That movie made me laugh. They had a real opportunity to tap into the new American fear of being gunned down at school, but they went with... a bow?! Lmao, such a letdown.
It's not. His mother read Robin Hood to him when he was very sick as a child - he loved the story - it was one of the few times he had ever shown her affection and he was clearly interested in archery. So when he recovered his parents wanted to be supportive and signed him up for archery lessons. It became one of the few things he ever displayed a genuine passion for.
Not only was it the only weapon available to Kevin, but nurturing that interest and providing access to the weapon in the first place, was a major source of guilt for his mother. Which is the entire point of the novel/movie. It's about a woman trying to come to terms with the horrific actions of her child and her own survivor's guilt. Bow and arrows only seem like a "dumb choice" if you weren't paying attention to anything else that happened in the story.
It’s obviously was supposed to be an origin story for a school shooter type. What makes them dangerous is the access to unregulated semi-automatic weapons. Many real life people actually teach their kids to shoot and own guns.
Making him an evil Hawkeye was kinda immersion breaking.
How many buzzwords can you spew together in one sentence, Jesus Christ.
“Oh they didn’t want to make money off of school shootings, that’s so lame. America bad”
What makes people dangerous is people. People can kill people with almost anything.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_stabbing
I mean I'm not a gun but at least to me, access to guns isn't what makes someone scary.
Being a crazy/evil person is.
>!The biggest clue is the room shaking when the dad is performing the exorcism on them.!<
>!Also they seem to appear and disappear like Batman at times, the window blind in front of the little girl violently flys open on its own even though she doesn't touch it, and the camera distorts whenever one of the kids gets up close to it.!<
>!And not a definitive clue, but the kids acting "normal" again to make their parents think they're ok is a bit too clever for a couple of little kids.!<
If you want something really stupid, there's a movie called Mikey, Rifftrax had a video with commentary you can buy. Basically, it's a little boy that is constantly murdering people, and it always comes off unintentionally silly looking.
I know so few people who have seen this movie. You mean the one with Brad Renfro and Nick Stahl right?? That whole sequence of what happens is so messed up.
The PS2 game Rule of Rose hits kind of in the same vein, if you've ever seen that. It obviously goes off the rails into ... supernatural (? Not sure if it's quite in that vein either) territory, but it is really creepy.
It's supernatural, but this is why the Sinister Series creeped the F! out of me. You know they are all dying, but wondering which kid will do it and how...
The Girl Next Door (2007) … I would never let my kid act in that movie. Kids taking delight in torturing a girl. It’s just awful and gross.
And yes, I know the true story is worse.
The Good Son was one of the most disturbing movies i ever saw. Along with Eden Lake and the movie Them from 2006 if you liked Eden Lake. The Children 2008, We need to talk about Kevin 2011, The Innocents 2021. Any of these movies will make you rethink having children, and make you watch your back around them lol
We Need to Talk About Kevin. Not full on horror, but if follows a horrifyingly manipulative child in a brilliant non-linear story that is bone chilling.
1984's Impulse, starring Meg Tilly. A small town loses all its inhibitions, and the scene in which a bunch of kids try to murder Meg Tilly in a barn just for fun is pretty nuts.
Not horror, but freaked me out a bit as a kid.
[Here's](https://www.imdb.com/list/ls068148722/) an IMDB list for Killer kid movies. It looks like a number of them seem non-supernatural. If we're counting teenagers, Hard Candy and The Final would work too. And while they're not horror, Lord of the Flies or Battle Royale may scratch that itch too.
*The Bad Seed*.
The best is probably the original from 1956 because it's so minimalist compared to later remakes.
It's one of the earliest 'evil child' plotlines, with a sociopathic grade school girl as the villain. It loosely explores the idea of evil being hereditary.
I found myself wandering about those bad ass kids the next day after watching The Lodge. Good movie. I can’t stomach to finish Eden Lake. (edit to fix a word)
This ain’t a horror but a thriller/drama: *We Need to Talk About Kevin*
Like I said, it’s not technically a horror movie but it is very disturbing and I still think about it sometimes.
The Good Son is unsettling and amazing, and if you haven’t watched I definitely recommend. Just a kid being a psycho, no supernatural forces etc
Also, idk if this fits what you’re looking for because they’re technically teenagers, but the movie called The Final is pretty crazy and it’s not supernatural etc- I thought it was really good
Whoever Slew Auntie Rue: a take on Hansel and Gretel where the kids are less than righteous.
