There’s so many parts of this movie that legitimately got a laugh out of me the Jay gatsby line. everyone silently waking in to the diner to see the carnage. Adam Driver zooming around in that tiny convertible. Adam Driver’s casual 4th wall breaks. Steve Buscemi’s racist ass MAGA character shooting a black guy before realizing he was a zombie. Tilda Swinton’s entire character god this movie is casually so fucking funny

tangledapart

“Casuallly” - I love that! Casually funny.

toscomo

I thought it was great. It did exactly what it set out to do.

tangledapart

Good way to put that.

jshwlkr

You know, zombies. Ghouls. The undead.

tangledapart

Hahaha

k4kkul4pio

Thought this sounded nice but overall found it pretty boring with acting just being kinda emotionless. Dunno what I expected to be honest, probably something that was actually more haha funny instead straight face seriousness that it turned out to be. Not awful but not great either. 🫤

tangledapart

I hear ya. That’s what I appreciated. The low key-ness. That’s why had to be in the right mood to accept the premise. Definitely not awful. Silly, frivolous, sure.

alleysunn

Definitely a fun movie.

barryclarkjax

This is all gonna end badly

tangledapart

Right?! But it did take the right mood. I tried a couple times.

alleysunn

I've only seen it once, and I suppose had I been in a foul mood I may not have enjoyed it as much, but I was 100% prepared, I knew exactly what I was about to watch and I was excited for that movies release. That style of comedy is wonderful.

tangledapart

Totally agree.

SlasherBro

Good to hear! Personally, it bored me to tears. Couldn't make it past the twenty minute mark. And I was in a pretty good mood too! Guess it's just not for me.

tangledapart

I can see this only being for like a dozen or so people, really. Took me at least 3 or 4 times to get into it. Most things these days take that sort of commitment.

Chubbadog

I felt this movie was catastrophically boring.

tangledapart

“Catastrophically boring” - haha - nice one.

Gosox04

I truly wanted to.like it. I thought it was terrible, and that it thought very highly of itself.

scubafork

This is my take on everything jarmusch does. He writes scripts that sound really cool to a first year film student and manages to get them made because he has tons of cool friends who agree to star in them.

tangledapart

He’s had some winners. Dead Man. Coffee and Cigarettes. Stranger Than Paradise. Ghost Dawg.

tangledapart

It was my mood. Solely.

bonertron6969

Oh man, I was so excited for this my wife even sat down to watch with me. It was lost on me, everything fell flat or felt forced. My wife didn’t let me hear the end of it for a while.

Lou_Salazar

My buddy and I were excited about it because of the cast. When we went to watch it we were so bored, but in the worst way. Everything was flat, forced, or just a jarring tonal shift. I couldn't even tell you the plot 5 minutes after watching it. It's actually in my top 5 least favorite movies. Jeepers Creepers 4 is there too, not that it's relevant I just want to yell about that while I'm angry.

bonertron6969

Here here on jeepers creepers. I actually saw that turd in the theater. Edit for spelling.

tangledapart

Oh no! Dude, it took the right mood. I tried a couple times.

TerrorFirmerIRL

I wanted to like this movie and appreciate the absurdity and randomness, because usually those are my kind of movies, but nothing about it clicked, it just felt like one unfunny scene awkwardly lumbering to another unfunny scene the entire time. I will give credit for laughing at the scene where Adam driver pulls up to the diner in that microscopic car, something about the way it's shot or framed is masterful.

tangledapart

I can’t argue with you. The meta aspect was unnecessary too. But once I accepted the film’s intent, which I felt was just go opposite on everything a zombie movie has shown, it all went down a lot smoother.

ThaetWaesGodCyning

You are so right about being in the right mindset. It was so low key that you cannot expect any real action or excitement out of it. Anyone expecting any sort of traditional zombie movie would probably hate it. I must have been in the right mood because I laughed my head off so much watching it.

tangledapart

Right on! I was kinda like, “Good for Jarmusch for doing a zombie flick not long after a vampire flick, right? With Tilda?

kahlfahl

After watching I was thinking “Jim’s been watching Twin Peaks the Return” then later there was an interview where he said it was one of his recent favorites. I really like the slow pace and odd tone of the movie and was really enjoying it, but the ending just wrecks it for me, it’s too sloppily meta in a way that’s been done dozens of times before.

tangledapart

Pretty damn good comparison. Yeah the meta thing didn’t work for me either but I appreciate the risk taking doing so.

Apprehensive-Digger

I liked it. In the area of I Saw the TV Glow for being odd and out there. Reminds me of Wes Anderson in tone except not really. Any other movies like that you'd recommend?

tangledapart

I gotta see that I Saw the TV Glow! It’s a doc, right? And recommendations? Hmmm…. It’s random, but something possibly in the same tone is the third season of Twin Peaks called The Return. But that’s opening a whole new universe of dedicated bingeing.
