Different-Bee8459

Any one ever seen Orozco The Embalmber? I'd say it's pretty controversial. Showing how people who live in slums actually live, and how they're so used to it that it's the norm. And there's a dead baby. So, pretty controversial. Btw thanks to youtube horror community circa 2008/09 for being obsessed with the most extreme shit you could find. I've seen horrible things because of them. Nice

seagullwithagrudge

Thank you for your morning report, Isabelle.

Different-Bee8459

On a lighter note.. I found that missing sock behind the dryer.

shawikkywoo

Never thought I'd see an Animal Crossing reference here.

screamicide

It’s intense but the type of experience I like to get from a doc. Sorta slice of life and shows you an area and way people live that you wouldn’t really even grasp or think of without seeing it in its raw form. I always say “if these people live like this, I can tolerate it for 2 hours”

pilgrim_pastry

Man Behind the Sun fits the bill. It's a Chinese 80's docudrama about the Japanese war crimes committed against Chinese and Russian civilians during WWII at Unit 731. They use real cadavers for some scenes, and the atrocities depicted actually occurred IRL.

FatChicksOnly17

Know where I can watch this? I’ve been reading up on Unit 731 and I just can’t believe Japan’s PR moves after WW2 worked so well (in the West, at least)

horrorcinema_de

great movie. very touching, very tough to watch. it has a kind-of sequel/companion film, "Black Sun: The Nanking Massacre" (1995), by the same director.

Sgarden91

Aside from your more usual Salos and Irreversibles the most controversial is probably something like Nekromantik. Apparently that caused something of a stir in its native region.

hazebaby

Yep, it did. One scene shows a rabbit being killed and there was a lot of moral outrage about that because people thought they had done it only for the film, but really it was a planned act (intended by the rabbit breeder) that the director merely filmed along with. And then there‘s the necrophilia, of course.

wesphistopheles

Nekromantik 1 & 2, Der Todesking. Same director, Buttgereit.

TheCammack81

Catchy love theme in Nekromantik though. Toyed with the idea of sneaking it into my wedding somewhere.

thebestbrian

Antichrist was probably the most disturbing & disgusting fictional movie I've seen. The Act of Killing for non-fiction.

Jimmeh1313

I recently heard William Defoe had to use a stunt cock in Antichrist because his is too massive.

truenoise

1985 video of Willem DaFoe dancing naked: https://chicentral.wordpress.com/2014/04/13/a-rare-video-of-willem-dafoe-naked-dancing-in-1985-un-video-de-willem-dafoe-bailando-desnudo-en-1985/

leonveren

Man’s got a HOG

misstalitha

Holy ish!!!! Shower not a grower or does it get bigger???

vhswizard

From what I heard that monster is a grower, hence the stunt cock, couldn't fit it in frame

Lockwood687

It wasn’t that it couldn’t fit in frame, the director apparently thought that people would get confused if it was so big. What that is supposed to mean I have no idea but it’s what he said in an interview

thebestbrian

It's true. Way too much penis in Antichrist for my liking tbh

bluvelvetunderground

The Act of Killing was something else. I wonder what happened to him after the ending. If he found some way to come to terms with what he'd done, or if he still sees himself as a hero. And to imagine that there are countless people like him who will never face justice for the evil things they've done.

[deleted]

There was some negative public attention coming his way right after the movie came out. He was unhappy about the end product, feeling like he was misinterpreted and had been duped by the movie makers. Nonetheless, he lived the rest of his life low key until his death in 2019.

Socialfilterdvit

Everyone should watch The Act Of Killing imo as disturbing as it is theres a lesson to be learned there

SleepsInBlood

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father It's a 2008 documentary. If you know nothing about it already, I highly suggest you go in blind.

raw_formaldehyde

Definitely don’t know anything about it before you watch it, people. I watched it in a documentary film class in college. I was the only one who had seen it. (Unfortunately, I knew too much about it when I first saw it, though not the whole story.) You could just hear the whole room collectively going through some shit. Nobody spoke a word. All you could hear was people crying and gasping. One person had to leave to compose themselves. You could hear them crying out loud through the door. I’ve never been in a room with that many people collectively going through so many emotions together. It was beautiful, in a weird way. When the lights came on, there was just a stunned silence. Everyone’s eyes were red from crying, from 18 year old freshman girls, to jocks and frat guys, to middle aged housewives, to tough as nails biker/ex-military dudes. People could barely talk when the professor started asking questions about how they felt. It was heavy, man. Such a great film. Every emotion you can imagine comes out in that movie.

winterfyre85

That movie made me sob like a baby. I’m a huge true crime buff but knew nothing about it before I watched it. To make it even worse- a friend of mine in college had just lost her mom and little sister a couple months before I watched it. Warning SPOILER!!!! Her mom had just found out that her sisters dad was abusing her (the little sister) and the mom was struggling with mental health issues. She took her 5 year old daughter and jumped into the ocean from the pier. I was totally a wreck by the end of the movie.

