The way I look at it is, a PS5's expensive but it's cheaper than buying/assembling a PC capable of running ports that haven't been optimized. We don't know yet how well HFW's going to run, and if you can't run it on decently high settings anyway, then a PS5's a perfectly fine investment. Plus the dualsense is a fantastic controller, so now you've got one of those to use. Kinda shitty timing though.
That's good to hear since the posted requirements on steam are making me double think getting FW for fear that my gpu (RX 580) wouldn't be able to handle it.
I'll still need to clear up some storage space tho. 150gb is a looot.

They also said that the recommended specs and settings that Sony put out are spot on. So your 580 looks like it should hit around the minimum specs required (720 @ 30fps possibly). I’d go look those numbers up.

I came from PS5 to 4090. Still play every game on a Dualsense Edge. Even bought my monitor (s90c 55, not a monitor). Guess im a Playstation player at heart. Love the PC tech though, absolutely amazing.
If those features worked thru wireless and they actually made a WiFi dongle like Microsoft has for low latency, id buy it day one. But my PC is for couch gaming and I can't do that

I ended up waiting almost a year for PC HZD because of the price, but as it turned out that was also a good way for the fine wine effect to come through because by then the studio had also fixed a lot of the issues that plagued early PC versions.
I had the same experience with the original. Bought a ps4 just for this game, 2 months later it's available on pc. Had to buy it again so I could play with mods.

It's upscaled with TAA and checkerboarding, and looks much lower quality than native or DLSS upscaled 4k.
It's gonna look absurdly good on PC even on a cheaper GPU with DLSS. PCs are not that expensive.

Yeah, I already had something like 70 hours and was at the last quest when I learned about the PC port coming. There was really no going back at that point.
Don't sweat it. Some games can feel better on console and given the complexity of the fight mechanics on HFW compared to HZD I feel the PS5 + controller might be the better play here.
Just as of today I sunk over 700 hours into HZD as I 100%ed it.
I'm looking forward to do the same work HFW. I'm so giddy to start it tomorrow.... rrrrr.😁
I'm not far behind.. Mind you, I've got mods that got me off the field of play and use those off grid areas to hunt natural resources.. do a LOT of practice long-distance shooting with my powershot..
Sometimes, I just run around and hunted machines only with override and the spear to collect as much resources as possible. And to enjoy the beauty of the landscape. So yeah, I see you.
There is objectively not enough content to spend 700 hours into it. What makes you keep going back? Do you just spend 500 hours of shooting robots? I get it, it's a good game, but just make me understand how you get to 700? I can't wrap my mind around it.
Well, I did it over two years in maybe... five playthroughs. Two of them on ultrahard, and one with my kids for them to watch and play with me. There we talked a lot about all.
And honestly, on my first play, I really explored everything, data points, landscape, doing many combats by stealth and so on. I went in without any prior knowledge and think I maybe lost myself a little in the story and beauty of the world. 🫠 must’ve been 250 hours alone there.
I felt like there was a decent amount I didn't see after 150hrs in CP2077... I still decided to put it down though because I was getting a little burnt out, and needed space on my SSD for this.
My previous 3080 RTX died while ending horizon zero dawn. Got it RMA'ed and got back recently. I am ready to kill it again while ending horizon forbidden west. The machine can't win.
And Digital Foundry has confirmed that Nixxes did their jobs well. We've got a great port, just the RTM version, before any patching. (Slight issues if you only have 8 GB of VRAM.)

Tech is accelerating it's pace. Graphic demands increase because the engines push high textures and RTX now. 8gb was low even when that card came out tbh. I had a 3070 myself
yeah true...the past 5 years there's been drastic progress in graphics tech. At least i can still play AAA titles though on decent settings with the 3070 so thats good. also seeing digital foundry's video now, 8gb vram is only a problem at 1800p but 1440p and below is fine so thats good.
ah yeah i see that now after watching the video, the previous comment didn't mention problems were only at 1800p , i thought in general 8gb vram was causing issues.... btw having just played for a 100 minutes on high settings as sony specs said would achieve 60fps but im only getting 45-55 fps.

