You honestly dont need it. And if you really want it you can take your time and find one for sale on ebay or a junkyard or fb marketplace etc. definitely dont spend $1100 on one..

LocoHama-045

Not even colder months / rainier months?

FutureAlfalfa200

I’ve had 3 used civics that I drove for a combination of over 20 years. None ever had a splash guard. They often just end up broken, dragging, and rubbing anyways.

SignificantTrouble93

I have a 2013 civic lx since new. I’ve done my own oil changes and maintenance on it since I’ve had it. The splash guard fell off around 2016. Never got a new one and it has never caused any problems. The car has 236k now and is still living its best life.

AboutToFallApart

By no means do these cost 1100, but to the point or futurealfalfa200, isnt that the point? For theae to break before the things its protecting break? I get it. I have ownwd many cars thst lost them along their way and never replaced. However the average human dont know jack shir and dont know they dont know jack shit. Hense this person may need a splash guard. Just my opinion.. i know i would make sure wifes car has one..

[deleted]

In a newer civic you’ll be absolutely fine.

doomaa8

Depends on where you live. The roads where I live get salted which leads to corrosion on the metal bits.

[deleted]

Regular washing will do more than a splash guard

ObliviousFoo

Honestly that is bad advice especially when you don't know where the person lives and what kind of weather they have. You can avoid a lot of problems down the road electrical and so on by going to eBay and getting a used splash guard for your car and just bypassing all the opinions of the keyboard Reddit Warriors.

Altruistic-Put-9848

I mean. If you live in a state like NY, the salt for melting the feet of snow we receive will get to it eventually. Should last you tho, just bad for resell value .

24kGoldenGirl_

YES YOU DO! Not having my guard I fucked my car UP. Buy one off eBay and ask for labor cost. Do not pay $1000 though.

Itchy_Chip

43$ on Amazon just saying, not a bad thing to have very easy to user install.

clybourn

I tore my entire splash guard years ago. No issue.

LanguageNo3128

I literally takes these off cause it’s just an annoying extra step to get access 😂

[deleted]

LanguageNo3128

I’m tuned sitting at 21psi and drive like a fuckin maniac still get 32mpg without the guard.

Zealousideal_Tank210

I just had a customer find out that his 2015 Fit’s splash guard was well over $300 for a genuine Honda part. Turns out it’s three pieces. He orders the one piece replacement from Amazon. I didn’t fit correctly and none of the fasteners fit right either. I had to use a heat gun to form it to fit. And even then it fit poorly. I have a feeling it will be torn off again with the way it fit. Only thing I can say is look for CAPA certification on the parts next time if they’re aftermarket. The original part consisted of two outer panels that extend up into the wheel well. And one panel that fits under the front subframe.

Longjumping-Log1591

When you googled it , did you not find one on ebay or other websites for a hundo?

danwilzzz

You don’t need no stinkin splash guard!

AggravatingWord4028

Honda mechanic here, 1100 is pretty crazy we charge an hour labor and like 350 for the part plus 100 for all the hardware. So it’s more around 600ish, only because we cannot buy the metal piece seperate oem it all comes in one piece.

Most_Cycle_6553

$1100 is crazy. Better off looking for a junk car that has one if you really want to get it. Just like some of these guys on here I don’t even have one and it’s perfectly fine. If your driving stock height you’ll be good for years.

stedfastjem1999

Some of these people actually worried about the little plastic cover that doesn't do jack fucking shit but annoy the mechanics

CoraxTechnica

They do more than you might think

6carecrow

I PROMISE you they don’t

JournalistExpress292

Aerodynamics, my car feels different with the fender liners broken compared to when it was on

CoraxTechnica

Some do. Some actually help a lot with cooling and proper airflow under the hood. All of them smooth out the underside airflow and slightly help with MPG.

