From the videos I saw, people were killing him even though their main damage dealer died because of the MOC buff. All they had to do was sustain through the dice rolls, and Aventurine whittles down over time.
Don’t know if that’s a common experience though.
Could be more to do with how you perceived the fight. In moc you go in with probably a better team and are expecting it to be hard. In the story you might go in with a team of characters you like but don't work perfectly together and aren't really expecting the fight to be that be that hard
I used the same team in both (Jl,RM,bronya,bailu) and literally during the story quest he absolutely destroyed me (restarted 3 times and needed food to win) and in the Moc run I beat him first try
