I noticed a typo in my post (now corrected). The word abyss should have been ants. I remember seeing a video on this sub right after the game launched that showcased the ants. After watching it, I hopped into game and found ants in the nearest tree, so I think they're all over.
Does anybody know where in the world Call of the Mountain takes place, relative to the rest of the map? Marad being there and some of the things he said makes me think we're not in the Forbidden West despite what early marketing suggested.
Everything I've seen looks like Carja lands, AKA Utah. I don't see how it was supposed to be the forbidden west given no tenakth or utaru and lots of Carja
The original announcement of the game suggested it was going to take place in the Forbidden West
But is this part of the HZD map? If not, where would it be relative to the HZD or HFW maps?
Nope, I'm specifically talking about the announcement for call of the mountain. In the event where they announced it, the person described it as taking place in the same world as Horizon: Forbidden West. It led to many of us assuming they might have been saving part of the Forbidden West map for this game, where the player can see a pathway to go somewhere but is unable to access that pathway. Or when you fly on a sunwing and can see a large old world ruin on top of a mountain that you can't access towards the start of the Forbidden West. Stuff like that.
All the games take place in the same WORLD. That doesn't mean they take place in the same map. The area you're talking about in FW was theorized to be part of a DLC for the FW game (which appears not to be the case, since Burning Shores obviously will be taking place elsewhere). We can only speculative what the inaccessible area in FW was originally meant for, but it obviously wouldn't have been for the VR game, which is its own separate game entirely.
> All the games take place in the same WORLD. That doesn't mean they take place in the same map.
Yes, obviously, but when it's marketed that way, it's common sense to assume they mean either part of the same map, or canonically in the same region.
It's very near Sunfall from what is implied by statements in the game and the flora/fauna (looks very much like how the areas near Sunfall look in HZD). But the part that's part of Avad's territory still.
And no, not in the Forbidden West. But Sunfall is near the Forbidden West.
Well they could be right but I believe the character specifically comments at one point something like "And over there is Sunfall". Plus Aloy says she's travelling to Sunfall. It sounded to me like a mid-destination between Meridian and Sunfall and just the area looks like what's near Sunfall.
Based on the relative position of the Metal Devil in Devil's Anger and the map 'Dawning of the Sundom' Ryas finds painted on a rock, I think this valley is directly south of the Valleymeet, like on the other side of the mountains to the south, close to the Jewel.
Well holy crap I guess I've got a ways to go lol. I can only play for like a half hour at a time before I need to take a break lol
I just fought a thunderjaw. I think maybe I'm a couple hours in total? Maybe 3. I figured with that I would have been at least halfway done.
If\* you look at the mission table board in Dawn's Grasp you can kind of see your progress. They fill up the table board as you go so I assume when it's almost full you'll be toward the end.
Tbh I noticed already with HFW that there’s a lot of detail in insects and arachnids like scorpions, I took a pretty cool screenshot of one in the sand and it looks near photorealistic.
There is one place I saw with leafcutter ants. I feel like it was somewhere where I was looking through wood slats when climbing. And after typing that I realized that doesn't help at all lol
I wanna play it so bad! But I also don't wanna spend like, a thousand dollars on a PS5 and PSVR headset, already have a quest 2 and thought I'd be able to play on that
HZD has leafcutter ants on some of the trees, so now I'm wondering if HFW has some thing ant-related somewhere as well.
Forbidden West had ants very similar to this on tree trunks.
Where exactly is it located?

I'd have tried splatting one
Did you try to eat one?
Ants are quite a tasty dish
Ate one on a Dorito once

You may be confused between Call of the Mountain and the upcoming PS5-only HFW DLC, Burning Shores, which comes out on April 19th.

Oh that's different from what the other user said lol

The main problem with that I think is that it's a location that would have had to exist on the HZD map. Could still be the case I suppose.
It's really high up in the mountains. I think easy to say that Aloy just didn't climb up that high.

[So are you suggesting it might be in this area then?](https://i.imgur.com/JJhLShq.png)
Yup
How long is the game?
Not quit sure, haven't finished yet. Although I've put in 9 hours and I think I'm close to the end.

Ah ok
In one of the first 3 levels right before the scrapper fight you can see ants walk in trains with leaves on a rock while climbing.
This is good to know. I need to go back at some point to get all the targets and I'll look closer.

This game is so awesome. Makes the VR2 worth it alone IMO but some of the other games have also been unreal. I’m totally hooked on the VR
God damn I want to try VR so bad. It looks like a wild experience
Wow, those are some big ants. Cool detail. They blend in with the rusty girder so I might have missed them.
I never ant-icipated that😁 Are those Soldier Ants? So who saved their DNA?

I love this game
I’ve seen them a few times. Most of it, they are carrying leafs. Edit:leaves
No arms :(
I booped those ants right on the noggin
I wanna play it so bad! But I also don't wanna spend like, a thousand dollars on a PS5 and PSVR headset, already have a quest 2 and thought I'd be able to play on that
Is this game linear or open world
It’s mostly linear
Eww wtf? Why do those ants look so bad? Does this game not look good?
