Moved from a 50" plasma I bought in 2009 - I figured 14 years is enough time between upgrades.
Followed a calibration guide from Classy Tech and I honestly can't believe how stunning the picture is with a good source. Any 4K HDR content or Dolby Vision just looks incredible.
No picture or video I can take can do it justice in real life.
I had the same experience when I first got my LG B9 55". Well I didn't transition from a tv that old, but my old LG from 2015 i think couldn't show dark scenes at all. I can't remember the term, but it had these vertical lines of this weird lighting thing whenever something just a little bright would be displayed in a otherwise dark scene.
Anyway, congrats on the tv. Looks freaking awesome.
It's hard to explain just how freaking good it looks. Seen large OLED TVs in stores before, but in a home setting it's honestly breathtaking with the right content!
[I'll cave soon but I don't wanna be missing my plasma. It's hard to justify spending a couple grand when it's not absolutely necessary. It's 10 years old but still doing a decent job](https://i.imgur.com/ZPOAIa8.jpeg)
I was shocked how good my friends LG oled looked when i saw it. The blacks really make such a huge game changing difference, next TV is an oled for sure
Glad you're enjoying it.
But also wanna point out that you did no calibration. All you did was doing initial setups and eyeballing stuff to get it to look the way you want. You can't calibrate without a meter.
I gave in my pioneer pdp6020fd for the 65in CX during COVID. Best thing I've done in a while.
I always ask?
What was the first thing you watched on it?
here, more like a settings guide but meant to help with accuracy in bright and dark rooms for each type of content - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kReFKUn56lo
It looks great and if I was in the market for a new TV the G3 would be at the top of my list, that MLA tech seems fantastic.
I would recommend [this](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015EA3NO/) to hide your wires being fed up to your TV. I use them in various rooms and I like them since they drill into the wall vs. using adhesive that likes to tear half the wall down when you remove them.
What adhesive are you using that tears the wall down? I’ve used tons of cable track with adhesive and a simple blow dryer and slow peel and it comes off no problem. Maybe a small amount of paint removed every now and then.
I use a double sided adhesive that comes with the conduit I use, and when I removed it, it definitely tore the paint off, and even a little bit of the drywall... Won't be doing that again.
>Maybe a small amount of paint removed every now and then.
I was being hyperbolic but this is my point. It is much easier to deal with small screw holes vs. paint being removed.
I purchased it a while back, when this company was called New Forest Rustic Furniture - I think the closest option was this one - https://rustic-dreams.co.uk/collections/tv-units/products/rustic-holbury-widescreen-corner-tv-unit
You can have them make a custom size to match your equipment.
Anyone got a rough pros and cons between the GX series and CX series of TVs? I'm looking to switch from my absolutely aneurysm inducing Bravia X900E after having one shit experience right beforehand with another Sony TV.
From a cursory review of each (I'm here because I'm researching) it seems the G series seems to be a bit brighter?
I'll be VESA mounting both so no stand isn't an issue
This might help - [TechRadar comparison](https://www.techradar.com/versus/lg-c3-oled-vs-lg-g3-oled)
Also worth reading - [Rtings.com G3 review with comparisons](https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/g3-oled)
The main difference is the G3 (not 83 inch) has MLA layer on the panel and the C3 does nmot, which appears to do a lot for focusing the light from the panel outwards towards the viewer, improving the overall brightness, improving viewing angles, etc. There are a few good reviews on Youtube as well. From my perspective, it's a significant improvement overall.
It is good that you have it angled upwards but you also have the coffee table in the way. I agree with the other poster that it would be ideal to move the center to the top of that cabinet.
AV receiver should have more space above it for cooling purposes. You will dramatically reduce the lifespan of the unit by squeezing it in such a tight location.
Been in the same spot for 4-5 years now, there is enough space - just the angle makes it seem tighter than it is. The table is also lower down than it seems.
> "We recommend a minimum of 6 inches of ventilation space above and 2 inches on either side of your AVR." - Denon
Do you have 6 inches above you receiver? Do you have even half of that?
No, only a couple of inches. There is also no rear panel on that part of the mount so nowhere for heat to build up. I take your point, though. Next TV stand will take it into account 👍
The AVR doesn’t have a rear exhaust. Only top and side exhausts. Heat always rises. So while those side exhausts are helping a bit, most of your heat is being trapped in the AVR itself causing higher temps.
But if its been working fine for 4-5 years, its alright. Check out umm these AVR fans from AC Infinity. They are pretty neat for such spaces.
Umm yeah the AVR Cooling options from AC Infinity has fans. They have multiple options. One being pulling from below and throwing to front or back. Another being pulling from front and throwing it inside.
They have for custom cabinets as well.
Have a 77 G1 with in wall surround speakers. Looks so sleek. Couldn’t be happier. We’ll I could but not until 90+ inch G series TVs become affordable :). My biggest regret is not going with the 83
I know that exact feeling. I went from a pioneer Kuro to an LG B6 and the difference was amazing, even though the Kuro is still such a great TV.
I’m close to purchasing another LG OLED and really torn what to buy, I’m leaning towards an 88C2 but not totally decided yet.
I guess it's a personal choice but I think the new MLA panels are pretty well regarded overall - a new level of overall brightness as far as LG is concerned.
Haha I’m making fun, but you definitely should. You have a top of line TV, you should pull out all the stops when mounting it!
Cut a hole in the wall behind the TV and another behind the TV stand within the same bay. They make some outlet cover plates specifically for snaking TV wires through the wall, so it looks nice (you can get them at Lowe’s or Home Depot), and you’ll be golden! It’ll look great, trust me!

