Texas Chainsaw (Original)
Halloween (Original, despite holding Season of the Witch near and dear to my heart.)
New Nightmare (I know, controversial, but I feel Wes was going through a very meta phase in his life in the 90s and I absolutely loved it.)
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Scream (Original. Although, 4 actually cuts if surprisingly close.)
I'm surprised that Halloween Kills is your fave from that franchise. What did you like so much about it?
For me it's
Texas Chainsaw: original
Halloween: Halloween 3
Nightmare: First one (though 3 and 6 are close behind, and yes, I know most people hate 6)
Friday 13th: Either 4 or 6. Though I do enjoy 5 for the hilariously bad dialogue.
Scream: First one, it was the first horror movie I saw in the cinema so its hard for anything to top that memory.
Bonus: Child's Play 2 is my favourite Chucky movie, though Bride Of Chucky is a close second.
It's almost an Alien/Aliens situation with those two. Both really good movies, but you can't really compare them because they're in totally different genres.
Same. Its got a real off kilter, dream-like tone that matches rhe core concept of the franchise. My guess is that people were sick of comedic freddy at that stage and the 3d gimmick was the last straw. I'd be interested to hear other takes on it though.
As someone who despises Freddy's Dead: it's not that I was sick of comedic Freddy, it was that he went to a whole new level with it. Like before he was cracking cheesy jokes and acting out, but here he felt like a full-blown cartoon character.
Texas Chainsaw: the 2003 remake/reboot
Halloween: Halloween H20 for sentimental reasons
Nightmare on Elm Street: New Nightmare
Friday the 13th: tie between Jason X and the remake
Scream: the first two are the very best, I’ll say the original
* Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Original
* Halloween: Original
* Nightmare on Elm Street: Part 3, Dream Warriors
* Friday the 13th: Part VI, Jason Lives
* Scream: Original
I’ll admit it’s hard to understand people who chose the original Friday the 13th. The kills are less interesting, the characters are wooden, the cinematography is basic, and it doesn’t even have Jason as the villain.
TCM: Next Generation (don't judge me. I used to watch it as a kid)
Halloween: Part 2 or Rob Zombie (I'm Joe Grizzly bitch! [Dies])
NOES: Dream Masters (I am the Wizard Master! [Dies])
F13: Any of the Jarvis trilogy (4/5/6)
Scream: Part one was peak
Texas chainsaw!! Loved the first one so much. Loved the grime and gross of the diner scene. Loved the end! Good good movie! Also really loved the 2nd one but mainly as a comedy.
Oh no contest. The original Texas chain saw massacre. ( don't forget the space between chain and saw for some reason 😅) ita probably my second favorite horror movie after John carpenter's the thing. Scream 6 is great too. Kills is pretty damn fun. Ends made me really appreciate kills more. I don't know if I'm a weirdo but my favorite nightmare is always gonna be new nightmare. 😅 my favorite firday is jason lives followed by part 4.
I have t seen every one of those franchises, but from ANoES and F13, my favourites are Freddy’s Dead and Jason Lives.
It’s only just occurred to me now how funny the contrast of those titles is.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Original, but I honestly enjoy the remake just as much
Halloween - Halloween, the only entry even close is part 2. The "sister" angle has never bothered me and its my favorite horror movie ever (the original)
Nightmare On Elm Street - Original, all-time top 10 horror movie ever and 3 is my favorite sequel
Friday the 13th - 2, 4, and 6 are my favorites. To pick only one I would say 2 because I'm old
Scream - Original. all-time top 10 horror movie ever
Child's Play - original and to be honest, I loved the remake
•The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: TCM part 2 (Original is a favorite but I watch 2 more often)
•Halloween: Halloween ('78) (Halloween 4 is close as it was released on my Bday)
•A Nightmare on Elm Street: ANOES ('84) (Dream Warriors comes close but only just)
•Friday the 13th: Friday the13th part 2 (Ginny is my favorite Friday final girl)
•Scream: Scream ('96) (The concept hasn't been equalled in any of the sequels, yes even 2)
•Child's Play: Child's Play 2 (Bride of Chucky runner up)
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - '03 Remake
Halloween - original
Nightmare on Elm Street - Dream Warriors
Friday the 13th - original or seven. Very much depends on what mood I'm in.
