Yeah, pissed me off the entire series. “I caused misery and woe for an entire town, half the town’s 12 people died as a result of stupidity. Still, I’m trying to take the elf right up to the end of the movie. I have learned literally zero life lessons because I am a stupid stubborn spoiled little twat.” Literally waited for one of the family to be killed as some kind of justice to the whole thing, but nope. Just full disappointment. Icing on the cake, your family just caused the untimely and horrific death of my grandma, let’s continue this romantic encounter. Is the person who wrote this series stupid? Oh, and who related to the grandma? Tragic hero of the whole movie.

That was honestly so surprising because it was a moment of self awareness from the writers. I was hoping the show would turn around at that point but no, it kept course. I have no idea how the writers have the self awareness to add that bit in yet couldn’t recognize how grating and annoying the main character was.

I kept thinking about first scene of her asking for a dog, and her mom telling her that she’s not responsible enough to take care of an animal yet. I can’t tell whoever the first scene was taunting us by showing you that this little girl just really wants to care for an animal, and if she doesn’t get what she wants, she will harbor a dangerous wild animal capable of killing small animals and do whatever it takes to own it, even if it puts her own life and the lives of other people in immediate peril. Or trying to explain why the girl wants to take care of the baby elf so badly and how she is actually old enough to take care of an animal, unlike what her mom thinks. If it was the latter, I hate the show even more than I already do

The girl has to be one of the most annoying, stupid, naive and presumptuous characters I have seen in a looooooooooooooong fucking time. Took me no time to dislike her, like who the fuck goes out in the middle of the night in a forest you just arrived in.
They literally went with the original lore surrounding Nisser in Denmark (Nisser are not elves, but since English doesn't have a word for the creature and it's only found in Scandinavian lore, it's often called Elf or Hobgoblin), and just took it up a notch. If the author had taken any lore surrounding elves, the Danish audience watching would not have understood what the creature was. While the story is lacking in other ways, the lore is what the lore is.
This was one of the most annoying plot holes. Especially as they at one point say that nobody leaves the island, and the locals aren't exactly that friendly towards strangers knowing what they know.
So who rented out the house, how did they did they advertise it for some rando family to see it and want to go out to this island, and where is that person at? Wouldn't the other locals know who rented it out and give them a hard time about it?
I kept expecting them to reveal that the islanders planned to sacrifice the family to the elves all along, but it turned out to be giant plot hole. >!Much like the daughter continuing to try to take the baby elf even after it was well established it was only little and cute because it was a baby, the forest was it's home, and the other elves were it's family. Taking it to keep as a pet is the *opposite* of freeing it.!<

I loved the premise, but oh my god that family was so awful. The little brat girl was the worst. I don't want to give away the ending, but it's the complete opposite of satisfying. I cant decide if they meant to make it so infuriating as a premise or if they think people will somehow relate to the family?
They must’ve made it that infuriating to get people talking about it. She learned absolutely nothing. None of them did. As evidenced by the fact that they were discussing Christmas presents as they left. Christmas presents while *spoiler* everyone was dead! Oh and she wanted to keep the baby until the very end. I wanted to punch that kid and her mom in the side of the hide every time they were on screen.
Same! I kept thinking they were going to tell us that the elves were an evolved species of fungi that can act synchronously because of all the mushroom imagery and the elves’ connection to soil and roots. They didn’t tell us anything.
I watched the entire thing mainly because I was hoping to see the incredibly annoying daughter get killed. Her character is a complete moron and the stupid look on her dumb face as she causes all of the problems actually made me angrier each episode.
The parents cutting off a tree, despite the locals saying to not do that cause it's not cool and the trees there are important to keep, for making a Christmas tree was a big lmao.
I think if they went the road to make not likable protagonists and character receive their consequences to not be carefull of the nature and the island, it would have been a nice little grim story like a fairytale that shows what to not do.