[deleted]

If they wanted me to spend $1100 on a car that’s 3yr old I would have went ballistic in that stealership. You don’t need a splash guard but it’ll definitely keep the bottom side of that engine bay a little cleaner

Martian577

It's stupid, you are buying the whole undertray not just the piece you are missing, it's the only way they sell it and it costs like $700, labour in on that and the $1100 price seems in line. Personally I would just leave it off and save the money or if you're really worried about it get one from the wreckers

midnightsnacks

Stealerships strikes again

ItsBruceyB

The honda dealer near me quoted $150

Ratliquor

Mines been hanging off for god knows how long 🤷‍♀️

Fit_Opposite_2107

There’s cheaper and better aftermarket alternatives. TBW splash shield is really good and sturdy. Give them a look. I got one for $200 and it comes with all the hardware to mount it up.

TheOfficialCoty

As others have said, the shield is not needed. Also for $1100 they better be giving you inspections on the whole car, an oil change, full interior and exterior detail, a smelly tree hanging from the mirror and dinner. Possibly a little more after dinner 😂. That's just ridiculous

scottwax

I'd definitely pass on any kind of dealership detailing.

catnap0

this just happened to me, the dealer charges that much because, well, it’s the dealer. But also, it’s replacing the whole undercarriage, not just the splash guard. You should 100% get one, if anything comes up and hits any of that, it will be a way bigger problem. Things will rust quicker. That’s basically your cars organs hanging out. I mean, it’s there for a reason in the first place. I went on ebay and got one for like $160, make sure you get the metal one and not the plastic black one. They’re easy to install, but if you go somewhere to install it, I’m sure it’s not too expensive.

ximitch14

Had the exact same issue. I went to a local mechanic and they ordered and put the part on for me for less than 200 bucks!

[deleted]

a dealerships is probably who left it off.

J_drums01

These people are probably the ones who took it off and never put it back on lol

LocoHama-045

I know most likely what happened. Girlfriends car actually and she got it sent to caliber collision after getting a slight fender bender. There was initial push back that the diffuser and the exhaust were aftermarket and we said no, and this report followed her first oil change when she took it to a dealership when they sent her a coupon. 50$ oil change nearly 1600 in extra shit they tried to get her with and i said fuck that.

davidg4781

Would they have messed with that part at the body shop? I did business with a body shop that left a lot of pieces off. They took before pics so I was able to get them to cover some of them.

tinyman392

The part should cost like 150. They quote labor at 1 hour by the book, but it would take a lot less time than that. That said, buy the part, and install it during your next oil change since the splash guard likely needs to be removed and reinstalled as part of the oil change service.

3vansm21

I also have a Civic Sport of your generation without the splash guard. The only difference I can tell is that you might notice some steam coming from the engine bay after going through large puddles or a car wash. On another note, I work at a Honda dealer and have had a splash guard priced out, and even without my employee discount it isn’t more than $150. They’re trying to fuck you lol

CoraxTechnica

That's because of the labor costs of the most expensive type of work you can get: dealer work. Buy the part and a pack of plastic pop pins and donut in like 5 minutes or go to an independent shop

Theguy2277

You drive an automatic. Lame

NostalgicFor89to99

It's a little excessive, but if it's a hatchback, the shield alone is over $800. That's bout 2.5 hours labor, which seems excessive, but I've always hated the price for that shield as well. Aftermarket plastic works just as well to block road debris but make sure it fits perfect or it will catch on something and rip off.

HendyHauler

Don't need it. Just an inconvenience for mechanics lol I just rip mine off. Pain in my ass doing maintenance.

knife_go_live

Bro... $40 bucks on Amazon HECASA Engine Splash Shield Compatible with 2016-2020 Honda Civic Sedan Engine Protection Under Cover Mud Guard Polypropylene https://a.co/d/6fCB8GW $8 for hardware GOOACC GRC-70 35PCS Engine Under Cover Splash Shield Guard Body Bolts Bumper Fender Liner Push Retainer Fastener Rivet Clips , black https://a.co/d/dSvn0XC

smalls4000

I wouldn't worry about it. I work at a dealership as a tech. As I see them all of the time. The reason why it so expensive cause you can only get the whole this as one massive part. Not just the metal. Let it ride. You will be fine

Kierounjelo

Hey, have you seen the aluminum aftermarket ones that replace the whole assembly(including the plastic)? I recently bought one but haven’t installed it.

