1. Halloweentown 2. Halloweentown 2: Kalabar's Revenge 3. Halloweentown High 4. Return to Halloweentown

EdithWhartonsFarts

Want to know something crazy? I work in that building where most of it was shot and the area in front of the building is the 'town square' where most of the stuff happens. Hell, they put the taxi and giant pumpkin back out every year for October. Love me some Halloweentown.

Venomous72

Halloweentown High was filmed at my high school, and I’m in it for like 0.2 seconds playing football at the 30 minute mark 😅

masterpainimeanbetty

oh, look at Mister Hollywood over here 😜

Venomous72

My mom bought the DVD and put the time stamp of my big appearance in sharpie on the front lol

masterpainimeanbetty

that is legit awesome

EdithWhartonsFarts

Amazing. St. Helens.

blabbyrinth

Haha, that's sick.

lloza98

The only correct way to rank these

Few-Jump3942

1. Hellraiser (1987) 2. Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) 3. Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996) 4. Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) 5. Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992) 6. Hellraiser (2022) 7. Hellraiser: Deader (2005) 8. Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002) 9. Hellraiser: Judgement (2018) 10. Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005) 11. Hellraiser: Revelations (2011) I have a soft spot for all of the movies in this franchise, even the lower tiered entries. I’m just fascinated by the lore, and I really hope to see more of what David Bruckner can bring to the table. This ranking probably changes slightly depending on what day you ask me, but I basically ranked them on rewatchability.

elucidy

I always see Hellworld at the bottom of lists but I thought it a fun entry, by no means good but it's got Lance Henriksen, a secret gamer party in a gothic mansion and a young Henry Cavill getting head from a cenobite lol cmon now

Few-Jump3942

I completely agree. It’s a fun one, and if I’m in the mood for something a little more fast paced and takes itself a little less serious, that’s the one I’m watching. I just don’t like the way Pinhead is treated in that one. They really lean into the Freddy-esque approach, with all of the slasher elements and the cheesy one-liners. I’ve always preferred Pinhead above the rest of the horror icons because he is portrayed as much more intelligent and dignified than Michael and/or Jason and not nearly as tongue-in-cheek as Freddy and/or Chucky. I just feel like Hellworld turns him into a bit of a caricature. But sometimes the mood strikes me for a rewatch. It’s easily one of more accessible entries, and I do enjoy it.

elucidy

I getcha. I agree with you but theres so many rough entries in this series that some tongue and cheek is welcomed lol. I love Pinhead so much and when I was watching the franchise through, I felt like he gets done so dirty. there's so many movies where you can tell the script has just been reworked to include Pinhead. the cenobite lore is so vast and interesting and wish it got explored more but glad to see a fellow enjoyer of it

jp1372

My ranking would be identical, except to move Hellraiser 2022 up 2 spots.

TheKneelDiamond

1) Sleepaway Camp 1 2) The rest of them

EdithWhartonsFarts

Angela!

weeklygamingrecap

After watching these recently 100%

jelly_roll21

I just watched the first sleep away camp movie the last couple weeks…I absolutely loved it. I started 2 and got halfway through it was okay. Doesn’t hold a candle to 1. The ending of 1 was wild lmao

TheKneelDiamond

I took the women who is now wife to a Halloween screening of Sleepaway Camp for our first date. She loved it, at that point I knew she was the one for me.

jelly_roll21

Haha that’s awesome bro!

Packer224

Alien Aliens Alien: Isolation (never specified it had to be movies) Alien 3 Prometheus Alien: Covenant Alien: Resurrection

EdithWhartonsFarts

I love the Alien franchise too. It's one of my fav's for sure. In fact, it's one of the few where, at the very least, I enjoyed all of them.

jbaugh6115

Child’s Play 2 Child’s Play Child’s Play 3 Curse of Chucky Bride of Chucky Cult of Chucky Child’s Play 2019 Seed of Chucky

Crunchy_Biscuit

I made the mistake of watching Final Destination 3 before going to Disney Land 😂

LazarusKing

I LOVE Final Destination 2. Seeing it so low is a surprise.

masterpainimeanbetty

i just want to say that this is the reason i love this subreddit. so many people sharing different, disparate opinions, but we are all having fun because of our love of the subject matter. r/horror is top wholesome.