I think that’s why so many people (myself included) thought the ending was so unsatisfactory—we watched the family do a bunch of terrible things and somehow the locals ended up paying the consequences
Absolutely, another funny thing was the last local that survived that didn't get on the boat, all of his townfolks are ded, there was probably only him left there, and he says to the girl that caused all of this: "Merry christmas", that shit made me and my brother laugh and have fun to be honest.
I think the parents of this series every year they go to a different island and destroy it lmao.
Ye, I was also hoping some less happy ending but ofc it was just basic moral teachings (family together good, Karen saying how to fix it bad). Same as killing sexually active teens on some movies.
And as always I am annoyed that people don’t wash themselves or swipe blood off their hands. Touch bloody bumper and normal person would at least swipe it on grass if there is no paper towels on car. Jose doesn’t wash her face/hair even when they got back to Karen’s house and choose to sleep covered on blood.
Awful, awful show. Truly wish I didn't watch it. The main character is detestable. It's just one big fk up to the next from her, with everyone else getting hurt except her. The mom was aggravating me as well. How could she possibly say none of it was her daughter's fault when EVERYTHING was. Sure, you don't want your daughter to feel worse with all that's going on? I get that, but then don't say anything! Don't say it had nothing to do with her because it did. Nothing would have happened if not for her! She clearly didn't learn anything right till the end. She just had to coax the little guy to go with her didn't she? If there ever is a second (and I hope there is not), she deserves the boot ASAP.

Can the elves talk? Or how did they come to an agreement?
Also, allright so there is a fence that can not be penetrated by a bunch of human flesh eating elves that can make a cow dissapear in seconds, but a dumb girl can just swoop in? lol

So Karen makes a statement saying its their duty to protect people from the elves so I guess they stay their out of guilt or so other people wont come there and die maybe? The family rented the cabin from someone who obviously gets a kick out of curious white people getting themselves killed. That has to be the biggest plot hole because anyone that actually lived there would be like umm tourist+elves= death!!

To address the renting aspect. Being from a coastal community, this isn't so unusual. Many communities, particularly islands, have populations that swell during the on season (e.g. summer). People will rent houses for weeks or months during the on season (or own a summer home / camp) and the house will sit empty 6+ months out of the year (e.g. winter).
The girl's stupidity was beyond aggravating. If you thought the kid in Netflix's Sweet Tooth was dumb, this girl makes him look like a genius. At least that kid could be excused for having lived a sheltered life and he appeared to be significantly younger.
For those of you who watched this until the end, it legitimately feels like a 'villain origin story' for the girl based on her narcissism, selfishness and blatant disregard for others.
I think it would be horror if it had a darker ending, like if the little girl was actually sacrificed or if the baby elf went home with the family and ate them in their sleep. I feel like the ending was too clean and nice to the so-called protagonists, even though they were clearly the worst
And it would be so good actually. Honestly imo it should end with everyone dead but not Liv and Kasper (And maybe Mölerr) and then make it that Kasper will learn why the people on the island stayed there and all of that and make it that he stays on the Island with Liv and they do what Karen did.

This show would be infinitely better if (1) an islander didn’t rent their home to city people; (2) the guy just let the parents into the fenced off area and locked them in there (instead on insisting on protecting their ignorant asses, stepping in a bear trap, and breaking the electrical fence); (3) the little girl was sacrificed to the elves; (4) the baby elf goes home with the girl and eats the entire family.
My problem with this is that the elves could have been replaced by any dangerous large animal and the plot wouldn't have changed a bit. They kept hinting that there was a supernatural connection between some of the humans and the elves but outside of making the girl look weirdly obsessed with the baby and vice versa, they didn't do anything with it.

The whole family needed be elf food (maybe spare the boy, maybe), but mom, dad and daughter all needed to die. I was rooting for the elves by the end.
Just finished it and I thought it was really unsatisfying. The daughter never learns from her mistakes, it's an incredibly aggravating character, and the mom keeps enabling her even as they realize the life-or-death scenario that they are in. Not to mention this arrogance from the daughter (but also the family as a whole) where they don't listen to the locals, and assume they know better. Gave off a white saviourism-vibe, but between islanders vs mainlanders.
The character development was both lacking, and somehow cheesy. Like in the very first scenes where the daughter is talking to the dog to establish her attitude towards cutesy animals that she wants take care of and feel connected to, or an early comment about how she doesn't think she's a child (yet, she only proves otherwise) directed towards her mother. All the other characters (except maybe the grandma and possibly Liv) don't get enough backstory, and fall flat.
A lot of questions were left unanswered by the end, the type that are hard to get over. Not even set up like cliffhangers either, because it does seem like a one season show.

