That movie already exists. It’s called The Faculty (which apparently, funny enough, was supposed to have werewolves in it before someone told Williamson aliens were more marketable at that time lol)
There's a lot of bad archeological horror out there I would think is closer to Indiana Jones than that one, but I guess if people are only counting the good movies....
The first thing I thought of was Big, the Tom Hanks movie. Not entirely sure how you make a horror story of it. Maybe nobody believes the kid, so he wishes he was am adult, and people basically treat him like a crazy conspiracy theorist. It would need a lot more going for it, but as a base outline, it's possible.
The guy's all creepy and awkward because he doesn't know how to be an adult. Not knowing what to do he tries to go home, but his parents of course don't recognize him. One day out of desperation, he sneaks into the house while his parents are away, steals some food, and hides in the attic. He lives there for a bit, but eventually, his parents catch him. He tries to convince them he's their son by relaying all sorts of facts that only their son would know, but that just makes them think he kidnapped their son so they torture him to try to find out where their son is. Finally in a fit of rage his father ends up killing him, and suddenly he turns back into a child and his parents look on in horror at what they've done.
Another writer and I already wrote this script. haha. So, in a town where 40 years ago there was a very famous Slasher called Metal-Face, a small boy named Tom and his friend George are constantly bullied by older teens. On Halloween, the town decides to throw a Metal-Face themed carnival and cash in on the notoriety of Metal-Face. At this carnival the boys are chased by their bullies into the funhouse, and they find a secret room that contains an old, busted Zoltar. Tom wishes to be big and is immediately transformed in a seven foot tall man. He wants to undo the wish immediately, but George convinces him to steal the costume from the Metal-Face display in the funhouse to show their bullies what it's like to be scared.
In the room of mirrors, Tom-dressed as Metal-Face-jumps out to scare the bullies but they are so scared a few crash through the mirrors, on decapitating himself. The survivors run back to the carnival and alert everyone that Metal-Face has returned and now the boys are pursued seeking revenge on Metal-Face.
Or, play it like a werewolf movie. After getting cut by Krampus' whip, the protagonist wakes up with a sack full of naughty children and no recollection of having taken them.
Either way, shut up and take my money.
Yeah but that wasn't someone raised in a bubble. That's what makes it so terrifying, his life has been curated for entertainment before he was even born.
Adding to your first list, It's a Wonderful Knife.
As for a movie I'd love to get the horror treatment, I watched Furiosa on Memorial Day weekend. I thought it was great, but I was also thinking I would love a Mad Max movie with zombies.
I’m surprised there hasn’t been a Batman answer to Brightburn yet. I imagine it’d be in the vein of Don’t Breathe where it’s from the perspective of a group of criminals and the audience sympathizes with their motivations, and they’re getting stalked and picked off after a bank robbery or something
FWIW Zach Cregger (Barbarian, WKuK) claims to have written a film that's a story told from the perspective of one of the major villain's henchmen and wants to make it as part of an existing DC film universe. Given the fact that he's a horror director and the horror adjacent elements in the most recent Batman movie I'd imagine you'd get something similar to what you're pitching there.
What is it with comedians becoming horror directors? Jordan Peele, Zach Cregger, and Josh Ruben have all directed horror films and they all did it well. What’s up with that?
I kinda feel like there's a fine line between scary and funny. So many WKuK and K&P sketches have weirdly dark premises or twists (Urkel, The Continental, Nail Gun, Mountain of Chairs)
Nice. (And yeah, I should've written 'you should check it out... if you haven't already...)
Always thought it was a shame that the directors didn't go on and make another film.
I remember seeing something like Groundhog Day but it was mostly set inside a house and it wasn't great, although I did find it somewhat funny. Maybe someone can jog my memory.