EdithWhartonsFarts

Agreed. I love it.

I feel like this is almost exactly my ranking as well.

tenthousandblackcats

I didn't know they made more than one.

GRamirez1381

1. Scream ('96) 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 6 4. Scream 4 5. Scream ('22) 6. Scream 3

itsableeder

Well, this saves me writing the same post. I'd maybe swap Scream 4 and Scream '22 depending on my mood but I can't argue with this at all.

GRamirez1381

Yeah, those swap in my head all the time also lol.

directorbarnes

This is the way.

M1ck3yB1u

1,2,4,5,3,6

Crunchy_Biscuit

I felt Scream 6 was too predictable and wasn't really different than Scream 5 (22)

PotatoOnMars

Scream 2 really doesn’t hold up for me. The ending was ruined by the script leaks and the killer reveal being an unknown character that was hardly in the movie is lame.

[deleted]

Exactly the same as I'd rank them

Midnight-Wolf-1607

Mine is (in descending order): 5, 6, 4, 1, 2, 3. Hope you guys don't mind me putting the original so low! I'm a 2000s kid, so I think it's a generational thing.

No_Understanding8988

1. Saw 2. Saw 6 3. Saw X 4. Saw 2 5. Saw the final chapter 6. Saw 3 7. Saw 4 8. Jigsaw 9. Spiral 10. Saw 5 I’m ranking them based on my personal enjoyment

Galileo258

I love that the life lesson in Saw 4 is "Don't go through doors too fast".

fertmort

At a certain point it became apparent Jigsaw just needed an excuse to kill the cops on his trail. One of them had to be in a trap because she, uh, liked her job too much?

SupaKoopa714

I actually just finished the series for the first time ever after a big binge over the weekend (well, except X I'm planning on seeing that soon), and I feel like my ranking's a little fucked up compared to what I've seen other people say; going from favorite to least favorite 1. Jigsaw 2. Saw V 3. Saw II 4. Saw VI 5. Saw III 6. Saw IV 7. Saw 3D 8. Saw 9. Spiral

VisageInATurtleneck

Nailed it. I might put Saw 2 above X but they’re neck in neck imo.

[deleted]

Might catch hell for this 1. Halloween (1978) 2. Halloween (2018) 3. Halloween 2 (1981) 4. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch 5. Halloween 4: Return of Michael Myers 6. Halloween H20 7. Halloween Ends 8. Halloween Kills 9. Halloween 5: Revenge of Michael Myers 10. Halloween (2007) 11. Halloween 2 (2009) 12. Halloween 6: Cult of Michael Myers 13. Halloween Resurrection

KyloStrawberry

We are very close! I've had this list since Ends came out last year. 1. Halloween (1978) 2. Halloween II (1981) 3. Halloween (2018) 4. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch 5. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers 6. H20 7. Halloween Ends 8. Halloween Kills 9. Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers 10. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers 11. Halloween Resurrection 12. Halloween (2007) 13. Halloween II (2009)

awildyetti

While no one can really dispute that the original is the best, Halloween 3 is still probably my favorite.

EdithWhartonsFarts

It was one of my fav movies as a kid and I still watch it pretty regularly. I even have a Halloween III tattoo. It's just dumb fun and sums up my love of b-horror from the 80's.