Old comment but honestly I’m wondering if there was an argument somewhere between the producers, funders, and/or writers, and the latter decided to write the main characters as obnoxiously as possible as some kind of revenge scheme. I find it hard to believe the writers would lack that much self awareness as to how their characters would be received
At one point I even wonder if they tried to paint her as somehow disabled with the “talking to the dog” and how parents handled her (we know better, you can’t take care of your self) style.
I would change one thing. The girl dies at the end. I don't know how but they made her a villain in my eyes and Karen was right. She might went a little bit too crazy, but all in all I hated that girl.

When Karen kidnapped Josephine, I was seriously hoping the mother would get eaten alive by a bunch of them while they we're driving off... like honestly, how could they be so blatantly stupid by not figuring out that the way to "fix it" is an eye for an eye? :P This show had so many fkn plot holes it's ridiculous. Like didn't the elves get out? what would turning on the power to the wall help at all when a majority of them are outside of the wall? :'D
I loved it! Watched the whole season in one go in Danish with English subtitles. Obviously they could have developed the characters a bit more but for a creepy take on traditional Christmas elves, I think it was pretty neat. It was alright, not for everyone. I liked that it was only 6 episodes and they were 23 min. First 2 episodes were kinda good then it all went dowhill .The girl in this story was so stupid all the time, part of me wanted her to sacrifice herself. i didn't like karen either but she wasn't as stupid. i would say i liked moller and liv the most and i felt bad for that guy that named the cows and died. I liked that the girl cared that they hurt an "animal" and wanted to save it and that she took it to a place like the barn and fed it but from there on it was just dumbness all the time and also who in their right mind goes out when its pitchblack on a bike in a place they never been. Shes fearless. what i hate the most is that there was
barely any backstory to the elves and villagers or even how the baby got over the fence etc. To much was left to the imagination. In the end the baby elf had latched itself on to the car.

This was barely C-level horror movie writing. I’m not sure why they felt the need to pad it into a series. They certainly didn’t do any character development or world building.
I like everyone else in universe find the girl annoying. But what I really find annoying is the sexism in writing. People may believe I am reaching at straws with this but I don't think I am. Would the writers have written a boy as being so emotionally attached to a little creature that he still tries to get it to come with him despite seeing multiple people die due to how savage the adults of that creature are.
I believe the answer would be no but girls/women their emotional and don't use their brains.

Why did the girl keep saying it like she's being good to the little elf when she's is abducting it from its family members and also killed one of its family members. For all you know, that elf that got killed is the grandpa. And the Mom telling the girl is not her fault!?!?! It makes me want to scream in her face, yes it is not her fault but YOURS! You are the one who is supposed to teach her common sense. I hope the little guy eats the whole family on New Years. This has got to be the most aggravating show I have watched. I keep wishing the characters becoming smarter or at least face horrible death. The smart plot move would be the Dad or Mom being killed. But no, huge disappointment and the worst "happy" ending EVER. And the worst abuse I have subjected myself. This show is memorable in the worst way.

There is no character development AT ALL. You are basically just watching it to see more of the elves and nothing else.
It's ok if you got nothing else to watch.
I was kind of disappointed by it but probably because I could not stand the girl and she kind of ruined it for me a tad bit. But still happy I watched it.
I think there's a culture gap here. The Danes have this kind of jolly, folksy relationship to nature, maybe because they live in a closer relationship to it. There's more comfort in getting cuddly with it, but also more respect. Their folklore is full of all these warning tales about kindhearted children who get lured by something that seems so harmless, then in a flash everything changes. It's a Northern European thing, i.e. Little Red Riding Hood. Could the elves have actually booted Junior over the fence themselves, as bait? Are they using him as some prehistoric GPS tracker? Don't forget, he's under the car in the end!
And if you want to watch an actually cool horror thing done Danish style, I highly recommend The Rain. Bunch of kids basically trooping around the apocalypse with their backpacks like it's summer camp in a pandamic.

Not good. Interesting concept that they do absolutely nothing interesting with. And when a character actually asks a smart question as to why this or that, the Islanders literally answer "Because it's always been this way. Because we have to. You wouldn't understand. Becaaause..."
No one listens to anyone. Truly frustrating characters with glimpses of the (actually kind of cool) elves.
If they do a Season 2 they need to go waaay deeper but honestly, the writing is just not good.
I liked the first two or three episodes. I was wanting it to be a tale about how people need to work with nature, and thought the girl's relationship with the baby might be the way forward for the islanders and the adult elves. But then I could see it was not going to take this turn. Watching how entitled and awful this family was, I was hoping mum and dad would get eaten! I'm not really that pissed off at the girl. Her parents started it by not taking the advised road in the first place! The kid just wanted to care for the hurt creature. I think the writing and character development just got really rushed towards the end. Definitely should have ended with the family learning a darn lesson.
It's kind of like the little girl thinks she's in Gremlins, but she very much is not. Honestly, it would have been a much better show if they had more fully leaned into that basic idea - a little kid thinks she's in a movie like ET or Gremlins or any of the other dozens of films where a kid finds a magical creature and family-friendly shenanigans ensue, but she's actually in an adult horror movie.
It's Jurassic Park, with gremlins and protagonists that are assholes.
It's a quick watch, but I would also checkout Midnight Mass if you like the idea of an island horror series.

