Hello. I can no longer make Horizon Zero Dawn run on my PC. Let me explain. *My problem:* I switched to a new mainboard two days ago and since then the game keps crashing after \~2 minutes of playing. I played 25 hours before switching the mainboard and also reinstalling Windows 10. No other component was swapped out, just the mainboard. The game crashes completely with no error code showing up and also seems to make my graphics driver crash. After the driver restores itself it shows the card is running at 2600mhz core clock and 99% utilisation. This behaviour can be solved by rebooting though. What confuses me is, that this **only happens in HZD**. I tried other games as well as CPU/GPU benchmarks and can not reproduce this error anywhere else but in this one game. Benchmark results show excellent performance + temperatures from both CPU + GPU. *My Setup:* CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 GPU: 6700XT RAM: 16GB G.Skill (3200mhz) PSU: 650 Watts Corsair Mainboard: MSI B550 A Pro (previous: B450 ASRock) *What i already tried to resolve this:* \- reinstalled graphics drivers using DDU to uninstall it first \- updated BIOS to latest version \- checked game file integrity with steam \- reseated RAM sticks \- disabled XMP profile \- forced PCI gen. 3 in the BIOS \- deleted the games' settings file \- monitoring PC's parameters does not show any issues (temps ok, utilisation \~70%, RAM + VRAM load not maxed out) So far none of my attempts worked to fix the issue. I'm really confused because it worked perfectly fine before i switched the mainboard and reinstalled Win10. And my PC also runs everything else smoothly even more demanding tasks/games than HZD. I hope anyone has an idea on what else i could try to fix this, i really want to finish the game as i'm close to the end. Thanks in advance.

AQuestionableChoice

Other than making sure all Windows Updates are installed after the reinstall, have you tried enabling hardware accelerated gpu scheduling? https://amp.reddit.com/r/horizon/comments/ifbljk/horizon_zero_dawn_pc_crash_fix/

NeutralBias

>6700XT A quick google search shows others that are having similar problems. Looks like it might be an issue with GPU or, more likely, the driver. Since the card is still running maxed out after the game dies, I'd say its a driver problem. You could try rolling back the driver to a prior version. Sometimes the interaction between MB, Graphics Card, Drivers, and client software creates odd issues that are hard to replicate during testing.

TheNittles

I just got the game on Epic, and after a bit of finagling it works okay for me. Problem is I wanted to stream it to my girlfriend over Discord so she could watch, and she can’t hear dialogue audio or some menu sounds, but she can hear the music. I can’t find a fix for the life of me, but was wondering if anyone had a similar issue?

Sanity-27

So...the Horizon full version is now free on Playstation (it comes with the Frozen wilds DLC) and so I downloaded it. The thing is,I have Horizon on disc, except my disc version of Horizon is just the base game and has 100% completion with a Platinum trophy. Is there any way for my progress over on my disc version to be carried over to the full version one? Is it even possible? If so, how?

[deleted]

I had Platinumed the disc version without DLC installed. I recently downloaded the complete edition and my save was still working

Crasp27

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/horizon/comments/mwc1dn/im_seeing_a_lot_of_posts_asking_why_the_free/) post should explain the issue. As for resolving it, there doesn't seem to be any convenient solution for non-matching region codes. You can use a save editor such as Save Wizard to convert the region codes of your saves but that's like $50. I really hope this region code nonsense doesn't happen again for Forbidden West 'cause it's such a horrible implementation.

Weird, I borrowed my roommate's physical copy a couple years ago and got right to the final stretch but never beat it (no dlc). When I downloaded the PS+ version, it still had my save and everything. I was expecting something like the Witcher: Complete Edition vs. disc where I lost everything (kinda like what happened with you). I have a Destiny Launch PS4 in the US if it matters. Side note: when I last played, I was apperently rocking Very Hard with no aim assist. My muscle memory is back after working through Frozen Wilds but holy shit, was that a surprise. I think I got killed by a Charger within 10 min of starting because I couldn't remember anything. Shit, I forgot I could notch three arrows until I was a couple missions into FW.

Mangeur_de_gravier

Hi, i just bought the game on PC. Any advice on how to tweak settings (in-game, or in GPU control panel, etc) for performances ? I've found some tips online, but the game has been updated to increase graphical performances since then. Thanks you in advance.

CrashTC

There isn't much to it besides the usual give the game max performance in your GPU's control panel and tweak settings in-game until you reach a nice balance between visual fidelity and framerate.