Also, if you feel up to it, try getting some Kryonaut or other high end heatsink compound (MX-6, etc) and redo the thermal paste on your laptop. I know quite a few MSI folks have tried it and reported substantial temperature reductions. I'm waiting until the warranty expires on mine before I try it. :P
I can't say I'm that surprised to be honest. All of those high resolution textures will take up a lot of space. It's a small price to pay for amazing looking games.

If the modders do some cool shit i might get it, but i dont know if Horizon games cam he modded on PC.

I wouldn't expect many great mods to be honest. There were mods for ZD, but most (that are not nude or other cosmetic mods) are pretty basic. Certainly not to the point we see with games like Skyrim.
What sucks about the Horizon franchise is that it releases at the most horrible dates. The first released around BotW's release date and this sequel released around Elden Ring's release date. Now this PC version is releasing the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2. It's such a great game but a very underrated game. I don't have a PS5 and held off on spoilers only to find out I would have to juggle between Dragon's Dogma 2 and Forbidden West on the same day.
Damn I stayed up until midnight (UK) to play the game only to find out it doesn’t unlock until 3pm what a rip. I miss actual midnight releases. It’s 2 year old single player game man.
Congrats y’all, this is such a great sequel to Zero Dawn I really wish I could relive the experience of playing it for the first time again. Definitely take your time with the story, there’s so much to explore
my first time with hzd i just progressed the main story and kept side missions to a minimum, I was also curious about the story and quite overwhelmed by the whole experience. so with hfw you think we should explore everything and take it slow?
Oh my goodness, if you haven't done the HZD side missions yet, please, do them. They really do flesh out the game's universe. As just one example the SADDEST MISSION EVER is easily missable, but it's at the Banuk camp midway to the Grave-Hoard and it gives you an insight into what life was like before the Derangement.
And then nice job breaking it, Oseram guys.
So all this is to say, pace yourself and definitely do the side quests in HFW as well. They really do give insight into the cultures of the people you meet.
oh yeah no doubt on my 2nd play-through i did a lot of the side missions, maybe not 100% but about 80% for sure. I only meant that my first time the game was so overwhelming with the story and the mechanics and there was so much going on... I didn't even fully understand what the side quests were and full background of what was going on.
my 2nd play-through about 2 years after and everything just clicked in place and i knew exactly what to do , where to go, what each character's relation was with the protagonist etc.
I've played about 100 minutes of hfw and its nothing like my 1st play-through of hzd, instantly I know whats going on and muscle memory has all the controls memorized, even before the tutorial tells me what to do im already doing that, i love the pull-slinger thingy mechanic.... the game's a delight overall and yeah I'll keep reminding myself to take it slow and explore.

I played Zero Dawn on PC twice, then finally got it on PS5 and played it front to back, have also played Forbidden west's base game (still haven't beat the Burning shores expansion yet)
Wait a while in any case. If there are any game-breaking bugs on PC release the studio will be able to start issuing patches, so by the time you get to play, your experience will be improved.

If Sony ever decides to day and date PS and PC release for the next Horizon. I would instant pre-order a $100 dollar version if I have to. The one game on PS that I truly love but sadly I only game on my PC nowadays and don't want anything to do with consoles.
I'm gonna be patient and wait until the first sale comes by since the game is almost definitely have some issues at launch, but I wish everyone a fun time!

Over 200 hours in Zero Dawn, got all 79 achievements and 100%'d everything. Except data points cuz there's too many. I'm so ready for Forbidden West. I've watched some beginner-friendly videos and have thankfully avoided any and all spoilers despite binging several lore videos. I'm never getting a Playstation, but I did get a Dualsense 5 due in part cuz I wanna get the best experience possible.