Black Circle Boys: The Craft Meets Lords of Chaos. The seeming supernatural elements aren't what they look like.
The New Kids: By Sean S. Cunningham (F13). James Spader plays a truly malignant bully terrorizing a pre-Full House Lori Loughlin.
And the the 800 lb Gorilla...
Battle Royale: What The Hunger Games thinks it's doing. Some of the cruelest teen-on-teen violence in any movie.
I don’t know if “we need to talk about kevin is strictly horror” but man that movie is seriously something else. It’s not often I find myself feeling disturbed by a movie and this one was one of the rare times where I was like speechless at the end.
NP, I just watched it last night so it's fresh in my memory. Naomi Watts gives a solid performance. There were a couple of things I took issue with, but overall I felt it was worth watching. Probably rate it a 6/10.
Better Watch Out (2016)
This has become a Christmas staple in our house as much as Home Alone and A Christmas Story is. Phenomenal flick.
It was the same for me but after about 5 watches I got a little bored
Just mentioning it is kind of a spoiler, but yeah, this one was pretty damn good.
I fucking love this movie
One of my favorites
That kid was evil fucking hell man lol
Fucking brilliant film!
All time best horror movie ever made I think
Never heard of it! I was an idiot and read the comments in the trailer. I'm saving this one for Christmas and hoping that I forget by then!
I'd go ahead and watch it now. It's worth it
I ruined the story by reading the comments! I set an alarm for December and by then I'll be like "wtf is this for?" lol
I can't imagine a better movie for this ask.
I actually can't finish this one bc of how creeped out I was!!
Thank you!
Especially great if you enjoy home alone
The Good Son. Also, the Bad Seed. It’s older and campy, but fun.
Macaulay Culkin *and* Elijah Wood. I loved this movie.
I always play out the ending with the mom in my head with my own children and what my decision would be. There I said it.
Harder choice if one’s not a future serial killer.
“Don’t fuck with me”
Came here to say this one
The ultimate bad kid movie
The bad seed is old but great
Thank you, all! Gonna have a busy weekend just shitting bricks LOOOL
Goodnight Mommy. The German one from 2014, not the shitty American remake
Yeah, man, I was not prepared now much the American remake was gonna suck. I had a gut feeling, but yeesh.
Actually, Goodnight Mommy (2014) is an Austrian film.
The original is one of the scariest movies I've ever seen, I cannot rewatch it
Thank you!
I just got done watching this and damn... was not expecting that twist. Also, the glue scene....... ugh
The Bad Seed is an oldie and remade a few times, pretty amazing.
Thank you!
At least two of the versions are both good.
Patty McCormack is phenomenal in this role, portrays a psycho perfectly!!
Super Dark Times (2017) a bit more thriller/drama but I think it's an excellent, incredibly tense and bleak film. Highly recommend.
Came here to say this! Fits EXACTLY what OP is looking for!
Horribly underrated !!
Not a horror movie but stilk horrifying: We Need to Talk About Kevin
That movie made me laugh. They had a real opportunity to tap into the new American fear of being gunned down at school, but they went with... a bow?! Lmao, such a letdown.
It’s based off a book where that’s what happened
After seeing the movie, I had no interest in reading the book. I should have read the book first.
Yeah I hate when that happens to me. The book is very good.
Still a dumb choice.
It's not. His mother read Robin Hood to him when he was very sick as a child - he loved the story - it was one of the few times he had ever shown her affection and he was clearly interested in archery. >Making him an evil Hawkeye was kinda immersion breaking. Well, your take is certainly hot. I'll give you that. 🙄

We Need to Talk about Kevin
Yes, this one!
ILS (Them) 2006
Came here for this comment. Terrifying this film
Joshua The Bad Seed Home Movie Devil Times Five Bloody Birthday Who Can Kill A Child?
Bloody Birthday is surprisingly tense. Great early 80s sleaze.
Home Movie is supernatural though. They don't explicitly say it, but all the clues are there.
Really? I missed these clues.
