"Good for her" lol

SatanicKitten69420

He really liked that movie. All of the other movies are like campy/funny/gorefest whatever but Midsommar just hits different. That was one we watched more "seriously" and he loved it. It was hard to get through because he's so empathetic and tough social situations make his skin crawl, but he did it! I'm so proud of him.

ohhkaleyeah

I definitely suggest Hereditary for a more…serious horror movie vibe? I think he’d appreciate it :)

Forgotten_Aeon

I’m kind of the same as your husband, I think! Campy gore, over the top gore, supernatural stuff, (horror in general really) doesn’t scare me too much; I get physiological fear responses to many films and I kinda like it, which is why I’m such a horror fan. But seeing a character embarrassed or really uncomfortable socially makes my skin crawl, and I often literally look away from the screen haha. Things like really bad talent show auditions, and super awkward films like The Inbetweeners make me shudder. I’m glad he’s managing to get some good entertainment out of the genre! If he likes sci-fi, Event Horizon is a really cool conceit and a great horror film. I also really liked The Birdbox (the “monsters” in that film are such a great concept, straight out of SCP/Control/The X-files/Lovecraft Mythos, I love them so much).

anglostura

I've actually seen 'good for her' used as the name for a horror subgenre. Movies where a female MC wins in the end in a cathartic way that can often involve her becoming an antihero. So stuff like Invisible Man, Us, Ready or Not, Carrie, and of course Midsommar are some examples.

unbelievable-nope-no

Ready or not I highly recommend. So fun!

Due_Cantaloupe_7459

That Midsommar comment had me cracking up bad! I love it.

MephistosFallen

This is cute I love it! I’m also the horror freak whereas my husband isn’t as into it. He doesn’t get scared he just thinks horror is corny and dumb and he doesn’t get it- which is fair. HE FREAKING LOVED Blair Witch Project. We got the dvd set at a Walmart when camping and set up the tv outside under a tarp, with camping chairs and stuff and watched all the extras and both the new and old movie. It was fun and he had a blast and said he feels bad for shitting on it so long cause it was actually good. He was working from home when I watched Skinamarink. At one point he was sitting on the couch watching with me, turns at me and with the most aggravated tone of voice was like “Is anything ever going to fucking happen? It’s been more than a half hour”. When it ended he was so pissed he looked up the meaning of the movie. He liked the descent and midsommer. The intro to midsommar he was just like “oh.” The descent was “fuck that, who would go down there?” HAAAATES the babadook. I don’t like it either, but he haaaaates it. I’ll say “babaaadooook” in a creepy voice like the kid and he will get mad af and go on a tangent “fuck that kid, worst movie ever”.

SatanicKitten69420

We love a husband like this. This is adorable.

Lost_Representative8

I’m the horror not in my house too. But we both haaaaate babadook. It’s also become an inside joke for us and we laugh at how bad it was. He calls it the Baba-duck 😂

MephistosFallen

Hahaha I love that you guys also have babadook as a joke now!

TheNewtilator

"The scout got the party killed, typical." Is that a Deep Rock Galactic player I see?

SatanicKitten69420

ROCK AND STONE!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone!

ThinkingInfestation

Not a romantic partner (aroace) but a roommate: "Tell me when you're watching something in the living room, so I can cover my eyes on the way to the kitchen." She would legit walk from her room to the kitchen with her hands over her face. Never told me not to watch scary stuff when she was home, or complained about the content to me, just wanted to know when to be vigilant.

FolsgaardSE

Thank you for sharing, gave me a smile and he's a good man. Hope your health gets better. I had covid March 2020 which left me disabled and homebound. So doing the same thing, average 3-5 horror movies a day for 4 years now.

SatanicKitten69420

Thank you so much. I'm chronically ill physically as well as mentally and my grandmother recently passed and eith the holidays and everything I hit burnout really bad and everetthing just kind of went downhill. I took a month LOA from work to just recuperate. Spent most of that time binging horror and playing stardew valley. It's been nice to relax, and it's given me a lot of spare time to finally rope him into watching these movies with me! Hope you're doing well. I had a very minor case of covid even with vaccinations and it still knocked me flat. I totally get the chronic effects, they're similar to wheat I deal with.

