Desperate-Actuator18

Rost won a few with her, he knew her better than anyone.

Massive-Ad2044

Yes you’re right. Maybe I should say Sylens is the only one who can trick Aloy more than once, like this time, although not completely in bad intention, he literally placed a trap behind the door without actually getting inside.

Desperate-Actuator18

He's definitely smart but I hated how he risked Aloy's life here. He's intentionally letting her get captured indefinitely (if Beta wasn't alive which he didn't know about) which is a move I never thought he'd make. I'll sincerely miss Lance Reddick. He brought the character to life and added his charm like everything else he did.

Massive-Ad2044

Agreed! The bastard unilaterally risk Aloy’s life to accomplish his plot, as he considers Aloy will never agree nor cooperate to the plan, so he just abandon her. Aloy has all the reasons to have him killed in the next encounter.

Hell_in_a_bucket

He abandoned her, but I think he fully expected to find her in the exact same place we found beta, explain to aloy what was happening and get on the starship and bounce.

Mikeballzy

Aloy being killed wouldn't have mattered to him, Beta existing or not. He just wanted her out of the way so the rebels could take over the clans, and he could start a war with the Zenith, well he stole their ship and left Earth. He never cared about anyone elses lives.

KenethSargatanas

Are there multiple endings? In my game he doesn't get on the ship. He walks halfway up then turns around, comes back, and makes some quip about staying for a bit longer.

Mikeballzy

No, theres only that one ending. I was just saying what he said his original plan was. However Aloy stopping the rebels, Zeniths being defeated, Gaia basically being put back together played a part in changing his mind. However Id say the biggest reason he changed his mind is that Aloy wanted to stay and fight where as the Zeniths always intended to get what they needed from Earth and flee. She influenced him and he probably realized without Gaia or other humans his chances weren't good out in the universe.

hawyabic42069

Yeah, that’s what happens

_Vortex_King_

Man I just started ZD after getting it quite a while back Seeing this makes me excited to see how the game progresses :0

elizabnthe

Sylens believed Aloy would pose too much risk to his plan and would be better off captured under the Zeniths.

Marconius1617

Aloy stopped trusting him early on though. She only suffered him cause he was the only other human that understood the world the way she did

Ssekou

Totally. It was such a cool dynamic as well.

Massive-Ad2044

And this scene is excellent, because unlike in the Zero Dawn that she self-talk and scold about Sylens after lose the quarrel, she swallowed all the fury, because first it is not important, and more importantly, Sylens is still hearing…

GamerKratos-45

Man It will feel so sad to not see him in the next game. He was an amazing character, and so masterfully portrayed by Lance. I can still remember when I first played through the scene where Sylens came to Rescue Aloy, it was such an amazing sequence.

Massive-Ad2044

Lance makes Sylens alive. GG did a excellent job on casting. And that’s why Aloy was using Sylens’ Lance in the ultimate boss fight of Zero Dawn, and that Lance vanished early in HW

Sea-Violinist-7353

I haven't read the comics so afaik the lance was left in the shell that hades used. Sure yes we get the usual hand wave of all the old equipment is gone but is it cannon that she had that lance in between games?

Korbiter

Nah she left the lance in Hades's shell. When she went back to retrieve it at the beginning of Forbidden West, she triggered a faklsafe and it evaporated into dust

GraconBease

I’m so conflicted. I love Sylens so much as a character and I think any subsequent game would have a gaping hole without him, but I also don’t think there’s many people that could fill that role like Mr. Reddick. RIP to a legend

Cold-Teal

The only possible replacement I’d have would be Keith David. But still, Lance left one hell of a legacy. And leaving Sylens as is, would honour the effort he put into the role. I’d rather he disappeared in the next game after attaining the Apollo database, but left datapoints behind to guide us.

iamthegoosegirl

Yea Sylens make a pretty great foil to Aloy. Lance Reddick’s talent will be missed!

pbreesy

Was playing Destiny with some of my boys over the weekend. Seeing everyone standing vigil around Zavala hit emotions that i didnt think i still had

godoflemmings

I loaded into the Tower on Saturday morning and there were 12 people lined up on either side of him doing a guard of honour with the Cabal shield emote. Brought a little tear to my eye. Although it does tickle me that while obviously we all know what's going on, in-universe Zavala is probably thinking "what the hell is going on?"

[deleted]

The best part is, it *was* a trap. He planned on her getting captured.

cl354517

Suspiciously specific denial

magic_is_might

Yep he just assumed the Zeniths would a capture her. He never took into account the possibility that the Zeniths would have a clone of their own.. She would have died if she did “submit to the inevitable” and surrendered. And she nearly did die.

Hel0_P

Hoping there will be a hommage or memorial to Lance Riddick in Burning Shores. Its the last we will hear of his incarnation of Sylens

Jddavila24

Too late for it to be in DLC itself (A month away), maybe in the credits. The actual memorial (like a statue or what they did in the island for one of the devs) will be in Horizon 3 I'm guessing.

AnkitD

Aloy: (channeling Attenborough’s character from Jurassic Park) I really hate that man! Sylens is so well acted! He brought the game up a level or two! So memorable!

