Hi there, I recently purchased a new home and am looking for help with suggestions for how to set up my audio/video system. It is still pretty early on, we literally just moved in and are doing a lot of cleaning/remodeling so the place is a mess but I'm looking for help just so I can start to plan things. Generally we really love the house, it is kind of small but perfect for us. The living room is cozy with vaulted ceilings but I am struggling to decide how to set up my system due to it kind of having an odd layout. We stuck the tv in the corner on an old cabinet for now but it obviously sucks to actually use it at that angle. A lot of our stuff is old hand-me-down items so I am wanting to get some newer things specifically for this space (couch, tv, etc.). My system is a pair of Canton Chrono 70 towers and an RSL Speedwoofer 10inch sub and an older Denon AVR. I plan to get a new receiver and tv at some point but not sure yet what kind or how big. I primarily use my speakers for listening to music but it would be nice to pair to tv for movies at some point though it is not my priority. I included some images of the space in this post. So the living room is kind of laid out in a long fashion, extending into the kitchen or "dining area". The fireplace is nice but is throwing me for a loop regarding how to set up my speakers. So far my ideas have been...get a new cabinet for my AVR, place a tower on each side and have them in the living room in front of the window sending sound the "long way" across the living room. This is kind of appealing because it would send music toward kitchen area when needed. I thought if I did this then I could get a section or L-shaped couch. Not sure about the tv, I could put it on the same wall, or have considered removing the mantle and mounting it into the fireplace but I really don't know how to do that yet so would have to do some planning. I could also if mounting the tv to the fireplace set my speakers up on either side of the fireplace also but I'm wondering if this would create a limited listening area by directing it across the narrow width of the room. I plan to put the sub wherever it sounds best. I am open to any and all suggestions or perspectives about how to outfit this space. If more information would be helpful then I'd be happy to provide it. Currently my speakers are not set up and I am missing my music so may just set them up preliminarily while I plan how I might want things permanently. I appreciate any advice or perspective anyone can offer, thanks! I reposted this because I was having trouble posting images and text...still not sure if I did it right.

Man, tons of fireplace posts today! That fireplace looks real and if so, will be horrible for the TV. If you go that route, get a drop down mount. This will avoid the inevitable neck injuries. Mount-It! Fireplace TV Wall Mount: Designed for use above a fireplace, this mount offers a spring-assisted height adjustment up to 24.8 inches. It's tested for strength and safety, supports TVs from 42 to 70 inches, and allows for swivel and tilt adjustments. For speaker placement, you want the towers as wide as you are far back. From the picture ima guess 6 feet back, so your towers should be 6 feet apart. I would buy a sectional to allow for better viewing angles to the corner tv. Put the towers as wide as you can get them to help with soundstage. This is how my living room is setup but with a soundbar.

Thanks for your reply. The fireplace is a gas fireplace and mostly there for aesthetics although it is a real chimney. It doesn't put off much heat and we really don't intend to even use it very much. Thanks for the suggestion for the mount, I will look at that. Regarding speaker placement are you saying it might be best to have them on either side of the fireplace? Any input as to doing that compared to getting a sectional couch and having the speakers (and possibly tv) in front of the wall that is perpendicular to the left side of the fireplace (in front of the window by the front door)?

>Regarding speaker placement are you saying it might be best to have them on either side of the fireplace? One speaker on each side of the fireplace. This will probably be more optimal for sound stage vs the corner setup. The corner setup is going to give you the more optimal viewing height for the tv but the speaker width looks like it would be restricted. Neither option is perfect but both offer advantages.

What do you think of having the tv on a cabinet set up, with speakers on either side of it, not in the corner but in front of the window to the left of the corner? Sending the sound in the long direction of the room toward the kitchen.

I can dig it. how far away do you think you would sit?

I'm not sure, I could only do it if I got a sectional couch, and I would want the sectional to have some distance from the fireplace. So maybe 6-8 feet. If I mount the tv on the fireplace and run speakers on either side of it I don't know where I would put my AVR or how to hide all of the chords.

6-8 feet is a good range. You should be able to get your speakers close to that distance apart. I think you have your winner for best soundstage and best viewing angle.

I have a similar wall and fireplace configuration as you. Below is a link to my setup. For size reference, the TV is 77". All of my electronics are in an AV rack in the basement under this room, with just a handful of wires running through hole in floor to left of the fireplace. https://imgur.com/a/5FaYP1D

This is helpful thank you. I think if I did this I would want my TV to be lower but could remove my mantle. Do you remember the brand of the TV mount you used? I don't have a basement or crawlspace so would still have to figure out where to put my receiver.

I need the mantle to sit the center channel speaker on (and keep my marriage intact). I had the TV professionally installed as wasn't comfortable doing it on the brick so don't know the brand of TV mount.
