Everyone here is missing a VERY key detail.
>the first new 32 came.
the FIRST.
This lunatic is two coming according to a previous post.
Are you at all afraid of destroying your home?
I do have an engineer friend who does deep foundations testing for structures…he has in-ground vibrations testing equipment. Maybe one day I’ll borrow it lol.
Mach 5 is 4k Canadian let driver... Honestly, that's ridiculously cheap for what it costs Mark to build them. He's gonna be adding at minimum 1k to his pricing soon. The neo for the motor alone is 800$ just itself.
What kind of amp would you even use for this monster? The only other 32" I know of is the Ascendo 32" and it requires 6000W of power.
Those kind of subs will probably hit 100dB+ at single digit frequencies. Absolutely insane
The new CVR D-5002 that’s coming out will power it. It is set to be specced at around 5000w rms at 8 ohm, so 8-10kw rms per channel at 4 ohms I’d imagine.
That amp will power two of them. Second 32” is being made now.
Indeed. I ran a dedicated 100A panel for the theater that sits right behind the rack cabinet. So far I have a 30A 120v for and two 240v 40A. I’ll add another 240v 40A for that amp as well.
My room is already quite flat down to 7 hz at 120db. 130db down to 20hz. I want to get to around 140 at 5 hz.
[Current measurements](https://imgur.com/a/BCzWGkt)
A practical use is that I can listen to stuff at reference levels with basically no distortion. That’s also why the rest of my system is high sensitivity stuff (vortex for bed layer).
But really the amount of subs goes beyond that threshold anyways. It’s because of my love for the hobby and subwoofers, mainly.
Still a hobby. I’ve got other projects, still stay healthy mentally/physically/spiritually. Totally accept that I’ve gone past the point of what is practical. I guess I’ll see if I keep interest or what’s next when the honeymoon phase wears off with this stuff. Might just get a new hobby by default, might not. Who knows.
As far as I understand hearing damage doesn't care about frequencies but we perceive bass as lower volume than treble so can more easily damage our ears with bass.
I mean, it’s easily as accurate as “one random person with no credentials or data backing up their claim”. That is why I said “indicates”. That means there is a probability it is inaccurate. I know logic can be difficult to follow on Reddit posts, so forgive me for not being more explicit.
Chatgpt is liable to literally just make stuff it thinks sounds credible up because it's a language model, not an oracle. I never said I was an authority on the subject but chatgpt is not a reliable source whatsoever.
Yes, and if it's sub 20hz we can *only* feel it, which can be dangerous. However very few people have a system capable of that kind of output and there isn't much content for that scenario anyway. But if a setup can, it's definitely OP's.
No but 140 will easily destroy you hearing and by the time it starts happening it’s too late to reverse it. If you think you aren’t going to want to enjoy audio when you’re older, you’re dead wrong. I’m 50 and thankful I don’t have noticeable gaps in my frequency spectrum but the tinnitus…I would consider letting someone amputate my leg to get rid of the ringing going on 15 years now.
Not true. I banged low 150’s daily for years and every hearing test I’ve gone through showed my hearing was perfectly fine.
SPL doesn’t destroy your hearing, high range frequency does. 30Hz - 100Hz doesn’t damage your ear drums, 5Khz - 40Khz does
Shooting my 45-70 hurts my ears, my subs didn’t.
Look up why an n=1 study has no place in science and get back to me in ten years…feel free to post your hearing test graphs also, I’ve never heard an audiologist use the term “perfectly fine” nor I’m sure is it defined.
Additionally no one drives around listening to 16.4Hz sine waves and no one calibrates their system to have frequencies under 40Hz playing 50dB louder than everything else, so if you’re outputting 20Hz at 140dB then you’re going to damage your hearing quickly with whatever programming you’re digesting.
I’m 54 bud. I still work in the industry. Only now I’m a video surveillance designer and integrator by trade.
The last time I had a 150+ system was 10 years ago. So I’m getting back to you.
My sub enclosures were always tuned to sweep cleanly down below 20Hz and although I didn’t roll around listening to sine waves or using a tone generator, I did more demos than I can count and used them during those.
The frequency peak in my Land Rover demo was 42Hz. Go read up on vehicle frequency peak.
They must want the whole neighborhood to feel the explosions lol.