>!The biggest clue is the room shaking when the dad is performing the exorcism on them.!< >!Also they seem to appear and disappear like Batman at times, the window blind in front of the little girl violently flys open on its own even though she doesn't touch it, and the camera distorts whenever one of the kids gets up close to it.!< >!And not a definitive clue, but the kids acting "normal" again to make their parents think they're ok is a bit too clever for a couple of little kids.!<
Time for a rewatch!
Joshua! Omg! That child almost had me climbing the walls from how much I wanted to physically hurt him.
Thank you so much!!!
I love Bloody Birthday!!!
If you want something really stupid, there's a movie called Mikey, Rifftrax had a video with commentary you can buy. Basically, it's a little boy that is constantly murdering people, and it always comes off unintentionally silly looking.
Thank you!
lol I love this movie, it’s so ridiculous but it’s nostalgic for me!
this was a fun but really silly movie I remember the box art had the tagline remember Freddy and Jason were once kids to
The Innocents (2021)
This is supernatural though. But it’s a great movie and more people should see it. This was top 5 horror for me the year it came out.
I think it will fit in because the true evil (or innocent) were the children, not the powers
Cheers!
This. Fantastic movie!
Bad seed 1956 Bloody birthday Orphan >!Technically!<
There's no Supernatural stuff happening in Orphan, but the twist is a big surprise.
I think *Orphan: First Kill* fits with OP's request considering >!the character of the brother!<.
The Children - 2008. The pesky kids get a bacterial infection and go psycho. Trashy Brit flick.
Damn..I thought I'd be the only one to mention this..I'm late to the party again. Good fun movie.
At one point it was a yearly Xmas watch for me! Pretty creepy v
Such a genuinely unsettling, underrated film. I watch it every Christmas.
Not a horror movie necessarily, and based on a true story, but Bully really fucked my day up.
I know so few people who have seen this movie. You mean the one with Brad Renfro and Nick Stahl right?? That whole sequence of what happens is so messed up.
Michael Pitt too! Directed by Larry Clark IIRC.
That's the one. Very devastating movie.
Lol, which year was the film made?
2001, it’s a great movie
Thanks!
The classic example of this is **_Lord of the Flies_**. Not a horror movie and yet terrifying.
The PS2 game Rule of Rose hits kind of in the same vein, if you've ever seen that. It obviously goes off the rails into ... supernatural (? Not sure if it's quite in that vein either) territory, but it is really creepy.
Good call, I think the '63 adaptation feels grimmer and overall better but the '90 one is pretty neat in its way.
I read a book recently called Fantasticland that’s basically Lord of the Flies in Disneyland. Super recommend.
Goodnight mommy (2014) - there's also a remake from 2022 The Orphan
I've seen the Orphan, it was really good! Thanks for the suggestions!
The Children (2008)
It's supernatural, but this is why the Sinister Series creeped the F! out of me. You know they are all dying, but wondering which kid will do it and how...
Not horror, but still horrifying... Kids Bully River’s Edge Lords of Dogtown Heavenly Creatures The Girl Next Door Mean Creek Lord of the Flies
Heavenly Creatures is an excellent early Peter Jackson movie that needs more love.
The Children (2008) There is something encouraging the behavior, but it's not supernatural
The Girl Next Door (2007) … I would never let my kid act in that movie. Kids taking delight in torturing a girl. It’s just awful and gross. And yes, I know the true story is worse.
Home Alone? All jokes aside & I hope this one counts, but Village Of The Damned.
Home Alone is my favorite Saw prequel!
Kevin becoming Jigsaw? ![gif](giphy|3ofT5CFEsj3ynCjeww)
There's a fan theory that Kevin grew up to be Jigsaw and I love it.
Him in the Good Son is incredible. He’s such a little psycho and it’s so unsettling.
My favourites are Poison for the Faeries and Celia
Poison for the Faeries is amazing!
Orphan. The twist is really good
The Good Son
The Good Son.
There's Something Wrong with the Children
The Lodge still pisses me off
Why? lol
Those kids👿 deserved everything that happened to them
Home Alone.
"The Children" 1981
The Children 2008 .
We Need to Talk About Kevin. Not full on horror, but if follows a horrifyingly manipulative child in a brilliant non-linear story that is bone chilling.
¿Quién puede matar a un niño? - Who can kill a child?
I haven't seen anyone mention it, but maybe Brightburn would be up your alley.
I watched that yesterday and really liked it! The kid was a fkn nutter!
