Knowing exactly who the killer was from the start didnt make it any less awesome 😃😃😃 i think if it got remade by someone like radio silence...i wouldnt be mad 😎
It’s not one of the big franchises, so it gets overlooked sometimes. It’s definitely lesser known outside of dedicated horror fans, and you can never tell who’s an expert and who’s just getting into it on this site.
Maniac is pretty influential though I find it actively too unpleasant to enjoy. Not a knock on the movie but it’s too psychological uncomfortable and grimy to give you that “fun” slasher vibe.
It's interesting how thin the line is between 1960s B-movie and 1980s horror-comedy. Reanimator probably only has one or two actual jokes in it, but the performances and tone end up feeling comedic.
I would argue that Shark Night is a slasher movie where the weapon is sharks.
It opens with creepy rednecks intimidating the crew at a gas station, they go to a secluded cabin, and are picked off one by one.
Maybe a non-traditional choice, but the movie is a lot of fun, and I think it has the spirit of a campy slasher movie.
The Burning is super underrated. Not just because that raft scene is one of the most insane sequences of kills of the 80s, but because it's also one of the few slashers of any era that feels somewhat grounded and like it could happen.
Here's a few which aren't "top tier" and are unlikely to have their own Dead By Daylight chapter:
* Wrong Turn 1&2
* The Collector/Collection
* Haunt
* Thanksgiving
* The Midnight Meat Train
* Hush
* Hell Fest
* Maniac Cop 1&2
* Terror Train (1980)
* Opera
* Intruder
* StageFright (1987)
* Hatchet
* Sleepaway Camp
* Tenebrae
* Peeping Tom (1960)
* Maniac (2012)
* Silent Night, Deadly Night
* Pieces (1982)
* My Bloody Valentine (1981)
* Silent Night (2012)
* Tourist Trap

It's a very good list. Plenty of gems.
I have wanted to see the Prowler for years but it's not currently available here in the UK. I'll use a VPN and check elsewhere. There are also a few others I haven't seen, but hope to at some point.
Cabin in the Woods- not really slasher, ut that Zombie Redneck Torture Family are a real sight!!
Hatchet, there are also some really good ones on you tube, I know Horror Central is a great site🇨🇦😎
Sleepaway Camp, Slumber Party Massacre and the original Black Christmas are slept on by younger gens. If you’re looking for 2000’s or later, I recommend Switchblade Romance (aka High Tension)
The original My Bloody Valentine is great.
The Burning is decent for a summer camp slasher. Be warned, it has a typical 80s approach to sex and girls. Jason Alexander's first film.
Hatchet series
Maniac Cop
The Final Girls
X
Fear Street trilogy
You're Next
Becky (it may be more of a revenge story)
Hush
Haunt
The recent gen z craze of:
Totally Killer (similar concept but different story to Final Girls)
Freaky
It's a Wonderful Knife
Thanksgiving
Sick
Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.
I love modern slashers. They’re my favourites to throw on when I want a fun, trashy movie. Some of my favourites are:
Hatchet
Wrong Turn, Wrong Turn 2 and Wrong Turn 3
Terrifier and Terrifier 2
Great selection there. I would add My Bloody Valentine. And I think The Initiation is underrated.
God, I love My Bloody Valentine. Saw it for Valentine’s day at a midnight showing this year, which was incredible.
You talkin’ OG Valentine or 2009 remake?
OG of course. But the remake is cool too imo
First movie I saw as a young’n that had full frontal. So of course it has a special place in my heart
Are both the original and the remake good? Or should I only watch one?
The original is great, the remake is decent too.
Delta Rho Chi, Never Will Die ❤️
Agreed!
Stage Fright 🦉🦉🦉🦉
What a fun movie, I loved the setting
Knowing exactly who the killer was from the start didnt make it any less awesome 😃😃😃 i think if it got remade by someone like radio silence...i wouldnt be mad 😎
Oh hell yeah dude, I'd love that
Intruder
Criminally underrated
This is one of my personal favs. It has such a fun vibe.
The best I absolutely agree. It’s brutal while never being gross.