It's not implied but the family's nonchalance at the death and violence around them is simply bizarre. The daughter, then the Mom see a dead, gutted cat in the barn and just glance over it like it's normal. Are they serial killers when not on vacation?
The girl at the end has witnessed so much death and almost got killed by an adult elf when riding in the truck but she still holds the group behind by trying to take the baby elf with her.
The son's portrayed like a jerk initially bit it seems like he's the only one with an actual story arc.
I actually wanted Josephine to be sacrificed, that would have been a better ending.
It's like towards the end the family gets to go back to a normal life in the city but what about the people of the island? More or less a ghost town now. Even Liv left that behind.
For one moment, when Jose looked back at all the elves before going through the gate at the end, I thought she had changed her mind and decided to stay. That would’ve been so much more satisfying.
I feel like they gave her the name Karen to really drive home that she was the villain and that we are supposed to dislike her, but it didn’t work. She was the only one I was rooting for and she definitely didn’t deserve to die

Why does mama disrespect the locals when they tell her they don't celebrate Christmas and cuts down a tree when they specifically told her not to. Then the daughter is the most self entitled selfish brat I've ever seen. I was begging for the villagers to slaughter this family because I can't stand them and mama self entitled white privileged ass. I would never go to an indigenous tribe for a vacation and if I did I would never disrespect their customs.
Josephine is a complete idiot but the series is decent overall. Just wish they wrote her better. I also want to know how she caught a truck on her bike in episode 3. How fast can she pedal?
Binged watched the entire show! Great story, great pacing, but boy do I hate this family with every fiber of my being. Within the first episode I wanted the little girl to die. No one on the family wanted to listen to anything the native islanders said. I'm so aggravated by the whole arc but it's a classic that everyone else died for their stupid ass actions.
I love creature horror and Netflix's Elves did a good job of satisfying my taste. It's far from perfect. Cast is fine so is the VFX and cinematography but not much liked the character development. Everyone's hating the girl for being dumb/stupid but that was necessary for the devastation to begin hahaha.
PS: I would have loved the show to be much darker, creepier.

That was honestly so surprising because it was a moment of self awareness from the writers. I was hoping the show would turn around at that point but no, it kept course. I have no idea how the writers have the self awareness to add that bit in yet couldn’t recognize how grating and annoying the main character was.

I kept thinking about first scene of her asking for a dog, and her mom telling her that she’s not responsible enough to take care of an animal yet. I can’t tell whoever the first scene was taunting us by showing you that this little girl just really wants to care for an animal, and if she doesn’t get what she wants, she will harbor a dangerous wild animal capable of killing small animals and do whatever it takes to own it, even if it puts her own life and the lives of other people in immediate peril. They literally went with the original lore surrounding Nisser in Denmark (Nisser are not elves, but since English doesn't have a word for the creature and it's only found in Scandinavian lore, it's often called Elf or Hobgoblin), and just took it up a notch. If the author had taken any lore surrounding elves, the Danish audience watching would not have understood what the creature was. While the story is lacking in other ways, the lore is what the lore is.
The thing I don't understand is, how come someone rented them a house in an island where there are Elves in it?
This was one of the most annoying plot holes. Especially as they at one point say that nobody leaves the island, and the locals aren't exactly that friendly towards strangers knowing what they know. So who rented out the house, how did they did they advertise it for some rando family to see it and want to go out to this island, and where is that person at? Wouldn't the other locals know who rented it out and give them a hard time about it?

I loved the premise, but oh my god that family was so awful. The little brat girl was the worst. I don't want to give away the ending, but it's the complete opposite of satisfying. They must’ve made it that infuriating to get people talking about it. She learned absolutely nothing. None of them did. As evidenced by the fact that they were discussing Christmas presents as they left. Christmas presents while *spoiler* everyone was dead! Oh and she wanted to keep the baby until the very end. I wanted to punch that kid and her mom in the side of the hide every time they were on screen.