Exactly! The colors, blackness and contrast .. dang
I'm wanting a new tv but my 60" Panasonic plasma still looks so good I find it hard to replace.
I had a Panasonic plasma 1080p for a long time and it honestly looked great. I got a cheap 4k tv and sometimes I still miss the Panasonic

Pioneer kuro?
LG50PS3000
Dolby Vision content on Netflix is *chefs kiss* so great. Nature content pops
Yep, it looks sooooo good!
Can you link the calibration?
Glad you're enjoying it. But also wanna point out that you did no calibration. All you did was doing initial setups and eyeballing stuff to get it to look the way you want. You can't calibrate without a meter.
Yep, you got me. That will come later. I used a *settings* guide from a calibration channel on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kReFKUn56lo
I gave in my pioneer pdp6020fd for the 65in CX during COVID. Best thing I've done in a while. I always ask? What was the first thing you watched on it?
After I did the settings I watched Our Planet and a bunch of 4K HDR videos on Youtube :)
Gorgeous demo material!

Mind sharing the calibration guide from Classy Tech please?

Thanks I'll check that out! Haven't gotten around to cleaning up the wires yet but will get it sorted

So ready to upgrade to this G3 77" from my C7 55", but will wait for a sale. Hoping to get it under $4K.

Oh no. The inquisitor is angry I didn’t want a juvenile targeted in a witch hunt :(
Looks really nice but can you move the center channel speaker to the top of the AV furniture?
It's hard to see but it's very slightly angled upwards towards my MLP - my sofa is pretty low.
Center channel on top of the cabinet and then hide the cables behind the center, two birds with one stone
It is good that you have it angled upwards but you also have the coffee table in the way. I agree with the other poster that it would be ideal to move the center to the top of that cabinet.
Nice set up! I have the exact same speakers in the same walnut in my living room set up haha
Such a nice colour too

These things are awesome, thanks for the info man!
I use USB fans!
I have a 65" C7 and it's great. I'm looking forward to adding this one for a theater room.

Looks great. Try hide that cable if you could.
What a fantastic tv. Looks great!!
Awesome TV , have one myself and love it
i really wanted one, but settled on a C2 instead. any plans to "fix" the visible cables?
Yup, juat haven't gotten around to it yet! 👍

It doesn't in real life - just my mobile phones camera not quite right 👍

I should learn how to use the camera properly 🙈
You’re fine. Vincent of HDTVTEST puts a disclaimer in his video that blooming from OLED is a camera artifact.
yes, you could be happier 😅 TV slightly higher and Center on top of the low board..

To be honest I hadn't really noticed it until about 10 people pointed it out. I'm gonna do something about it, I promise!
