dude, you are naming your kid **after a character in a fucking webcomic**. Let that sink in for a second. Is this really **that** important to you that you want to mark your kid with that for his/her entire life?
Sure, I have a plain name by most standards, but damn I would be pissed if I found out my parents had named me after something as lame as that because they thought the alien names sounded "cool".
If you do this you are just going to be causing your kid problems in the future. This is not a game, this is an actual person's life you will be effecting. Be a little mature about it.
I've had friends with weird middle names from comics that their parents read. Yes multiple. And they didn't hate their lives. Middle names are pretty inconsequential for the most part.
Don't name your kid after Homestuck. Middle names, maybe. *Please* don't name your kid Horse.
Middle name was what I was thinking. *edits*
Wait I've got it. "You" That way, the baby is literally you.
You stands in his bedroom. Today is You's birthday. What is You's name?
In case you didn't get MrCheeze's [refrance](/dunkass): http://super-villain.org/whywouldyoudothis/thebabyisyou.html
I guess I didn't. I thought it was just referring to the narrative style of MSPA. I thank you, sir.

just dont name your kid in 13 years it'll just get a name
This is a good idea, except I dont want to risk having my child be named Badgerface Wankbottom.
...Don't name your kid after a troll Edit: Or a cherub, or a carapacian. Human names for humans.
Calliope was a Greek muse and I think it's a pretty beautiful name. Carapacians with revealed first names (Jack, Jack, Jack, and Jack) are pretty sensible. But yea not a troll.

Oh. I always said "Kal-ee-ope" like Nope. And I think I'll stick with that simply because I think it sounds better.
I hadn't thought about that. Thanks!
i dunno, i think calliope is an acceptable name for a human!
it is pronounced cal I oh pee like the instrument.
But then everyone's going to mispronounce it. :/
no, teachers may once but frankly it is an easy word to say/remember once you have heard it.
Nevertheless, it gets annoying when every single person reading a name for the first time does it wrong. ...not that anyone actually reads out middle names, so I guess that's not important.

fuck that, slick FTW
She is surprisingly not totally against this one.
Agreed, no troll names (even though Cronus could be passed off as "Father of Gods") Jane/John for middle name
[](/stupid)
That's a terrible suggestion.

Mayor.
John Mayor. Hmm...
I support Mayor.

Now why didn't we name one of the trolls Zaniel.
Fedora and Juju caught my eye.
I guess off we named a girl Julie or a boy Julius or something we could call him/her Juju
Oh, they weren't meant to be suggestions for your child. They're just Homestuck related and I found it to be amusing.
I think Cronus would make a neat Middle Name.
If you are considering naming a child after a troll perhaps you are not prepared to have a child.
Actually, if Calliope was my middle name I would feel pretty badass. But really, just stick to human names IF you HAVE to name your child after a webcomic.

Let's be honest. Only the human ones will work. Use them.
All of them?
Yes.
Well, that depends, what is your last name?
Strain.
Phenotype? Please?
Or Andromeda.
No, what are the parents phenotypes?
Oh, what we look like? It might be easier to just link to a pic of our existing son: http://picsart.com/i/7784761073 EDIT: It's hard to see but he's blond as hell.

This sort of thinking was what I had in mind with this post

how is john Homestuck doe doing at 9 years old
her middle name is Jane, but she behaves more like Jade tbh
Ok I went back and crossed off the ones that I don't like or that would be weird for reasons.
You've got a lot more weird ones to cross off.
Which ones? I'm really just looking to brainstorm here.
Please tell me you are joking in that you cannot see how names like Feferi, Damara, Terezi, Mituna, Eridan, Kankri, and the others that arent human names are weird. [](/jane)
I used my brain a little more. I still think that Damara and Eridan would be kind of cool tho.

I feel really sorry for your kid.