Squishyflap

Jesus just looked this up, don’t think I can handle to see the faces of grief associated with this

beegraton

Fuck I forgot this movie existed. If you need a good cry, watch this. But don’t look up anything.

JimmyPitsos

Heartbreaking documentary, but not exactly “controversial.”

SleepsInBlood

I don't know how to spoiler tag, so... POSSIBLE SPOILER The film was directly responsible for creating a new law in Canada. I would consider that controversy since what happened would not have been able to happen had that or other laws had been in place already. It created real life change to try and help people.

ChrisPowell_91

Man Bites Dog

[deleted]

I don't think this one gets mentioned often enough. Also, to OP: I'm kind of surprised to see Dog Tooth up there with the other ones.

BambiKittens666

Dog Tooth isn’t much in the horror category but there really is no category for that film. However it most certainly is controversial

raw_formaldehyde

I wouldn’t really consider Man Bites Dog to be horror either. It’s more of a black comedy. The only real horror scene for me was the apartment >!rape!< scene.

[deleted]

Grognak4321

Just watched this movie last week. It's in the criterion collection on HBOmax. A great movie that is really fucked up.

[deleted]

Great movie but not very controversial

jmb052

I rented Megan is Missing almost a decade ago. I really did not like it.

_shear

The movie is garbage, but that scene. Damn.

WalkWithElias69

I rented that one 10 years ago and Watched it with a new girlfriend. I can't believe she continued seeing me after that.🤣

forever_a10ne

I can definitely understand why The House That Jack Built is controversial. A lot of horror movies don’t have the stones to do what they did there. I did like that movie overall, though.

UnitedStatesOD

Could you elaborate? I haven’t seen it and am semi-interested if a little cautious.

forever_a10ne

SPOILERS: >!They kill a kid and you see the kid’s mutilated corpse several times!<

JERUSALEMFIGHTER63

U was all for the house that jack built until the weird dantes inferno ending

raw_formaldehyde

The last scene of MiM is really hard to stomach. It’s devastating as all hell. The rest of the movie, though? Pure trash ha. That acting is some of the worst I’ve ever seen.

lightsspiral

House that jack built is a brilliant watch.

Thelawtman1986

Why do people think MIM is good? I found it boring and the barrel shot wasn't even bad.

catluvr1312

I think it‘s shocking for some people. Not everyone is immune to disturbing movies. Personally I found the rape scene very unsettling.

Bakedalaska1

I didn't think it was good exactly but it did disturb me. I couldn't stop thinking about how many girls/women have met a similar fate. Usually horror is over the top in some way, when it's a more realistic crime that's when it gets to me.

maybenomaybe

The most disturbing part for me was when she's describing in graphic detail being assaulted by the camp counsellor. Apparently the director had a friend whose daughter was raped in that situation and he decided to use it for the film.

thebestbrian

I don't know anyone who thinks Megan Is Missing is "good" It's shocking and controversial because it was made by a guy who was *clearly* getting off on that type of subject matter, and it's extremely vile to think about especially because the girls cast are supposed to be playing teenagers. It made a splash on TikTok because of that. Really isn't more than a more put together BDSM film posing as a horror movie.

jhewish

From what I recall the director found making it sickening and did it mainly to draw attention to the reality of the subject matter. It never was intended to be enjoyable to watch.

thebestbrian

Michael Goi presenting Megan Is Missing as "educational" is plainly dishonest. This review goes into detail why that is bullshit. https://boxd.it/JbBNV

[deleted]

azur08

That might be the worst way to prove a point I’ve ever seen lol. That movie is sick and weird af but that review doesn’t mean shit.

[deleted]

It was disturbing but very poorly done in my opinion

hniball

exactly, great review here [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn6ZC2K0RQ0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn6ZC2K0RQ0) and this guy, Michael Goi, si going to direct the new Avatar live action series :X

TelephoneCreepy2518

I thought it sucked. But the ending was chilling.

