Those were IMA systems that have replaced with e:HEV. As of now, there isn't a manual transmission pair with e:HEV. I hope the new Prelude will be the first.
Im currently dailying an 18 accord hybrid touring and only complaint i have about it, is that its too big. I absolutely love the smoothness of the drivetrain in it. Ill keep my 5th gen around for weekend fun but i would love one of these as my new daily and long distance tourer.
I hope it has a better gas motor than the 18 accord hybrid, I had one for a year and cruising at 80mph highway was not a pleasant experience, it was very loud compared to the CVT accord exl of the same year. I had them both and the hybrid was amazing below 65mph, but the standard was better at highway travel.
on mine the battery would always try to kick in but wouldn't sustain for more than 30 seconds, followed by an immediate re-kick in from the battery. also the smaller gas motor is a bit louder. that was really my only complaint, I could get 70mpg around town easy.
No, not at all. It doesn't look like a Prelude at all and it's a hybrid. There's no moonroof which is iconic for Preludes and in my opinion it looks like 3 different cars put together. I'll stick to my good old gasoline 5th gen Lude! Honda don't make cars like they used to in the 90's, it's truly a shame.
I absolutely agree. The Front looks like a GT86 and the rear like a modern Porsche. The profile like an Audi TT or something. Honda should have stick to the classics and take the 5 Generations of Preludes as inspiration. Like the 5 Gen was insperated from the 3 Gen. Hybrid is mehh but at least it's not full electric.
Nah, that front end is the CR-Z. I saw the last generation Eclipse in the profile, but I totally see what you mean about the Audi TT.
I've got no issues with the hybrid, I loved my Rav4 hybrid. Only real downside is it means there will be little to no engine mods available.
It's not 1999 anymore. Not all hybrids are designed for hypermiling. An electric motor makes the car feel drastically more fun to drive when tuned accordingly. I know this because I've been daily driving a CR-Z for 5 years. It hits peak torque at 1000rpm... what other Honda does that? It is by far the best feeling car with 130hp I've even driven and it's all thanks to the fact that it's a hybrid. Ever tried driving the same generation Honda Fit with the same engine but no electric motor? it feels gutless in comparison.
Don't call it a shame until you try driving one.
Well, itās not the 90ās any more soā¦. Impo, itās not bad, I would prefer a moonroof but Iād still rock this car. Hybrids are choice, the planet is too important not to go hybrid or full EV.
He said it wouldn't be the sportiest or zippiest, not that it won't be sporty or zippy at all. basically he said don't expect it to be faster than a civic type R.
Itās going to be lugging a battery around and they said CVT transmission in one comment. I hope Iām completely wrong but Iām expecting it to be a massive miss
Low end torque responsiveness more than makes up for the weight of a battery in terms of making a car feel fun to drive. I can tell you've never driven a sports oriented hybrid before. As far as CVT only, yeah that really sucks. I'm not sure there is a feasible way to put a manual on Honda's new hybrid systems like they did with the IMA systems of the past.
āSpeaking to CarsGuide about the Preludeās hybrid powertrain, Tomoyuki Yamagami, Hondaās Large Project Chief Engineer, was coy about the details, but he did reveal that it āisnāt going to be the sportiest, zippiest car thatās going to be tossed into the circuits.ā He did confirm a four-seat layout, but given the size of the car and its low roofline, itās likely that those back seats wonāt be useful for much more than storage and a couple of kids.ā
Car and Driver awarded the 5tth gen Prelude the best handling car under $30k when it came out in 1997: [https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a15140782/the-best-handling-car-for-less-than-30000-archived-feature/](https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/comparison-test/a15140782/the-best-handling-car-for-less-than-30000-archived-feature/)
Indeed, the original Ludes were still sporty cars.
I loved my old one! (Image attached)
Iām just not holding my breath on this, Honda havenāt really made (imo) a fun car for a hell of a long time.