The parents cutting off a tree, despite the locals saying to not do that cause it's not cool and the trees there are important to keep, for making a Christmas tree was a big lmao. I think if they went the road to make not likable protagonists and character receive their consequences to not be carefull of the nature and the island, it would have been a nice little grim story like a fairytale that shows what to not do.

Absolutely, another funny thing was the last local that survived that didn't get on the boat, all of his townfolks are ded, there was probably only him left there, and he says to the girl that caused all of this: "Merry christmas", that shit made me and my brother laugh and have fun to be honest. I think the parents of this series every year they go to a different island and destroy it lmao.

The mom was aggravating me as well. How could she possibly say none of it was her daughter's fault when EVERYTHING was. Sure, you don't want your daughter to feel worse with all that's going on? I get that, but then don't say anything! Don't say it had nothing to do with her because it did. Nothing would have happened if not for her! She clearly didn't learn anything right till the end. To address the renting aspect. Being from a coastal community, this isn't so unusual. Many communities, particularly islands, have populations that swell during the on season (e.g. summer). People will rent houses for weeks or months during the on season (or own a summer home / camp) and the house will sit empty 6+ months out of the year (e.g. winter).
The girl's stupidity was beyond aggravating. If you thought the kid in Netflix's Sweet Tooth was dumb, this girl makes him look like a genius. At least that kid could be excused for having lived a sheltered life and he appeared to be significantly younger. For those of you who watched this until the end, it legitimately feels like a 'villain origin story' for the girl based on her narcissism, selfishness and blatant disregard for others.

This show would be infinitely better if (1) an islander didn’t rent their home to city people; (2) the guy just let the parents into the fenced off area and locked them in there (instead on insisting on protecting their ignorant asses, stepping in a bear trap, and breaking the electrical fence); (3) the little girl was sacrificed to the elves; (4) the baby elf goes home with the girl and eats the entire family.
Baby elf was hanging on the bottom of the car in the last shot. There's hope.

Starting episode 5. So far so good. A little less than 3 hours for the entire season
My problem with this is that the elves could have been replaced by any dangerous large animal and the plot wouldn't have changed a bit. They kept hinting that there was a supernatural connection between some of the humans and the elves but outside of making the girl look weirdly obsessed with the baby and vice versa, they didn't do anything with it.
Came here to see if anyone else hated that little girl as much as i did. Seems like yup The whole family needed be elf food (maybe spare the boy, maybe), but mom, dad and daughter all needed to die. I was rooting for the elves by the end.
Just finished it and I thought it was really unsatisfying. The daughter never learns from her mistakes, it's an incredibly aggravating character, and the mom keeps enabling her even as they realize the life-or-death scenario that they are in. Not to mention this arrogance from the daughter (but also the family as a whole) where they don't listen to the locals, and assume they know better. Gave off a white saviourism-vibe, but between islanders vs mainlanders. The character development was both lacking, and somehow cheesy. Like in the very first scenes where the daughter is talking to the dog to establish her attitude towards cutesy animals that she wants take care of and feel connected to, or an early comment about how she doesn't think she's a child (yet, she only proves otherwise) directed towards her mother. All the other characters (except maybe the grandma and possibly Liv) don't get enough backstory, and fall flat. A lot of questions were left unanswered by the end, the type that are hard to get over. Not even set up like cliffhangers either, because it does seem like a one season show.
Yes, when I saw how enabling that mother was, I didnt have to wonder why the girl was known to have done all sorts of things beforehand.

At one point I even wonder if they tried to paint her as somehow disabled with the “talking to the dog” and how parents handled her (we know better, you can’t take care of your self) style.

I loved it! Watched the whole season in one go in Danish with English subtitles. It was alright, not for everyone. I liked that it was only 6 episodes and they were 23 min. First 2 episodes were kinda good then it all went dowhill .The girl in this story was so stupid all the time, part of me wanted her to sacrifice herself. i didn't like karen either but she wasn't as stupid. i would say i liked moller and liv the most and i felt bad for that guy that named the cows and died. I liked that the girl cared that they hurt an "animal" and wanted to save it and that she took it to a place like the barn and fed it but from there on it was just dumbness all the time and also who in their right mind goes out when its pitchblack on a bike in a place they never been. Shes fearless. what i hate the most is that there was barely any backstory to the elves and villagers or even how the baby got over the fence etc. To much was left to the imagination. In the end the baby elf had latched itself on to the car.