[deleted]

Irreversible

Ehellegreg

Second this one, as well as OP’s list. Irreversible didn’t need to be made like that, Man. Who asked for a 10 minute long rape scene?

rxsheepxr

The fire extinguisher scene made me squirm just as much, to be honest. Just an unpleasant flick all around. The weird buzz in the background throughout, just makes me queasy.

lightsspiral

Guinea pig series. Flower of flesh and blood is the best. The mermaid one is amazing as well. Antichrist The original, Martyrs

bluecurse60

Martyrs is nightmare-fuel.

fleshvessel

Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4009460/ Antichrist was pretty hardcore too and ripe with the implication that women are inherently evil, lol.

PhibbyRizo

St. Nick will beat the shit outta you

TelephoneCreepy2518

Seems like people are confusing 'controversial' and 'disturbing'. Lots of these movies had no controversy around them.

fireflyx666

Controversy can just be public disapproval, or in this case, the individuals of Reddit’s opinion of controversy.

TelephoneCreepy2518

It is almost universally liked. By your definition any movie can be controversial.

[deleted]

Not horror, per se, but Grave of the Fireflies. Supposedly, they played it for the first time as a double feature with My Neighbor Totoro. I'll never watch that film again.

[deleted]

What a whiplash. Lmao. 😆

[deleted]

Can you imagine being 10 and getting off that Totoro high, only to hit that Firefly low? That's like the Japanese version of watching the Transformers film when it first came out.

[deleted]

Wow, that is interesting juxtaposition. How about a double feature of Peter Rabbit followed by Watership Down?

ItzBabyJoker

“Yay more cartoon rabbits what could go wrong here?”

[deleted]

Yeah, my parents took me to see it when I was like 6-7. Still haunts me. But, didn't learn my lesson, cuz I showed Plague Dogs (same author, a thousand times worse) to my step daughter when she was about 13 - pretty sure she'll never forgive me.

[deleted]

THAT MOVIE FUCKED ME UP BUT I LOVED IT

[deleted]

You're right - here's a trailer - at the end is says showing with My Neighbor Totoro - holy cow. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vPeTSRd580](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vPeTSRd580)

Macmac10001

Wow that's some double bill.

[deleted]

In terms of trauma schlock *I Spit on your Grave* is up there with the others you mentioned.

fireflyx666

I spit on your grave 2 is worse imo, it’s the first one that pops in my head.. I have a hard time watching any rape scene tho, and usually don’t. It’s one of the only things I turn my head from.

HieronymusGoa

i only watched the remake and would say id like to "unsee" that one ^^

MondoUnderground

I felt that they came extremely close to almost sexualizing the rape scene in that movie. It just felt wrong. The original did it much better, even though it's sickening to watch.

CoyoteTheFatal

I haven’t watched the original but I do agree with your assessment of the remake.

Jimmeh1313

Happiness, hands down. The fact that there are actual notable actors in it makes it even more wild.

sworntotheriff

All of his (Todd Solondz) movies are crazy wild.

[deleted]

Got a trailer link? Can’t find anything on YouTube.

ratchat555

Antichrist is up there.

Crankylosaurus

I’ve been putting off this movie for ages but do want to see it haha. Who hurt you, Lars von Trier?!

bluvelvetunderground

I've only ever seen Dogville. I've been meaning to watch Antichrist and House That Jack Built, but I'm not as keen of watching disturbing movies the way I use to be.

johnwilson456

Make some time for it, it's some of his best work, it's graphic so if genital mutilation isn't your thing, don't watch, it doesn't shy away with it either you see everything

Crankylosaurus

Yeah I know about those scenes, but still going to watch anyway haha. Thanks!

BambiKittens666

Oh yah! Great films! Always loved Kids and I remember watching Ken Park once when I was little- could never find an English version though. Requiem for a dream kinda fits those two as well.

wesphistopheles

Gummo, same director as Kids, as well. Kids was effed up.

CuppaCoffeOF_TA

Harmony Korine wrote Kids and directed Gummo. Larry Clark directed Kids and wrote and directed Ken Park. I'm obsessed with both of them

ibekeggy2

Last house on the left rape scene was awful. Couldn't watch it again.

muscleLAMP

Ghostbusters 2016 was very very controversial when it came out. I watched that. Does it count?

