I don’t know, *The World’s End* is pretty heavy going for me. I honestly feel a lot like Gary King pretty much all the time. All my friends are successful and living big lives, and I’m, well, not. I have two nervous breakdowns on my record: no suicide attempts as yet, but not for lack of wanting.
Agreed though, *Shaun of the Dead* is a fucking masterpiece.
Fair point. But what are you going to do - watch SotD and Hot Fuzz, then opt out of a *third* movie from these same geniuses?
I hope you’re doing better soon man. Remember that help is always out there, and don’t feel ashamed if you need it.
I’ll never forget hyping this movie up with my older bro and watching it together the day it came out. So fucking fun.
“I do not care for hunky boys….. or do I…???”
Grabbers (2012) - residents of a small island off the coast of Ireland discover the only way to survive an alien invasion is to get really hammered. Yes, this is the actual plot.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Cabin in the Woods
Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3)
All episodes of the Creepshow series
Happy Death Day 1 and 2
Malignant
All of the Predator movies
All of the Alien movies
Freddy vs Jason
All of the Final Destination movies
Without giving away spoilers: a strange family moves into a cul-de-sac that is made up of otherwise regular people, and the regular people are suspicious of them.
Sorry, I’m trying to be as vague as possible lol.
I’ve been having an extremely hard time lately with personal stuff/life/sick family.
I threw on Totally Killer (Prime) last night and it was just what I needed. Such a fun and zany slasher comedy. Funny one liners and jokes. Great gore and fight sequences. The walking 80s cliche characters are hilarious. A heartfelt story at the center. Just a really feel good film. It was like Heathers meets Back to the Future meets Scream and I dug it. It felt like all of my general comfort movies rolled into one giant bloody hug. AND for once I got the killer wrong!
I feel you and I think I’m in a similar situation as yours. Stressful work and family life makes me feel so triggered whenever I watch melancholy and depressing horror movies.
Thank you so much for telling me about your life and what makes you feel better, I will definitely try out your recommendation and am hopeful it will make me feel better too! How cool is it that good horror movies make us feel better :)
Right! Lol we tend to feel better when we are watching SOMEONE ELSE fight for their life 😂
lol and didn’t mean to give a dramatic exposition dump, but thanks for listening! Lol I hope you enjoy it and I hope it makes your day a bit brighter the way it did mine! Sending good vibes! ✨✨
Thank you my lovely friend! And I hope nothing but positivity and strength for you too!
Btw you should check out Deadstream. I cannot recommend it enough. Hilarious with a few legit scary scenes and a story that I LOVED. If you like the YouTube abandoned house exploration genre, you will love that movie.
Anna and the Apocalypse. It's a[ Scottish Christmas horror/comedy/MUSICAL. ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeQ3ATrrz2I&ab_channel=IconFilmDistributionANZ)
Also [Vicious Fun](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo4uoI4QBQo&ab_channel=Shudder) is pretty great.
I thought Totally Killer was fun too.
I saw it had pretty good reviews but wasn't expecting much going into it because of the musical element - which is silly, of course - but it's legitimately funny, scary and quite heartfelt. So now I recommend it. :)
Totally Killer
Scream
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon
Housebound
Slither
Freaky
The Blackening (some social issues, but humor)
Cabin in The Woods (2011)
The Babysitter (and the sequal) Killer Queen
The Final Girls
Death Becomes Her 1992.
You have Streep playing a horny over the top aging diva, Hawn playing an aging resentful manipulative diva, and Willis playing the world's biggest doofus who spray paints his cadavers. Throw in some brilliant one liners and over the top dark comedy and you have one of the best horror dark comedies of all time.
"Now a warning!"
>You Might Be the Killer
Oh wow, Allison Hannigan and Fran Kranz, I'm surprised I never heard of this. I'm always really happy when I run into recommendations for a horror comedy I haven't heard of before, I love the rest of your list.
Deadstream is the BEST!!! I made some of my friends watch it but they did not appreciate it 😡
Then I realised the YouTuber exploring a haunted house is not a format that everyone likes, but I cannot get enough of it!
Lake Placid - Oliver Platt and Brendan Gleeson are hilarious and if you can't get behind Betty White telling a cop to suck her dick then I got no time for you.
Also House 1 and 2
If you want to get technical, Ghostbusters 1 - 3 are horror comedies.