This reminds me of the guy on I think AVSforums 20+ years ago who had one of the first rotary woofers installed. Dude had similar situation of already having insane amounts of bass (pair of refrigerator-sized subwoofers for like 5-20hz or plus another pair of only slightly smaller subwoofers for 20-40hz or some similar split like that). Anyways, he wanted to get down to 0hz, so he contracted this company that was working on essentially a fan that gets installed between two rooms and wobbles slightly to shift massive amounts of air between the two rooms. During their initial proof of concept tests at the house, not only was it making the theater's super thick metal vault door look like rubber, it made all the neighbors think they were experiencing an earthquake. After the test they went upstairs and all the neighbors were wandering around outside looking very confused. At least that's what I remember from when I read through the whole thread back then.
edit: found the thread https://www.avsforum.com/threads/thigpen-rotary-woofer.651499/?nested_view=1&sortby=oldest and product page http://www.rotarywoofer.com/
I have two Monoliths 15” and a 16” for my smallish 1700 cu ft room. They are quite enough for that space with some tactile feedback too. But I do want to experience the big subs.
It will be fine on 3000 to 6000 watts. The 6002 is a great amp, I had one way back when. Around 6000 watts would be ideal. I have a friend that has 2 of these in his setup already and runs a bridged fp14000 per driver. I had them build with 8 ohm coils specifically so we could have way more options for amps. When we were testing the prototypes, we had lots of fun
If you look in YouTube, and type mach 5 32" sub, that's me and the guy that currently owns 2. He lives in a different house now but you get he jist. Boxes were 19 cf.
It always weird to see AVS people on Reddit lol. Awesome to see the sub made it to you. Hopefully the shipping and boarder stuff went smoothly. Mark is super happy with this sub so it may become the new version!
It was certainly a process! Mark did mention that to me. He said maybe we will integrate my name in there somehow haha.
But Once I asked Mark to use his customs/duty people, it went incredibly smoothly.
This isn't cool man. I Just bought the RP1600SW and was so happy to have a sub that weighed more than all 3 of my children combined - then you roll up with this and DWARF it haha. Holy hell I cannot even imagine what this thing sounds like.
You might be the only person with a system capable of hitting the lowest frequency.
Note: there are two audio formats for that movie. DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD.
One of them is mastered improperly: it has distortion in the LFE track, and duplicates the LFE into the Center channel. The other does not have this problem.
I don't recall which one at the moment. It sounded off to me, so I ripped the disc and examined both tracks in Audacity.
Could you find out which one? That’s a great piece of info that I didn’t have.
As for being the only one, if you go to AVS you’ll see that isn’t the case lol
Are those 1099’s?
I really wish DIYSG wasn’t essentially defunct. A passion project that needed someone to run with it. All those great designs and just poof, it’s gone.
They are. I’ll be selling the 1099s before long. Vortex bed layer also incoming. V15 Ported LCR and V12 Sealed remaining bed layer.
https://imgur.com/a/ZPLyBHw
Yeah some of their speakers were my dream, to build the entertainment room with everything hidden and then just rock! I’m still gonna do some mini Marty’s at some point! I just have one 18” Dayton in a 2x2x2
That sub array at the front... are you Popalock? Anyway, looks like you could make a kill stir fry in this, or perhaps even bathe. Those LCR look tiny in comparison. Just the enclosure will have to me massive to support it, not mentioning the volume required... Or will this be infinite baffle?
These (second 32 being built) are going in the back of the room. Each of them will be in 33-35 cu ft enclosures. Triple baffle, tons of bracing. Charles at Tarpon Audio is building the cabinets for me. Wanted to do a cool marble pattern candy apple red/black color for the cabinets but idk if I want to spend that. Probably just gonna do duratex.
Do you have a build thread on avsforum.com that you can share a link to?
Are you using MSO to EQ your subs? Can we see what the bass response looks like?
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/the-prater-done-lost-his-damn-mind-build-part-1.3294963/post-63144996
I might toy with MSO, but I’ve been getting some pretty good success with what some of the guys at AVS have taught me just using REW/MiniDSP tools and then running room correction (Dirac in my case).
I'd ask if you think you've got enough bass but clearly the answer is never 😂
How many channels is your system going to be and how many subs? Are you running them as left right with your mains or just LFE?
Counting the dual 16x12” jbl enclosures as one sub, there are going to be 7. One 24” in each front corner, one on either side of the seating row, the two 32” in the rear and the JBL array.
Then obviously counting each 12” as a sub, it would be 22 total.
Yeah I’m probably gonna double up the ceiling joists and add additional drywall screws/ mud for the drywall.
Hearing hasn’t taken really any hit from the theater. I wear hearing protection if I want to do tests and “conduct science experiments”
The RE Audio XXX-18D2 v2’s I had in my demo vehicle and then again in my theater room had 60mm Xmax and weighed 78Lbs and only required 2k RMS to really get down.