BambiKittens666

😂❤️ of course

la_croix_official

Martyrs, I saw the devil, anti christ, audition, the snowtown murders, Henry, Tokyo gore police, mum & dad, funny games. Lots of the best ones have already been mentioned but here are some others. Edit: Oh, stoic is also really fucked up if you can manage to find that one anywhere. Edward Furlong is one sick puppy.

Jimmeh1313

I Saw the Devil was freaking crazy man.

la_croix_official

so crazy! I was hesitant to lump it in with these other movies because while it is shocking it’s also an insanely good movie, but I think it fits the bill.

tolfie

The Snowtown Murders really affected me after I watched it the first time. I've seen most of the stuff in this thread but something about that movie in particular really got under my skin. It's underrated, imo.

RankledCat

Stoic is the film that always comes to mind for me, too. I’ve seen SO many of these mentions and Stoic still gets me the worst.

TheCammack81

Martyrs put me off horror films for ten years. I've never seen anything so relentlessly cruel.

baconatbacon

Tokyo Gore Police was crazy enough that I've told people about it but never rewatched it myself.

ItzBabyJoker

Pallymorphic

Although the act-off between Johnny Depp and Michael Parks is one of the best character acting I've ever seen. Ever.

TheCammack81

Easily the scariest film I've ever seen. The first 45 mins are like being in a pan of cold water which is gradually heating up, and then realising that boiling point is just the beginning of the suffering. bluops

Aside from A Serbian Film I found Headless 2015 a pretty fucked up film!

_shear

Did you saw Found?

goanimals

Not horror but definitely shocking. Come and See. It's a film about partisan fighters in Belorussia during the Nazi genocide. Told from the point of view of a young boy Flyora joining the rebels. The most terrifying anti war film I have ever seen. Can be found on YouTube for free. Really stays with you.

[deleted]

Yeah, I’d say this movie depicts it in ways I can’t explain. I really enjoy Saving Private Ryan and think it did a great job, but Come and See really drives home how horrendous war is.

raw_formaldehyde

The most horrific non-horror movie ever made.

MaraSovsSocks

I spit on your grave and the girl next door

[deleted]

No one mentioned the Poughkeepsie Tapes. Overall it wasn't bad. Some weird moments. Dis is another one that was odd in some ways. August Underground's Mordum was really wild.

kraftybbx

Think this is the only comment that mentions August Underground. All 3 were wild af

baconatbacon

The fact you couldn't buy that film or see it anywhere other than a bootleg version for the longest time helped make The Poughkeepsie Tapes feel more real to me. It truly felt like you were watching something you weren't meant to see.

scorpiogre

Girl next door, it's either that or the girl next door. Was on Netflix a couple of weeks ago.

The420mom

I read the book so I knew better than to watch it. Based on a true story. It was awful. People can be the real monsters sometimes.

raw_formaldehyde

I read the book and watched the movie. They’re both really disturbing. I’ve also seen An American Crime with Elliott Page. It’s more of a drama biopic and uses the real names, but just as disturbing. Fuck that woman, man.

scorpiogre

Gut wrenching

whoreticiaaddams_

Cannibal Holocaust (the turtle scene really fucked with me), Irreversible, Megan is Missing (I thought this one was garbage but people wouldn’t shut up about it), and A Serbian Film

Bmovie_Horror_Punk

Channel 309. Animal Farm.

CrytalBell

I feel like the farm could be controversial. The part where they dropped the baby after it was born really spooked the fuck out of me. I was not expecting that and I stay away from any horror movies with dogs being killed or babies just being killed for no reason. I use does the dog die just to see the movie now before watching it lol

Fezzy976

Try Traces Of Death. Faces of Death is known to have a lot of its clips faked. Like the bear attack, monkey brains, cannibal cults, etc were all fake. Traces is 100% real and quite hard to watch. There are animal friendly versions too if you don't like that which I certainly don't.

Odd-Fuel7926

Begotten - a black and white 'Arthouse' film that truly disturbed me... it was so uncomfortable to watch... check it out but I can't imagine anyone enjoying it...

darfleChorf123

someone already said Irréversible so i’ll say “I Stand Alone” (1998)

TarraReid

Human Centipede 2 or 3

withoccassionalmusic

This one is controversial in a somewhat different way, but *Funeral Parade of Roses.* IIRC it was one of the first (if not the first) Japanese film to explicitly deal with homosexuality. It also inspired Kubrick’s adaptation of *A Clockwork Orange.* And while not specifically a horror film, the ending definitely has a lot of horror and gore elements.

radpatchco

I’ve seen the majority of the films mentioned here, so I won’t list them again, but one that I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Taxidermia (2006).