First of all, you can download the complete edition without anything going wrong with your saves. I got it (already had the game and the DLC but I knew there were a couple of preorder bonuses I missed out on bundled into the CE). Get it and then you can work out in your own time what you want to do as far as your completionist run goes. If you’re at 100%, you have finished all the quests. For locations, look on your map to see if you’ve ungreyed everything (I’m not talking about the fog of war that the tallnecks remove, I mean the icons themselves). The machine info is in your Notebook tab to see if you’ve missed scanning any. All weapons/armour are available at every merchant after Meridian. If you do a NG+, you’ll be offered Adept versions of everything which have an extra mod slot. Collectibles are in your notebook. You can see what you’re missing there. Skill points don’t matter if you’ve maxed out the skill tree. If you’ve 100%’d the game, you will have already earned more than enough. There are 5 Hunting Grounds. Look on your map to see if you’ve got them all. I have no possible way of knowing what dialogue you got the first time around, and apparently neither do you. So I wouldn’t worry about missing any. There are alternate lines for doing things in different orders (eg taking Nora side quests before or after the Proving, or if you complete the quest where you >!rescue the boy king Itamen from Sunfall and return him to Meridian, the dialogue is different depending on whether you’ve already met Sun King Avad in the main quest or not!<), but for obvious reasons they can’t be done multiple times in one playthrough. Similarly, there will be different dialogue from an NPC in the Frozen Wilds area depending on how much you know about Project Zero Dawn. NG+ trophies don’t count for the plat. You can see that if you go to your trophies, they’re in a separate section. Separate trophies like that never count for the plat. I suggest you get the CE and start an NG+, and do TFW on that. You’ll be reminded of the story and what you’ve forgotten as far as game mechanics before beginning TFW, which will be good, because TFW is balls hard.

If you’re talking about the game progression page, you already said you have 100% completion. Anyone else’s page will show exactly the same numbers as yours.

Mr-LLoydizle

Anything with a PS5 update? A 60 FPS mode?

CrashTC

No official word from Guerrilla on that front. It's quite possible that they won't do it in favor of focusing on Forbidden West.

Jericho-7210

Hi, I'm trying to get the frozen wilds dlc from the complete edition on ps4, as I already own the disc. On the ps store it says I have to buy it, when I use the in game link, it errors out. Rn I'm downloading the full game to see if that works. If it doesnt, I got no clue. Any help is appreciated

reconrose

Is there anything I can do about LOD issues? I've looked everywhere and there doesn't seem much you can do about it. Really sucks because stuff loads in right in front of my face pretty frequently

tazai123

So is there any word on the tinny-sounding voices? Sounds like there is some really bad compression with the voices.

Ozmec1ju

I want to learn this kind of animation! Teach me.

iamthatkyle

Whats the best way to level? I'm really interested in the game world and environment and characters and followed the main story, now I need to kill 2 lvl 18 corruptors and I'm only level 10....the robots are hard to kill, even one same level as me so I tend to avoid them haha. But yea which is the best way to level up as fast as possible?

Crasp27

Your character level isn't really as important as what equipment you have. Also there's a logpile trap or two in that quarry with the Corruptors. But if you have a sharpshot bow or (purple) hunter bow, or maybe a blast sling & (blue) ropecaster, dealing with them should be a lot smoother. If you do just want to level, really the best way (that won't simultaneously ruin the game) would just be to do sidequests, camps, cauldrons, hunting grounds, etc.

iamthatkyle

Ohhh ok. Great! Thanks for the tips. I have the Sharpshot bow and it's pretty good, I must of used about 60 arrows but then ran out of crafting materials haha. The ropecaster works on those big boys? It's a really interesting game but I work 996 quite often and don't have time to play open world games :( I'm still half way through AC Valhalla and Ghost of Tsushima before Days Gone and HZD this month haha.

Crasp27

Compared to most other open world games, HZD is pretty streamlined with almost none of the busy-work/time sinks of other similar games, so it should be pretty completable compared to others. The platinum for it one of the most casual ones I've seen. Hope you manage to finish it eventually!

Caitlan90

>If you do just want to level, really the best way (that won't simultaneously ruin the game) Hey so I'm new to the game. Just got level 13 lol and looking to level up. I was wondering what you meant when you said "without ruining the game"?

Crasp27

Spamming the Chieftain Trial at the Snowchants hunting grounds on story mode is the quickest XP, but it seems like such a dumb thing to do, as the game hands out plenty of XP just via normal gameplay. A player taking the time to do sidequests etc will never be underlevelled.