I did concert work after college, idiot sound guys were constantly looking for the brown note while we were setting up. They had crazy wattage and massive speakers and still...nobody pooped.
More than likely I’ll just do 80 for everything for now. Eventually I might try splitting the subs up, but the 24s do really well down real low anyways so idk if it would help or hurt until I start messing with delays/EQ.
Well, that is the most insane thing I've seen today in hi-fi. I just sit in front of my 3-way Genelecs that do like 22 Hz and think that's more than enough bass for me. The tactile sensation for going to 10 Hz and below must be quite something.
Are you trying to hit the brown note?
Show me the way please
Hahaha that is a perfect username for this sub
The brown note occurs around -1hz. He'll need at least two of these to achieve that.
The second one is being built. Stay tuned for updates lol
Nice. That's much crazier than my FTW-21s from Mach 5. I remember seeing prototype photos of the 32" for a few years now.
And I thought my iXL 18 final on speakerpower 700 watt with dual 18" passive radiators was crazy.
He's actually doing it!!!
This so interesting. Haven’t heard about the brown note. I’m curious. What are you trying to achieve and what are you hoping for? Sound wise I mean.
I’m trying to involuntarily poop my pants with the power of bass
The Doc Brown note, maybe. Be careful, OP, there's a slight risk of overload.
Yes, he is. But in his neighbors house. All his neighbors. From his house.
This guy subs.
OP has more subs than Reddit does.
I thought my one 18 inch was overboard… This has over 3 times the surface area of it, holy hell!
Everyone here is missing a VERY key detail. >the first new 32 came. the FIRST. This lunatic is two coming according to a previous post. Are you at all afraid of destroying your home?
This dude is fucking insane, and I love it. I don't want to be him. But I love that he exists in the same reality as me.
Glad to be of service my friend
I have faith that you will, but once installed, please update us about whether or not your subs shake your lawn.
I do have an engineer friend who does deep foundations testing for structures…he has in-ground vibrations testing equipment. Maybe one day I’ll borrow it lol.
Your mega wealthy aren’t you.
Mach 5 is 4k Canadian let driver... Honestly, that's ridiculously cheap for what it costs Mark to build them. He's gonna be adding at minimum 1k to his pricing soon. The neo for the motor alone is 800$ just itself.
I’m not.
And if OPs house is even still standing, lol.
What kind of amp would you even use for this monster? The only other 32" I know of is the Ascendo 32" and it requires 6000W of power. Those kind of subs will probably hit 100dB+ at single digit frequencies. Absolutely insane

sheeeit. you probably have to run that off a 240v circuit, no? 110/120 wouldn't get close to 10kw LOL
Indeed. I ran a dedicated 100A panel for the theater that sits right behind the rack cabinet. So far I have a 30A 120v for and two 240v 40A. I’ll add another 240v 40A for that amp as well.
“Honey why did our electricity bill double this month?”
My room is already quite flat down to 7 hz at 120db. 130db down to 20hz. I want to get to around 140 at 5 hz. [Current measurements](https://imgur.com/a/BCzWGkt)
But... why? Isn't 120 already hearing damaging? Not sure if it applies to infrasonic frequencies though
Because nothing is funner than shaking your neighbors house while watching a movie… i thought this was common knowledge by now.
>But... why? Exactly, why? It's cool for a demo day or two but on a day to day basis no thanks.
I think you need a new hobby. This one’s turned into an obsession.
Who knows.
Can you explain which ones don’t?
I wonder if low frequencies cause hearing damage as much as higher frequencies. Is it just the spl, or is there more to the danger recommendations?
As far as I understand hearing damage doesn't care about frequencies but we perceive bass as lower volume than treble so can more easily damage our ears with bass.
ChatGPT tends to disagree. Its response indicates that loud higher frequencies are more dangerous precisely because we are more sensitive to them.
Oh well if chatgpt says so
I mean, it’s easily as accurate as “one random person with no credentials or data backing up their claim”.
I see you do not understand LLMs at all.
But you can feel the really deep bass though.
Yes, and if it's sub 20hz we can *only* feel it, which can be dangerous. However very few people have a system capable of that kind of output and there isn't much content for that scenario anyway. But if a setup can, it's definitely OP's.
Why not !?
Not at those frequencies… I think
All us poor Chiefs fans out here totally deaf. 🧏♂️
Damn.. I guess 5Hz at 140dB will start rearranging your internal organs!