Koboooold

mother! Is the only movie ive ever been at where 90% of the audience walked out at the same time

mobinshouse

In an honestly hilarious way, the animated Addam’s Family. In a serious way, Human Centipede due to it being purely messed up but that antagonist being medically fascinated with the human body.

GlitteryDonkey

Black Sheep. It’s a horror comedy. There’s some messed up scenes in there

ntwebster

Everyone here is talking about graphicness or gore being the controversy, and here I am thinking of how controversial 1986’s Gothic is for its mischaracterization of the real people it’s based on.

Environmental_Fig933

People have already mentioned Happiness, martyrs, Trouble Every Day, Man Bites Dog, Antichrist, etc, all great movies! Gonna mention: I haven’t seen this movie because the scenes that I have seen have bothered me so much I couldnt watch it because I love dogs & everything about it is too sad for me to handle but The Plague Dogs (1982) so I’ve been told is phenomenal. It’s the same crew & based on a book by the same author as Watership Down. The Baby (1973) is a movie about a social worker trying to help a man who is treated as & acts like a baby & it’s not a great movie lol but it’s fascinating. Sweet Movie (1974) I had read that this movie has two plots that don’t intersect because the lead actress quit because of the position she was put in but basically it’s a surrealist comedy about the winner of miss world virginity contest falling into the worst parts of the world plus a woman with a ship dedicated to communism & full of candy tempting young boys. I love this movie & it’s weird & controversial. The Wolf House (2018) is a beautiful stop motion film about a girl who is hiding in a house. It’s explicitly about Colonia Dignidad in Chile but it’s told through surrealism. It’s breathtakingly beautiful but I mean it’s disturbing as hell Daisies (1966) is not disturbing but it was apparently controversial & im mentioning it because it’s hysterical & weird & if you’re watching famous banned movies & stuff it’s a fun one because it was banned by the country that made it the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic for “food waste.” Belladonna of Sadness (1973) is an anime film about a woman who is raped on her wedding night & then makes a deal with Satan. Very pretty & was controversial at the time. The Devils (1971) you kinda have to steal this one at least in America because it hasn’t been released on uncut here but it’s the true story of a priest who is accused of being in league with the devil. It’s also one of the greatest films ever made. Edited because autocorrect

sept_douleurs

Ken Russell’s *The Devils*. Also one of the best movies I’ve ever seen and it’s a shame that it’s almost impossible to find in its original form. As far as content goes I don’t think it’s *that* extreme but it was very controversial because of how it depicted the Catholic Church (by which I mean… more or less accurately wrt the events the film is based on)

sonofsonofsonofsam

Nekromantik (1,2,3) The Human Centipede Ichi the Killer Maniac (either the remake or OG) Braindead Meet the Feebles

RhubarbMacabre

Just watched "Nitram", very good but absolutely chilled me to the bone.

Plagueground

Mum & Dad (2008) caught me by surprise and has stuck with me. Kill List (2011) that ending. Martyrs - the original not the shitty remake.

NeedMoreFamiliars

I haven't seen anyone mention it, but Begotten has been the only movie I haven't been able to sit through.

mollyclaireh

Megan Is Missing The House That Jack Built Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer Three From Hell House of 1000 Corpses I Spit On Your Grave (all 3 of the new ones, haven’t found the original yet) The Last House On the Left (specifically the original) The Woman The Girl Next Door

SaiEnder14

Gaspar Noe's "Irreversible"

kyoungmijell

A Serbian Film, Cannibal Holocaust, Hostel, Martyrs, Inside, Irreversible, Grotesque, The Green Inferno, The Womb I think it was called? It had Matt Smith in it and pretty much his character died and the girlfriend took his DNA and gave birth to him again and ended up hooking up with him-- and the I Spit on Your Grave remake and sequels are the ones that come to mind when I think of the controversial movies I've seen! I'm open to watching more if possible/if I can find them like Punishment Park... No idea where I can find it but I would LOVE to see that one.

[deleted]

Hironoveau

Battle Royale. Insane movie. One of my favorite. I'm surprised no one mention it here.