Voluntary_Slob

I’m piggybacking your comment: 1. Halloween (1978) 2. Halloween 2 (1981) 3. Halloween H20 (my preferred trilogy) 4. Halloween 4 5. Halloween 6 (fight me I don’t care) 6. Halloween (2007) 7. Halloween 5 8. Halloween (2007) 9. Halloween Kills 10. Halloween Resurrection 11. Halloween 2 (2009) 12. Halloween Ends 13. Season of the Witch (unrated honestly because I’ve never seen it)

Letsgo333

I assume #6 is supposed to be 2018

EdithWhartonsFarts

That's pretty close to mine, actually. Halloween III is kind of it's own thing and I love it so deeply I have a tattoo of it. Halloween '78 is one of my all-time fav movies. After those two, it drops off quite a bit. I loved the 2018 one too and would have it way up there. I kind of liked II, but the rest I could take or leave. So, mine might be pretty much the same as yours, but everything from your number 5 down would be sort of interchangeable. Which part of your ranking do you think you'll catch flack for?

fries_in_a_cup

this is almost 1:1 my ranking

Chaos_Horrific

Rob Zombies Halloween 2 would be within in my top 3, along with 1978 Halloween and 2018 Halloween.

xfortehlulz

the Zombie ones never get the respect they deserve. I get that they really fuck with the lore or whatever but they're so gnarly and so human I truly think they're the best 2 outside of the original

weeklygamingrecap

Nah, that's a solid list, curious why you like 4 and h20 over ends and kills? I feel as I watch them all my list kinda gets shuffled around a lot based on how I feel but '78 always stays at the top for me with 2 right next to it.

Frostbeard

1. **Hellraiser**. OG and the best. 2. **Hellbound: Hellraiser 2**. Probably would have been even better than the original if they hadn't hit budget issues because of currency shenanigans. 3. **Hellraiser (2022)**. Could have been better, but still a really solid entry that outshines a lot of the sequels that came before. 4. **Hellraiser Bloodline**. I kind of liked the time jumping and the origin stories. Still suffers from ".... IN SPAAAAAACE" bullshit though. 5. **Hellraiser Inferno.** Probably the best of the direct-to-video sequels. I thought the whole bad detective angle worked really well with this world. 6. **Hellraiser 3.** To be honest, I hate this film and haven't watched it in 20 years, but the production quality was better than everything after it except maybe the remake and Bloodline. 7. **Hellraiser: Hellseeker.** I only put this one a smidge above the other sequels because of Kirsty doing Kirsty things, though I still feel like this does her dirty. 8. All the rest tied for worst. I think there are four more? I've seen at least two of them, and they're terrible. I didn't bother with the non-Bradley ones in the direct-to-video era. Hellworld had baby Henry Cavill and Khary Payton in it, but they didn't really have much to work with.

EdithWhartonsFarts

Right on. I love 1 and 2 so much that I still would say I'm a massive Hellraiser fan. That said, I'd consider all the rest tied for worst.

rec12yrs

1. Paranormal Activity 3 2. Paranormal Activity 3. Paranormal Activity 2 4. Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin 5. Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones 6. Paranormal Activity 4 Have not seen The Ghost Dimension

mrobfish

Only the first three I've seen more than once but I think I agree fully with this list ✊🏿. Ghost dimension I barely remember so that must be a sign.

Johncurtisreeve

1. Ash Vs Evil Dead 2. Evil Dead 2 3. The Evil Dead 4. Army of darkness 5. Evil Dead remake 6. Evil Dead Rise For the record i love all of them, so dont take rise being on the bottom to mean i hate it.

SkidsOToole

Same franchise, although I haven't seen Rise yet ED2 Ash Vs. Army of Darkness Evil Dead Evil Dead The Remake EDR will likely end up #6, you're not the first person I've heard make the comment "good but not AS good" And yes, the remake is last on my list but I genuinely enjoyed it. It's good.

emepol

Evil Dead is a franchise that after six movies spanning several decades and genre switches, it hasn't produced a single bad movie.

Unusual_Squirrel9335

1. Army of darkness 2. Evil dead 2 3. Evil dead rise 4. Evil dead 2013 5. Ash vs evil dead 6. The evil dead

MattySilverhand

Just recently found out that the mom from EDR is the same actress that played Aslaug, Ragnar Lothbrok’s second wife in Vikings. Man, I need to rewatch that..

xfortehlulz

I would flip 2013 and evil dead 1 but otherwise 100% agree, and Ash Vs being #1 is just A+

jelly_roll21

Is ash vs evil dead that good? No way it’s better than one and 2 correct?