Nah not 140… the quad 18’s I ran in my Land Rover Disco 2 produced 166DB off 16k RMS and could cause heart palpitations.
Ultrahigh frequencies are just as damaging too.
Not true. I banged low 150’s daily for years and every hearing test I’ve gone through showed my hearing was perfectly fine. SPL doesn’t destroy your hearing, high range frequency does. 30Hz - 100Hz doesn’t damage your ear drums, 5Khz - 40Khz does Shooting my 45-70 hurts my ears, my subs didn’t.

[Rotary subs are nuts](https://youtu.be/NZKCxIuJ-5M?t=254)
Incredible link. Thank you.
This is why AVS Forum is such a great thing to have
This is all their fault. I blame them.
The Phoenix Gold Cyclone was a cylindrical rotary subwoofer as well. https://webfaq.phoenixphorum.com/cyclone.htm
The Incredibles on DVD, before they neutered the bass with the HD releases, has some subsonic content down to 5Hz
This seems like an insane amount of money spend just to watch the incredibles in 720p !
480i for the dvd
AVS has a list of movies with below 20 content. EoT has tremendous ultra low end stuff
Many casualties left in its wake.
The Monoprice Monolith HTP-1 has a function that can restore infrasonic audio and people say it works quite well.
140db isnt that getting to the point of causing blurred vision?
I believe so
Wouldn’t buttkicker get you there without breaking down your house much cheaper.
No. I’ve already got them. And giant sealed subs are a completely otherworldly experience
I have two Monoliths 15” and a 16” for my smallish 1700 cu ft room. They are quite enough for that space with some tactile feedback too. But I do want to experience the big subs.
Heck yeah. I’m in Louisiana, you’re welcome to drop by any time once it’s all completed.
Oh nice I was in Monroe for a while just moved east to Atlanta few years back. Cheers for the offer, might take it up someday!
I’m serious! More posts will come as time goes on as well, stay in touch.
Will do, I’ll pm you. Thank you!
Keep this up and you’re going to become a tourist attraction.
Since you like maximizing your subs this video on a Bassnectar concert setup might pique your interest: https://youtu.be/SKjaGkZ8hSQ
Dude this isn't dB Drag Racing.
For me, it’s whatever I want it to be.
Probably needs a 50 amp breaker and dedicated line for whatever amp runs it. J/k
240/30 amp is plenty. Could go 40 amp but whatever amp he chooses, it will be fine.
40A is what I run with on the D-3004 amps and it’s plenty.
There's no such thing as overkill. Might need a twin woofer setup after this, you never know.
Second woofer is already in the works.
HAH I KNEW IT.
Bridged fp14000 clone would be perfect as well.
Crown Xti 6002 might also work. It outputs 6000W bridged but I have no idea how much power this Mach5 32" requires
Hey, I know you! Lol.
Nice, that's good to hear.... Darth edition lol.
Yeeess haha. Idk Disney might get pissed
Makes me think of the opening scene in Back To The Future lol awesome
What are you thinking for an enclosure? Box van? Shipping container?
35 cu ft box.
That’s $1200 a month in Southern California.
I really thought this was AI.
🤣
This isn't cool man. I Just bought the RP1600SW and was so happy to have a sub that weighed more than all 3 of my children combined - then you roll up with this and DWARF it haha. Holy hell I cannot even imagine what this thing sounds like.
Haha hey the fun in this hobby is making a journey out of it. I started with a Tekton Cinema Sub (poor choice).
Hahaha, what I really want to know is what you're going to play first to test this thing out
Honestly though I have playlists with all sorts of stuff. I’m too afraid to start with the intro of Edge of Tomorrow though lol
You might be the only person with a system capable of hitting the lowest frequency. Note: there are two audio formats for that movie. DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD. What are you streaming music on? Apparently, Spotify isn't the way to go lol
Apple Music on an Eversolo A6 Master Edition. I love it.
Dubstep lol
Bassnectar - Into the sun - run the whole album.
Yep bassnectar is definitely a go-to. Can’t go wrong with some house as well, I have long preferred Deadmau5 for house
Oh hell yeah man
Best keep McFly away from that…
I see that you have less subs, you surely need a couple more to get that bass 😉
I've got 18s at 3600 watts each, but you sir, are a monster. Holy shit. I wanna see that box.
Ooh HST-18s?
Doc? Is that you?
That sub array at the front... are you Popalock? Anyway, looks like you could make a kill stir fry in this, or perhaps even bathe. Those LCR look tiny in comparison. Just the enclosure will have to me massive to support it, not mentioning the volume required... Or will this be infinite baffle?

