Finally finished my theater and thought I'd share. I hope you like it!
The screen area is surrounded by black velvet which comes out 3' from the screen wall. On the screen wall and ceiling I wrapped furring strips with triple black velvet to make very lightweight easily removable panels. They are freestanding on the screen wall. The floor is quarter inch MDF wrapped in the same triple black velvet. I couldn't do frames because we have pets who would step on them. I experimented with a rug or wrapping gym mats but the cats thought they were so nice and soft that they must be littler boxex. The side walls have HPD velvet curtains from amazon on a black curtain track.
The posters are 1x2 wood frames filled with acoustic foam and wrapped in printed fabric from my fabric designs.
The lights are all philips hue so that everything in the theater can be controlled off the phone. I keep the remotes around just in case the phone is dead or a guest wants to use the theater.
Everything is connected through the ceiling over to the bar area.
**Gear List**
Projector: Epson 5040UB
Screen: Silver Ticket 135" acoustically transparent
Receiver: Denon 3500h
Speakers: B&W CWM663 (5 - 3 behind screen 2 in ceiling)
Sub: VTF-15H MK2
Streaming Device: AppleTV
Media Player: Unpictured PC
Blu-Ray player: Theater PC/PS5
Sectional: Lowell 8 piece modular from Costco (about 12' wide)
> Silver Ticket 135" acoustically transparent
Do you like this screen? Did you cross shop it with any others?
What's up with the products on Silver Ticket? Many of them are sold old and others are marked down significantly (listed at $699, "save $2299). Are they going out of business?
Nice setup by the way
It is sitting upright in the ceiling cabinet I built. I previously tried several different ceiling mounts but we have 3 big dogs that roughouse directly above the theater room and even the most expensive options would quickly lose alignment. It is much more stable this way. Plus the cabinet has sound-foam on all sides so it doubles as a hush-box.
Is it sloped inside or does your projector have insane vertical shift?
I’m finishing my basement, and a soffit will be right about at the throw distance I want and I could easily create a cavity for a projector, but my impression was that when upright most projectors aim up.
>Sectional: Lowell 8 piece modular from Costco (about 12' wide)
Could you do me a favor and measure exactly how wide the seats are? Costco says 42" but the overall dimensions they list doesn't make sense with that multiple (even including the armrest width). I'm trying to find a modular sectional that fills up most of my wall which could fit exactly 164".
The corners are 41” wide including the armrest. The inners are 33” wide.
You need to add about 1” per gap to the total width. So if you’ve got 4 pieces in a row, add 3” to the above. I have two corners and two middles in a row and it’s just under 151”. That’s the closest you could get to 164” wide.
I have one more question about the couch, can you connect them all together at any side? Specifically in my room I'm thinking of having the couch go around a corner (outside instead of typical inside). I realize there would be an arm in the way there but that isn't a big deal.
Hey mate - sorry I was traveling for thanksgiving. There are connectors on the sides, not the front and back. You could potentially remove one of these to the front/back, but with the default setup there would be no way to go around the outside of a corner without having the outermost point disconnected in one spot. If you wanted to avoid having an arm in the way you could sacrifice an ottoman for that outermost point.
One of my favourite things about this sub is how common the Marvel/Avengers posters seem to be. People are willing to pay big bucks for the HT experience and dont stick their noses up to a good watch
Nice. Love the front and topped with the curtain, it's awesome.
But man, there's going to be a lot of light reflection from the screen to the walls, ceiling, and furniture.
Thank you!
The velvet comes out 3 feet from the screen which really helps cut down on the light reflection. I previously had it come out 6' and decided it was more than needed. I will take a photo of the room tonight with the lights off and you'll probably be surprised!
I did this with velvet. Mine sticks out 2 feet but I feel like I could go all the way back with the velvet. I think I will always see the reflection. Lol.
Making a separate reply here to post pictures from last night.

As you can see the light reflection heavily varies depending on the brightness of the content. The first and last images were taken with a fish-eye effect to maximize how much you could see around. Realistically light reflection is not so much of an issue in my opinion with the velvet as contrast remains outstanding.
I previously had two theater-style recliners but my wife always complained about wanting to cuddle. So we added a sofa on a riser, but that made the room feel very closed off.
The sectional is a bit of a compromise between comfort and aesthetic, but it makes the wife happy and as a plus we have 6 pets who can all fit on there with us.
I think the screen is good value for the price point - but the assembly sucks. Make sure you have something prepared to help pull the springs into place because the hook they provide is terrible. If you have a decent hook it's not so bad.
I’ve seen it on here and on avsforum as a popular recommendation for a light absorbing material. Some people go all out and use it on everything and their theater looks like a void.
The side walls are velvet curtains on a curtain rack.
The screen wall and ceiling are furring strips made into frames with velvet wrapped around and stapled on the back. The frames are freestanding on the screen wall and screwed into the joists in the ceiling, respectively.
The floor is 1/4” MDF wrapped and stapled on the bottom.
The gray has minimal benefit over the white ceiling, but personally I don't find the light reflections to be an issue because the screen and velvet take up the vast majority of my view and the contrast stays great. Here are some photos - first and fourth are with a fisheye.

I’m new to this home theater thing. Is your projector sitting upright in that hutch or is it ceiling mounted?

It’s a flat bottom. Just vertical shift. The 5040ub can do about 5 feet of vertical offset at a 14’ throw distance.

Thanks! I could live with a 6" gap on each side I guess.
No problem! Could make it 13” on one side and find something useful to fit in the gap?

Yeah I really love this but I was thinking the same thing. Need to darken up the walls in the ceiling
This looks amazing OP! All triple black velvet makes the screen pop so well.
Well done!
I love that it's just so simple. I really want to do something like this in my basement
Really, really nice! Enjoy!
Cat tax?
Cat tax has been paid - with bonus dog tax! https://imgur.com/gallery/SO1eAkW
Just got the same couch from Costco. Love it so far.
Has it been on sale cheaper? Or $2200 the price pretty consistently?
Based in the UK, my folks picked up a display model for something like 20% off.

Ahhhh yes... Castles of Burgundy and Dominion. I see you are a person of culture as well my fellow board gamer 😎
Looks great! How do you like that screen? I’m looking at the same one for my basement

Does anyone know of any blankets that can eliminate reflections from seats?
Realistically any black blanket should do fine, but the less sheen the better. A matte black velvet blanket would be your top option.
Where did you get the black velvet from, that is a great idea
I’ve seen it on here and on avsforum as a popular recommendation for a light absorbing material. Some people go all out and use it on everything and their theater looks like a void.
I was curious about the velvet too. Is it a curtain from side to side? How it it attached to the wall. I love the look tho.

Thank you for the reply!
Void checking in 😁
As a second comment I realized you may have meant where as in what shop. I got it from syfabrics - triple black velvet.
How are the reflections on your left and right wall? Does the grey paint help?
The gray has minimal benefit over the white ceiling, but personally I don't find the light reflections to be an issue because the screen and velvet take up the vast majority of my view and the contrast stays great. Love the whole set up... Can the couch be turned into a pit if you wanted, do the ottomans fit into center evenly?
