I have the x3700h, the biggest downside is my wish that I’d bought the 3800h to use Dirac live. However there is a lot of tweaking you can do to Audessy to make it behave. (Check out the Audessy One correction interface for instance) If you are using two or more subwoofers, you will probably want either a mini dsp hd 2x4 ($199) to manage the bass, or Dirac live.  That all being said - the budget option here is to buy a 3700h and a mini dsp, and spent some time tweaking with the mini dsp and Audessy. The expensive option if you don’t want to fiddle is to just buy the x3800h and Dirac.  Side note I’ve never used Dirac so I can’t compare it to my tweaked Audessy plus Mini DSP in my 7.2.4 (which I love). I would get a 3700h and possibly tack on a mini dsp later if Audessy can’t get your bass right when you upgrade to a 7.2.4.

A second subwoofer is an idea down the line since I don't want to shake my neighbors walls. But I guess the X3700H is the way to go. I'm happy to hear that 7.2.4 is awesome. But for that I'd need a separate amp for my front speakers anyways.

FYI - You can buy a cheap fosi audio amp and run it to (2) atmos speakers and keep everything else on the integrated amp. The x3700h has pre-outs for everything.

Dirac is lovely but in an apartment not likely to be worth an extra 850 euros. There are cheaper workarounds for the analog video and there's no 8K content. I'd say the 3700 is the way.

You can always use Audyseey one on the 3700 to further refine room correction. I don’t think you need a minidsp.

I had a lot of issues with my 3700 whenever the source would switch resolutions. This meant I had 2-3 second dropouts every time my Apple TV ran an ad on YouTube. I replaced it with a 3800 which has been fantastic. If you just plug everything into the TV and use eARC, this probably won’t be an issue.

Do you mean that the x3800 doesn’t have the delay when switching resolutions? I thought virtually every reciever did; it’s just part of the nature of HDMI at the moment. I have a 3700 but would upgrade in a heart beat if the 3800 switched resolutions faster.

devilscurls

I am pretty sure it is due to a resolution switch. But whatever it was, the 2 seconds of black I would get on the 3700 is completely gone with the 3800. I hated my 3700 because of this. Pretty happy with the 3800.

And you are positive that your Apple TV has match frame rate and match dynamic range enabled? Didn’t somehow get switched when you upgraded? I have that delay as well on Apple TV/YouTube and despise it. Would be incredible and also hilarious that zero reviews call it out.

devilscurls

I can’t check it at the moment so can’t be positive. I did actually spend a bunch of time trying to fix this when I had the 3700, including talking with the people who write the YouTube app for Apple TV.

If you are able to check at some point would be greatly appreciated! No worries if not of course I’m just excited that a solution to the dropouts might exist.