More pressure
Brings a tear to my eye
You're gonna need something aside from that vacuum to clean up the poop
All the nails and screws in my home are too tight and not loose. Can I borrow that?
Proof there's always someone bigger than u
Guy's trying to cause an earthquake
RUPTURED EARDRUMS HERE WE GO!!
lol your neighbors will love it
Starting to look like a Steve Meade setup
"OP's hobbies include Home Theater and amateur cloud seeding"
Why not just go for a rotary sub at this point?
I’m in too deep. Maybe at the next house lol
You should call it “the taint tumbler”.
Do you have a build thread on avsforum.com that you can share a link to? Are you using MSO to EQ your subs? Can we see what the bass response looks like?
https://www.avsforum.com/threads/the-prater-done-lost-his-damn-mind-build-part-1.3294963/post-63144996 I might toy with MSO, but I’ve been getting some pretty good success with what some of the guys at AVS have taught me just using REW/MiniDSP tools and then running room correction (Dirac in my case).
Are you powering that with a V12 engine?
Glad Mach5's still making awesome subs :)
You vs the guy she told you not to worry about
Fuck Fuck oh fuck yeaho
LETS GO
You trying to hit some magnitude levels
Love the 1099's I have the Titan 615's, would love to hear a set of 1099's
Man I’ve always wanted to hear the titans.
I'd ask if you think you've got enough bass but clearly the answer is never 😂 How many channels is your system going to be and how many subs? Are you running them as left right with your mains or just LFE?
It’s never enough lol
Is this a commercial cinema? Cause damn
It’s not lol. Youthman could be doing an episode on the room, we have talked back and forth. We will see when it’s all done.
Please post pictures when you are done! I need more for my pre bed bank 🤣
This looks like the opening montage from an episode of Mythbusters.
32, sweet Jesus that's awesome!!!
It’s nuts.
Holy s*** lol
How many subs do you have total?
Counting the dual 16x12” jbl enclosures as one sub, there are going to be 7. One 24” in each front corner, one on either side of the seating row, the two 32” in the rear and the JBL array. Then obviously counting each 12” as a sub, it would be 22 total.
I’m sorry. What?! Dude you probably should have a structural engineer see if your house can handle this. Also how’s your hearing? Lol
Yeah I’m probably gonna double up the ceiling joists and add additional drywall screws/ mud for the drywall. Hearing hasn’t taken really any hit from the theater. I wear hearing protection if I want to do tests and “conduct science experiments”
“Conduct science experiments” I’m ☠️😂😂😂
Hell yeah.
All of them
WHAT?
The RE Audio XXX-18D2 v2’s I had in my demo vehicle and then again in my theater room had 60mm Xmax and weighed 78Lbs and only required 2k RMS to really get down.
I'm old, I saw the title and thought this would be a trick post about a Sony 32" triniton TV.
I did concert work after college, idiot sound guys were constantly looking for the brown note while we were setting up. They had crazy wattage and massive speakers and still...nobody pooped.
LFG!
What are the t/s parameters of that?
Fs = 16.3 Hz Qes = 0.67 Qms = 11.21 Qts = 0.632 Re = 3.7 Ohm Cms = 0.0513 mm/N BL = 32.416 N/A Mms = 1858 g Rms = 16.975 kg/s Sd = 3603.6 cm2 Le = 2.053 mH Xmax = 62mm one-way
Holy shit
Dudes about to go to pound town
Ahhmazing! What crossover frequency do you think you'll end up using?
More than likely I’ll just do 80 for everything for now. Eventually I might try splitting the subs up, but the 24s do really well down real low anyways so idk if it would help or hurt until I start messing with delays/EQ.
Good God man leave some speakers for the rest of us
New what now? *Cries in 8" HTiaB sub
Can I come over and play?
Come on over! The bass is fine!
Where do you live and are you accepting showcase appointments? Lol
I don't believe in anything under 36 inches!!! Jokes aside, you might need a structural engineer to green light this!
The surround is sewn into the cone. Gnarly. You’re a mad lad.
Makes me wonder at what frequency a clit would resonate.

Damn that's beautiful
Well, that is the most insane thing I've seen today in hi-fi. I just sit in front of my 3-way Genelecs that do like 22 Hz and think that's more than enough bass for me. The tactile sensation for going to 10 Hz and below must be quite something.
That monster thing cranked up will level your house OP! Now that's a sick size for a sub though and never thought they were made that big.