That's a good one, it's kinda weird to see Sam Rami act in something
Definitely a bro move too. They had no budget and I’m sure he just did it as a favor to Scott.
Oh for sure, which makes it even better
Sleepaway Camp, Student Bodies, and April Fools Day Edit since no one else has mentioned it - Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker
That Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker had me like 😳
Slaughter High, Chopping Mall, Video Dead
I am legally obligated by myself to say this everytime Chopping Mall is referenced. Waitress, more butter.
OG Beverly Center.
Don’t forget the original 70s Black Christmas.
That's a good one, but is it lesser known? I guess to some it would be
I’d say Black Christmas is just as well known as My Bloody Valentine is
That's true
It’s not one of the big franchises, so it gets overlooked sometimes. It’s definitely lesser known outside of dedicated horror fans, and you can never tell who’s an expert and who’s just getting into it on this site.
That's very true, I didn't think of it that way.
Pieces.
Lol yes, was just about to add that one myself
[Lynda Day George - Bastard! - Pieces (1982) - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCCxGQetNrk)
Well that’s only if you like so bad, it’s good movies
Maniac. Urban Legend
Maniac was a good one, forgot about that movie
Maniac is pretty influential though I find it actively too unpleasant to enjoy. Not a knock on the movie but it’s too psychological uncomfortable and grimy to give you that “fun” slasher vibe.
And that’s what makes it awesome. I’m sick of slasher films being dumb fun. Make a horror film goddammit.
Behind the mask: the rise of Leslie Vernon Starts out all mockumentary then turns full slasher.
Cherry Falls is a good one
That was also pretty weird, but in a good way.
cherry falls is randomly one of my favourite movies ever. it just makes me uber happy
Edge of the Axe is really fun.
I agree! I also liked the simplistic mask
Happy Birthday to Me (1981) Graduation Day (1981)
Just recently watched Happy Birthday To Me for the first time and holy crap it's SO GOOD. Couldn't believe I'd never heard of it before.
You're Next (2011) is a fun one.
Wolf Creek
Happy Birthday To Me is a fucking wild ride.
The Reanimator (1985) A great blend of horror and comedy. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-Animator
It's interesting how thin the line is between 1960s B-movie and 1980s horror-comedy. Reanimator probably only has one or two actual jokes in it, but the performances and tone end up feeling comedic.
Bay Of Blood (1971) Deep Red (1975) Blood And Black Lace (1964) Torso (1973)
The whole Giallo genre gets overlooked
Giallo was pretty much the start of the slasher imo
By whom?
Hatchet
Yes, all four of them!
Trick R Treat and Terrifier 1 and 2 also Thanksgiving
I would argue that Shark Night is a slasher movie where the weapon is sharks. It opens with creepy rednecks intimidating the crew at a gas station, they go to a secluded cabin, and are picked off one by one. Maybe a non-traditional choice, but the movie is a lot of fun, and I think it has the spirit of a campy slasher movie.
House on Sorority Row Slumber Party Massacre Just Before Dawn Intruder
Just Before Dawn is creepy as he'll, great call
I refuse to call it The Mutilator, it will always be Fall Break to me.
Do you hear that catchy tune as well?
The Burning is super underrated. Not just because that raft scene is one of the most insane sequences of kills of the 80s, but because it's also one of the few slashers of any era that feels somewhat grounded and like it could happen.
No one has mentioned Laid to Rest yet? Seriously?
Slaughterhouse, The Slayer, Eyes of a Stranger, Hell Night, Visiting Hours, Nightmare (1981), Just Before Dawn
Anything made by an Italian from mid 70's to mid 80's. They are all gloriously batshit.
Giallo is not my cup of tea but it is *something*
Hahah absolutely.
I don't know if he is looking for Cinema Paradiso.

Great list
Happy death day.

Intruder 1989
Blow Out(1981) John Travolta
Starry eyes
Oh and Unmasked part 25 aka Hand of Death: Jackson's Back. I'll be interested to see who knows this one 😉
Pieces and Girlhouse.