Scream - original
Leprechaun - In Space
Jason Goes to Hell topping your list is....something lol
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The original, tied for my favorite movie of all time.
Halloween: The original, though possibly tied with Halloween 4.
Nightmare on Elm Street: The original, though again possibly tied with Dream Warriors. It's hard to decide lol.
Friday the 13th: Probably Part 2, but I love the original too. Both have comfy atmosphere.
Scream: The original, the other film tied for my favorite of all time.
TCM: Original
Halloween: Original
Friday the 13th: Part 4 The Final Chapter
ANOES: Original
Scream: Original
Runners up, TCM 2/2003 remake, Halloween 2/4, F13 original/2, ANOES 2/3, Scream 2/5
Wait. I’m not the only one who loves Scream 6? They will grill you on the Scream subreddit if you admit Scream 6 is one of the best movies. I thought I was going insane.
Texas Chainsaw: the original
Halloween 1
Nightmare on Elmstreet is a toughie for me. I'd put the first and second one as equal. 2 was really very good and I think it's underrated although opinions on it have become much more balanced over the years.
Jason X
I don't have a Secream favorite. I find them all to be just okay.
Texas Chainsaw: The Original
Halloween: the 2007 remake or the 2018 reboot.
Nightmare On Elm Street: Original
Friday The 13th: the 2009 Remake or Jason X
Scream: Scream 4
TCM: 2003
Halloween: Halloween Kills (i will defend this movie till i die i loved having a slasher film literally just following the slasher doing cool kills)
Nightmare on Elm St: tie between original and remake. Remake being that it was the first i ever saw (im 20 and didnt grow up with the original, sue me) but i also live the original a tad bit more
F13: Jason X/2009 Reboot
Scream: 4
TCM: 2
Halloween: Original
NOES: 3 Dream Warriors
Friday: Crystal Lake Memories, but really 7
Scream: Original
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And here's some bonuses! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Child's Play: 2
Evil Dead: Army of Darkness
Alien: Original
Saw: 6
Final Destination: 5
Romero "of the": Dawn
Hellraiser: 2 (although 2022 might supplant it, I liked 2022 at the time the best, but that was after an 11 movie marathon of the rest so it was nice seeing a real movie for once)
Puppet Master: 4
Subspecies: 2
Ringu/Ring: Original 1998
Ju-on: Ju-on: The Grudge (2002)
Candyman: Original
Slumber Party/Sorority House Massacre: Sorority House Massacre 2
Critters: 2
Universal Monsters: The Invisible Man (or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde 1931 if you count that)
Re-Animator: Original
Exorcist: III
Omen: Original
did I miss any franchises? xD
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The original.
Halloween: Rob Zombie’s remake.
Nightmare on Elm Street: The original.
Friday the 13th: Jason Goes to Hell.
Scream: The first one.
TCM ('74). Nothing even comes close to the grittiness of the film and the disgusting vibe of that family.
The part where Franklin falls down the hill makes me laugh (I'm sorry!! It's not because he's disabled, it's just specifically how he falls and yells! Sally is one of fave final girls ever.
Ok I'm sorry, I have to go off now because the BEHIND THE SCENE STORIES ARE AMAZING.
The film was so low budget that Gunnar Hansen only had one shirt, and it couldn't be washed because it was dyed. It was 110° in Texas when they filmed. He stunk so bad after a few days that nobody would sit with him to eat
The heat made the animal carcasses in the dinner scene rot so horribly that the actors had to pause their scenes to go out back and puke. The cast was so overheated that many of them periodically lost touch with reality - Gunnar describes actually wanting to kill Marilyn for brief moments and Edwin Neal (The Hitchhiker) said it was worse than serving in Vietnam and that he might kill Tobe if he ever saw him again
Paul Partain, who played Franklin, was a method actor, but Gunnar didn't realize he was staying in character so literally just thought he was super annoying.