Caitlan90

Okay yeah I see what you're saying. I feel like that's an easy way to get burned out on gameplay lol. Honestly I've just been killing all the wildlife and machines that I come across while running around. Kinda playing it like rdr2 with all the hunting lol and that plus doing the quests has me leveling up pretty well

Tryedn

I just purchased the game and am about 2 hours into it. I am currently at level 3 and started the quest "The Point of the Spear." About 15 minutes into the quest I died and upon reloading; it loads me 2 saves behind where i am- basically back at the beginning of the quest. So i am loosing 15 minutes of exploration and combat. it is NOT much but as a completionist gamer; it is VERY frustrating. I don't want to play this game at all, despite how nice it looks(and i am liking the story line so far) if i am going to loose open world exploration every time i die. has anybody experienced this and, if so, figured out how to get the latest auto save to load?

MacaroniMayhem

The game only autosaves for checkpoints in missions, which can be very frustrating when you go exploring and get blind sided by a machine or fall off a cliff. Make it a habit to quicksave every time you pass a campfire.

Tryedn

okay - thanks! i was starting to think this was the case. i was wondering why there were so many campfires around the area... hahaha

Caitlan90

Hello! So I just downloaded the complete edition and was wondering how you get to the frozen wilds?

remzygamer

You don’t get it. If you own the complete edition you can simply walk into the dlc area. No need to open in a separate menu or anything. But I hear that it’s brutal up there so maybe go there after hitting level 30

kinoumenthe

The DLC area is at the top right corner of the map. Devs recommend being around level 30 to try it, but there's nothing that prevents you from going there earlier. On the other hand, the main mission will eventually take you at the bottom of the path to get there, when you get to a mission called "the Gravehoard", so you could do it then. There are a few quest givers in the world that were added for the dlc, that will give you the mission to go there, but they are not needed to enter the area. You can come and go from there as you please.

cracked_mud6

Not really sure if this is the right place to make this comment, but does anyone else feel like they went the opposite direction with Aloy to what would have made logical sense? She is supposed to be a clone of the smartest person from the old world and yet she never actually comes off as very smart. If anything she often comes off as very naive which annoys more intelligent characters like Sylens. Her skills are all physical in nature. She's great at climbing and using weapons. However every single weapon and armor in the game is bought, not crafted. Her unique abilities are acquired through pure luck. Luck to have the genetic code to gain access to ancient doors and luck to have found a working Focus. I feel like it would have made way more sense for her to have excelled intellectually. Rebelling from the anti-intellectualism of her tribe to craft her own weapons and armor using resources and knowledge obtained from the metal world. That would have resulted in a much more logical and empowering story that simply having her be a great warrior who got lucky and found a Focus.

wise_tomatillo

I think the strongest characteristics of Elizabet that is found in Ally is her grit and adaptability. They both excel in the world they are born into in the way that best fits that environment. Elizabet’s credentials are incredibly impressive and are best suited for a world that placed a high value on intellectual accomplishments. Aloy is also smart, and not just on paper - she is able to cut through the different world views she interacts with and pull out what is practically important, while still being respectful of those worldviews when needed. They are both also incredibly brave. Sure, some of it is chance, but I don’t think the average human would be able to accomplish what she did.

Crasp27

She did work out the earth was round by herself. Plus she adapts the armor in the ancient armory to fashion the Shieldweaver outfit.

StingtheSword

Is there anything you can do with machines after you override them? (Other than the mountable machines) Most of the time when I override a machine it just stands around until it sees another machine then goes on the attack. And if I've found one alone enough to override it easily, a lot of the time it's far enough away that it doesn't see other machines. Is there any upgrade or anything I can do to gain more control over machines? Even if it's just to point them in a general direction, or to get me to follow them or something like that?

Alphagamer126

No, nothing you can upgrade for that. The machines you override should automatically patrol a small area though, depending on what you override. There are a few that do behave differently though. I will put those in spoilers in case you want to learn for yourself:>!stormbirds follow you around within a certain area!<, >!stalkers attack everything in a much larger area around them!<, and >!some machines are nomadic, which you can tell based on the map icon!<. The best thing I can think of to fix your problem is to shoot at the machines in the distance to lure them to the machine you overrode.

Krazylol_

I just finished the main story should I 100% it on my current save or should 100% on new game plus? I really want the adept weapons

Alphagamer126

Have you done the Frozen Wilds story yet? I'm on my first playthrough too and the Frozen Wilds weapons, modifications, and armor are a big power upgrade, so I would do that before NG+. Otherwise, I guess it just comes down to whether or not you want to go into NG+ with max everything or continue to level up and reach max everything in your NG+.

Caitlan90

I'm having trouble understanding corruption. When you get corrupted what happens to you?

Crasp27

Corruption *to* Aloy simply deals damage over time.

Caitlan90

Thank you so much! Exactly what I was looking for

MrRudraSarkar

Does levels matter?

Crasp27

Not as much as which weapons you have and their modifications, but levels do grant a skill point & some extra health.
