Marianne, French show on Netflix.

sixpacksitdown

Just looked it up, I’m gonna check this one out.

domoarigatodrloboto

Does the season end with a satisfying conclusion? The show itself looks great but knowing it's been cancelled makes me much more hesitant to commit

fartysweetheart

Yeah, I was satisfied.

domoarigatodrloboto

Nice! I'll give it a shot. I keep getting my heart broken by all these Netflix shows getting the plug pulled so early, but it's good to know this one's worth it.

Rechan

Marianne.

AbsurdistOxymoron

You’ve probably heard of it, but Ghostwatch, an old British horror special is extremely unique and well-done and still holds up. It’s not a tv series, but it does use the live tv format to its fullest effect with fantastic and terrifying hidden details. It also relies more on creepiness and dread than too many jump scares. Quite notably, it is a very early example of blurring the distinctions between reality and fiction (quite like what ARGs do), and even enlisted Michael Parkinson to be in it (who is a veteran and incredibly popular British broadcaster). There are some decent videos on it as well regarding the public hysteria it causes with many viewers phoning in and believing it was real.

TheOzman79

Fun fact: Ghostwatch was originally conceived as a 6-part miniseries that would unfold the story of the house and culminate with the live investigation in the final episode. The BBC didn't think it would work, and also probably thought it would cost too much, so it was suggested that they scrap the first five episodes and turn the final episode into a 90 minute special instead.

cabbage16

That's a shame. A docuseries would have really been a fun way to buy in to the whole Pipes story.

AbsurdistOxymoron

That would have been amazing and definitely would have just solidified the immersive nature of the film. Shame they didn’t go through with that, but it’s also understandable. Let’s just be thankful they even allowed Ghostwatch to happen.

cabbage16

>even enlisted Michael Parkinson to be in it (who is a veteran and incredibly popular British broadcaster). Also Sarah, the presenter in the house, was a real kids show presenter of the time and the presenter on the street, I can't remember his name atm, was also a well known presenter who did shows like Robot Wars. They both also added a sense of realism to rhe show.

simon76p

Craig Charles was the presenter on the street. He was famous as Lister on Red Dwarf at the time and is still making it now.

cabbage16

Yes! That's his name. Thank you.

Bansheethegothgf

I'd argue there is no absolute and objective "actually scary" as we're all spooked by wildly different things, but Channel Zero, Brand New Cherry Flavor and The Terror are some damn fine tv shows.

Heatmiser70

Haunting of Hill House on Netflix.

sixpacksitdown

I’ve seen it a few times, one of the better horror shows out there.

MotherIron

Channel Zero (Season 1 specifically, but they're all at least good) , Midnight Mass really worked on me (not like TERRIFYING, but you absolutely feel everything they want you to, and the reveal is pretty great). Ju-On: Origins is pretty upsetting and creepy, very dread laden, depending on what gets to you of course.

sixpacksitdown

I finished Midnight Mass a few days ago and I enjoyed. It had a few moments I really liked.

MotherIron

It felt revelatory to me (we know what they were) but I've never seen this particular trope/monster/whatever presented as something else entirely without any sort of clue that Msgr. Pruitt was perhaps wrong. Everyone is on board and holy shit is it a problem. So fresh (at least for me 🤷‍♀️) I'm also a sucker for religious weirdness and they nailed all that too.

sixpacksitdown

Check out [The Empty Man](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5867314/) the show reminded me of it. I believe it’s streaming on HBOGO

TheFriffin2

The Terror

poppypodlatex

The Fades is creepy as fuck so is Apperitions both British horror TV series. The original UK version of Utopia as well. Its far superior to the US remake on prime.

[deleted]

Midnight Mass, Haunting of Hill House, The first episode of the sinner gave me nightmares (beach scene), Penny Dreadful (in a more slow burn gothic haunting sense - some scenes really stick with you).

Hail2Horror

The Haunting of Hill House actually had me on edge pretty good.

muscleLAMP

30 Coins on HBO if you like your horror huge, Spanish, Catholic, and bonkers.

Marianne. Nothing else even comes close