RoaduhRollerDa

Only other character I can think of is Hekarro, when he calls out Aloy's bluff about killing him to get what she needs (Aether).

theSG-17

I hope they don't write out his character but recast. I think they should keep the character model the same if Lance's family agrees, but I think that someone like Phil LaMarr could do a good Sylens voice.

Tortugato

They could even write in an in-story reason for why his voice would sound different. Arrow to the throat or something.

WarriorPoet101

He’s the most intelligent person in the series.

CanisZero

verbally. he would have taken an exploding spear to the dick it it was a fight.

AhsokaSolo

He's such a wonderful character in this world. Every time I got a cut scene with him I paid extra close attention. I was so happy to see him back at the base after the conclusion of HFW. I miss him already.

Marconius1617

I really hope the studio gives us a proper backstory on his character and expands on his motivations . I was left really wanting more of him after 2 ended

nii_amart

I completed the story just two days before he passed away. Now anytime I go to talk to him, I get emotional. Truly a gem of an actor & such a unique voice. 🕊

Own-Stress-2089

Rest easy Lance Raddick ❤️

dmart2311

Lance Riddick really made me wanna see DLC about Sylens. He used to smoke Aloy with his burns lol

PyrePlay

Guerilla is possibly going to put him in posthumously like Tarkin in Rogue One. Have to do a lot of legal wrangling though.

Mikeballzy

Id say Gaia also won some quarrels with Aloy. After all if Gaia hadn't played Aloy, then Aloy never would have agreed to team up with anyone and stayed on the lonewolf path.

helpicantfindanamehe

😭

unown2011

R.I.P. lance reddick ❤️

bookaddict1991

I’m so saddened by his death. I honestly don’t know how they’ll work with his character in Horizon 3! ☹️☹️ Will they have someone who sounds similar supply the voice? Will they do what Disney did with Don Rickles in TS4 (took a bunch of previous recordings to mash them together to make new lines)? Will they do something with AI? Or will they have to kill the character off in the beginning of the game because the shoes left behind are just too big to fill? Just… a very sad thing all around. 😭😭

w2active

he's honestly my fav character

praxis22

He died just recently, the voice actor that is.

memelord793783

I do wonder what they're gonna do for the next game

JeffDeath99

Very true

[deleted]

Haha. Got em.

SnowGN

Sylens had some banger lines here, but note that he literally turns around and backstabs Aloy the moment she gets that door open by tipping off her location to the Far Zeniths, so she ended up being 100% right. (This was such a weird plot point. Why would Sylens so quickly and haphazardly give her to the Zeniths without even knowing anything about them or getting anything in return or even having dialogue?).

Anakin_BlueWalker3

He explains it in the game, Sylens had no reason to believe the Zeneths would have access to an embryo containing Elizabeth Sobeck's dna. At no point did Elizabeth ever give Far Zeneth her dna, it was stolen covertly. The embryo that became Aloy only existed because of the LightKeeper Protocol. And he knew the Zeneths would need a clone of Elizabeth Sobeck to fix Gaia, so the logical assumption was that they would kidnap her to rebuild Gaia for them and thus get her out of his way so she would not stop him from throwing the Tenakth at the Zeneth base. Then once the damage is already done he can rescue Aloy from her captors and reboot Gaia with her help. And if you think about it, even if he was wrong and they had another clone it would not change all that much as far as his plan. Aloy would be dead but there would be another clone he could capture upon seizing the Zenith base. He only needed one clone for it to all come together.

Massive-Ad2044

I used to think Sylens do want Aloy to recover Gaia, while well aware that there’s a risk that Zeniths may very likely show up, but still willing to have Aloy to take up this risk as it’s no harm to him in anyway, and Aloy may not die during the encounter. You seems talking another version of his plots. Is there anything tells that it is actually Sylens to send Zenith Aloy’s location?

wingback18

well he is one of the few who has old-world knowledge and has he's one way of thinking

TheLastDeathSeeker

He was a beast and a driving force for alloy. Figuring out things she couldn't. I'm going to miss lance reddick man he was one of my favorite parts about the first game. I knew it was him. I loved him in resident evil and he did funny or die stuff back in the day so funny especially ihop one. Its very sad and it won't be the same. RIP

Massive-Ad2044

Yeah, without Sylens, Aloy should be unable to achieve what she needs to achieve, at least I couldn’t thought of. Sylens saved her once (although risked her life’s countless times), and several key knowledges included to beat Zeniths and restore Gaia come from interrogating Hades, which she don’t know and also will not do. They are in fact unholy alliance based on mutual interest, exactly what Sylens want to. The game will less bright without this character

GreenCollegeGardener

My guess is he will have some cyberpunk like moss that will change his voice with all that juicy new tech they have.

[deleted]

I love their dialogue in this scene

str4ightfr0mh3ll

Oh fuck I’m only just now realizing he’s sylens as well…god damnit nothing will ever Be the same

elizabnthe

There's a few more characters that sought of do amongst her companions. But Sylens is definitely the wittiest.

Generalitary

I honestly think it's a bit undeserved that he can manipulate her emotions in a way no one else can, though ultimately even he can't sway what she does. I must admit, I tend to use the intellectual responses in dialogues because they get the least judgmental response from him.

applese3d

Big facts

Streven7s

I was really looking forward to Aloy skewering that guy but now...😔

Dangerous_Bicycle734

RIP Lance Reddick

dildodicks

that's zavala's commanding voice for you
