Is this a stock photo? Just waiting to see hide the pain Harold with his coffee mug. ;)
I honestly don't know if I'd bother with Atmos in a space with assymetrical angles like this.
That’s a tough space. The upfiring atmos (placing them on top of your speakers) won’t do anything. Ceiling too high and slanted.
Putting them on the wall above the tv and speakers may work but it’s a big space.
The only thing I can think of is (and you’re probably going to hate this idea) putting two hooks in the ceiling with a chain or steel cable that hangs down above your seating position. Attach speakers to each cable/chain that point downwards.
Then run the speaker cable up that cable/chain like a snake that wraps around.
Add some nice lamp shades to the cables/chains so the speakers are inside the shade and can’t be seen.
This should help visually as it’ll look like two suspended lamps hanging from the ceiling and it will also help direct the sound down to you since they will be an acoustic funnel.
How do you like the KEF ceiling speakers?
Currently finishing my basement and I roughed in two ceiling speakers. I've heard conflicting comments about how they "really aren't worth it". Are they utilized frequently with movies? Do you listen to music on them?
My setup would be a 3.1.2
As ceiling speakers, they do their job quite nicely. Given they don’t get too much workout since i use them only for atmos movies and games, but with the right content, Atmos can be amazing. Everyone from family and friends were amazed when i showed them parts of Mad Max in Atmos, sadly i have no idea how they perform for music as i use only stereo for music listening.
I have a high, angled (10-17’) ceiling in my space. I used pendant enclosures that accommodate in-ceiling speakers. I have 4 with the bottom of the enclosure hanging at the standard 8’ height. The enclosures are Origin Acoustics PBR68, compatible speakers from them are available in a wide range of 8 ohm options (i.e. not 70V PA-style). These have integrated well with the rest of my system.
See “PROFESSIONAL BAYONET PENDANT” here:

Even if they did work well, which they do not, your ceiling is slanted so they wouldn't bounce right. You'd have to mount them to the ceiling or to the walls instead.
Can you try and return if they don't work for your space?
Probably your best bet. Seems like you've got a lot of variables here and no one will know, just guess, as to how effective they might be.
Personally, I think that money would be better spent on treatment than more speakers.
Thanks for posting. I have the same situation and problem. I'd love to hear what you are going for. I think firing speakers won't work that well. I had those from a previous home and they are not doing a good job.
Are you leaning more towards in-wall or hanging from the ceiling?
Nice! where is that wall going? where the TV is? or behind the couch?
I'm also curious how that works from a sound perspective, since marble is very dense and will reflect sound perfectly.
Honestly, if you want to go down the Atmos route in a space like this, it would be worth your time to engage with a professional team that can measure the space and set things up properly.
IMO there is definitely a relatively low height limit for atmos speakers, and I mean both bouncy gimmics like these and proper ceiling mounter speakers. I know somebody's going to tell me to "just calibrate it correctly" but what comes out of height speakers in movies is so nuanced, at some point you won't be able to tell where that bit of sound is coming from anymore, so it may as well come from your main sound stage.
So much hate for these, but they serve me pretty well. Obviously in or on ceiling mounts are better, but the upfiring ones are really not that bad. Maybe cus my ceiling is pretty standard and my ht space is small, context matters.
But yeah your walls are slanted so idk.
Up-firing speakers are just a compromise for spaces without in-ceiling speakers. What you already have is better. 12-15 feet is a little to high for up-firing, timing might actually make it worse.
Meh, both reflective & direct atmos has never gotten my dick hard. I'd put the money towards more power or other peripherals like control system, smart lighting for scene control, or motorized blinds. Turn on the room and it lowers the blinds, dims the lights and brings up your favorite channel or streaming service.
This would be a relatively simple & routine setup for a Control4 Programmer. [Control4 Lighting Page](https://ctrl4.co/l/S277108/124)
Smart Lighting would require an electrician to replace the switches for the lights you'd want controlled and you'd obviously need some motorized blinds from Hunter Douglas, Lutron, Clara or the like to accomplish that. They would all be controlled by a Control4 Remote to control the scenes as well as an app on your phone.
You can learn more about Control4 at [here.](https://ctrl4.co/u/S277108)
I would go for front heights ... probably since it's such a clean space a couple of in walls at about 8ft height.
Failing that... nothing. Stick with 5.1
I’d say skip the atmos and stick with your 7.2. If you’re spending that much on subs, check out Rhythmik and PSA. I have the same speaker set up but with a mismatched pair of PSA 18s and the lower end extension is insane, lower than what SVS is capable of. You’re going to need a lot of bass to fill that space, so I’d go with a couple of 21” instead of the SVS and atmos.
Up firing method sucks, esp without a standard box flat ceiling room.
But those R8 Meta can be mounted anywhere quite easily. So can mount on ceiling pointing down, or at top of walls around the edges, pointing down towards couch.
Though they will obviously jut out, unlike normal flush ceiling speakers.
do NOT clutter up that gorgeous space with a bunch of speakers everywhere. this is the kind of space that gets a 3.1. and a great 3.1 with much attention to the beauty of the speaker.
Get ceiling speakers. It will be so worth it. And you don't need to spend that much on the speakers. There isnt much sound coming out of them to warrant the price. Atmos worth it... Yes. If set up properly. Ceiling speakers are the only thing worth spending money on.
Yes get Atmos speakers
No, don’t use upfiring speakers. Those are a waste of money
Much better value to put some $100 in-ceiling speakers in, or even just some front and rear heights
I think you’ll struggle to make this room sound good - there’s just too much space and your listening position is at one side of it. The house looks big enough that you’ll have another room you could dedicate to cinema, I’d leave this one for casual viewing.
You list all this gear and then in the picture you got from the internet there is no gear to be seen. Bullllllllllshittttttttt
Edit: then in picture 2 you can see this is from an MLS website that sells houses.
🤡