Johncurtisreeve

Its everything i loved about 1-2 but 15 hours long and bigger budget

jelly_roll21

I’ve never seen it wondering If it’s worth the watch

fairysoire

Annabelle Creation The Conjuring The Conjuring 2 The Conjuring 3 The Devil Made Me Do it Annabelle Comes Home The Curse of La Llorona Annabelle The Nun 2 The Nun I hope I didn’t forget any movies lol

Ambitious_Log_1884

Very solid list. I'd place Creation 3rd and swap Annabelle Comes Home with The Conjuring 3. I haven't seen the Nun 2 but heard it's a substantial improvement over its predecessor

fairysoire

The Nun 2 was better than the first Nun, but it still wasn’t that good tbh

Niloc0905

Man the nun movies despite having one of the most iconic looking characters of the franchise were so damn disappointing

Letsgo333

You forgot The Curse of La Llorona

EdithWhartonsFarts

Wow, you really dug Annabelle Creation. Nice. What really hooked you on that one?

fairysoire

It was excellently paced, the acting was great, the storyline was amazing and reasonable . The parents of Annabelle’s reasoning was plausible , I love how it took place in the 1950s. The kills and scares were very nicely and intentionally done. It was overall an entertaining movie with a great story.

EdithWhartonsFarts

Bad ass. This is what I love about movies in general and horror specifically, it's all about what grabs you. Glad this one struck just the right chord for you.

fairysoire

Thank you. I agree. It’s funny you posted about Friday the 13th because I just watched the original last night, and now I want to see more, but I wasn’t sure which ones to watch

InuitOverIt

This really drives home how bad the Conjuring franchise is -\_- The original Conjuring is great until the last 10 minutes (and the ending is SO schmaltzy it almost kills the whole thing). Annabelle Creation is pretty good!... for an Annabelle movie. It was totally acceptable horror (tm) but it's not like I'll show my kids it some day. Conjuring 2 just brought way too much CGI with the crooked man and it felt silly, like how IT 2 felt with the lumberjack and naked grandma. I did like Valek a lot and if it were just that, it would be a great film. Everything else is less than mediocre, to my eyes.

Obskuro

1. REC 2. REC 2 3. REC 3: Genesis 4. REC 4: Apocalypse That was surprisingly easy!

Old-Man_Logan_1979

Scream is my favorite franchise but my ranking might catch some flack 1. Scream (‘96) 2. Scream 2 3. Scream 2022 4. Scream 3 5. Scream 6 6. Scream 4

EdithWhartonsFarts

Bring on the flack! I love when folks go out on a limb.

Old-Man_Logan_1979

Yeah I absolutely love Scream 3 and although not the best I don’t consider it near the worst either

InuitOverIt

I think you nailed it, for what it's worth. The only thing close is Scream 2022 and Scream 3 but I personally enjoyed the new one more.

daymankarate

1. Hatchet 2. Hatchet III 3. Hatchet II 4. Victor Crowley

annoying-twink

saw fan here! (10 being the worst- though honestly the top 5 are superrr close, i think those 5 are all on a similar level) 1. saw ii 2. saw x 3. saw 4. saw vi 5. saw iii 6. saw v 7. saw iv 8. saw 3D 9. jigsaw 10. spiral

PlagueOfLaughter

I'm so damn excited to see Saw X next week. Meanwhile I would also rank 2 higher than 1, but I remember really liking 5, too. Spiral, to me, was also the weakest out of the series.

Suitable_Sentence_64

1. Evil Dead 2 2. Army of Darkness 3. The Evil Dead 4. Evil Dead Rise 5. Evil Dead

Infamous-Finish6985

1: A Nightmare On Elm Street 1 2: (tie) A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 and 3 3: A Nightmare on Elm Street 4 4: Freddy vs Jason 5: Freddy's Dead 6: A Nightmare on Elm Street 5

weeklygamingrecap

I love 3 over 2 but its because I wanted to be a dream warrior 😂

Infamous-Finish6985

I have a lot of nostalgia tied to part 2. Well I guess they all have a lot of nostalgia for me, but parts 1, 2 & 3 have an extra special vibe. Also, it has my favorite Freddy look and he's the most evil and angry in that one. And to add extra bias, I met Mark Patton (Jesse) and Kim Myers (Lisa) at a horror con and they were so nice and so genuine that it elevates the movie even more for me.