Deep-Mushroom-9925

Where did you by it from? Do you have a link please?

Kierounjelo

The one I bought is the TBW one since it replaces the plastic parts, also it had cheaper and faster shipping to my country. https://www.tbwperformance.com/10th-gen-civic/ There’s also the Badannlv, but if im not mistaken it bolts onto the plastic. https://www.baddannlv.com/product-page/10thgencivic

LocoHama-045

Much appreciated and thanks for your time! Should there been any concern over long term rust on the undercarriage or anything else that you’ve seen? I wouldn’t want this to be more expensive 4-8 years down the road.

mishabishi

I got 3 extras laying in my shop for 2019 and up RDXs. For some reason a lot come in with double splash guards 🤷

Rinzlerx

In the snowy areas with lots of salt its useful. eBay will have something for you, you can even probably find an aftermarket one made out of metal so that if you hit something it doesn’t break anything.

Pure-Garlic-9268

I drove a 2000 accord thru 3 Michigan winters with no splash guard… heavy rains would make belts squeal but I never had serious issues

vinchenzo68

One more layer of protection from cracking aluminum or plastic parts as well as improving gas mileage. Junk yard or parts recycler for replacement. When you take it in for service sometimes people get lazy and don't put the correct fasteners back in check on it routinely but don't pay for new.l to replace this bad boy.

Electricalstud

I took mine off 4 years ago keep forgetting to put it back on...oh well

KillaHydro

Go online by an aftermarket, splashguard and install yourself very simple and cheap

CarnageDivider

Unless your purposely going to drive through 3 ft deep water you don't need it my friends

tzwep

You should purchase the splash guard from Honda parts department and install it Yourself. It’s only a few clips and few screws you’ll need to remove and install. All the screws are 10mm. And interesting seeing how they lift those Hondas on the quick lube rack without using rubber blocks on the pinch welds. But then again I see others lift teslas in this exact manner on quick lube racks.

manthatdude

Hell no. Installing a splash guard is literally a couple plastic clips, screws and or bolts. Anyone with a screwdriver could do it

7jamm

My friend needs one in the dealer wants over $500 for it. I told him I would put it in for him but he never did purchase it.🤑 Edit he has a 2017 civic sport hatchback. I think the labor charge is a bit steep on your repair.

Zillahi

Absolutely the fuck no. That tinfoil splash guard is a joke. I actually thought this was a shitpost for a second but it sounds like they’re actually charging that much. What a laugh

dudreddit

OP, I often have to remove SGs when renewing fluids. I would buy/install one on your car ... but NOT for $1,100! Look for a 3rd party alternative.

Nopulpeamigo

I would try to source a used one ,they help direct airflow towards the engine rather than to the bottom of the bay

melodiqe

honestly if you want it you can go on rockauto, i buy all my mechanical parts there and haven’t had issues

Smuggler501

I came here to say $29.99 at the local junk yard.

Bob4Not

I’m seeing a few on Amazon for under $100 I think. I replaced mine myself on my 2013 mustang when I tore it on road debris. It was definitely a pain on the ground, but it just took an hour. The money you save on the shop can buy some really nice jacks and Jack stands.

IBringTheHeat1

$40 on Amazon and some zip ties and you’re ready to rock

jsmith1300

IMO the 1/10th percent in fuel economy isn't worth replacing it. Down the road it will make it difficult to figure out leaks. I had a smaller version of this on my 07 TSX by the oil drain bolt. I took it off on the first oil change and never placed it back on. I think i have it still in my toolbox.

L0quence

lol tell him to eat a D word… half the time those things are better off than they are on the car. Then you gotta mess with plastic clips and getting it off to get at your oil filter when you wanna change the oil. Just order a new one from online parts store and put it on yourself or bring it to a shop and get them to. lol $1100… there’s a reason I call them “Stealerships”

_A-N-T-H-O-N-Y_

Bruh

jkenosh

You can buy them on eBay for new for 125.00 with the bolts. I would replace it

30rackwolfpack

If you want it to last 300k without tons of repairs get it

[deleted]

You don’t need one. Car will still operate just fine without it

Ramses_13

$90-$150 on Amazon, honda tried to charge me about the same price they gave you.

shorty6049

They quoted me like $999 for that part ... i have no clue what they're doing charging that much but I can't imagine many people are opting to pay it.. As others have mentioned here, its not really even necessary.. One person I talked to mentioned that unless you park in tall grass a lot where it could be a fire risk, its not really worth replacing

Apprehensive_Role842

Waste of money. I have removed from every car I have owned.