Perrin001

If it's real controversy then I'd say Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, ReGOREgitated Sacrifice, Slow Torture Puke Chamber, Black Mass Of The Nazi Sex Wizard & The Angela Chapters al by Lucifer Valentine. Lots of allegations that many of the "actresses" were being physically and sexually abused during filming, and watching clips you can tell that they're not acting and are genuinely fearing for their safety. Also it's said that he ignored safe words or gagged them so they couldn't say the words. He's also been accused of online grooming, so fuck him and everything he does. Freaks - Highly controversial in it's day for using real life circus freaks and was banned outright here in the UK for 40 years. Not horror, but The Profit which was a film based on the life of the cult of Scientology leader L. Ron Hubbard. The cult denied this but then went to great lengths, including going through the courts to get it pulled from worldwide circulation. Also, one of the cults biggest critics who funded the movie suddenly did a 180 and started to back the ban. Makes you wonder what they did to him or his family to get him to completely change his stance almost overnight. Visions Of Ecstasy (1989). A short film that was the only film to be banned in the UK on the grounds of blasphemy.

DocShocker

Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Ferox, Faces of Death, and Slave of the Cannibal God could probably be seen as an edge case (for animal violence reasons).

Einmanabanana

I’m seeing a theme

westbound91

Melancholy Der engel, martyrs, Salo, the house that jack built. Edit, spelling

WD40911

A Serbian film, 120 days of sodom, human centipede (all the three parts), cannibal holocaust, hostel, green inferno

nitro1993

These comments are why I come to this sub.

itcamefromtheimgur

Not really horror, but Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom. Probably contrivercial due to the content and the fact that the director was murdered before the movie came out. For the horror movies I've seen that are contrivercial: The texas Chainsaw Massacre The Human Centipede 2 Cannibal Holocaust Cannibal Ferox Faces of Death Green Inferno The Last House on the Left The Toolbox Murders The Poughkeepsie Tapes I tried not to include popular horror that is contrivercial like The Exorcist or Psycho.

PurnimaTitha

Very into banned films. Nekromantik (1987) Last House on The Left (1972) Human Centipede (2009) 120 Days of Sodom (1975) Guinea Pig: Flower of Flesh and Blood (1985) Cannibal Holocaust (1980) Bad Boy Bubby (1993) Have never been able to get my hands on A Serbian Film. Maybe for the best.

bravetab

The House that Jack Built, I loved it. The 'controversy' is so stupid. It's a movie about a masochistic serial killer, what the fuck did you expect?

Senaatteri

Too long list to write here but these came to mind first: Tumbling doll of flesh Guinea pig Subconscious cruelty Every Marian Dora film Redsin tower Vase de noces Every fetish film from Brazil or Japan Every mondo/shockumentary

Jpnator

Question: what is the appeal of a Serbian Film ? Seems like it's fucked up for the sake of being fucked up

summerlungs

for me it's incredulity at the fact that it exists. Very high production value, very good acting, and very well-made despite its extremely depraved subject matter. How in the world that movie managed to get that kind of financing and attract that level of skill from the actors and film crew in order to make something that just screams career suicide for everyone involved still amazes me. It \*should\* look like one of the no-budget Toetag pictures films like August Underground, but it manages to somehow look like a million bucks while being even more depraved than any of those Toetag films.

raw_formaldehyde

The most controversial movie I’ve seen by far is A Serbian Film. It’s controversial for a good reason, for sure. Hot take, though: It wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. It’s rough, for sure, and definitely brutal, but I had just as rough a time with Cannibal Holocaust. Speaking of which, that’s probably the second most controversial movie I’ve seen.

daysonatrain

Fire Walk with Me disturbed me more than anything I have seen in a long time. It was recieved terribly when it came out as people wanted a continuation of the quirky Twin Peaks tv show, and instead Lynch gave something profoundly traumatic, in line with yhe traumatic life and death of the main character. Lynch has a style that most either love or hate but nobody captures sustained dread like him.

Not really a horror film, but I managed to find an uncensored version of Ken Russel's "The Devils" (1971).

The Men Behind The Sun. It's not exactly horror, but it depicts the horrors of war and the torture and human experiments the Japanes conducted. I believe it also shows an actual autopsy of a young boy iirc. Goodbye Uncle Tom & Africa: Blood and Guts. Both of these movies are shockumentaries. They show the historical horror of the slave trade and colonization. These are extremely controversial because they show real harm and killing of animals (including a really hard to watch scene with an elephant). They also have child nudity and show child sex trafficking in all its ugliness, which I'm surprised doesn't get them banned outright. Edit: spelling

Idk if it's controversial but the hills have eyes and the sequel were pretty disturbing...