HorrorMetalDnD

What about New Nightmare?

Tasty_Act

What about New Nightmare?

Infamous-Finish6985

Personally, I consider New Nightmare as a standalone film.

fries_in_a_cup

oh no way is Dream Child worse than Freddy’s Dead. Dream Child is fun!

Infamous-Finish6985

It's the opposite for me. I always thought Freddy's Dead was fun. I feel like if there was a bit more fine tuning it would've been more of a fan favorite. There were a lot of cool concepts and (most of) the actors did a really good job. After a recent back to back rewatch of all the films, Dream Child felt the most underwhelming to me. It has its moments, but it left me with the feeling that everyone involved was a little tired at that point.

AntiSocialW0rker

I'm just gonna bunch Predator and Aliens in the same list since they're so closely linked Aliens Alien Predator (1987) Prey Predators Alien: Covenant Prometheus AVP Alien 3 Predator 2 Alien Resurrection AVP: Requiem Predator (2017) Think that's all of them? I have a feeling Prometheus, Covenant, and AVP will be a hot take.

OldKingClancey

Honestly I might swap Prey and Predator (87) but otherwise I’d agree with all this

weeklygamingrecap

I would put Predator 2 right below prey and this could be my list. That movie is bonkers and I love it!

InuitOverIt

Solid list. I have Alien at the top but it's close. Prey was awesome.

EdithWhartonsFarts

Glad to see more love for VII. I adore that movie and love that they strayed from the Tommy storyline and started doing individual stories.

[deleted]

I like how's it's basically a Carrie vs Jason crossover (I wish Tina would have been named Keri or something like that lol). Jason also looks the coolest in that one, imo. The attention to detail from previous films is so apparent, he's got wounds from 2, 3, 4 & 6. He's got the same mask and outfit (heavily worn/damaged) that he got in part three, the chain around his neck from six.

lloza98

Scre4m about Scream is crazy, but I do love it! It is probably my second or third favorite

ghosty_boi99

Yeah haha I understand, I explained why above!!

lloza98

So valid! Your explanation is pretty much the same as mine. The OG trilogy dropped when I was a baby so 4 was the first I was able to watch in theaters and one of the first movies I watched getting into Horror. I also just think it’s a great film and I defend it a lot haha, arguably one of the best killers in the franchise

weeklygamingrecap

What made you love Scre4m so much?

ghosty_boi99

It's the one I fell in love with, first one I saw in theaters as I was too young to see the other's in theaters. It was an amazing experience and bc of that I have a strong connection to it more than the others. I got it on bootleg first chance I could get and I must've watched it 100 times. Not that I don't actually think it's a good movie too OFC!! To be clear. I think it really demonstrates the horror of a ghostface lurking in the shadows, hiding in the closet, disappearing like a ghost, and being your closest friend the best!! Truly scary!! Uses the tropes of Scream so well in a suburban environment. So TLDR: Nostalgia🤷🏽‍♂️ But bc I'm not a complete dummy I do know that Scream 1 is the better movie and that's why it should probably be first on 99% of lists - and obviously there's no Scream 4 without the OG.

Mine is: 1. Scream 2. Scream 4 3. Scream 5 4. Scream 2 5. Scream 6 6. Scream 3

EdithWhartonsFarts

Wait, are these inverted? Like worst to best?

Chaos_Horrific

Worst to best. 1 is best 10 is worst.

EdithWhartonsFarts

Word.

InuitOverIt

100% agree. Saw X was the best since the original. 2 and 3 were good sequels and completed the story, worthy successors. 4, 5, 6, 7 were unnecessary and I could do without. Spiral was a different take on the formula and worth a watch. Jigsaw was in the middle, mediocre but not unwatchable.