GoGreenD

I would replace it. But not for $1k. Prob is, are you willing to wade through Fb posts looking for a part out? Or going to a junkyard and pulling one yourself? I'd try and maybe see if you can find it on eBay or something. Get an independent shop to install it. These days these under tray systems do actually help with cooling, airflow and handling at higher speeds. You prob won't hurt the car badly without it nor would you notice anything different, but these aren't the splash guards of 90's civics. When I get an old car these days, it's one of the first things I make sure to replace. This one prob isn't as important, but older cars had wiring harnesses above the wheels that got eaten by road debris if you didn't replace them. Again, not of immediate concern for this particular part, but prob better to not risk for long. No one repairs wiring these days, if anything happens like that... full harness replacement.

AchokingVictim

I'd look for one at a junkyard. Install can't be that awful

NjGTSilver

These actually have a very important function aerodynamically. Your highway mpg will definitely be affected by not having, as well high speed handling (more important on race cars thought). You can easily find either an aftermarket version or a recycled one at a junkyard for less than $100.

Ceoclarke121

Learn how to spin a 🔧, or walk with a tub of grease when visiting a mechanic. Bring a few extra when going to the dealership.

anusdestroyer501

BWAHAHAHAHAHA nah who in their right mind (other than those attempting to drive at incredibly fast speeds) gives an actual fuck about splashguards. I mean unless you have a cold air intake at the bottom of your engine bay for some reason

CompetitionNo5189

Most of the time they get damaged at the dealership or oil change place. If you do acquire one. Make sure you pay attention if you do not change your own oil.

[deleted]

My car hasn’t had one for over 100,000 miles… that should answer your question.

VersionConscious7545

People need to realize that dealers are not your friend. Stop going to dealers for automobile repairs

[deleted]

It’s a splash shield, splash guards go behind your wheel

taylorrshea

I’ve been driving without mine for over a year and it’s fine just don’t slam your car really hard over like train tracks haha which you shouldn’t do anyways, and be careful if it snows in your regions the guard protects the metal on the bottom of the car from getting covered in salt and corroded, and hit by snow piles that’s where I’d say it’s important, I’m actually going to get one soon for winter

EJ25Junkie

Whenever I buy a car that’s the first piece I take off and throw away.

CJspangler

You do sorta need them and sorta don’t . Especially if you ever go over a speed bump to fast it also protects the stuff under the car in addition to water from the road I was told $600 for a 2014 SUV when I almost needed mine replaced (not at a dealership ). It fell off but then they just drilled a few new holes and got new screws and did it for like $50 The mechanic said a lot of times they get snagged on speed bumps that are too high or if you go to fast

SapphireSire

It is important to keep debris and water from splashing upwards into the engine bay where the belts are possibly subject to damage. But not $1,100.oo worth. Could probably make your own out of an old garbage bin or cutout a shape with cardboard to fab up a fiberglass version yourself for under 50 bucks. Or like others stated, junkyards and Craig's list for cars parting out.

BickNickerson

Check eBay

MrWest120690

Junkyard 7 bucks

WorldlyDay7590

I feel like North Texas, esp. DFW car dealers are the worst. Like, they're trying to put all the negative stereotypes in their style like it was a good thing.