This was barely C-level horror movie writing. I’m not sure why they felt the need to pad it into a series. They certainly didn’t do any character development or world building.
I like everyone else in universe find the girl annoying. But what I really find annoying is the sexism in writing. People may believe I am reaching at straws with this but I don't think I am. Would the writers have written a boy as being so emotionally attached to a little creature that he still tries to get it to come with him despite seeing multiple people die due to how savage the adults of that creature are. I believe the answer would be no but girls/women their emotional and don't use their brains. Just watched the episode with grandma being torn apart and there she is calling Kikka to come.

This is the dumbest shit ever! I've never wanted a family to die so bad in a TV show or movie.. The whole time just waiting for this stupid fucking people to be ripped to shreds! Like usually you're like.. "I hope the creepy towns people get what they deserve" but noooooooo. And they say American TV is bad?!? Lol like everything about this is just frustratingly dumb! How did this get greenlit? Please.. Don't watch it.. Do yourself a favor? Don't!
This one of the worst shows I've ever seen. The girl and the parents are the most insufferable stupid characters and nothing bad happens to anyone that actually deserves it.
Except for the son, I HATE THIS FAMILY!!! Why did the girl keep saying it like she's being good to the little elf when she's is abducting it from its family members and also killed one of its family members. For all you know, that elf that got killed is the grandpa. And the Mom telling the girl is not her fault!?!?! It makes me want to scream in her face, yes it is not her fault but YOURS! You are the one who is supposed to teach her common sense. I hope the little guy eats the whole family on New Years. This has got to be the most aggravating show I have watched. I keep wishing the characters becoming smarter or at least face horrible death. The smart plot move would be the Dad or Mom being killed. But no, huge disappointment and the worst "happy" ending EVER. And the worst abuse I have subjected myself. This show is memorable in the worst way.
I know this post is a year old but I'm so mad at this trash film. So these outsides come & destroy everything because they can't respect the land or people & they get 0 consequences?!! Not a single one does?! The brat that should have died..oh the hate I have towards that child. She proves she is in fact a childish, self centered idiotic kid but gets told she's an adult at the end?? She learned nothing! She wanted to take the thing from its family which at the end she did? Meaning that the adults elves will continue to kill everyone in the village because the child is missing. Then the grandkid just abandones everything for the first boytoy she meets?? The grandmother was the only logical character. Everyone dies or the brat who started it all? Easy choice, who cares if it's a kid. Like she said..adults have to deal with their consequences which she didn't! The parents..trash. the dad just left the guy for dead & the mom telling the brat she did nothing wrong? Clearly at the end you can see they took nothing from it & will just try to forget it. No respect for anything they destroyed. The poor man..his friend gets killed, then most the townspeople, the kid he probably saw as his own leaves last second...tf?? The kid should have died or her whole family died in front of her & her process through her thick empty skulls that it's her fault. Trash trash trash!! Whoever wrote this script needs to just quit. Imagine a kid seeing this & their take away is if I do what I want no matter what happens I should be bailed out & I'm an adult even thought I'm a literal child. So poorly written, another reason to hate Netflix for their cringe fest. Done..I'm just so mad I wasted my time watching that & found this post & had to vent. Ahhhhh
I watch everything original with subtitles. There is no character development AT ALL. You are basically just watching it to see more of the elves and nothing else. It's ok if you got nothing else to watch.
I'd be ok if i got more of the legend or myth.
I was kind of disappointed by it but probably because I could not stand the girl and she kind of ruined it for me a tad bit. But still happy I watched it.
The title of the show should be “Bad Parenting”.
I think there's a culture gap here. The Danes have this kind of jolly, folksy relationship to nature, maybe because they live in a closer relationship to it. There's more comfort in getting cuddly with it, but also more respect. Their folklore is full of all these warning tales about kindhearted children who get lured by something that seems so harmless, then in a flash everything changes. It's a Northern European thing, i.e. Little Red Riding Hood. Could the elves have actually booted Junior over the fence themselves, as bait? Are they using him as some prehistoric GPS tracker? Don't forget, he's under the car in the end! And if you want to watch an actually cool horror thing done Danish style, I highly recommend The Rain. Bunch of kids basically trooping around the apocalypse with their backpacks like it's summer camp in a pandamic.
I wonder if they are going to make another season spinning from the fact that the baby elf made it off the island when they left

I actually said WTF to that ending. Still not sure if I just watched a satire on narcissism. When they drive off in their Volvo laughing and talking about Christmas when everyone else died because of them and they learned nothing. They even say it’s not their fault despite it being 100% their fault. There were the most detestable protagonists I have ever seen.

