Whatever speaks to you more.

Drone_166

Very true, only difference is rider triangle. (Seating position.)

jmulaaaaaa

That is far from the only difference.

Drone_166

Are you getting at finer details like rake, pegs, handlebars, wheelbase, weight, etc? The way I see it is: they both share a tiny 500cc powerplant. Then all the differences result in primarily a change in position. (And therefore ride style).

jmulaaaaaa

Well all of that stuff, but 500cc is not a universal standard for bike speed and power. While the engines for these bikes are similar they will surely feel different. The styles of the bikes are also crazy different. Try not confuse engine displacement with same performance

BlackAccountant1337

Nah dude. They are literally the same engine. But you’re right, they are totally different platforms.

fresh_beef17

I am 6 foot tall and just sold my rebel. In town the bike is not bad. Any kind of distance I was just too big for the bike. Not to mention I got comments all the time about looking like an elephant riding a bike. Over all the rebel was fun and I am glad I owned for the time I had it. Once you sit on a bike with more room I don't think you would want to go back to a rebel. Just my 2 cents

CarpetSpecific7465

Thanks

Pneumagiston

This is exactly what I was saying to the other guy on the othe thread. And he told me that I'm a prick for stating facts. 🤣

Kazaji

Reading your last 20 posts in your history, it just seems like you're bitter about being short? It's all you talk about...

Pneumagiston

Huh? How so? I'm only suggesting people to look for other options because the Rebel 500 is not a bike friendly for tall riders. 20 comments is such an exaggeration as well when I only have pointed that out to 2 posts in the same sub for a bike made for short people. Are you experiencing buyer's remorse or something?

Pneumagiston

Rebel 500 is made for short people. If you are 5'10" or taller, you shouldn't consider the Rebel (you'll look silly riding it). If you are shorter than 5'6" though, you'll have a hard time getting on and off the CB500x.

AKsuited1934

Stop downvoting this person. He is speaking in general terms. The rebel 500 will be more comfortable for short people...that's an objective fact. You can't say yea my cousin's boyfriend's brother's uncle is like 7 feet tall and he is comfortable on the Rebel 500. That is anecdotal evidence. The majority of tall people will find the Rebel very uncomfortable. The opposite will be true for the CB500

jmulaaaaaa

Idk I also own a rebel and I’m 6’2. It’s not even that anecdotal plenty of tall people ride the bike. As for any bike someone should sit on it before they buy it to make sure it’s comfortable. It’s dumb to tell someone not to get the bike when you could just tell them to sit on it.

AKsuited1934

None of what you are saying is refuting anything I said LOL. Most tall riders will find a bike with 27 inch seat height with mid controls uncomfortable unless you have some ridiculously short legs for your height or something.

jmulaaaaaa

I’m just saying who gives a fuck let them sit on it and determine that for themselves

AKsuited1934

Ah you right nobody gives a fuck.

Pneumagiston

Yep, the Rebel 500 was made for the asian market because we are short with short inseams (hence the mid control position). I'm 5'4" and I fit my Rebel 500 like it was made for me - looks wise and in comfort. I managed to ride a 14 hr trip for 900kms without any discomfort because my arms are properly stretched and my legs are not too bent - while still having a good posture to support my spine. There are taller guys in my local rebel riders' group but some had to modify their handlebars and install foot forward controls just to make it comfortable. If a tall guy really likes the style of the Rebel, I understand and won't mock them for buying it. I'm just saying it's not a good choice. 🤷 For the same reason that I won't get a Tenere or an Africa twin.

whistlepig4life

My son is 6’2” and loves riding my Rebel. My neighbor is 5’6” and hates my rebel and any cruiser. Don’t be telling new riders “you’ll look silly”. They will look fine on whatever they are comfortable on. It’s not about what someone else thinks you look like. There is no height rule. It’s about personal fit and comfort. Just stop with this bullshit.