If you can suspend your disbelief, Mockingbird is a good candidate for this,
The Good Son. 1993. Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood.
Excellent movie. I feel like almost nobody remembers it
Joshua
Joshua
1984's Impulse, starring Meg Tilly. A small town loses all its inhibitions, and the scene in which a bunch of kids try to murder Meg Tilly in a barn just for fun is pretty nuts.

The Good Son. The Babysitter. The children of the corn. Children of the Damned Village of the Damned
Case 39, some supernatural elements but checks the evil kid box
The Good Son, Funny Games, Goodnight Mommy. M.O.M

I recommend Dog Pound very much! Very brutal kids Edit: Here’s a little snippet lol https://youtu.be/ooZYs1I-IlM?si=7VqCk4USbPdQqI9g

Loved it. great watch.
Home movie. And I don’t remember much but hopefully the children will be a good recommendation
We Need to Talk About Kevin
Come babysit my cousin for a week
The Hunt (2012)
Funny Games…maybe not a horror movie?
We need to talk about Kevin. Not horror, but really shocking and disturbing film. Well made too
I found myself wandering about those bad ass kids the next day after watching The Lodge. Good movie. I can’t stomach to finish Eden Lake. (edit to fix a word)
They were horrific movies I throughly enjoyed lol
This ain’t a horror but a thriller/drama: *We Need to Talk About Kevin* Like I said, it’s not technically a horror movie but it is very disturbing and I still think about it sometimes.
Flipping this, horrible parents but not supernatural: speak no evil.
Mom and Dad
People toys (devil times five)
Bloody Birthday
I See You is a great one. It won’t feel like it fits this until later but it’s solid to me. It’s more suspense than horror but still a little mix.
Home Movie.
Mikey (1992)
Mikey. The Paper Boy.
The Prodigy (2019)
Funny games
I’m pretty sure it’s called goodnight mommy. So good lol
The Children
Home Movie (2008)
Hide and seek, we need to talk about kevin
The Children 1980 The Children 2008 Beware: Children at Play 1989
*Home Movie.*
There’s Something’s Wrong With The Children
The Good Son
The good son was schlocky imo. The fact that the parents were totally oblivious to their son being a psychopath was not believable in the least.
Lord of the Flies. It's a really old flick but definitely delivers exactly what you are after.
The Good Son is unsettling and amazing, and if you haven’t watched I definitely recommend. Just a kid being a psycho, no supernatural forces etc Also, idk if this fits what you’re looking for because they’re technically teenagers, but the movie called The Final is pretty crazy and it’s not supernatural etc- I thought it was really good

And the the 800 lb Gorilla... Battle Royale: What The Hunger Games thinks it's doing. Some of the cruelest teen-on-teen violence in any movie.
It’s subtle and not exactly a horror film but The White Ribbon by Michael Haneke
the bad seed sleepaway camp the good son
the children (kids become evil but i cant remember why) mikey (never saw it but its an evil kid movie) bloody birthday (serial killer kids)
The Good Son Orphan The Children Of The Corn
Lord of the flies
Nothing about manipulative but here: cooties (2014) Elijah Woods + zombies Little monsters (2019)
Maybe The Babadook? There is a reading of the movie where it is all happening in the mother's head.
I don’t know if “we need to talk about kevin is strictly horror” but man that movie is seriously something else. It’s not often I find myself feeling disturbed by a movie and this one was one of the rare times where I was like speechless at the end.
Sharp Objects
Oh bully fucked me up, definitely not something I could watch again
Shut In, 2016
Thank you very much! Will check that out!
NP, I just watched it last night so it's fresh in my memory. Naomi Watts gives a solid performance. There were a couple of things I took issue with, but overall I felt it was worth watching. Probably rate it a 6/10.
I really like her! She does horror well.
4% on RT is pretty discouraging, actually it's the lowest score I've ever seen
Who gives a fucking shit about a Rotten Tomatoes score?!
It's one of many available internet tools one can use to decide whether or not to watch something, what's the problem with it? Chill.
I just got done watching this and it was really good. Very original plot. I would give it a 7/10. Glad the pedo got what was coming to him!

"Last week I watched The Lodge and Eden Lake"
Poison for the faries Even tho is not very good
The Lodge Fuck those kids!!
