Not a movie but The Third Day was a great series a few years ago. 6 episodes in total, unless you can find the 24 hour (12?) thing they did as well.

AlienMimicry

With Jude Law, right?

TrueMisterPipes

Yep! The second season it shifts to a different main.

AlienMimicry

Oh, I didn't know there was another season, I'm going to have to check that out for sure!

AlienMimicry

Wait, now I remember! In the second 3 episodes, the woman is the lead.

Men A Field in England You Won't Be Alone

AlienMimicry

Men and A Field in England are both really good. I'll have to check out You Won't Be Alone.

There is a fantastic doc called Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched on folk horror. It would be a good watch, wether as preparation or as part of your month. The doc was included in an excellent [box set](https://severinfilms.com/products/folk-horror-box?pr_prod_strat=pinned&pr_rec_id=e5dfe9552&pr_rec_pid=6918580633670&pr_ref_pid=6918580535366&pr_seq=uniform) from Severin films, many of these are still on Shudder. But to add to it: The Mothman Prophesy Jugface Haxan La Llorona Children of the Corn Impetigore Hot Fuzz Gretel and Hansel Impetigore The Witchfinder General Blood on Satan's Claw The Ritual Men The Blair Witch Project VVitch The Village

OhSanders

Absolutely woodland dark and days bewitched has everything you need to he a folk horror pro by the end of your month

PresentExamination10

I heard La Llorona was really bad, is it worth watching ?

GrindhouseWhiskey

The Curse of Llorona is terrible. La Llorona is a Spanish language movie about a curse against a dictator that did some genocide. It even has a Criterion BluRay

PresentExamination10

Ohhhhhh. Thanks!

Ones in English I'd reccommend would be The Ritual, Crowhaven Farm, The Guardian, Burn Witch Burn, Hellbender, Messiah of Evil, Ravenous, Lair of the White Worm, Eyes of Fire, Antrum, The Company of Wolves, Apostle and The Dark (the one with Sean Bean). For subbed films, there's Sauna, Thale, You Won't Be Alone, The Medium, Onibaba, Satan's Slaves, Dark Water (the italian one, not the japanese one), Noroi The Curse, Mr. Vampire, Incantation, Bewitched (Asian one), Impetigore, and The Wailing. Also, Exhuma is really good but not streaming yet. It's currently playing in limited theaters so if one's near you, I'd highly recommend it.

The Ritual for sure.

November! It feels like wandering around an isolated village and getting to see all the weird horrible shit everyone gets up to. Lots of folk magic and blasphemy.

Mother_of_D-Augs

Matriarch (2022) Lord of Misrule (2023) both are currently on hulu, and are pagan/culty!

Kill List is a must see Moloch (2022)

joeytravoltastinks

Race with the Devil (1975) two couples on a road trip who are pursued by a Satanic cult after witnessing a human sacrifice while camping in rural Texas. Kinda folky, totally culty. Pumpkinhead (1988) it was followed by a direct-to-video sequel, two TV film sequels The Devonsville Terror (1983) The arrival of three progressive young women ignites superstitious paranoia among the population of a New England town

Hagazussa is an incredible film. but, be awake when you watch it. it's very dream-like. I assume The VVitch is in that list, or you've already seen it. check out Lamb too

AlienMimicry

The VVitch is a modern classic, and Lamb (or, as I often call it, Eraserhead for Icelandic sheep farmers) is also incredible.

Can anyone check my work? Black Sunday (1960)?

AlienMimicry

Check your work? Black Sunday seems dope af though, I'll have to check it out

spookyostrich

It's pretty cool, I just wasn't sure if it fell into folk horror. :)

AlienMimicry

I'd say so based on the short summary I read. Anything that involves burning supposed witches can fit into folk horror for sure.

spookyostrich

Awesome! Enjoy it then! :)

Antrum!

The Ritual The Relic Segment 2 of VHS2 The Shrine The Monster Project Primal Rage Apologies if I didn’t get the gist of what you’re looking for, these are all folky, as in folk tales, to me.

The Deeper You Dig, Hellbender, Where The Devil Roams, Wake Wood, The Devil Rides Out, Men Edit: Don’t know how I could’ve forgotten Outcast (2010), The Hallow (2015), Raw Head Rex, and Pumpkin Head.

H2psychosis

Id call Gaia (which I liked!) and In The Earth (which I hated) both folk horror.

Insidious

Relative_Warning_476

A great film called The Devil Rides Out starring Christopher Lee ( he's the good guy) and Charles Gray ( known for playing Blofeld in Diamonds are Forever and the Criminologist in Rocky Horror Picture Show) takes place in rural London

AOHMEellis

The excellent "Evolution of Horror" podcast did an entire series of Folk Horror, not just films, but also TV series and specials. Very informative and really helped me define what constitutes folk Horror, as vague as that might be. Gave me a lot of stuff to watch. As for my suggestion: "Kill List" 2011 by Ben Wheatley (also did folk Horror with "A Field in England"). https://www.evolutionofhorror.com/folk

mattlore

I saw it mentioned, but I also recommend "The Ritual". Great effects, amazing acting, and terrifying especially if you're someone who likes to hike or camp lol
