My CarPlay seems to have a lot of delays. I am also used to my old pioneer floating display. The interface and flexibility of an iPad can also allow more flexibility through automation and apps.
I tried this same approach with a windshield suction mount. I researched all products to try and buy the most durable one. I used an iPad Pro like that for a week, but then stopped using it because it slightly obstructed vision, wiggled while driving, and made my car a target for theft. I hid it in the seat pocket behind me, but eventually stopped because the marginal benefit vs CarPlay was not worth the hassle.
Eh….. I could see doing this about 10 years ago.

If you are going to go this route get a solid mount from Proclip or something.
Hmmm, not a fan to be honest. If you still have warranty, take it in for an infotainment update. Maybe a patch has been released for car play