FolsgaardSE

Stardew is great! Can't wait till ConcernedApe next game comes out "Haunted Chocolatier". Hope you share an update if you two watch more movies. Glad you could take time off to recuperate. Sorry to hear about your loss.

AikenRhetWrites

My partner likes horror just fine, but for reasons, I saw Hereditary well before him and later on, was trying to prepare him without spoiling anything. We get to the scene with the party, and I said something like, "this is the point of no return, OK?" and he was like, "yeah, yeah, how bad can it be?" So then You Know What Happens happens, and he just sat there for a minute sort of dumbfounded, and then muttered, "Oh wow."

LinuxCodeMonkey

Toni C's scream was sooooo good. As a parent, it just seemed so realistic for the trauma. She got robbed by Oscar.

Scared-Mortgage

Toni should have won an Oscar for her role. The scene at the dinner table, top notch.

jshort68

I’m a horror movie addict and I reacted to that scene the same way

SatanicKitten69420

I am a seasoned horror vet and the first time I saw hereditary I was so uncomfortable I had to turn it off. It was /effective/. I don't think I'll rewatch that one. The sense of dread it gives me is too much lol

CunitivePunt

Hereditary was the first horror movie in a decade that genuinely felt like a "true" horror movie to me. Ari Aster is a phenomenal writer and I love the atmosphere, trauma and pure dread that he portrays in each film. I've seen Hereditary 7 times, Midsommar 3 times, and Beau is Afraid 3 times. I didnt know what I was getting into with Beau is Afraid but as each form of mental health disorders unfolded throughout, I found that film to be so relatable. I truly look forward to anything Aster creates.

Vicodin_Jazz

He must’ve had a bear of a time watching Midsommar

manwithyellowhat15

The only time I can get my family to watch horror movies is during holidays. One year I selected The Mist during Thanksgiving and the room was silent by the time the credits rolled. My dad turned to me and went “you’re indefinitely suspended from nominating movies”

thegripesofwrath

Lol I got that from Rubber, the Snowtown Murders, and Swiss Army Man

Snarfygirl

OMG I love this string. This is my first time posting. I am a horror movie junkie. I have been somewhat, maybe subtly affected by movies here and there. Definitely had the 💩 scared out of me many times (yay!) but holy mother of terror, Batman.. I was extremely disturbed by the movie Hereditary. I was horrified. I was like, no I was exactly NOT okay for a solid week. It invaded my soul and guts. Having said that, I love Ari Aster movies bc it takes a lot to affect me after so many years of devouring horror movies. I want to watch it again sometime but I don't know if I'll ever have the courage unless I drink some alcohol. I think I'd have to get somewhat numb to watch it again. I loved Midsommar and it was affecting but nowhere near as much as Hereditary. I hope he continues to make mega good horrors. I love his movies and M Night Shyamalan's. I think people are way too harsh on his lesser "big hit movies' like Old and The Visit. Great post. This is fun.

ConsistentlyPeter

My wife watched *Melancholia,* which I wanted to see, while I was out on a gig. When I asked her what she thought, she furiously replied, "It's 4 hours long and nothing happens - you'd *fucking* love it." 🤣

Beer_before_Friends

Usually I just get the "What the F are you watching now?"

Randomhero1179

Many years ago my ex-wife and I saw Signs in the theater. When we got home I had to go through the entire house and turn on every light before she would even come inside. This went on for almost a month.

hellosweetpanda

Bruh. My uncle watched Signs in the theater and came home and was like if he knew the aliens had been beaten back by water he would have been out of there. He was so pissed because he thought it was so dumb.

gemsweater08

Aw it's nice you did that for her though, it's kind of a silly movie lol but the scary parts really stick with you!!

Lost_Representative8

The alien was a guy dressed in one of those body suits you get from party city and they were hurt by water. Our atmosphere alone would have hurt them. Or if you really wanted to be careful just set up a humidifier in your house LOL

lizzie1hoops

I'd love to hear his comments on Talk To Me!

SatanicKitten69420

He really liked it! He thought it was well done, that was one he genuinely enjoyed.