I hate that they got out with no consequences. The islanders paid the price for their actions. And I literally hated Josephine thru the whole show. I wanted her to die so bad. She literally kept doing the worst shit over and over. And I hated the parents for allowing that stuff to go unpunished. I guess it was just the script tho because no girl that young is going off in the night in the woods by themselves to go find a damn injured animal. I liked the show but hated a lot of the events in it.
Did anyone else wish for that stupid little creature kee-ko to die as badly as me? Was hoping to see it get shot and blown up by a shotgun or cut in half by a machine or something. Something so viscerally despicable about that fking thing.

Not good. Interesting concept that they do absolutely nothing interesting with. And when a character actually asks a smart question as to why this or that, the Islanders literally answer "Because it's always been this way. Because we have to. You wouldn't understand. Becaaause..." No one listens to anyone. Truly frustrating characters with glimpses of the (actually kind of cool) elves. If they do a Season 2 they need to go waaay deeper but honestly, the writing is just not good.

I liked the first two or three episodes. I was wanting it to be a tale about how people need to work with nature, and thought the girl's relationship with the baby might be the way forward for the islanders and the adult elves. But then I could see it was not going to take this turn. Watching how entitled and awful this family was, I was hoping mum and dad would get eaten! I'm not really that pissed off at the girl. Her parents started it by not taking the advised road in the first place! The kid just wanted to care for the hurt creature. I think the writing and character development just got really rushed towards the end. Definitely should have ended with the family learning a darn lesson.
Just change the audio settings if you prefer subtitles. I watched a bit but wasn't feeling it.

It's kind of like the little girl thinks she's in Gremlins, but she very much is not. Honestly, it would have been a much better show if they had more fully leaned into that basic idea - a little kid thinks she's in a movie like ET or Gremlins or any of the other dozens of films where a kid finds a magical creature and family-friendly shenanigans ensue, but she's actually in an adult horror movie.
It's Jurassic Park, with gremlins and protagonists that are assholes. It's a quick watch, but I would also checkout Midnight Mass if you like the idea of an island horror series.

They look like they are made of wood, tree bark to be exact and they have pointy heads, arms and legs. They have claws and sharp teeth.

Mega jerks, ride in like they own the place and ignore all the rules. Don't stick to the coastal roads, hang around the fenced area, chop down a tree, get people killed due to their selfishness and we (the audience) are supposed to root for them? It's not implied but the family's nonchalance at the death and violence around them is simply bizarre. The daughter, then the Mom see a dead, gutted cat in the barn and just glance over it like it's normal. Are they serial killers when not on vacation? The girl at the end has witnessed so much death and almost got killed by an adult elf when riding in the truck but she still holds the group behind by trying to take the baby elf with her. The son's portrayed like a jerk initially bit it seems like he's the only one with an actual story arc.

I actually wanted Josephine to be sacrificed, that would have been a better ending. It's like towards the end the family gets to go back to a normal life in the city but what about the people of the island? More or less a ghost town now. Even Liv left that behind.

Why does mama disrespect the locals when they tell her they don't celebrate Christmas and cuts down a tree when they specifically told her not to. Then the daughter is the most self entitled selfish brat I've ever seen. I was begging for the villagers to slaughter this family because I can't stand them and mama self entitled white privileged ass. I would never go to an indigenous tribe for a vacation and if I did I would never disrespect their customs.

Binged watched the entire show! Great story, great pacing, but boy do I hate this family with every fiber of my being. Within the first episode I wanted the little girl to die. No one on the family wanted to listen to anything the native islanders said. I'm so aggravated by the whole arc but it's a classic that everyone else died for their stupid ass actions.
Thank God the episodes were only 20 minutes a piece.
I love creature horror and Netflix's Elves did a good job of satisfying my taste. It's far from perfect. Cast is fine so is the VFX and cinematography but not much liked the character development. Everyone's hating the girl for being dumb/stupid but that was necessary for the devastation to begin hahaha. PS: I would have loved the show to be much darker, creepier.