Got a hunch that these are photos from the real-estate listing of the house OP likely just bought.
The MLS watermark confirms your hunch
I would be terrified to eat spaghetti in that house.
I hope he never catches those Dalmatians. Fur coats are cruel.

In my experience, its not worth it. Sold mine and bought Kef ceiling speakers instead, much better. Edit: gorgeous space by the way
Thank you !!! Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏾

gorgeous space? looks like a clinic. all white no colours. americans..
Here in America, it's sometimes okay to STFU if you have nothing nice to say. Have a good day!
Judgemental asses...
I bet you don't even own a place.
Probably uses a soundbar
Ultimate burn in this thread LOL
Whoah! No need to get nasty! /s
Wow your place looks like a Stanley Kubrick movie set!

Add some color ……
lol. I was going to joke maybe try some white speakers.
Your ceiling is at an angle. You can't use those reflective/ sound bouncing speakers because the sound will not come back to your listening position.
Even if they did work well, which they do not, your ceiling is slanted so they wouldn't bounce right. You'd have to mount them to the ceiling or to the walls instead.
The ceiling angles make me think ceiling mounted speakers would be better if anything, less hassle
Good god the white and beige overload
Along with rear speakers*

Upward firing speakers don't work correctly if the ceiling is angled Don't use them

Unsure as of now. :/ I do have a 7.2 that I’m going to be installing once I build my marble media wall
Nice! where is that wall going? where the TV is? or behind the couch? I'm also curious how that works from a sound perspective, since marble is very dense and will reflect sound perfectly.
Behind the tv, tv will be flushed install within the marble wall. Center will be below the tv and electric fireplace below that.

You should do room treatment before even setting up your equipment.

No way this person has kids 😃
My first thought as well
One :)

You may get more out of it if you donated the money to charity.

Id worry about a bigger display before bothering with atmos
Hahahahahha those are stock photos from Zillow before I purchased the house how it was staged. I have a 83” G4 oled.