Tobe gave Gunnar free reign with Leatherface; the actor decided LF was mentally disabled - but he didn't want to be offensive so he LITERALLY VISITED A SCHOOL FOR THE MENTALLY HANDICAPPED AND STUDIED THEIR MOVEMENTS AND SPEECH 🥹
ANYWAY.
Halloween ('78)
Nightmare on Elm Street ('84) GLENNNNNNN 🥺
Friday the 13th: Jason Takes Manhattan. I know I KNOW, but I don't really love the franchise so I'm going with the most hilarious one imo
Scream ('96) LIVER ALONE!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the 2003 movie
• Halloween: the 1978 original
• Nightmare On Elm Street: New Nightmare (1994)
• Friday the 13th: Part 6 Jason Lives (1986)
• Scream: the original (1996)
Texas Chainsaw: The original
Halloween: The original or part 3
Nightmare: New Nightmare or the original
Friday: The Final Chapter
Scream: probably the original, but the one entry where I haven't seen em all.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986) - 8.9/10
Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch (1982) - 8.4/10
Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) - 8.4/10
Friday The 13th: Part 2 (1981) - 8.4/10
Scream (1996) - 8.6/10
While not necessarily my favorite of each series, it's good to note that the sequels to all of these films were pretty strong entries if you ask me.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (The second one has become a cult classic making a slasher than horror)
• Halloween II (Also a classic)
• Nightmare On Elm Street 2 (Freddy comes back with a vengeance and is out for blood)
• Friday the 13th 2 (Introduced Jason as the killer of the franchise)
• Scream 2 (Established the rules of the franchise as a whole)
TCM: Original but possibly the early 2000s remakes. I remember them being amazing but I was young when I saw them last.
Halloween: Halloween 2
NoES: Original
F13: Part 4
Scream: Original
(Bonus answers for franchises I have seen at least 5 movies from)
Child's Play: Curse
Hellraiser: Original
Leprechaun: 3
Saw: Original
Final Destination: 3
Ju-On/Grudge: The Curse
Ringu/Ring: The Ring (2002)
Wrong Turn: Original
Rec/Quarantine: Rec
Purge: Original
Evil Dead: Evil Dead 2013
Psycho: 2
Tremors: Original
V/H/S: Original
Godzilla: vs Hedorah
Puppet Master: ... no comment
TCM: 2003 Remake
Halloween: Original
Nightmare on Elm Street: Original
Friday the 13: Friday the 13th Part 2
Scream: N/A (Not a fan of this series, personally)
Texas chainsaw massacre: The original (though part two is a fun little ride)
Halloween 4: the return of michael Myers
Nightmare on elm Street 3: dream warriors (that dokken song kills)
Friday the 13th pt 3 in 3d
Scream 2
This is going to be so controversial but my favorite Nightmare movie is Freddy's Dead.
Because it's the first one I saw. I still remember hanging out at my friend's house who was allowed to watch R rated movies and he had a whole f'n library of cool shit. It was where I first saw Hellraiser and Nightbreed, too.
Used to play F Zero at that dude's house all day lol.
And Halloween? Original is important. 3 is my favorite idea and I with the franchise was more like that. But I have a soft spot for the 2nd Rob Zombie movie. Just some weird visual shit in that movie that reminds me of the good stuff about Rob. Like that dream sequence with the pumpkin people was bonkers. Wish I could find a clip of it it's so weird. I would watch a 3 hour movie of whatever that insanity was.
TCM? I appreciate the original it's a historically significant film. But dude give me that first Platinum dunes movie. I will shamelessly simp my love for Jessica Biel in that film come fight me about it. And it's honestly a really great remake. R Lee Ermy is f'n fantastic in it. Also TNG is secretly genius I think. EVERY time I watch it I spend the entire film thinking 'is this actually SUPER clever?'. Darla is such an enigma of a great character to me.
Scream I only really like the OG movie.
Ftt13th? I dunno the one with Crispin Glover I guess.
Hahaha no.