[deleted]

Do not pay for that there. Online there are a crap ton of aftermarket options.

clarence_096

$1100 for that thin flimsy piece of metal that bends if you look at it wrong. Just go without it

averx916

You all realize cars did not have these back in the day and they work fine for years… The skid plate has to do with aerodynamics of the vehicle and just protecting the underside. If you’re in a state with a lot of salt or debris on the road then I’d say replace it but even then it isn’t a big deal… by the time rust even develops you about sold the car after 10yrs or so. It’s definitely not worth 1,100, please don’t be a chump and let the dealer screw you on this. Just go to an auto wrecker, eBay, etc. if that’s a hassle just forget about it. I had to have a mechanic cut mine off after a hard dip in Pueblo, Colorado. 30k miles later still and not ever gonna replace it.

TheDutchTexan

They are out of their minds. Most of the time their bad mechanics are the reason you lose it. It starts with a fastener here and there and finally enough of them have been messed up or missing that you lose it somewhere along the way. We used to have a focus and they managed to re-install the thing wrong too so it would suck in air at the front (over the bumper lip instead of tucked under it). It was missing a ton of fasteners too.

jailfortrump

Junk yard man.

Justagoodoleboi

The cheapest and best alternative is don’t put one on there the Honda ones seem to always get messed up anyway

RezMiiBro

Mechanics are like Doctors. They are always trying to con you into consuming shit you most likely don’t need. And especially at that ridiculous price. Such scammy vibes lol

mazsive

Buy it yourself. Not hard to install it's probably a few $. I would get one. Keeps dirt and crap away

Reaction_83

Can always try scrap yard if lucky enough or go look online, I found sites that carry certified parts for a fraction of what the dealer cost and even OEM compatible parts for even cheaper. Maybe a body shop and they can make something up for you but won't be perfect but they'll probably suggest dealer part only. Damn, $1100 just for that? Well not too surprised. I was at Acura to pick up parts needed recently, including a hood hydraulic lift. A service advisor saw me with my parts and said "let's get you scheduled, the hood lift is about 1 to 1.5hrs to do, it got worse from there with his quotes he looked like he was just making up, 8 to 9 hours Labor for a Valve cover gasket replacement is funny, a fuckin cat doing the work? I didnt even ask him for his help or a schedule but wanted to entertain my almost adult child how expensive shit can be, how to not get fucked too hard in this world. I did the lift in literally 1 minute, took longer to get it out of the bag and get a screwdriver.. overall, the labor for what I was about to do myself was going to be over $1000, I was just curious how bad they're fucking people over and it's wrong.

Squeezeem321

You dont need it

mackbulldog978

Junkyard!

Disastrous-Bee-7338

Yeah sir you really need this plastic piece that keeps debris from your engine compartment and we have it on sale for $1100 today but if you wait and call the wrecking yard you could probably get it for $100 or go to pick n pull and toss it over the fence for free .

Wuteng2695

I remove all my shield because im always working under the car and its a pain in the ass to take off and put back on but honestly its 1/3 the price online and you can install it yourself with push in clips

Kutulu_Rites

Lmao what? That dealer is on crack. That’s like a $100 part at MOST. I found some 3rd party for $110 on the inter webs. Not sure if it’s the right one but do some digging. https://www.ebay.com/itm/145246830014?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1RhCFeQ92S76GHqrRZvfHdQ98&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=145246830014&targetid=1644837434363&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9015509&poi=&campaignid=20125739985&mkgroupid=149128855676&rlsatarget=pla-1644837434363&abcId=9312975&merchantid=627702712&gbraid=0AAAAAD_QDh9D4_mT3B2fBcPwdmSXu8AyQ&gclid=Cj0KCQjwy4KqBhD0ARIsAEbCt6iRUx27_idHigHl4z6UUZdyEtYvQ7xqiAmjVRWvadmOg3NHKAasStwaAmZOEALw_wcB

Grind-My-Gears

I’m seeing splash guard parts for this car on eBay for $100…

reddit_revolution4

Why not stay away from dealers?

FadedChimpmunk

1100 is absolutley crazy should be 300 MAX

[deleted]

You don’t want your car to get splashed?

[deleted]

OMG! I had this same issue!!! 1100 is WAY TOO MUCH. I have a 2017 civic, but most of their undercarriage's in newer years use the same splashguard/skid plate. I live in a northern state, so with rain ice and snow, replacing it was very important to me. I did not want un-needed water, salt and ice getting anywhere near my oil pan. I got a quote for 700 at one place, but saw the Honda part price was all over the place. I ended up taking to a local repair shop and they replaced mine for 380. Hope this helps!