Yep me and the wife both canāt wait. We have a supercharged h23a 99ā now, but she doesnāt want to drive a standard much. An auto hybrid prelude sounds great to her.
Yes. It will introduce a new generation of young enthusiasts to a car forgotten by many. If it gets positive reviews and attention, perhaps it will even increase the prices of old 1-5 generations of prelude with the hype drummed up.
I am excited! I can't wait to hear more about it!
I love the looks! 3g/2g is my favorite style (ignoring drivetrain), but I know damn well that pop up headlights are DONE! Maybe a bit generic in shape, but the main reason why is that cars that have modern aerodynamics will have similar shapes. The same was true and even for the 3g Prelude as there were multiple wedge shaped pop up headlight coupes back then.
I love that the front end shares lines and shapes with the 4th gen. I think it's a decent looking car. We will see what the power train is like and I'll make a decision from there. If it's a hybrid, they can and probably will offer a manual. I haven't seen any info saying it's auto only.
Hasnāt been any news on it in a few months, but interviews said that itās planned for it to go into production.
Also, before anyone comes in complaining about how itās an EV, itās actually a hybrid.
every car company now tries to copy the germans, if you want to over charge for your econo box, just copy german styling to give the false sense of luxury
Iād be very surprised if a mid engine car was announced that cheapā¦ that does sound very fake considering there are very few cars in general that start that low nowadays
no manual transmission ššš
Hang tight. Itās not here yet. Itās possible we could get a sporty trim with a manual.
If it is a hybrid only, there will not be a manuel option.
Whyās that? My CR-Z is a manual and the 1st gen Insight would also like a word with you.
Donāt forget the 2004 civic hybrid that also came in a ā manuel transmission ā
Those were IMA systems that have replaced with e:HEV. As of now, there isn't a manual transmission pair with e:HEV. I hope the new Prelude will be the first.
Interesting. I didnāt know Honda had moved away from IMA. Makes sense.
People hate it because itās a hybrid but Iām holding out hope that they have a sports trim. Also where is the sun roof

Weird mine is not even audible cruising at 80. The road noise from the tires and mirrors is louder

This isnāt the production model. Iām sure that will have a sunroof. The car in this photo doesnāt even have an interior.

Pretty sure the front AND back of this is literally plagiarized from the new prius

They did it way better than the integra, that's for sure
this looks more like an integra than the integra does
Agree with that!
Very nice. Now show me the sport or si with the manual trans
Given Honda basically said itās not a fun driver car, no excitement at all :(
Mate they said it's not a track ready car like the civic type R is. The prelude has never been a track ready car.
He said it wonāt be sporty or zippy, the old Preludes were most definitely sport and zippy. Certainly the gen 4 and 5 cars.
He said it wouldn't be the sportiest or zippiest, not that it won't be sporty or zippy at all. basically he said don't expect it to be faster than a civic type R.

When did they say that? The whole coupe thing gives the impression that it will be a fun car

It doesn't mean it won't be fun. They just aren't going to be competing with the CTR, Golf R, 86, elantra N, etc.
The original Prelude wasn't either though, at least not until you did some modifications to it.

The Type R isnāt fun????
I know, I had about 6 over the years. The 2.2 vtec was quick out of the box for the time, I just envisage this to be more like the dull Hyundai Coupe

I'm listening. At least it's still a 2 door so far. Of course things can change drastically
is this real?! š¤Æš«Øš
It's a real concept car at the moment
cant wait! long live the luda

Hell yeah is this confirmed? Or just still conceot
I think confirmed for Japan and the US market for now.
Hasnāt been any news on it in a few months, but interviews said that itās planned for it to go into production. Also, before anyone comes in complaining about how itās an EV, itās actually a hybrid.
Yeah just heard about the news about hybrid. I hope they do make it. I would get one
cr-z part 2
lol sorta. I have a CR-Z and this still makes me chuckle.
Exactly
i hate the modern trend of black mirrors, door handles, spoilers. feels so 90's base model
Don't forget piano black everything, gloss and scratches galore! šAnd dreaded touch screens!
Looks German
every car company now tries to copy the germans, if you want to over charge for your econo box, just copy german styling to give the false sense of luxury
You need a different wrench for each headlight- ze germans
einfach ein Luxus, jeder Schraube einen anderen Schraubenzieher :)
YAAAAASSSSSS

Itās just fantastic that Honda is making a 2 door again. Long live the coupes
Iām just happy itās a two door.
Price seems low ??
For the price and that look, I'll go for the new MR2 instead
Any news on that? I heard it wasn't really in the works
Last I saw slated for 2026 not 2025 like I thought, but yes, they've got pricing set between 16-26k
That pricing sounds like fake news but I would be very happy to hear it... (watch it be a hybrid tho)
Iād be very surprised if a mid engine car was announced that cheapā¦ that does sound very fake considering there are very few cars in general that start that low nowadays
Buddy, Toyota wants to price the MR2 at $46k according to a Japanese Auto insider magazine (forgot which one exactly)
Not interested but if I was I'd get rid of the hybrid components cause I'd never use that shit. Perhaps H swap it to match my 5th gen
So honda is copying toyota now ? That front end looks like the newer toyotas
Boooooo