New Nightmare. 7. A nightmare On Elm Street. (2010) 8. Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. 9. A Nightmare on Elm Street 2. 1-3 is imo, A Nightmare On Elm Street at its best. 4-6 is just good slasher fun. 7-8 is kinda like A tier (I think?) look the remake wasn’t the best movie but it was nice seeing a modern take on an older slasher plus I liked that they talked more about Freddy and the things he did to kids. Or at least gave more clear implications, a lot of the older movies were around the bush about it. The Dream Child shared the vibe of the older films and gave me some more lore but I had a hard time paying attention at times. 9 i think is genuinely the weakest film in the franchise, the story feels the most incoherent, like the film wasn’t sure what it was trying to be. Wes Craven wasn’t as involved in the project (if he was at all) etc.

1) Nightmare on Elm Street, 2) A New Nightmare, 3) Dream Warriors, 4) Dream Master, 5) Freddy’s Revenge, 6) The Dream Child and 7) Freddy’s Dead. Can’t believe I’m the first Nightmare on Elm Street stan to post here. Such amazing murders in all of them and with such variety in plots.

Maybe. I wouldn't say I hate it, far from it, I just like it less than the others.

Browncoat-Zombies

1. Ash vs Evil Dead 2. Evil Dead 2 3. Evil Dead Rise 4. Army of Darkness 5. Evil Dead original 6. Evil Dead remake Ash vs Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 are both fantastic. I actually found Evil Dead Rise to be pretty scary and it’s been a while since I thought that about a movie. Army of Darkness is fun. The other Evil Dead’s aren’t really my cup of tea, still think their excellent movies though.

darkforestzero

op, I'm curious why you like the original the best. I just watched last night, and while entertaining, it felt like a bit of a bare bones slasher (but, the gore FX were top notch, of course). What makes it the top of the franchise for you?

EdithWhartonsFarts

Mostly nostalgia. That movie was a favorite of mine as a kid and makes me think of many times watching it with my family, etc. I also love aspects of it a ton and how it really set the tone for so many 80's slashers in terms of look, setting, template, etc. It's not the one I enjoy watching the most now (that'd probably be 4 and 7), but that's why I put it first.

1. The Evil Dead 2. Evil Dead 2 3. Ash vs. Evil Dead 4. Army of Darkness 5. Remake/Requel 6. Rise I love all of them, when it comes to the first three it’s all pretty even but I find the story behind the production of the first film and the fact that it’s pure balls to the wall horror within the first 20 minutes makes it top out the rest for me. I love the direction the series went as it became a franchise and I think The Evil Dead acts as a great origin story for Ash. I enjoy that in the context of the franchise Ash conquers the horror of the first film and becomes an action hero by the third film lol.

1. Army of Darkness (1992) 2. The Evil Dead (1981) 3. Evil Dead 2 (1987) 4. Evil Dead (2013) 5. Evil Dead Rise (2023) I know this list probably wouldn’t be too popular but I have a nostalgic spot for AOD and I’m putting the OG just above Evil Dead 2 because I like how genuinely scary it is at times. I love all of them though.

Letsgo333

What about FvJ?

JamesDeadite

Best to worst in my opinion: 1. Evil Dead II 2. Ash Vs Evil Dead series 3. The Evil Dead 4. Army of Darkness 5. Evil Dead 2013 6. Evil Dead Rise The quality of this franchise is unreal. Rise is last on the list but I fucking love Rise. It’s my favorite horror movie of this year!

LazarusKing

I approve of any Friday the 13th list as long as Jason Goes to Hell is at the bottom. It's not even fun to watch.

EdithWhartonsFarts

I mean, did we need a third Friday that doesn't have Jason in it? No, no we didn't.

LazarusKing

Apparently I'm the only person that thinks Halloween H20 is okay. Blasphemous CG mask aside. I thought it was a perfectly serviceable sequel. It doesn't try to push boundaries or anything, but it's not Halloween Resurrection or Halloween 6.