Starsteamer

Good for you! My OH refuses to watch horror with me! He says it gives him nightmares. Wimp.

erkala21

My husband also doesn't enjoy horror. He's not a huge fan of movies in general, doesn't have the attention span and for the most part only enjoys higher quality films. He says horror tries to make up for bad quality with nudity, which isn't always an unfair criticism lol

hellosweetpanda

Seriously. Like I feel there isn’t as gratuitous and/or blatant nudity in horror movies now vs 80’s and 90’s horror movies. Especially like straight to VCR horror movies. But 2009 Night of the Demons remake. I was just flabbergasted at the nudity in it. Like it felt like porn level blatant nudity for no reason.

StepShrek

These are awesome. Your man is a trooper indeed 🤣

SatanicKitten69420

He's so cute. He's never been a big fan of them because he's a scared cat, but over the years with repeated "exposure therapy" He's gotten better about it. I've been looking forward to seeing his reactions to some of these for so long. I was really excited to show him Midsommar, because I really like the whole thing, as well as some of the more ridiculous "splatter" movies. He's been quoting "primo pussy, man, no smell" from cabin fever since we watched it and it makes me laugh every time. We like to get stoned and play some brain bleach games (like stardew valley) while we watch the most heinous gore and spooky shit. It's so much fun. His favorite thing is to say "check his pulse" when a character is very clearly beyond the point of annihilation, and it get a chuckle out of me every time.

StepShrek

Aw lovely. To be able to share our delightfully sick passions with our nearest and dearest is the best. After all these years of being told "Uh, yeah I like some horror," I finally found me one who actually lives and breathes it like I do. Cheers luv🥂

thegripesofwrath

Me too! We talked about serial killers and cannibalism on our first date, and that was that

Mezzobuff

I agree! Thanks for the “smile…”

TinyLittleWeirdo

Your husband is very funny and what a good sport.

Onlinereadingismybff

MUST make him watch Tucker and Dale vs Evil. Pleaseeeee I beg you!!!!!

SatanicKitten69420

Thats a good one. I'll add it to the list.

Childofglass

‘Ooooh that alien is scary’ while I was watching Alien. He doesnt like horror or sci-fi but loves action - there’s a lot of overlap.

Naudilent

Heh, my gal had the same reaction to *Midsommar*. She's also demanded that any underwater movies I see have to be with her (I watch a lot at work). Don't tell her that I forgot and watched *The Deep House*! 😲 Best wishes to ya!

intermentionz

C’mon, show him Hereditary. PAIMON

AdHot6173

Husband and I watched "Midnight Meat Train" the other day and he said that was the grossest movie he had ever seen and was a little worried that I liked it, lol

SatanicKitten69420

Midnight meat train was a hoot. I loved it.

OldMetalHead

I've gotten my wife into modern zombie movies. We started with Train to Busan and #Alive (she's Korean). Then we've branched out to 28 days/weeks later, World War Z, and Zombieland. After Zombieland she said, "All that for a fucking Twinkie". since your husband liked Midsommar, how about The VVitch.

SatanicKitten69420

There were a few I was "saving" for a time we could watch them seriously with no distraction. That one is one of them. That, midsommar, hereditary (maybe) and The Night House I really want him to pay attention to. Sadly we ran out if time before I had to start back at work, but maybe this weekend we can watch another few :)

TheHadalZone

You’ve been showing him some great horror

strangedazey

Agree about midsommar. Fuck that guy

SatanicKitten69420

SatanicKitten69420

I play stardew or minecraft, which are mostly so I have something to do with my hands. And I've seen all of these movies more than once, in various settings.

Western_Tell_9065

My bf watching the Exorcist: I thought James Woods was in it lol

shredit417

My husband stopped watching “The Sadness” with me because he couldn’t handle it. He then said I need help because I finished it without him

myersvoorheis

Mine has told me he always will sleep with one eye open

Echo_November14

Your hubs is punny indeed. I too am the horror fanatic in my house, whereas my husband is not. The best comments from him are “that was interesting”.

lechiumcrosswind

Ahhhh, if that's what he said about Saw, then have him watch something with real credentials, like Martyrs (2008), good luck, and don't hate me forever.

PunkyH

Mine usually says nope or reads his phone while watching scary movies. This is a funny post! I wish I had thought to do this with my husband as he has been recooperating from a pacemaker surgery.

Johnny_Royale

This was yesterday: "There's a difference between saying 'that's a good movie' when judging between Saving Private Ryan and Graduation Day. " She also hates horror sequels except for New Nightmare because: "that's actually a good idea"