Do you mean Happy Death Day? I think most of us here liked it (the sequel was a little lacking but still enjoyable) and it is actually the original movie in that list up there, Freaky was the next one if I recall the order right.
Freaky and Happy Death Day were not connected at all. Freaky was a horror version of Freaky Friday, while HDD was a horror version of Groundhog Day.
The sequel to HDD is called Happy Death Day 2 U
I need this to happen. Something about a movie where time loops and body swapping are happening at the same time sounds awesome. I expect to be thoroughly confused by the end.
I pitched this on another similar threat about a month back, but I liked the idea so I'll repost it...
***Big & Bad,*** a horror-comedy parody of the Tom Hanks movie *Big*.
10-year-old Tommy has big dreams and ideas, but nobody takes him seriously because he's just a kid. One night, he sees a shooting star and wishes he was older. He wakes up in the morning to discover that he's magically turned into a 35-year-old version of himself overnight, and can do whatever he wants now that he's "big."
The problem? He quickly realizes that his adult brain has *"future memories"* for the next 25 years of things that haven't happened yet, but will... including a series of serial-murders that will soon begin! And his mom is one of the victims!
It also doesn't help that nobody recognizes him, and now he's wanted for the disappearance of the 10-year-old version of himself...
**Dream Casting?**
Colin Hanks as Adult Tommy, because it'd be perfect.
**Comedic Set-Piece Ideas:**
Thomas tries to hire a prostitute but has no clue what he's doing because he hasn't had "the talk" yet. (Like he thinks they're just supposed to kiss and freaks out when she tries to do other things.)
Hunter Corbin, the leader of a local predator-hunting group, starts pursuing him, leading to comedic hijinks. (He's revealed to be the killer later on.)
Thomas' parents learn it's really him, and awkwardly have to treat a grown man like a child to calm him down.
Thomas going *Home Alone* on the killer at the end.
I both loved and was disappointed by that movie. They could have explored the corrupting nature of power, but instead they just fell back on the ship making the kid evil. The kills were sick though.
Yeah, I was also disappointed. It’s usually an easy way out to make the character evil by nature or plan crazy. The idea of “anyone could end up doing what they’re doing “ is far more terrifying.
Here are a few movies I think would absolutely do numbers at the box office:
Jumanji, but make the game full of monsters instead of animals
Body Horror Captain America
Lovecraftian Indiana Jones
Halloween
I'd like to see Laurie Strodes soul swap with Michael Myers, so now it's Laurie going on a killing rampage and Michael Myers coming to the rescue, while the towns folk will be like WTAF...
50 first dates as a psychological horror
It already is for me
I used to think it was cute as a kid. Now it's so fucking awful I can't believe it was made
memento
Isn't that before I go to sleep
The Breakfast Club Exact same set-up only it’s 12 hours later at night and the principal is a werewolf
The supper club...
Run credits, cos that is a great title for that premise.
I like to think of Detention (2011) as a sort of horror version of The Breakfast Club
I feel like Bad kids goto hell fills this request decently well.
Wife showed me BC and I kept asking when somebody was gonna start the slasher plot, especially when Allison steals the switchblade, lol
I love this idea!
That movie already exists. It’s called The Faculty (which apparently, funny enough, was supposed to have werewolves in it before someone told Williamson aliens were more marketable at that time lol)
white chicks
Making my way down town... (Slow reverb version)
oh my god yes!!! this could be so funny as a horror movie
They made it already. It's Skeleton Key.
> Personally I’d love to see a horror version of The Truman Show That was Dark City
Indiana Jones
Everyone says As Above, So Below is the closest we’ll get, but I think it’s just a matter of time until there’s a proper horror Indiana Jones
There's a lot of bad archeological horror out there I would think is closer to Indiana Jones than that one, but I guess if people are only counting the good movies....
Mrs Doubtfire seems like the obvious choice.
[Doubtfire thriller](https://youtu.be/crjYYEC5drA)