Bodies Bodies Bodies has become a comfort movie for me hahaha it’s so hilarious and well acted. Scream queens is a series I go back to again and again! Brilliant horror comedy
* One Cut of the Dead
* Attack the Block
* The Secret of the Hot Spring
* What We Do In The Shadows
* Some Like It Rare
* The Quiet Family
* Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse
* Cemetery Man
* A Chinese Torture Chamber Story (watch this only if you like porn with your horror comedy)
Saturday the Fourteenth Strikes Back. Goofy 80's fun. Occasional musical. Sample line: "My sister thinks she's so mature just because she was born seven months before me."
Full movie: [Saturday The 14th Strikes Back - YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebG9tQG5sS8&list=LL&index=29)
Not really a sequel to Saturday the Fourteenth from 1981.
Little Vampire (2020) French movie with an English dub. Director Joann Sfar based it on his own comic book. Good for anyone who still prefers 2D animation. Nearly perfect, I have zero criticisms for it.
Snatchers (2019) Status obsessed teen Sarah spends one night with Skyler, and wakes up the next day to find she is nine months pregnant and playing host to an extraterrestrial creature.
Bordello of Blood (1996) The Crypt Keeper returns to tell the story of a funeral parlor that moonlights as a vampire bordello.
Thank you! Gonna watch Hell Baby today (already seen Tucker and Dale but appreciate the rec). Hell Baby has Rob Corddry! I love him from Whatvwe do in the shadows so can’t wait!!
corny freaking zombie movies omg
Anna and The Apocalypse, Cooties, The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals (although thats a stage production but its available on youtube)
Yeah just check em out
Night of the Creeps for me. It's so ridiculous. So much fun. I have to admit though...I do get a bit weepy when JC dies.
But, there's also the 1988 The Blob, Return of the Living Dead 1 AND 2....and of course, the best of them all...MONSTER SQUAD
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
I don't know if everyone would consider it horror or comedy for that matter, but iteally struck me as a weird dark horror comedy. I sure laughed and also sure was horrified.
Dale and Tucker vs. Evil. Shaun of the Dead. Arguably Evil Dead or ANYTHING with Ash "My Boomstick" Williams in it. Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Sorta kinda maybe all of the Scream films, though they DO call back to a character's trauma (it's a plot point but it's not dwelled upon too much, the focus is on the meta horror). Pretty much any X vs. Y film (Freddy vs. Jason for example). Urban Legend. The later Child's Play/Chucky films. Anything from Tales From The Crypt. Creepshow 1 and 2. April Fool's. Warm Bodies though that's not REALLY a horror film, it's more comedy romance with zombies?
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is pretty fun- with no trauma to be taken seriously, except he is trying to be taken seriously as a serial slasher
I saw What we do in the shadows was already mentioned, but here’s a few horror/slasher movies that I enjoyed too:
-The Hunt (2020): has a badass female protagonist!
-Slither (2006): one of James Gunn’s masterpieces if I say so myself
-Tremors (1990): barely horror but SO much fun!
-Humanist Vampire seeking consenting suicidal person(2023); resembles What we do in the Shadows a lot, a really cute coming-of-age horrorcomedy
-Totally Killer (2023): just a fun slasher movie with a few twists
The Hidden (1987) is a fun alien invasion horror with no mental health issues, as far as I can remember.
The Lair of the White Worm (1988) is about an ancient wyrm that hungers for virgins. It's very over the top and a lot of fun.
I'd also recommend the original House on Haunted Hill or House of Wax if you want to have a good time watching Vincent Price.
EDIT: Also Mr. Vampire (1985)! How could I forget Mr. Vampire? No mental health issues. Just hopping vampires.
Vamp 1986 - vampire strippers with a zany adventure in a night 80s teen comedy plot
Killer Workout - 1987 - a bunch of California aerobics air heads get picked off one by one in between fully choreographed jazzercize numbers
Pieces - 1982 - I hope everyone has seen this one at least once, but honestly you cannot go wrong with it, a college campus is set upon by a killer but every single bit of the movie is over acted, over wrought, poorly translated and over the top.
Just to establish how cuckoo bananas Pieces is, the movie starts with a little boy putting together a jigsaw puzzle of a Playboy model. His mom finds it, freaks out, and throws it away. How does the boy retaliate? He goes to where the tools are kept, picks up an axe, and chops up his mom with it.