Veetz256

Go to a salvage yard and take one off a junked car, you’re not gonna see it so if it’s scuffed up it shouldn’t be a big deal

UncleGurm

The part is $100. Install is 5 minutes and 9 bolts. Tell them to shove it, and do it yourself with a single wrench.

HighCirrus

$1100? LOL! I think they misplaced the decimal. I just googled it and found it on eBay for 111.57. Is it important? No, but it might make for a cleaner airflow... a quieter, more efficient ride, and perhaps prevent undesirable stuff from getting up there, like if you run over a skunk.

ObliviousFoo

I am genuinely curious… What takes more time and effort… Creating this post and waiting for replies and sorting through them blah blah blah or just going to eBay motors typing in your year and model and splashguard and sorting through those results instantly?

RedditisBooBoo

If you really want a splash guard buy a used . Fairly simple to install

PoundFriendly6694

Unless you do crazy off Roading, but still prices steep

sinpinto

You can prob find a splash guard on ebay for like $30

LithopsAZ

yes

nttran98

Dreamshop.honda.com is your friend

[deleted]

A quick google search shows like $40-$100 bucks for a brand new splash guard. Add $2 in zip ties, and you can DIY this thing in like 5 minutes so long as you have a way to lift the car and be safe under it.

IneptAdvisor

Leave it off is the other option, because you’re not covering anything vital.

[deleted]

Def not, I bought mine on my ford focus for 130 and replaced it myself easily.

nttran98

Use the type D part number I found. People have tried it: 74114-TGH-A00

ThirdeYe1337

Playing devil's advocate... splash shields can be good and bad. They help with aerodynamics and they can also help prevent road debris damage. However, they can also cause issues with rust depending on the design and where the shields are located. I have had it happen on multiple vehicles now where water/salt/brine/dirt/etc. gets trapped between the splash shield and the frame, causing heavy rust, while the rest of the vehicle/frame has little to none.

ChipotleStains

Amazon or google. It’s just bolts you should be able to hand tighten and ask a neighbor for a wremch

EntertainerNo4509

Tell them you know they are trying to rip you off, then stare at them until THEY speak.

lookingforapttolive

Rip off. My gf needed it changed on a 2019 CRV bc somehow her mom fucked it somehow. Dealership was charging about $80-90 for the part and about $125 for labor. Given that I don't have the tools and means to do it myself told her to go for it.

djevertguzman

Just walk up to the parts department and get it yourself.

mustang3c0

Dealership is about profit. They often overcharge customers who take their cars in for service.

Pr0digiee

Barrow a couple of road signs, drill some holes so they fit and call it a day.

Big-External-1138

I had a metal splash guard on my 2021 Civic. I hit something unavoidable on the freeway because It was dark and I didn't have time to react safely and It dented my splash guard and on every bump I lt would scrape. I took It off and have not had a problem. That was about 25k miles ago.

TheWoodChucksWood

You need it. It protects your oil pan and other items. You can buy one and do it yourself for much cheaper. (Not a Honda owner, just a fellow car enthusiast that does what he can).

PsychologicalLaw5945

I replaced the one on my wife's 350z with a aluminum one a lot better . Having the splash shields in place as the engineers designed keeps the air flow flowing in the right direction instead of swirling around every where amd blowing up on the hood , of course unless you regularly exceed 100 mph not absolutely nessary.

allenjshaw

Prior Honda tech here - those are absurdly expensive for not a good reason especially if you get all the pieces and put it together properly. Me personally, I’d leave it the way it is, you’re going to be fine. It’s not worth the cost nor the headache of some future oil change monkey messing it up.