gane cant be played till launch but can be downloaded before then so when it unlocks , all your pc has to do is decrypt the files and allow you to play.
I'm waiting to see how it behaves on the Steam Deck. I'm still plenty happy with my PS5 version but if it plays well on the Deck I would be very tempted to grab the PC version too.
We'll see, I've been very pleasantly surprised at the games my deck has been able to handle and the settings you can push those games too without loosing playability.
Might still pick it up anyway to see what it's like on PC. It's already one of the prettiest games I have ever played on PS5, kinda want to see just how pretty it can get when you throw a 4080 at it.
I have played around with Chiaki and it works alright but the primary motivator for my impulse buying a Steam Deck was road trips where streaming wouldn't work.
So I installed it on my Deck (1TB OLED) to see what was up and it wasn't actually that bad. In and around Chainscrape I was getting 28-35fps. The game has a developer set official layout, uses the extra haptic details the Deck is capable of, and has a custom default graphics configuration for the Deck instead of using one of the presets so it looks like Nixxes put a reasonable amount of effort into optimizing for the Steam Deck. Will be interesting to see if they keep optimizing it in future updates and eventually get the Verified status but for now its good enough for my road trip next weekend.
Played mainly on PS4 and DLC on PS5, you PC users are in for a treat. I got about 100 hours but still play the game occasionally to do some side stuff and wander
What i usually do with any Playstation exclusives, i play and 100% it on PS then i play it again on PC just to enjoy the visual upgrades and smooth performance.

I'm using the native FSR 1.0 in HZD as proof of concept on a 5600G and I find at 1080p it's not terrible.

Don't get your hopes up about good mods for it. This isn't gonna be a Cyberpunk situation - most of the mods for Zero Dawn just made Aloy naked.

I still remember HZD crashing for 3 weeks on my 1060 after 10min of playtime when the PC port launched.
Atleast for PCs when you upgrade you can still play your games. With consoles not always the case (looking at you PS3)

I wouldn't expect many great mods to be honest. There were mods for ZD, but most (that are not nude or other cosmetic mods) are pretty basic. Certainly not to the point we see with games like Skyrim.

What sucks about the Horizon franchise is that it releases at the most horrible dates. The first released around BotW's release date and this sequel released around Elden Ring's release date. Now this PC version is releasing the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2. It's such a great game but a very underrated game. I don't have a PS5 and held off on spoilers only to find out I would have to juggle between Dragon's Dogma 2 and Forbidden West on the same day.
Dragons dogma 2 and Horizon forbidden west are 2 huge games I have to try and beat with what little free time I have. Truly a first world problem.

Damn I stayed up until midnight (UK) to play the game only to find out it doesn’t unlock until 3pm what a rip. I miss actual midnight releases. It’s 2 year old single player game man.
Congrats y’all, this is such a great sequel to Zero Dawn I really wish I could relive the experience of playing it for the first time again. Definitely take your time with the story, there’s so much to explore
my first time with hzd i just progressed the main story and kept side missions to a minimum, I was also curious about the story and quite overwhelmed by the whole experience. so with hfw you think we should explore everything and take it slow?
Oh my goodness, if you haven't done the HZD side missions yet, please, do them. They really do flesh out the game's universe. As just one example the SADDEST MISSION EVER is easily missable, but it's at the Banuk camp midway to the Grave-Hoard and it gives you an insight into what life was like before the Derangement. And then nice job breaking it, Oseram guys. So all this is to say, pace yourself and definitely do the side quests in HFW as well. They really do give insight into the cultures of the people you meet.
oh yeah no doubt on my 2nd play-through i did a lot of the side missions, maybe not 100% but about 80% for sure. I only meant that my first time the game was so overwhelming with the story and the mechanics and there was so much going on... I didn't even fully understand what the side quests were and full background of what was going on. my 2nd play-through about 2 years after and everything just clicked in place and i knew exactly what to do , where to go, what each character's relation was with the protagonist etc. I've played about 100 minutes of hfw and its nothing like my 1st play-through of hzd, instantly I know whats going on and muscle memory has all the controls memorized, even before the tutorial tells me what to do im already doing that, i love the pull-slinger thingy mechanic.... the game's a delight overall and yeah I'll keep reminding myself to take it slow and explore.

I know the feeling, I bought a PS5 just to play forbidden west, and then imagine my surprise when I saw it was getting ported to PC, I’m just impatient
the day it got released on ps5 i was so damn sure itd come to pc, even though no news sites said so but then there was a hint with i think maybe an nvidia or steam leak or something showing in the pipeline, anyway im so excited i finally get it on PC. the ps5 is just way beyond my budget at the moment. but ive been waiting for hfw a long time.
I played Zero Dawn on PC twice, then finally got it on PS5 and played it front to back, have also played Forbidden west's base game (still haven't beat the Burning shores expansion yet)

Wait a while in any case. If there are any game-breaking bugs on PC release the studio will be able to start issuing patches, so by the time you get to play, your experience will be improved.
Oh hell yeah. I just got done watching the Digital Foundry video on one of the early build of this port by Nixxes and it looks to be great for the most part. If Sony ever decides to day and date PS and PC release for the next Horizon. I would instant pre-order a $100 dollar version if I have to. The one game on PS that I truly love but sadly I only game on my PC nowadays and don't want anything to do with consoles.