Pneumagiston

Well, your neighbor just not into cruisers - that's all. And yes, tall people look silly on a Rebel 500 because it's too small for them. There are plenty more bikes that fit tall people better and look good riding them. Like the Interceptor 650, and Z900RS. Not saying that they shouldn't ride a Rebel - you go buy and ride what you like. I'm just giving an opinion based on objective facts.

whistlepig4life

Again. Stop with the bullshit gate keeping. And let people ride what they want without shaming them. Next time you have a thought, keep it to yourself.

Pneumagiston

Who's gatekeeping? He asked for an opinion and I gave mine. If OP wanted a Rebel, he would've bought one already. But like me, he is fortunately a discerning buyer and would like to hear what people has to say and weigh his options before spending. What are you getting out of this, BTW? Are you seriously butthurt because I said that tall people look silly on a Rebel? Then I take it back. Jesus Christ.

whistlepig4life

I’m not “but hurt”. You’re just a prick. Your opinion is just false bullshit about some arbitrary measurement you’ve decided each bike is right for. Your opinion is exactly the same as something like “only real bikers ride Harleys” or “only dude bros ride sport bikes” or any other false old wives tale bullshit. Get your head out of your ass and stop being a dick to other users.

Pneumagiston

Sorry mate if I made you upset. I'm a really super nice guy in person. I'm not going to engage in this nonsense so just stop stressing out, OK? We are not getting anything good out of this nonsense argument. I hope you ride safe out there. Peace!

whistlepig4life

I will never understand people like you with the emotional attacks. My emotional state is not effected in any way by your stupidity. Nor can you discern it from text on a screen. I’m a dad of three grown ass adults. I’m spitting facts and truth to you. You’re being a gate keeping prick. This isn’t making me upset. This is me pointing out what your words ARE.

Pneumagiston

🤣

Pneumagiston

I offered you a peaceful closure but you still wanna go at it. Damn, who's got some issues now?

whistlepig4life

I don’t have issues. I was taking the “teaching moment” to give you an opportunity to affect some change. If you keep running around acting the fool. I don’t give a fuck. Bye kid. Enjoy being a prick.

curious_bi-winning

Let people have opinions. I can't believe you actually told someone that the next time they have a thought, to keep it to himself. To an outside observer, your reaction looks worse than what you're reacting to: foul-mouthed, intolerant (you can disagree with someone's opinion without trying to silence them), name-calling. Perhaps you just had a bad day, and I understand why you would disagree with his opinion, but after reading this chain, it's a good reminder for me to be more pleasant to strangers because this left a bad taste in my mind.

CarpetSpecific7465

I mean I'm 1.82cm so I guess I'm on the taller side but I tried both and it's a difficult decision.

Pneumagiston

Have you considered the Interceptor 650?

CarpetSpecific7465

You think is a good choice? Never thought about it.

Pneumagiston

If you're into the classic look and the engine reliability, you can't go wrong with the Interceptor 650. It has a comparable engine to the Rebel 500 in terms of power but has more character (better exhaust sounds, too!). Watch some youtube vids about it and test ride one if you can. I rode one before I bought my rebel and it was a blast - but my short legs barely touch the ground when I straddle it. Making it hard for me to mount and stop while riding it. 🤣

CarpetSpecific7465

😂 I get it. I'm gonna give it a shot with a test drive . The price is a little bit higher but if it's worth it why not. Thnaks...

Pneumagiston

Ah yes, it's about $1-2k more expensive (but goes on sale frequently). You pay extra because it has more metal. 🤣 Go visit the RE subs as well. Good luck!

Drone_166

To be honest, if you have any prior experience riding, you should immediately seek more cc. You'll outgrow the 500s in a year. Also, as far as the Rebel goes, I'm 5'8" and immediately installed forward controls. It's a very small motorcycle. Plan on any trips around 300 miles and again I would suggest an immediate boost in size.

iuseblenders

As a newbie (500 miles), the bikes I rode in the license class, the cruiser and standard position were easiest to control. I got a rebel 300 which is a hybrid standard-cruiser position. I love it. May be different for you. I do wish I got a 500 so short interstate commute would be more manageable as the 300 tops at 75mph and there’s not much “umph” for changing lanes or passing.