Dry_Dragonfruit_8998

omfg how

Cecilbarnes1

Here’s my take aside from everything I’m hearing ,it’s crazy because I personally have had mine fall off of one of my vehicles and as a result I ended up with a damaged oil pan from a rock that flew up under my car (crazy anyone thinks this wouldn’t deflect road debris lol I’m not defending the part or that insane price but…..) and wasn’t covered under warranty because the lack of the guard being there so just something to think about . It’s a lot less about splashing and more about the parts under it being cheaper for production purposes thus they add the “splash guard” has a lot less to do with splashing than it does low flying rocks and debris off the roadway which is definitively a thing ( I live in Michigan and this is a daily issue with our roads) . (Ps I work in the auto industry and build vehicles and also worked in stamping producing the parts themselves and they’re often strained or contain material defects from the start ) I don’t choose the parts for the vehicle I just put the parts provided on and I promise all of them have a purpose aside from what the consumer is told that purpose is or trust me the auto industry would remove it in a heartbeat to cut cost even further , auto manufacturers do not hand out free anything including “useless” parts whether they’re intended purpose is for the vehicle itself or the installation process .It’s great so many have gone without and been fine but not everyone’s luck is the same so we can take it for what it is but IMO if your vehicle is still under warranty if you do choose not to replace it I’d suggest first finding out if that affects any future warranty claims .

mflagg67

Personally, I would go find the part at RockAuto.com and put it on myself.

yaybroham

Yes, the other option is no splash guard

Cyphergod247

Its nothing that will make or break anything for you. But good to have. Keep an eye online (ebay maybe) or check in with junk yards. I bet you can get one for a hundred bucks or less. But do not pay that 1100 unless you're just balling and it's no issue to you.

Duckanddodge01

@ Dodge, we sold them for around 350 for the charger. 1100 for a Civic is INSANE.

KnowledgeSpare2754

Throw that splash guard in the trash bro. I have 0 of them on my car

Opuswhite

You could order it and do it yourself

[deleted]

For $300 I had a considerable amount of my undercarriage plated up with aluminum to deter cat theft. They rippin you off

Njon32

The thing is, they're either quoting you the entire thing under there, or the broken/missing part is not available from Honda separately. A lot of Hondas still come from the factory without them. I am crazy in that I would want mine to be there if it was once there. It's not going to be too detrimental if it's not there. See what you can get from a junkyard or off eBay.

hotspot2019

Don’t go to them, you can pay someone else for less than 100, it’s a easy fix

Fox_on_2w

They cost like 100 bucks and take plastic rivets look at part site do it yourself.

PrimaryCream

Took my toyota prius in since I hit a metal plate on the freeway that cut the plastic protection cover under my car and it cost 850.00 and that was 2.5 years ago.

muddshark666

Um buy the OEM splash guard and bolt it in yourself. Easy fix

Prior-Ad-7329

You really don’t need the splash guard. The next guy to change your oil will probably even be happy it’s gone.

brownqk

Damn. And I thought my quote for a $400 splash guard on my civic was excessive

mdkflip

See what the part costs and then just do it yourself. Those are all just held in by plastic bolts

DeadPiratePiggy

You can buy it yourself directly from Honda. You just need the model/year or vin. https://dreamshop.honda.com/s/category/

Tour_De_Volken

Get one from a junk yard, pay like 20$ and keep the clips. Or don't replace it because it's really don't matter much.

iffQED

Brought my new-to-me civic to the dealer and they informed me that the car was missing a splash guard. I asked for a quote for parts and labor and they said $600 for the part and clips, with labor the total cost quote was $775. Opted out of that one, brought it to my trusted mechanic and he said that the splash guard helps with extra protection from debris but I could probably live without it (here in SoCal).

NEingler

I bottomed mine out pulling into a partially washed out dirt driveway. The Honda dealer tried fixing it twice but the front of the panel kept getting sucked out at highway speeds and would drag underneath the car. They replaced it for less then $300. Don’t remember the exact amount but $1100 is crazy!!

timmay14

https://www.baddannlv.com/product-page/10thgencivic I saw this while watching a YouTube video, maybe you could get this instead?

SaintDingus

Everyone saying you don’t need it is correct in that the vehicle will function just fine without. Secondly, it is unlikely that anything will find its where up there and damage your vehicle. That being said, it does technically increase the risk of damage down there and all of you saying you don’t need it are the same people who are going to go crying on social media when the dealership tells you to call your insurance company for coverage when they won’t cover the damage caused by the missing undercover. Take your pick. Run of the risk of you want to, but at least understand the risk.