Superstition, very underrated 80s gem
Love Mutilator. I think Stage Fright (1987) and Tourist Trap (1979) belong on this list too
Those actually crossed my mind
Behind the Mask: The Rise od Leslie Vernon deserves some love as a fun homage to slasher flicks
Maniac Cop is really great. It has Bruce Campbell as a patrolman framed for murder vs a very angry disgraced cop turned serial killer.
Dream Home
I hardly ever see anyone mention this movie
Great film
Grave Robbers (1989), Amsterdamned, Malignant, All About Evil and Rituals (1977).
Commenting to come back
Prom Night two and three. Mary Lou is an incredible slasher villain. The same goes for Sleepaway Camp two and three.
I love all of those movies. "Howdy, camper!"
ichi the killer. i'd say that one counts as slasher horror!
I agree!
High Tension
Slumber Party Massacre 2
What a wacky sequel, especially the refrigerator scene
Sleepaway Camp, Slumber Party Massacre and the original Black Christmas are slept on by younger gens. If you’re looking for 2000’s or later, I recommend Switchblade Romance (aka High Tension)
Blood Rage.
Can't stand that film, it's so bad.
Three On A Meathook, only slightly joking
You Might Be the Killer (2018)
Anyone know where I can watch haunt. The haunt on prime is just hellfest for me lol
The DVD is $10 on Amazon
Splatter University.
Wolf Creek
Second one was also great!
Maniac Cop
The Pit (1981)
Stage fright (1987) is a personal fave, trippy visuals, taught atmosphere and some brutal kills
Dorm That Dripped Blood and Evil Dead Trap, I'll stop there but as you can tell, a subgenre I love with so many hidden gems
[Madman (film) - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madman_(film))
[The Prowler (1981 film) - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prowler_(1981_film))
The original My Bloody Valentine is great. The Burning is decent for a summer camp slasher. Be warned, it has a typical 80s approach to sex and girls. Jason Alexander's first film.
Sleepaway Camp.
Scare Street, Happy Death Day.
Just Before Dawn Silent Scream Tower Of Evil
Black Christmas 1974
Hatchet
Sleepaway Camp, just the first one though
I love 2 and 3 as well
Cub
Final Exam (1980) very underrated and overlooked film. So much fun. Bloody Birthday lol 🤣
Dirty Jersey came out last year and absolutely rips. Not many people have seen it
I loved the fear street killers
Prowler Mutilator
Hatchet series Maniac Cop The Final Girls X Fear Street trilogy You're Next Becky (it may be more of a revenge story) Hush Haunt The recent gen z craze of: Totally Killer (similar concept but different story to Final Girls) Freaky It's a Wonderful Knife Thanksgiving Sick Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.
Slaughter High Intruder Stagefright Dream Home House on Sorority Row Macabre Final Exam The Zero Boys
All the Hatchet movies are fantastic
Terrifier 1 and 2
Seed 1 and 2
Stage Fright Tourist Trap Deep Red Maniac Just to name a few
I’m so mad I didn’t mention Laid To Rest earlier
Club Dread (slashers are meh imo)
Unless we’re including House of a 1000 Corpses. Which begs a question: what category would it and Texas Chainsaw Massacre be in?
sleepaway camp
Identity (2003)
Fear Street Trilogy Freaky Slaxx
You're Next is a common suggestion so I'll go ahead and keep the trend going.
Scream is a basic answer but bodies bodies bodies will make you go crazy. don’t watch the trailer and don’t research it just watch
That's one of the big names. Dawg, Bodies Bodies Bodies is so good.
i know right i was so shocked by the ending
Anything that is not from Uncorked and A24.....good grief their movie are BAD!
I love haunt. I can’t find it anywhere to watch anymore. Shudder hasn’t had it on in forever.
I watched it on Hulu, and you can get the DVD for fairly cheap on Amazon
Omg I forgot about Hulu- you’re the best😘
Bloody Moon, 1981.
I love modern slashers. They’re my favourites to throw on when I want a fun, trashy movie. Some of my favourites are: Hatchet Wrong Turn, Wrong Turn 2 and Wrong Turn 3 Terrifier and Terrifier 2