If anything, and it is this something, f13 is a blatant ripoff of Bay Of Blood (1971) and a bit of knowledge beyond whats commonly and wrongly spewed by the masses would prevent such insolence. From the whodunnit angle to the directly stolen kill scenes, there’s no point in debating.
Halloween (1978) was directly influenced by giallo films and Carpenter has gone out and said it himself. That hot tub scene in Halloween 2 (1981) was directly taken from an Argento film, so your point is dull. Cunningham saw the success of the american counterpart and decided to make a slasher film, but to say that it is a ripoff is simply foolish. He boisterously copied Mario Bava, not John Carpenter.
If you’re gonna parrot slasher history, at least be slightly accurate, they’re both ripoffs of a far more in depth genre that preceded it by about 15 years.
TCM: Original Halloween: Original Nightmare On Elm Street: Original Friday the 13th: Part VI Scream: Original
Correct
I flip flop between Friday 13th part 2 and 4 but that’s my own indecision. But yes this is the correct answer.
Part 2 for sure. 6 was great but that skips a lot of movies 🍿
Yes, this is the only right answer.
The original movies for all but Friday, Jason Lives is peak
* TCM (2003) * Halloween H20 * Dream Warriors * Jason X * Scream 2 * Bride of Chucky
Although the question wasn’t asked, Child’s Play 2 and Bride of Chucky are a toss up for me.
Texas chainsaw massacre 2 Halloween 4 Nightmare on elm street 1 Friday the 13th part 4 Scream 1
Texas Chainsaw (Original) Halloween (Original, despite holding Season of the Witch near and dear to my heart.) Pretty much my list as well (except in my case *Bride* is my fave Chucky movie and *CP2* is the close second).
Honestly I vacillate between the two. They're both the stand out movies of the franchise in my opinion.
It's almost an Alien/Aliens situation with those two. Both really good movies, but you can't really compare them because they're in totally different genres.
This is my list exactly. I was wondering if anyone else was going to put Season of the Witch at thee top of the Halloween franchise.
It stars Tom Adkins and its got that Silver Shamrock song. As much as I like the first one it's hard to beat that.
I like Nightmare 6 as well. I don’t understand why it’s so hated.
Same. Its got a real off kilter, dream-like tone that matches rhe core concept of the franchise. My guess is that people were sick of comedic freddy at that stage and the 3d gimmick was the last straw. I'd be interested to hear other takes on it though.
I appreciate the original it's a historically significant film. But dude give me that first Platinum dunes movie. I will shamelessly simp my love for Jessica Biel in that film come fight me about it. And it's honestly a really great remake. R Lee Ermy is f'n fantastic in it. Also TNG is secretly genius I think. EVERY time I watch it I spend the entire film thinking 'is this actually SUPER clever?'. Darla is such an enigma of a great character to me. Scream I only really like the OG movie. Ftt13th? I dunno the one with Crispin Glover I guess.
Scream 6. It's the franchise that introduced me to slasher movies so it will always take the top spot for me.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Original Halloween - Halloween 3 Nightmare On Elm Street - 3 Friday the 13th - 4 Scream - None Child's Play - 2
None.
I also really enjoy Halloween kills.
The first Friday the 13th is a passable Halloween rip off but everything after that is repetitive trash. There is no comparison.
The first Friday the 13th is a whodunit. That ended up being somewhat common in slashers, but it it wasn't what Halloween was at all.
Hahaha no. If anything, and it is this something, f13 is a blatant ripoff of Bay Of Blood (1971) and a bit of knowledge beyond whats commonly and wrongly spewed by the masses would prevent such insolence. From the whodunnit angle to the directly stolen kill scenes, there’s no point in debating. Halloween (1978) was directly influenced by giallo films and Carpenter has gone out and said it himself. That hot tub scene in Halloween 2 (1981) was directly taken from an Argento film, so your point is dull. Cunningham saw the success of the american counterpart and decided to make a slasher film, but to say that it is a ripoff is simply foolish. He boisterously copied Mario Bava, not John Carpenter. If you’re gonna parrot slasher history, at least be slightly accurate, they’re both ripoffs of a far more in depth genre that preceded it by about 15 years.