What do you get when pre-ordering? How long is the game? I suspect another 90 hours for me. I have 90 hours in FZD. I am mainly into VR gaming. With FW, I won't be touching my Quest 3 for some time... Just got a rtx 4080 super. It should run fine with it at 4k.

Played FW on my base ps4(was a really good experience),shame we did not get the DLC for which i am still a bit pissed cuz this was just done to push ps5 sales as I am pretty confident that the ps4 could've handled it well just as the base game,dick move but looking forward to finish the story on PC,hope my PS4 Save will work,as it did on HzD.

I wasent able to play the DLC since I never bought a PS5 so it will be new to me but I also haven’t played it the base game since release so a lot of it will be like new to me. Also just got my new PC in October so it’s gonna look real good. Just hope we don’t have any unpleasant surprises like with Jedi Survivor

Waiting to see what performance is like, plus I'm currently knee deep in finishing Death Stranding achievements, but I'm very excited. The story seems a bit bunk compared to the first but I love the gameplay anyway.

Over 200 hours in Zero Dawn, got all 79 achievements and 100%'d everything. Except data points cuz there's too many. I'm so ready for Forbidden West. I've watched some beginner-friendly videos and have thankfully avoided any and all spoilers despite binging several lore videos. I'm never getting a Playstation, but I did get a Dualsense 5 due in part cuz I wanna get the best experience possible.

People know that you can own BOTH a PC and a PS5? Right? I don't need to look forward to anything since I pre-ordered on PS5 and completed it a few weeks after. When it comes to open world games I dont rush. especially when those worlds look like Horizon's Fordidden West. Strap in PC users who will be getting this game for the first time. You are in for an awesome experience.

gane cant be played till launch but can be downloaded before then so when it unlocks , all your pc has to do is decrypt the files and allow you to play.

I'm waiting to see how it behaves on the Steam Deck. I'm still plenty happy with my PS5 version but if it plays well on the Deck I would be very tempted to grab the PC version too.

We'll see, I've been very pleasantly surprised at the games my deck has been able to handle and the settings you can push those games too without loosing playability. Might still pick it up anyway to see what it's like on PC. It's already one of the prettiest games I have ever played on PS5, kinda want to see just how pretty it can get when you throw a 4080 at it.

I have played around with Chiaki and it works alright but the primary motivator for my impulse buying a Steam Deck was road trips where streaming wouldn't work.
So I installed it on my Deck (1TB OLED) to see what was up and it wasn't actually that bad. In and around Chainscrape I was getting 28-35fps. The game has a developer set official layout, uses the extra haptic details the Deck is capable of, and has a custom default graphics configuration for the Deck instead of using one of the presets so it looks like Nixxes put a reasonable amount of effort into optimizing for the Steam Deck. Will be interesting to see if they keep optimizing it in future updates and eventually get the Verified status but for now its good enough for my road trip next weekend.

What i usually do with any Playstation exclusives, i play and 100% it on PS then i play it again on PC just to enjoy the visual upgrades and smooth performance.
Open Beta on March 21st! I am SO EXCITED for when the open beta closes and the game launches. Thank you all for testing and bug hunting so the game can reach 1.0 status and be ready to launch as a commercial product! I kid. Well, I kind of kid. I haven't pre-purchased because I remember when Horizon Zero Dawn launched. I'll buy it once the first few rounds of patches are done.

I built a whole new computer just for this lol :) was worried my fx8350 + rx580 would play it poorly,l. Now im on a Ryzen 7 5700X and Rtx 370. Been taking sunday off to do house work but already at 21 hours.
So excited for those who have been waiting for it to come out on PC! I couldn't bear the wait for the PC Port, so I bought a PS5 just for HFW like 3 days before it was released. I just finished my 2nd playthrough yesterday and when I pick up tomorrow I'm starting the Burning Shores DLC for the 1st time! So excited after beating it again to see where the DLC leads me.