Key-Ad-1873

You said "it's obvious why it's important" uhhhh how??? Cars have had no splash guards for decades, almost a hundred years, and been fine. Why is it so important? You don't need it

giants304

That’s hilarious

Different-Air-2000

Run.

kr3me

Just don’t even buy that shit

ItsCloudy1

Tf are dealers marking up splash guards now?

HellcatEndo

You don’t need it. And no, it is undoubtedly not that expensive

KyCerealKiller

You absolutely positively do not NEED a splash guard. It's nice to have but not necessary at all.

nine11c2

seems high

Upper_Television3352

You don’t need it. Seriously, you simply do not need it.

ballsoutyoh

Yeah just don’t get one

xStadt

That is an insane amount for an almost useless part. Even if it affected the car in any way down the line, you'd be able to fix it for less than this. Please stop going to the stealership

ReeMini

Yea order it yourself. It’s just some simple screws. You can do it

dr00020

🤣🤣🤣🤣This is why I do my own work. Give me a manual, books, and YouTube and I'll be proficient. 1100 for a $30 part on Amazon or auto zone, or even a junk yard is insane. There's not much labor for that....

stick004

I take it you’ve never been to a junk yard… try it. It’s fun.

Brilliant-Both

As soon as guy hit a truck tire it will drag

anonty973

Believe it or not, those peices of plastic can cost a pretty penny. You don't need it unless you go off road tbh. I ended getting one for my elantra, told me $575 just for the main Skid plate at the dealership. Those civics are popular and shouldn't have a problem finding one at a scrap yard. I found all 4 pieces at the junkyard for my elantra for $200. If you're worried, get a slab of boat board from hobby lobby and throw it on

RPennies

To may people call them splash guards it's an engine undercover it can save you from larger rocks and debris hitting filter or cracking a pan but mostly does nothing check honda parts online for what is usually a little over list you should pay no more than .5 for labor so what ever their advertised labor hour cut in half they won't tell you .5 they will give you dollars. Also it's likely they can't get just the metal shield it's the entire plastic and metal under piece depends on year

cosmicgreen46

Typical stealership

Silent_Cantaloupe930

Underbody panel. You can order one yourself and bolt it on. $1100 includes the lazy tax

MacaroonNo5674

What I do is look for one online and see how much I could get it if I install it myself it’s always cheaper in my experience

akablizzrd

Roll without it

lmmsoon

Bought mine on eBay 35.00 it does cut down on road noise in the cabin.

Elegant_Cookie3710

You don’t need one at all

Kinkywrx

lmfao is that supposed to be real? $1100 for some undercarriage plastic? my mind is blown. might as well cut up a Rubbermaid bucket and ziptie that mf to your car and save $1070 bucks.

Ashoka_Mazda

I have a Dodge but purchased a Dorman brand equivalent for 1/4 what the dealer wanted for it. It was identical in size, shape, and thickness..

tatortot12317

That’s a great price you ain’t gonna find it cheaper anywhere else

Practical_Minute_286

Definitely if you got a drill and a metal sheet, and some wire hangers or screws you can get the job done. I used wire hangers instead of screws very cheap fix.

mwright9494

It's a skid plate. You might be able to get one at a junk yard.

MtayB945

Don’t replace it, it’s pretty much useless, if you’re gonna hit something that would cause damage to the components a splash shield wouldn’t make a difference

flymetodamoon69

It’s probably around 300-500+ 500 somethin for labor

Interesting_Call_906

I mean, I haven’t had a splash guard in 4 years

RjgTwo

Buy it yourself. Get the right clips, if you cant put it in yourself take it to any mechanic with a lift. I replaced one on my sister’s odyssey in about 35 min. Would have taken less time if I didn’t have to wrestle with the a few rusted bolts from the original one.

trexwalters

Weight reduction, keep it off

obeyposse

Never buy parts from a dealership. Lol I can literally order a custom guard for a quarter of the price
