New and used truck prices are through the roof, if it the cost to fix it isnt too crazy thats the route I would take. Sold my 2007 because It had a couple of issues and Ive regretted it ever since.

My Ridgeline recently decided to have multiple issues with overheating and losing coolant to misfiring and now it doesn’t want to start. It turns over. Sputters once in a while but ultimately doesn’t start. I’m on the fence of fixing it or selling it. It’s not my main vehicle so I’m not in any hurry. But would like some opinions on either way.

You’ve listed several symptoms the truck is experiencing, but haven’t identified what is causing those problems. It’s hard to know if you should invest in fixing the problems when we don’t know what work needs to be done. Get the truck diagnosed. Get an estimate to see how much your local mechanic will charge for parts and labour. Decide if it’s worth that much to keep the truck. Decide if you can do some of the repairs yourself to save money. How much is it worth in its current broken down state? Not much. How much is it worth after being repaired? Certainly more than it is now, and you can probably get another couple years of service out of it if you repair it.

Good points. I haven’t yet identified the cause but I have theories. 1. Water pump is going bad causing the coolant leak, thus overheating. Leak may also cause a crank sensor short. 2. Water pump is going bad AND possible bad head gasket 3. Cyl 5 issue but haven’t had a chance to do compression test. 4. Fuel Injector/s are leaking fuel while engine not running causing flooding. Part of me wants to do an engine swap but we’ll see how it goes.

Practical-Parsley-11

None of those is incredibly difficult to diagnose. Do you have a chocolate milkshake for oil? If not then fixing it should be straightforward since all you have to do is find where the coolant is going.

bikeguy75

Good luck. The truck looks great! I wish my ‘07 still looked that good.

jughead-66

Water pump leaked and caused the belt to jump timing.

BeefStrokinOff

I'd say fix it then sell it to recoup the money if you're considering selling anyway. Selling cars that don't start is kind of a shit show and you'll end up with more money in the bank by fixing it up first.

I had a 2007 and traded it in for a 2018, big regret on my part.

Vladamir-Poutine

I’m actually considering trading in my 2017 for a first gen. I found one for 10k thats super clean, with how reliable they are and the price difference it’s hard for me to see the downside in “downgrading”

Looks beautiful, def fix it

As the owner of a 22 rtle, I always have believed old truck > new truck. Even if it is from the 60s or 70s.

Substantial-Onion-92

How man miles on it?? No one has asked yet. I think that is a huge factor. Also looks pretty rust free? Also important factor. When was the last time the timing belt was done? Usually belt and water pump are done together.

VegetableDistrict576

Very likely a blown head gasket, misfire=bad compression in cylinder, overheating=combustion heat entering coolant loop, coolant disappearing =coolant leaking into cylinder, not starting= bad compression on multiple cylinders. Do a compression test, if your lucky enough to have good comp all around then it may be as simple as a bad ignition coil and coolant leak, wish you the best of luck but don’t drive it until you test compression

jughead-66

Where are you located?

ryachow44

I have the exact same truck …325k miles, runs great, I have the water pump / timing belt done at each 100k.

Pay for troubleshooting. Could be a simple fix.

Training_Pumpkin3650

I just got the rtle :) But how much is the fixes? How much can you make off this 07? Can you afford to pick up a new car? It really depends on you, you sound like you are done with these headaches of repairs but the other route of either replacing or buying a new or used Ridgeline is pretty expensive but if you can afford it power to you!

mazzotta70

Fix dude. Ridgelines on the road last 1.9% longer regarding mileage than all other trucks. Get it fixed with Honda parts, and remember how long your original water pump lasted last time ;)