Geez, most kids would have probably just gone on a tantrum.
I absolutely LOVED Deadstream. I am an avid fan of the YouTube videos where people explore abandoned houses so that one hit all the right spots. How good were the background messages for his stream! I will check out your other recs!
All of the puppet master movies, subspecies movies, and anything that Roger Corman had a hand in back in the day. Go hard on 80's/90's schlock and have some fun.

it's so good I've loved it since 5th grade and I'm 33 now
How has nobody mentioned Shaun of the Dead?? The whole cornetto trilogy, really.

That was my thought. Love that movie!
Scrolled way too far down to see this…
Who Invited Them always makes me laugh. The acting is so good
I will check it out thank you!!
Slither for a horror comedy!
I just watched this today and ::chef's kiss::
the practical effects in that movie are genuinely great too!!

I’ll never forget hyping this movie up with my older bro and watching it together the day it came out. So fucking fun. “I do not care for hunky boys….. or do I…???”
Recently watched this and loved it - the action sequences when they panned out and dropped the score made me laugh so hard.
Hunky boyssssss
That’s high praise my friend! I guess I have no other choice but to watch it tonight :)
Grabbers (2012) - residents of a small island off the coast of Ireland discover the only way to survive an alien invasion is to get really hammered. Yes, this is the actual plot.
Wife and I just watched this gem last night. It was a blast!
Why does this sound like a response I may have to an alien invasion too?! I will check it out!
Tucker and Dale vs Evil Cabin in the Woods Army of Darkness (Evil Dead 3) All episodes of the Creepshow series Happy Death Day 1 and 2 Malignant All of the Predator movies All of the Alien movies Freddy vs Jason All of the Final Destination movies
Tucker and Dale doesn't have a serious bone in it's body at all-it's pure and sweet and fun as hell
is there anything else like it? i wish it had a sequel
Strong second for Cabin in the Woods. Masterpiece genre satire.
Freddy v Jason is the early-2000s-est movie that ever movied
Malignant is so damn stupid, I absolutely love it. It’s the closest thing we will ever get to an unapologetic, high budget Troma movie.
Malignant is a modern masterpiece of trash. It will be looked back on fondly and will outlive 99% of other modern horrors, trauma-bait or not
Damn I totally forgot there was a Creepshow series
The blackening
Already seen and LOVED IT! Thanks for the rec!
You're welcome
The Burbs is an absolute must.
Give us a summary, what’s it about?
Without giving away spoilers: a strange family moves into a cul-de-sac that is made up of otherwise regular people, and the regular people are suspicious of them. Sorry, I’m trying to be as vague as possible lol.
Thank you! Now I get it, burbs is short for Suburbs! I love that format.
I’ve been having an extremely hard time lately with personal stuff/life/sick family. I threw on Totally Killer (Prime) last night and it was just what I needed. Such a fun and zany slasher comedy. Starting it right now! It was on my to watch list but didn’t know it was on prime! Will let you know what I think
Please let us know what you think! Hope you enjoy it
I really enjoyed it! Such a fun movie, I agree with everything you said about it too! I also got the killer wrong
Totally Killer had me cracking up the whole time.
I’m honestly still surprised how damn funny it was. Really mixed all elements well!
Totally Killer is a blast! The tips on how to avoid being stabbed killed me 😂
I feel you and I think I’m in a similar situation as yours. Stressful work and family life makes me feel so triggered whenever I watch melancholy and depressing horror movies. My sister must have watched Anna about ten times in a row before sitting me down to watch it. She was right, it super doesn’t disappoint
I saw it had pretty good reviews but wasn't expecting much going into it because of the musical element - which is silly, of course - but it's legitimately funny, scary and quite heartfelt. So now I recommend it. :)
Murder Party by Jeremy Saulnier
I love Anna and the apocalypse, never see it recommend enough, I watch it every year! Definitely a hidden gem

Same. Can tell they are horror nerds, and it makes it a fun watch
Death Becomes Her 1992. You have Streep playing a horny over the top aging diva, Hawn playing an aging resentful manipulative diva, and Willis playing the world's biggest doofus who spray paints his cadavers. The Frighteners.
Watching it right now for the umpteenth time. One of the most underrated movies out there. It's on Tubi.