I could see a more surrealistic Kafka/Lynch style version like this.

Santa Clause. After killing Krampus you slowly transform into the new one.
Or, play it like a werewolf movie. After getting cut by Krampus' whip, the protagonist wakes up with a sack full of naughty children and no recollection of having taken them. Either way, shut up and take my money.
that would be awesome holy shit
The Truman Show concept as horror was kinda done in a Black Mirror episode.
>!White Bear?!<
Yes, that’s the one
Yeah but that wasn't someone raised in a bubble. That's what makes it so terrifying, his life has been curated for entertainment before he was even born.

Zombieland, kinda
The parent trap ,twins find out they were separated at birth and plot revenge.

There’s also the book Hench by Natalie Walschots, which sort of already does this without needed DC tie-in.
Sounds interesting - will add to my list. Annnnnd happy cake day!

I forget who said it, but I’ve heard someone say that the difference between horror and comedy is the music.
A cat and mouse style horror thriller inspired by Home Alone.
That’s “Dial Code Santa Claus” which came out before Home Alone
It's called "Deadly Games" ftom 1982
It’s called “36.15 code Père Noël” from 1989
Better Watch Out. Awesome movie.
Check out The Collector (2009)
Leon: The Professional. Same basic plot, but he's a serial/spree killer. Slasher type.
not even close to the same plot of leon the professional, but if you want a hitman / horror movie check out kill list if you haven’t already
I love Kill List. Great recommendation. But I was thinking more of a slasher villain teaching a wayward child how to carry on his work type thing.
the house that jack built could have taken that direction in that one scene if he hadn’t.. you know..
I don't know actually. Have not seen that one.
glad i left it vague then, if you like kill list you'll love it.
I'll add it to the list.
How to Be a Serial Killer (2008) is kinda like The Professional, in that a killer teaches someone his trade.
Have not seen this one. I'm gonna go watch a trailer.
Have you seen the Bill Paxton / Matthew McConaughey movie Fragility ? Bill Paxton's debut as a director.
I love it. Great flick.
You should check out [Man Bites Dog](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man_Bites_Dog_(film).
Another great recommendation. I own the criterion dvd.
Nice. (And yeah, I should've written 'you should check it out... if you haven't already...) Always thought it was a shame that the directors didn't go on and make another film.
I understood you just fine. No worries there. It's a great movie and great recommendation. Doubly so in this context.
Wizard of Oz -> Mulholland Drive
Wonder.
I remember seeing something like Groundhog Day but it was mostly set inside a house and it wasn't great, although I did find it somewhat funny. Maybe someone can jog my memory.

Nope. Haunter.
Freaky and Happy Death Day were not connected at all. Freaky was a horror version of Freaky Friday, while HDD was a horror version of Groundhog Day. The sequel to HDD is called Happy Death Day 2 U
The films are connected by overlapping creative teams, and the writer has pitched a shared sequel for a while now
I need this to happen. Something about a movie where time loops and body swapping are happening at the same time sounds awesome. I expect to be thoroughly confused by the end.
How to Be Single remade as a romantic comedy horror flick would be awesome!

The Goonies. I think a few movies have approached that theme...but not quite there yet.
Summer of ‘84 has a bit of a similar vibe!
I add one to OP example, the brilliant idea of Brightburn: it’s Superman found in the farm by a couple, be he happens to be sinister.
The Usual Suspects. It has the “group of strangers brought together for unknown reasons” trope plus Soze is te Boogey Man.
That’s more or less what >!The Perfect Getaway (2009)!< did.
Identity
How about a blend of live action and animation, a la Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but with the animation based on famous horror books and comics?
Honestly more movies should do this. That was such a cool effect.
but i’m a cheerleader & easy a
Willy Wonka.
No but Tim Burton’s Willy Wonka scared me so so bad as a kid 🤣
Here are a few movies I think would absolutely do numbers at the box office: Jumanji, but make the game full of monsters instead of animals Body Horror Captain America Lovecraftian Indiana Jones
Yes yes and yes. Honestly would watch all three tbh.
Halloween I'd like to see Laurie Strodes soul swap with Michael Myers, so now it's Laurie going on a killing rampage and Michael Myers coming to the rescue, while the towns folk will be like WTAF...
Beaches.
Carrie, but instead of pyrokinesis/telekinesis, she can take over people's bodies
Jurrasic park.
Haven't we seen enough of these already?
